Sometimes I really want deltarune chapter 3 to come out not because of the excitement, but because I miss the people who made chapter 2 so great. I just miss my favorite ol' mutuals who left after the deltarune chapter 2 excitement died down y'know? :(

THEORY: The Butterfly Effect
I'd like to thank VGFM for forming the basis of this theory with theirs, the excellent "The True Identity and Importance of "Everyman"". I highly recommend reading it!
---
A while ago, VGFM brought to my attention the presence of a butterfly motif in UTDR.
They noted the presence of butterflies in three specific places: Whimsun/Whimsalot's bullets, Reaper Bird/Everyman's bullets, and King's cape.
I'd like to expound on this by analyzing these usages, and also add another two instances of a butterfly motif that, all together, lead me to a conclusion about what butterflies in UTDR could mean.
1: Everyman's bullets
Probably the most memorable appearance of butterflies across Undertale and Deltarune. It's our pal Everyman!
In case it was possible to forget, here's a refresher: the amalgamate Reaper Bird in the True Lab features a guest star in their attacks. The strange, embryonic "Everyman" initially just stands there. Then their face is painfully eaten by butterflies, and they subsequently will go on the attack. Everyman has since cameoed in Deltarune a few times, but the butterflies have been conspicuously absent.
Still, this seems to be the character most obviously linked to butterflies so far.
As for what butterflies could mean here, there's only one really major thing to note: Everyman was not aggressive until the butterflies infested their face. In one of their attacks, the butterflies even seem to be "puppeting" a staggering Everyman, and are the ones actually inflicting damage by flying out of their head.
Does this mean the butterflies represent aggression? I'm not so sure. However, as we're about to see, they do seem to appear a lot in the context of antagonism.
2: King's Mantle
Another butterfly was visible in Deltarune Chapter 1, taking the shape of King's... cape?
At the time of VGFM's theory, we didn't have the Chapter 1 livestream, but Toby gave us this one for free: "Cool mantle, bro."
Setting aside the weighted term "mantle" for this theory (but rest assured, you're in good company thinking about the SkyMantle and ShadowMantle), I'd like to focus on the King himself.
Firstly: Many people refer to this character as the "Chaos King," likely due to the titular track that plays during his fight. But the character himself is only ever referred to as "(a) King." Let's squirrel this away for later.
Secondly: During said battle with King, during which he has his greyscale mantle, he is able to use a greyscale "tail" from his belly to attack us by slightly manipulating the UI.
King uses that grey belly tail to drag our box around the screen and into bullets in various ways, almost reminiscent of fighting Sans. As far as I can remember, (correct me if I'm wrong), he's one of the only DR characters who do this (ETA: @potabo pointed out Queen also has a UI-affecting attack, as does Spamton in a scrapped attack).
But after the King's mantle has flown away, we only see him using basic spade bullets. We never see the belly tail again.
Now, of course, this could just be gameplay/story dichotomy - we're in a cutscene, not in battle, so of course we don't see any grander attacks.
But it would be interesting if the mantle itself was what granted him the meta power to manipulate the UI. If true, then by extension, this might associate the butterfly motif with similar powers.
Remember what I said about "Chaos King" not being his real name? That begs the question: why is the track titled that?
3: CHAOS SABER
This one's a little sneaky.
We've all probably noticed by now that Asriel's battle is chock full of Deltarune references, and plot elements we weren't even aware of. There's plenty of theories and speculation out there about that.
But one of the elements flying under the radar is his attack "CHAOS SABER."
Not the Kris-like sword attack, or the unusual animations, or the Deltarune-like sparkles at the end... but the very sword sprites themselves.
Take a look again.
Yep - when put together, the two swords Asriel uses form a butterfly shape. (They're also reflections of each other...)
What do we know about this instance of the butterfly motif? Not much, really, aside from the use of swords to cut, the production of those Darkner-representing stars, and the title: "CHAOS SABER."
