Two shawl projects in progress…
Left shawl/rainbow coloured is a wingspan shawl on Yarnspirations, using spiritcraft yarn, made for my partner and nearly completed.
The right shawl/rose coloured is a corner-to-corner I started earlier this week as a stash buster.
I’m not sure what embellishments, if any to add to either shawl, but I’m debating adding pom-poms to the corner-to-corner in some way

Thank you the NetGalley and Llewellyn for another opportunity to review a book! Today on the blog I reviewed Honoring Your Ancestors- A Guide to Ancestral Veneration by Mallorie Vaudoise. I am absolutely in love with this book. It's practical, easy to read, and relatively short. The few spells and rituals are thought out and their inclusion is important to the lessons taught in each chapter. When I read new books, I often leave a lot of the text with the book, taking only bits and pieces of new information and ideas as I find them. This book, however, I took almost all of it with me and left very little, if anything, behind. Vaudoise, a spiritualist of Italian descent, speaks from her personal experiences with her ancestral veneration practice and how she has used a combination of practices sacred to her family and ancestors to determine how to honor them. Her advice is practical and applicable to all those interested in ancestor veneration, whether it be to aid in your spellwork or to bring you comfort. Urban Saints
Ink and gold leaf gilding!
It has always been in my mind, being a Wildwood mystic (to a point) how can you cope in the environment of a city? Where can you find the longing breath of nature? There is nature in the urban streets. Just not the type of nature we see in our witchy books.
There are no oak trees here. No hares or deer. Instead, I care for herbs in pots in the balcony. Rats, roaches, pigeons, cats and spiders. They live, they survive and they die. This is the court of the Urban Witch.

Maybe it's because I like the attention I get when I won't tell. Maybe the whole spell was to make you pay attention to me, and if I tell you, you'll get bored and leave me alone. Also, my tarot deck told me something you should probably know.
Secrets, privacy and boundaries in witchcraft:
Hiding things has a bad reputation. If it is secret, it must be bad right? Or if the person won't share, they must be selfish at least-if it's not some darksome deed. That could be why. But not necessarily.
Some folks say something is secret just because they don't know and don't want to look uneducated. But most of the time, the witch has reasons to not share.
1) There is a pact or oath involved.
2) It is personal and wouldn't be of use to others. If they replicate the working they should replicate adding a personal component.
3) The working is still in progress - some spell work is never truly complete (ie a banishing or a level up) until nature takes it's full course which could take decades.
4) The witch is attached to their creation and would be crestfallen to see to copied without credit, which is a real risk when anything is published.
5) Just because.

guardian angels sending me messages today and I'm gripping their shoulders so so tightly like BRO read the room I am NOT ur strongest soldier rn. but they will tell me something kinda comforting or nice to think about or reassuring and I'll be like "oh ok :-) maybe I can be normal about things :-) maybe I can function like a normal human being for a while longer :-) ily". Card transcription
Mantirid, the Evermind 1R/GU
Legendary Creature- Spirit Spellshaper [rare]
Flying, vigilance, haste
Other Spellshapers you control have vigilance and haste.
Whenever you activate an ability of a Spellshaper you control, you may pay 1U. If you do, draw a card.
1/3
End transcription
This card was made with the time spiral design philosophy. It doesn't quite fit into time spiral block, I doubt this is something that would be made at the time but it's rather close, especially since planar chaos experimented with blue vigilance before we got it today. Vigilance and haste help with spellshapers cause they allow you to be a bit aggressive with them while still being able to do the thing they were meant to do, and the haste means you can activate them a turn faster. So I knew I wanted that to be a part of a spellshaper lord. From here on out comes the very timespiral "throw a bunch of references in a blender". I knew I needed a card for this to actually spellshaper if I wanted it to be a spellshaper, and I found the perfect card to do it- Evermind. Mantirid is splicing the one spell they know onto other shaper's spells. It's perfect, and exactly what a spellshaper lord wants- it even refills your hand, it's perfect. I made it a Spirit, because I was referencing an Arcane card and spirits and arcane go together, and from there I added flying because a) spirits often though not always fly and b) it allows you to be a bit more aggressive with Mantirid since without evasion you'd never throw them into combat. I wanted to go full time spiral though, and I felt like if I was making a new legendary creature and not referencing some old character without a card, the name should be a reference. So I went with Mantirid as a reference to Mantis Rider. So all in all, this card is a reference to two cards, as well as two other mechanics (the spiritcraft mechanic and the spellshaper mechanic) and feels appropriately time spiral. The green was a last minute addition for commander, it was originally just 1UR, added cause there are very limited spellshapers so I figured I should give you the opportunity to run as many of them as you can.

