official canidae post!
Shoutout to the maned wolf, which is technically neither wolf nor fox but has its own genus called Chrysocyon! Why -
why are your legs so long?
I mean, intellectually, I understand that it’s because you live in grasslands and have evolved to be able to see over the grass, but emotionally… why? Are they?? Like that??? Surely there was a way to make your body more cohesive and proportional-looking?

Bush dog (Speothos venaticus), family Canidae (canids/'dogs')
The only living species within its genus, its closest living relatives are likely the maned wolf or the African wild dog.

Male Bush Dogs have also been observed mounting each other, often accompanied by playful nipping of the legs or hindquarters.

Creature Awaits #211
Each week I plan to feature an amazing creature, admiring God's fantastic artistry. Hopefully it’ll brighten someone’s day to see something new and interesting if they havent seen it before. : )
(Another awesome photograph from the talented Cloudtail the Snow Leopard, (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0))
The Bush Dog
Scientific Name: Speothos venaticus
Region: Primarily northern South America reaching up a bit into Central America
Size: About 22"-30" long (~57cm-75cm) with a roughly 5"-6" (~12.5cm-15cm) tail
Interesting Notes: These adorable wild dogs live and hunt in packs, feeding on various mammals and birds, even large ones such as rheas, capybaras, and peccaries. Their packs revolve around a primary pair surrounded by their closest relatives. The primary pair breed and the other members help take care of the pair's young.

Red Fox society is characterized by highly complex and flexible living arrangements and social interactions, varying both between and within populations. (...) Wolves have a highly developed social system revolving around the pack, a group of usually a dozen or so individuals consisting of a mated pairs and up to two generations of their offspring; occasionally a few unrelated adults also live in the pack. Much less is known of the social life of wild Bush Dogs, although it appears that they, too, live in groups (possibly also pairs) and hunt in packs of usually a dozen individuals (though much larger groups containing hundreds of dogs have also been reported).

No, you can’t pet that dog. ✋ Introducing the bush dog (Speothos venaticus)! This rare canid is so elusive that it was once known only from fossils and thought to be long extinct. It inhabits parts of South America from Panama to northern Argentina, where it can be found in packs of up to 12 individuals. With partially webbed feet, this critter is a skilled swimmer and spends much of its time around water. It hunts for a variety of rodents including agoutis, pacas, and capybaras.

"If I played for you, Millia, I'd write a cool, mature, and feminine love song, just leave it to Speothos Venaticus! Why, you ask? As a cool, mature woman myself, that sort of thing is my jam~"
Girl you are not subtle. At this point I think it's be less subtle if you just straight up asked her out
#though I was being my usual self looking too much into things but nah Millia is the only girl she mentions doing a romance song for#I mean she kinda does for May too but it's clear the descriptor is meant to be about pining love between her and Johnny#she just whips that shit right out for millia and I don't know how to feel#Milphelt agenda continues to roll!#guilty gear#elphelt valentine#millia rage#milphelt#op back on her bullshit