Uh-oh. Maybe we shouldn't speak too loudly of "chaos..."
4: Jevil's voiceline
Just a small one, but I think worth noting: Jevil, a character strongly associated with Chaos, has the voiceline "METAMORPHOSIS."
Yes, it's one of his references to those Line stickers. But face it: when you hear "metamorphosis," what's the first thing that comes to mind?
It may not directly spell out the word "butterfly." But fellow Line reference "I CAN DO ANYTHING" doesn't directly spell out "freedom," anyway, and that's an actual confirmed Jevil motif.
All I'm saying is, it's not out of the question that the "METAMORPHOSIS" line might tie into this ongoing butterfly motif.
5: Whimsun/Whimsalot's Bullets
You may have gone through this list wondering: where are Whimsun and Whimsalot? What profound meaning do they have? What fascinating secrets can we glean from their depiction of butterflies?
The answer is: I dunno lol.
Sorry, there was a reason I shunted them off to the end. Unfortunately, I just can't find anything that sorely sticks out! Whimsalot is one of the CORE enemies, sure, and those seem Deltarune-relevant in some way, but otherwise... I just don't know! If anyone has more profound insight to offer here, feel free to sound off - I'd love to hear your ideas. Personally, I'm gonna throw in the towel until we get another chapter.
CONCLUSION
You've probably noticed by now, but there seems to be a common thread throughout half of these instances.
Jevil, "Chaos King," "CHAOS SABER"...
In Undertale and Deltarune, butterflies may represent CHAOS.
And honestly, it makes more sense than you'd think.
The butterfly effect is pretty well-referenced in media: a single flap of a butterfly's wings, rippling out to eventually cause a hurricane somewhere else.
And what discipline, exactly, does the butterfly effect fall under? Chaos theory.
If this is the imagery Toby Fox is trying to invoke, I wonder if our actions won't "ripple out" in a great chain of cause-and-effect, either. After all, he did state some things "only appear random. All chaos is ordered."
As for what this means for the affected characters, the one that jumps out the most as an example is Everyman. Again, in Reaper Bird's attack, the poor fellow appears to be engulfed by butterflies - so, metaphorically, by CHAOS. Only after this do they actually become aggressive. And interestingly, Toby Fox also remarks on how the Dark Fountain may have changed King's behavior.
After all, in terms of the greater plot, the most solid thing we know about the role of CHAOS is that it will apparently result when the Dark Fountains fill the sky, and cause the Roaring.
So, is "Chaos King" actually King altered by the CHAOS-causing presence of the fountain? How many more benign characters like Everyman have been spurred into aggression in this way? And how long before all this mounting CHAOS becomes a true Roaring?
It seems we'll have to keep an eye on the butterflies.
...Well, that's all I've got for today. Feel free to leave your essays about Whimsun being the most important Undertale character - once things ripple out enough, you might just be right.

I know I said I was going to put the Deltarune stuff on hold for a while, but...
There's something crazy I just discovered due to one of the many theories I heard on YouTube and it got me thinking a lot.
Do you remember the last tape from the true lab in Undertale?
In this last one there are some abnormal things like the sound in the background, and it’s not possible that Asriel could have made this recording, not when his best friend was dying. This brings us to something creepy, since the only place where this type of recording could have been made it’s inside a laboratory, with cameras in different positions.
What I'm getting at is:
Gaster was probably there when this event happened, as he was the owner of the lab back then. It’s likely the Dreemurr family brought Chara to the true lab because they were hoping Gaster could do something to heal them, since they didn't know much about humans. Chara was Gaster's first human patient, and Gaster already knew about the brothers plan, because he watched the secret tapes they left during his research.