Side Projects: Runners Up
Congrats to this weeks runners up, @hypexion, @kytheon4-4, and @real-aspen-hours!!!!

Remnant of the Abzan by @hypexion
(For Tarkir block, “probably dragons”)
I dunno if I see this existing as a companion to Dragons, I think it would be khans, since I don’t think the decks accompanying Dragons would be three color, plus this uses a mechanic from Khans but not from dragons. Assuming it is from Khans though, I think its an interesting card. I’m glad you went down the route of “+1/+1 counters matter” instead of the more-specific outlast matter. And I like how the outlast ability is expensive enough that it encourages you to still find other ways to put counters on your creatures, and even other outlast cards work well here since they’re all cheaper than this cost. One thing I think might be a problem though is all the fighting you’re doing. I’m worried it will make it too difficult for your opponent to do anything. I might make a separate ability that says “Whenever you put one or more +1/+1 counters on a creature you control, you may have that creature fight target creature you don’t control. Do this only once each turn.” That allows you to limit it to actually only once each turn, and not once-each-turn-per-creature. That makes this commander a lot less miserable to play against. With that change though, I think I like the card a lot.
Kerei the Unrelenting by @kytheon4-4
I think a warriors precon makes perfect sense for tarkir block. I’m not fully convinced the “mardu deck” would be a warrior deck, but I’m sure there would be a warriors deck and I think that’s a reasonable place to put it. As for the card itself, I think this has just a bit too much going on for one card. Between dash, all the various combat keywords (in particular double strike), extra combats, and the aristocratsy ability, that’s just a lot. I do kinda like the combination of “extra turns” plus “reanimation with haste”, I think that’s neat, and is a very good fit for mardu as both a color combo and as a faction. Putting the reanimation on a leave-the-battlefield trigger is interesting, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. Normally, I’d say that would be a nonbo with the fact that it grants haste, since the most common time for creatures to leave the battlefield during combat, but with an extra combat you may still be able to take advantage of that. I do think that criticism still applies somewhat though, especially with dash running around. Cause if they die during the extra combat or leave at the end of the turn, you still can’t use the haste. I also think that this form of the reanimator ability pushes you a bit too much into an aristocrats-y style deck, and takes the focus away from combat where it should be for a card like this. Maybe if it only reanimates one thing a turn, at the beginning of combat, and grants it haste? I’d definitely cut the dash on this, and maybe tone down the keywords. But with those changes, I think this could be a really really fun warriors commander.
Koshiro of the Open Path by @real-aspen-hours
(For champions of Kamigawa)
Spiritcraft makes sense as a deck theme, since it’s a pretty build-around mechanic. The color choice is interesting, at first I would kind of expect white in there a bit, but now that I’m thinking about it, I kind of like this. It has a very “mystical nature” kind of feel, and it gets you access to a lot of spirit and arcane spells. Blue is definitely a good choice for arcane spells, you can do interesting stuff there. I think copying your spiritcraft spells is a great ability for this; that’s the kind of exciting trigger I’d expect on a commander like this. And removing the legend rule from your spirits is the cherry on top. With all the legendary spirits this block had running around, that was a great decision to make. My only complaint is the inclusion of the word “other”. While I understand the desire to not let you have multiple of this out, since that would be a lot of copies, it’s misleading because I don’t think this actually does stop you from having multiple out. Cause if you have two out, they’ll both have that ability and include each other in their “other Spirits”. And with that oversight, that does open this up to a possibility of getting really snow-bally in multiples, though that effect is negligible in commander so I don’t think that’s a huge deal.

HOW TO MAKE STUFF THAT spirits LIKE
from my experience dandelions tend to be good for winter season but you may be asking how do we keep them till winter while bringing out their highest potential? well i've got a tutorial for you!
Ingredients
A jar that's lid can be easily removed
Water(it should be moon water or rain water)
Dandelions (just enough to fill the jar halfway)
STEPS
first take the yellow stuff of the dandelions and put them on a or if you have a mortar and pestle put them in there
grind them down till the smell becomes enough for most people to smell (i have a strong sense of smell so to me they already have one)
get a cloth that can be used as a strainer and put the dandelions in it
put it over/in the jar and pour your water in and squeeze all the water out
grind and repeat till the water comes out is clear
let the leftover dandelions dry for 3 days by you window
once thats done add the dandelions in the jar and see how much room is still left
if there is room for more water make sure it is completely filled
close the jar and put it in a cool but not moist place shake it every full moon (or whatever aligns with your needs) and add more water when it starts to go down
--once winter comes put it in a small bowl on your shrine as an offering
