A24 has released Beauty of the Beast, a “transformation manual” by special effects makeup artist Emily Schubert (Super Dark Times, Good Time). Priced at $44, the 8x11 book features an embossed gloss-laminated softcover.

It contains 180 pages of step-by-step instructions recreating for key looks, including alive, dead, young, old, bald, hairy, bony, and bloody; along with a primer on essential skills like creating a scar, removing tattoos, faking swat, covering pimples, applying a bald cap, applying a prosthetic; and more.

Why is BJ face such a different color? nails and hands also appear to be deteriorating

I think this is probably just a side effect of the advancement of film and camera technology. Cameras caught the same colors and makeup differently in the 80's. I doubt it was a purposeful move, I think they tried to make him look as much like OG Betelgeuse that they could, but time catches up to us all.

Chris Sheridan and Robert Duncan McNeill also said they didn't just come up with the look of the avian aliens on their own. Instead, they based it on people's claims of their own encounters.

BTW, for those new to the series, the UFO seen in season 2 was based on the founder of Dark Horse Comics own experiences.