During that time, Gaster could have talked with Chara about this and proposed a deal, something like:
“Give me information about your kind and samples of your body and soul for my experiments, in exchange of speeding your plan by making your death faster with my stuff”
Chara saw this was the best thing, so they accepted, not knowing the kind of darkness that would be unleashed later. In the end, the tragedy of Asriel and Chara happened, Gaster didn’t stop them, some human kids fell and he continued experimenting in secret, behind the kings' backs. Things continued like this, until Gaster’s curiosity and obsession got out of hand and fell into his creation, breaking into thousands of pieces throughout space and time.
Now, we don't know at what point Gaster realized his entire world was part of a game, but he most likely did some datamining and watched Flowey's numerous playthroughs to figure it out. This pretty much destroyed him in many ways, I don't know to what extent, but something tells me what he was before died there a long time ago. All that's left in him is madness, and now the players are taking part in probably his last experiment, one with an uncertain ending and purpose.
--------
Another thing I want to point out is: Gaster seems to target pacifist/mischievous/vulnerable subjects to make deals and promises with, then he grants them powers and in some cases shows them the truth. This leads to some of them becoming mad and causing havoc.
Now I’ll proceed to mention all the subjects that are known so far:
The confirmed ones: Player – Jevil – Spamton – The next secret bosses.
Unsure/ Probably are: Kris – Ralsei – Sans (Undertale) – Papyrus (Undertale)
Probably the next: Susie – Noelle
It seems we’re involved in something very dark, a situation beyond the player's control, but there's still hope. Whatever Kris and Ralsei are planning together in secret may be the key to solve this (that is if you continue along the normal-pacifist route).
This is all just theory, but let's see what the future holds for us.

Smol fic about Spamton having a nice evening : )
(No OCs or y/n, just Spamton)
“[Closing sale!]” Spamton said to himself in his salesman cadence, closing his store’s door for the day. The keys jangled in his pocket as he made one last bout around, walking around his store to check that everything, or the little that he had there, was in place. He mulled over in his head how he should spend this evening, the weather was pleasant, maybe he could enjoy watching the ads on the billboards or store TVs play for a bit. The younger addisons today had no idea how to make good ads anymore, they’d say just about anything! The cars they made were hideous too, where had real class gone? His disappointment was immeasurable, his day was made.
He paused for a moment, admiring his handmade mural. For many years, his rendition of heaven had kept his thoughts in happier places. He rubbed his eyes under his glasses and shut them for a moment, thinking. He envisioned the all-too-green, liminal rolling hills, the bright blue sky patched with white whisps. He could feel a gentle warmth on his cool face. Bliss.
“[[Heaven]] … please hear my BEGGING and don’t [[leave me on read]]. Help me become a [BIG SHOT]. I need [hyperlink blocked]. Freedom from [hungry?] [[Got join pain?]] [it was a cold and stormy night]. I believe. I believe in [hyperlink blocked].” He felt the warmth of the indescribable light on him.
“I will be F- FR- FREE
F̸̯͂r̶̲̽e̴̪͂ĕ̷̩
FREeeEEeE FREE F̴̞͚̝̣̆̇r̵̗͔̫̻̔͜ę̷̳̻̰̱̞̰͉͔̦̮͕͓̬̐̚ͅȩ̸̛̠͔͚̥͖̔͆̇͌̎͛̒͗̏͆̃̒̕̚-

A sharp pain in his hand swiped his attention and he opened his eyes again, his gaze returned to his time-worn painting. He had a few Kromer, for tonight at least hunger was a solvable problem. “A [MENS CLOTHING 50% OFF]” he said, grasping the few Kromer he had in his worn hand. He was usually unlucky, but tonight he had a good feeling despite his aching stomach and hand.
Spamton left his shop stepping out onto the street, he made his way downtown, not walking very fast. He walked down the bright street, past the old boxes in the Trash Zone. In the city the shop lights bathed him in neon. The TVs in the windows played ads like a kaleidoscope, their audio just barely a second off from the next. Sometimes it almost sounded like the Queen’s noise music. He hoped for a car ad, those were his favorite to make fun of, but right now it was mostly for pots and pans. “Mays Billie here!! You gotta have our new FLEX PAN™! The super strong waterproof pan that can cook anything – big or small! It grows and shrinks to cook whatever you want! Need something to store all your food in??? It can do that! Need a pan to cook one (1) CD bagel?? It can shrink and cook it perfectly! Your pipes leaking? Use flex pan to catch the water!! Flex Pan™ saved my marriage! It just works! Comes in pansexual colors™! Get yours today!”
Some laughter caught his attention, two plugboys walked past him, they seemed to not notice him at all. “How many times are you going to tell me that story? Haha!” “As many times as you’ll hear it!” They both laughed again. “No but really, I hope my performance review at the Cyber Bakery goes well tomorrow, I’ve been working so hard!” the first said the second. “I know it will, besides if it doesn’t I’ll give them a .. uh.. knuckle .. sandwich” The second piped up. “ I told you before,” the first laughed “we don’t make sandwiches!” Spamton frowned. He sometimes had a gaggle of friends in his store, sometimes their friendship helped him scam one or both of them and this brought him joy but here all saw was their display as they continued on into the evening together. He found himself scowling a bit although he didn’t dwell on what pissed him off. He felt the Kromer in his pocket again, feeling a bit better. At least he would get something to eat, the Cyber Bakery didn’t sound like a bad idea either there was no risk of running into any coworkers there, not that they’d acknowledge him if they did see him. He started to continue further into the bright city, leaving the friends and the Addison riddled TV chatter behind.
The bakery was playing some music, one of those reverse diss-tracks the Queen permitted. He walked in, the smell of CDbagels, phish pies, other pies, and browser cookies was inviting. He eyed the menu for something substantial, wondering when he might have enough Kromer to splurge like this again. Even with his glasses the text was hard to read from where he was. Their pies were fairly big he thought, maybe he’d get some coffee too. It was evening now but Spamton slept very irregularly and figured he could spend tonight crunching some numbers on his sales to see which things were selling the best. At least staying up and running numbers would give him something fun to do and avoid those awful dreams he had sometimes, besides splurging now and again isn’t a bad thing he told himself. He deserved it after all. “Pie and a coffee? Sure thing!” The cashier said, taking his dark dollars. “Oh! Would you like a browser cookie too? We’re giving them out free today!” “Sure [thank you!]” Spamton said, taking one. The pie and coffee were warm in his hands, he held his hands together and briefly shut his eyes “[Graceful]” he said and he ate.
After eating he continued further into the cit. He glanced down a familiar alley, he had stayed in that dumpster before for a few months but the mauses made it impossible to stay there long term and especially hard to find food. Curiosity got the better of him though and he opened the dumpster to look inside. He was pretty unlucky, but every once in a while he’d find something useful and tonight and he had a feeling that this was one of those nights. He popped the lid open and looked inside – mostly trash, he looked around to avoid anything sharp or rotting and pushed some boxes aside, he had a feeling about this one.
A genuine smile overcame his puppet face as he (ph)ished out a lightly used painting kit, who could throw out something so nice!? More for him. He admired the find in his sore hands, the blue, red, yellow, and black were all still mostly untouched and even the green that was over ½ used still had some paint left. He imagined painting his old red Cungedero with heaven behind him, or painting his favorite ad that he had been in long ago, maybe he should paint 1997 Cyber City and the parade that the Queen sneakily planned on his birthday. Even Cyber City’s typical night scape was beautiful if you went to the right place. Spamton started on his way home, whatever he decided to paint with those half-used colors, he’d have enough light by his dumpster to paint it how he liked.
#haven't written anything in a long time but I finally did!#hope you like it! I wanted to focus on more mundane moments because I think those are really nice#This is more of a drabble but I really had to get it out because it just kept sitting in my head you know?#spamton#text#deltarune#fanfic#also I thought it'd be funny if he thought saying grace literally just meant saying and eating - not praying or anything else lol#which like that's valid too I just thought it'd be funny#my stuff

Puppet Waltz - Deltarune AU Idea (Cont.)
MORE AU THOUGHTS TIME SINCE I'M AWAKE NOW AND HAVE MORE TIME. ...Hopefully. I'm starting at like 3:30 PM Sept. 29th. And this is probably going to be a bit more rambly. SO. Some thoughts about Cyber City. Well. In the past, I imagine before things really started upgrading and improving, it wasn't exactly a city just yet. It was originally called Cyber Town with Queen originally being known as Lady. Swatch, the head butler, was still one of the people that Lady trusted the most. Seriously, she relied on him for a lot of things. Especially getting her a very specific supply of battery acid. He....doesn't really question it. If she wants it, Swatch will get it for her. Oh, you know the Addisons? Yeah, I've done stuff with them too and added some new ones. So lemme share them all! In the base game we have Pink, Orange, Blue and two Yellows. They're the actual existing ones so I may as well list what I've done with them. Pink:
Pink's name in this is Addy and uses he/him pronouns. Of the Addisons, Pink was the first one to appear in Cyber Town among the Addisons. He advertises often for different fashion-related things. The main products being for shoes and the very expensive FreezeRing! Oh, and he also sells tea as well, but this is a newer thing. After Spamton became famous and he was ultimately left behind, Addy tried to keep the friends together and to not forget him but...things just didn't work out. So he was left with no choice but to move on. Blue: Blue's name in this is Adelina and uses she/her pronouns. She was the second Addison to join Cyber Town and felt the most distraught and betrayed by Spamton getting bigger than the rest of his friends and becoming too busy for them. Addy and Adelina often got into many fights over whether or not they should forgive Spamton. Now she doesn't like to talk about him. But after the Spamton NEO encounter that Kris has...she regrets being so harsh to him. She advertises for ad placements and sometimes different shoes. Orange: Orange's name in this is Adael and uses she/her pronouns. The third Addison to appear in Cyber Town, she advertises different flavored juices. She was mostly on Addy's side in regards to wanting to still be friends with Spamton but because everyone became so divided about it, she came to a similar conclusion and felt they had no choice but to move on. She never talks about him unless he's brought up in conversation. Deep down, she wishes she went to visit him before he crashed. Twin Yellows: The two yellows that are seen are named Adam and Adis. Adam uses he/him pronouns and Adis uses she/they pronouns. The fourth and fifth Addisons to appear in Cyber Town. They appeared not too long before Spamton did and their advertisements typically involved various art supplies. However, after the whole Spamton incident made everyone fall apart, the twins ended up withdrawing and mostly avoiding conversations with the others. They were still friends with them, but they also refused to stop being Spamton's friend. Eventually, both of them stopped leaving their homes. They stayed in contact with people but didn't want to leave the house. After the Spamton NEO encounter, they came out of hiding in the shared sadness of their friend group. So those are among the ones that were shown in the game that I decided to do somethin' with. I'll share other Addisons that I made in the future. Also, before I end this little post, I will say that in Puppet Waltz, part of what made Spamton slowly lose it was discovering his real name was Spamton G. Spamton. Further making him panic, his "Ad Speech" got progressively more frequent the more famous he got. Something he didn't realize was happening until it was already too late. And at that point, his real voice was drowned out, only occasionally slipping in various ads as a cry for help. Hell, he'd sometimes just brute force his original manner of speaking out just so he could have his real voice back. Think of this quote: '....can anyone hear me...? Help....' Alrighty, I'm done now. And it is now Oct. 1st, 2:45 AM. At least I finished it.

Deltarune Theories and Observations Part 2
Since it’s been like three weeks and this game still hasn’t left my god damn brain, here’s some more things that I felt like noting or theorizing.
~Parallels of Noelle and Kris~
So, I ended my last Deltarune longpost with a comparison between Kris and Susie. But, interestingly enough, Kris and Noelle also have a lot of similarities. Both of them have an older sibling figure who was a very prominent crutch in their lives (Asriel for Kris, Dess for Noelle). Yet, in present times, this elder sibling is not present (though Dess’ is a bit more permanent, whether she died or went missing.) And compared to these older siblings, Kris and Noelle are the more introverted sibling, with Kris barely having a social life until the start of the game and Noelle being the biggest pushover since a card tower. Then, there’s their parental dynamics. Asgore and Rudy are both the carefree, laidback father figures, with Asgore immediately throwing Kris in a bear hug when seeing them and Rudy encouraging Noelle to ask Susie out and playing Dragon Blazers with her. This contrasts with the more proper, if strict mother figures. While Noelle’s mother is certainly the more egregious, if the fact that Noelle would rather stand outside her home’s gates likely for hours on end than to attempt to ‘bother’ her mother during work for a house key, there are a few signs of Toriel being a little strict in some areas. Apart from some dialogue from Bratty about her kissing Asriel and anything involving the big school dance being signs that Toriel does not approve of her kids, or any of her students for that matter, getting into anything even remotely romantic, the flavor text for the closet in Kris’ Dark World room being ‘You could wear whatever you want’ suggests that Toriel imposes some sort of a dress code on Kris and likely also Asriel when he was living at home. They’re also the two characters most susceptible to the SOUL, in other words you the player. Kris’ is a bit more direct, as they are the character we control in both their movements and what they say. While Noelle, considering she has such a weak will, she is fairly mailable if we impose our will onto her, as demonstrated in the Pipis Route. Finally, they both have a strong attachment towards Susie, though whether Kris’ is romantic or not is not entirely clear as of yet. Oh, and speaking of Noelle...
~The Return of Noelle~
In at least one of the future chapters, I believe Noelle will make a come back as a party member. I don’t think Toby Fox would make it this easy to just lose whatever equipment you put on her, especially if you give her the Jevilstail or if the Pipis Route has been fully completed you will lose a component of the Twisted Sword, which will presumably be available in future chapters. Therefore, I believe that Noelle will be playable again, at least at some point.
~Misanthropic Dysmorphia~
So, many people have seen the connections that Kris has to Chara (or The Fallen Child) from Undertale. They both love chocolate, are the adopted children of Toriel and Asgore, and seem to have an affinity for knives. But if there is one more connection they have, it’s that they both seem to hate humans. Now, while don’t know the reasons as to why Chara hated humans, it was enough for them to want to slaughter an entire village of people, going overboard with the body count when only 6 souls were needed to break the barrier. While Kris likely isn’t as genocidal as Chara was, their distaste for humanity runs just as deep. However, Kris’ misanthropy manifests as a form of body dysmorphia. As a child, they wondered when their horns would grow in like their brother and parents, showing that, at least at that point Kris didn’t understand the biological differences between themself and those around them. Not only that, but in Chapter 2, when going upstairs in the library and reading the book ‘How to Care for Humans’, when looking at the pages Kris immediately closes the book when seeing the pictures of humans in seeming disgust. It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if Kris hates the fact that they’re human, seeing as that is the big thing that makes them an outsider to Hometown. It would also explain why they seem to hate the SOUL/Player, even if you play as pacifistically as possible and don’t do anything to intentionally upset Kris like throwing away the Ball of Junk in the Light World. After all, Kris’ description in the Dark World as soon as you enter it in Chapter 1 is ‘A body containing a human SOUL’. Apart from just generally being upset that some outside force is controlling their actions, Kris is also likely pissed that a human is the one controlling them, because, assumedly, you or anyone else that plays Deltarune is going to be a human. That could be just some extra salt in the wound, that even Kris’ own soul is not only human but not even their own.
~Darkner’s History(?)~
This is something strange that I don’t think a lot of people think about. So, I notice a lot of people point out that Ralsei knows that both his Dark Fountain and the Fountain from Chapter 1 are located in a supply closet and a classroom respectively. Most people point to this as evidence that Ralsei knows something, however Ralsei isn’t the only one with knowledge of the Light World. Queen does have a line or two about knowing that her Dark World is within a library. So clearly, Darkners have at least some awareness of the Light World, or at least enough about their enclosed spaces and possibly limited to appointed rulers or some such. What isn’t so clear is how long these Dark Worlds have lasted. Sure, portals to the Dark Worlds seem like only a recent thing, there is talk about the history of these characters. Just within Chapter 1 there’s King overthrowing the other three card kings and taking the throne all to himself, Jevil meeting a mysterious figure causing him to go mad and thus needing to be locked up by Seam, a presumably long series of puzzle makers syphoned out before Roulxs became the Duke of Puzzles, and some kind of falling out between Queen and King (which also brings up the question of when and why was Queen’s laptop in the abandoned classroom). My point being, despite these Dark Worlds being open for maybe a day or two at best, there seems to be almost years worth of history to these places. It could be a case of ‘one day passes inside, but only about an hour has passed outside’ thing or it could be that Dark Worlds still technically exists even without a Dark Fountain. So far, though, I can’t offer any concrete answers to this. And actually, since I brought up his suspicious behavior once again...
~Communication Issues~
I already talked about how Ralsei is suspicious in an out-of-universe perspective here, but in universe he is acting rather suspicious. Namely, around Susie. When Kris and Susie return to Castle Town, Ralsei tells Kris to gather everything in the adjacent classroom and bring it here. Everyone becomes their Darkner counterparts and Susie is naturally excited to see everyone, especially Lancer. Ralsei then says, and only says, that ‘when the Dark Fountain was sealed, that area returned to a normal classroom. And when Lancer decides to become one of you KEY ITEMS, Ralsei doesn’t explain that Darkners become regular objects in the Light World, causing Susie to think Lancer ditched them when Kris and Susie leave to work on their group project. And during the Chapter 2 epilogue, Susie even suggests finding a way to bring Ralsei and Lancer into the Light World, despite that seeming to be an impossibility. That’s not even mentioning the post Spamton NEO dialogue where Susie is the first to bring up the oddities of the whole scenario, and Ralsei immediately chooses to shoot down any questioning. Ralsei seemingly keeps Susie out of the loop on a lot of important things about how the Dark World works. Now, Susie doesn’t really question these things, but that’s mostly because 1. she is a very ‘only cares about the here and now’ type of person and is very excited about the whole Dark World shenanigans her, Kris and Ralsei get up to, and 2. this girl is dense enough to not immediately catch on the Noelle is crushing so hard on her a neon sign saying ‘SHE LIKES YOU’ would be a more subtle message. Now, it could be that Ralsei sees Susie in a much more ‘need to know’ basis, that since she is isn’t really the group plan-maker, she doesn’t need to know the intricacies of how the Dark Worlds, the Fountains, and everything works. It also could be that the player, and by extension Kris, are more important and thus will be needed this information more than Susie. However, I still hesitate to say that Ralsei is malicious in action. What I think would be the most likely reason, if his explanation of the Roaring and Queen’s reaction to it are any indication, it looks like Ralsei’s fatal flaw is assuming his knowledge is common knowledge. After all, he assumed that Queen was opening another Dark Fountain because she wanted to destroy the world, when that couldn’t be further from the case. In all likelihood, Ralsei could be overestimating how perceptive Susie really is when it comes to putting details together.
~Only One Ending...?~
This is something a few people have been debating for a while now. Back when Chapter 1 was released in 2018, Toby Fox said that Deltarune would only have one ending. However, with the addition of Chapter 2′s Pipis Route, many of us are wondering if that was a flat out lie or not. My assumption goes one of two ways. Option A: It was true at the time. During the three year development of Chapter 2 a lot, and I mean a LOT, of things about Deltarune have changed. Initially the game was going to be another mostly solo development similar to Undertale. But, with the larger workload and Toby Fox working on other projects like developing music for the Pokemon games, and on top of all of that going through some pretty bad wrist pains, Fox decided to get a small development team for Deltarune. There were debates on whether to switch Deltarune’s game engine to something like Unity, before settling back to Game Maker. And even when Chapter 1 was released, it was more of a proof of concept than anything, with barely any of the rest of the story being written down. It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if Toby Fox decided to add some more endings because he thought that would work better for what he was going for. Or, Option B: It will be one ending, but in the same way the Normal Ending in Undertale is ‘one ending’. See, while Deltarune likes to emphasize that ‘your choses don’t matter’ and in Undertale ‘your choses do matter’, in actuality, the choses in both games have roughly the same weight. Sure, in Undertale it seems like your choses have more of an impact, but the basic story beats of the game are all the same. You will always fall into the underground, get quasi-adopted by Toriel, go through a wacky puzzle romp with Papyrus, get hunted by Undyne through Waterfall, guest star in Mettaton’s shows with Alphys as your guide, and finally make it to New Home. And there were still some minor questions in Undertale that really had no bearing on what you answered, such as Toriel’s question of if you prefer cinnamon or butterscotch. But because Undertale frames it with ‘your choses matter’ and Deltarune frames it in ‘your choses don’t matter’ we see it as such. So, when it comes to the endings, there really are only three endings in Undertale. The True Genocide ending, where you go all the way through with killing everyone and everything in the Underground, the True Pacifist Ending, where you SPARED everything you came across and completed the necessary friendship side quests, and the Normal Ending. Now, the Normal Ending sounds like a pretty narrow term, considering there’s like at least around 10 different variations of this ending, but the basic plot beats are still the same: You finish the fight with Asgore, fight Omega Flowey, and using the power of the other six souls you (as Frisk) are able to return above ground. Most of what makes this ending different is pretty much flavor text at the very end, with Sans and which ever other characters that are alive/befriended chiming in. I feel like Deltarune’s ending could play out in a similar vein, with larger plot beats being consistent, but specific character’s reactions and what not would change up the ending slightly. And, if we are only given one ending, I feel like there would be a good reason to word it like that. Similarly to what was said some time after on Toby Fox’s twitter about the True Pacifist ending, ‘This is the best ending, nothing more’ when people were wondering if there was a way to save Asriel from his fate in the end. So, if we are told there will be only ‘one ending’ that implies that there’s going to be something we’ll want to change. And what will this change be? Well...
~Don’t Forget, I’m With You In The Dark~
I believe that the ending of Deltarune will involve sealing the Castle Town Fountain. A lot of what’s set up in Deltarune seems to be leading to this. From the suspiciousness of Ralsei, to the premonition of the world ending if too many fountains are open, to the fact that Darkners are unable to consciously interact with the Light World. I’m pretty sure that we’re going to have to say good bye to Ralsei, Lancer, Rouxls, Seam, Queen, and all the rest of the Darkners by the end. And let’s face it, this ending would be the best punch to the gut that the game could offer. But I don’t think it will be all sad. After all, the Darkners will still be with us in spirit, will still be with us in the dark.

My dearest Goblin,
though the summer days float by as gently as linen floats on a breeze, my mind has been nothing if not turbulent with the thought of you. While flowers bloom and bees swarm jubilantly awaiting their nectar, the only being so sweet weighing on my mind is you. Your kind smile, green skin, and cozy sweater have naught but enamored me, mind, body, and soul. The words, wavering across your dash, have engrained themselves into my mind like delicate carvings upon a fine wooden sculpture: eat moss. Such sweeter, truer words have never been spoken. Should we ever cross paths outside of this realm, outside of anonymous, passionate homosexual love letters, then I should enjoy nothing more than to eat moss with you. Together, let us graze upon the finest moss there is, or will ever be, let the birds sing their melodious songs, and let the stars share our joy and love. I shall be awaiting this momentous occasion.
Yours, affectionately,
anon
