They all have their own motivations for joining. There are those who have important roles in the Mystery Council.

Founder: Morgan Ashengrotto- He put the council together in the first place. He attends all the meetings. His motivation for creating this was became he did not like Azul being his Dorm Leader and wondered if there were others who felt the same about their Dorm Leaders and wanted to do something about it.

President: Francois Pyre- He was elected President by the other members. He oversees the meetings. (Book 1 Spoilers) You know how Riddle became looser with the rules after his Overblot? Francois did not like him being loose with the rules at all. That’s why he joined immediately when offered an invitation. He made Alphonse join too.

Vice President: Gigi Amaryllis- He became the Vice President because he got second place to Francois. He compromises with Francois if a decision needs to be made and there are opposing opinions. He joined the Mystery Council because he was jealous of Vil’s beauty and the respect he was given by the entire dorm.

Recruiter: Abdul Amir- He was the first one approached by Morgan. He accepted and carefully invited the other members. He had to be careful with his choices to make sure they weren't betrayed. (Book 4 Spoilers) His reasoning for joining is because he was Jamil's first friend in NRC and he also thinks that Jamil got cheated out of his position as Dorm Leader when Kalim arrived and instantly got appointed to Dorm Leader.

Informant: Ishir Kanan- He gathers any information that might be important and relays it to the council. Nagini is very helpful with this due to people talking in his day spa. The reason he joined is because he wants to prove that he is the strongest, even stronger than his Dorm Leader.

Peacemaker: Nagini Phani- He uses his unique magic in order to keep everyone calm because even in the Mystery Council there can be some pretty intense fights. As per the name he keeps the peace. He joined because he wants to help Ishir reach his goal because Ishir helped Nagini set up his spa.

Treasurer: Neander Abhiratha- His job doesn't require a lot of work, however if the council ever need to spend money for anything (tunnel repairs, uniforms, special materials, parties, lunch, ect.) he figures out the cost. How quickly everything can be paid for depends on how much everyone is willing to pitch in. Neander joined because he genuinely wanted to help Idia. He figured that part of the reason Idia feels stressed out so much is because of his Dorm Leader position. He sometimes worries if joining was the right decision. It didn’t turn out to be what he expected at all.

Head of Security: Sage Asterope- The Trick-or-Treat trio is all a part of the security for the tunnels. If an intruder stumbles upon the tunnels their job is to capture them and use Damien's unique magic to make the intruder forget they were ever there. Sage is in charge because he takes more of the leadership role and comes up with the best ideas. There is no special reason he joined. This is all just fun for the security team.

The rest of them are supporters. They do what they can to help out or go on special missions when they are needed. Supporters don't necessarily need to go to the meetings, but they're always invited. Those with important roles will inform those who didn't attend what happened in the meeting.

What happens in the Mystery Council is mostly discussions on how to overthrow the Dorm Leaders either individually or as a group. Their plans never seem to work. That doesn't stop them from trying though! By being very careful (and by having great security) they haven't been caught yet. Even if they are eventually caught having discussions of challenging Dorm Leaders is completely within the rules. Giving students amnesia is not, but nobody needs to know that. They would prefer to keep their plans secret though. They really don't need any of the dorm leaders finding out about their council.

“Lúthadis,” Thranduil sighed, “that girl would be better in a tavern.”

He liked his son’s best friend, he truly did; she was the kindest soul one could imagine, but that very sunny nature was what made her – in his opinion – so entirely unsuited for the establishment he was running.

“Are you saying that Elrond deserves something good you’re not able to cope with?”

Legolas was leaning against the doorframe, his fluid, elegant limbs draped carelessly against the polished wood.

The idea took hold in his father’s mind, thriving and unfolding at the speed of light; Legolas was not wrong, he could kill two birds with one stone.

“Lú,” he called, “come over here, please!”

She was an amazing waitress – punctual, diligent, and charming – but her ebullient nature made her stick out like a sore thumb in the high-end, hushed, gold-and-velvet spa-hotel Thranduil was running; discretion was key and Lúthadis was anything but subtle.

Even as she made her way over, her dark auburn hair – curly and wild unlike anybody else’s – bobbed like a fire over her pale face with those startingly green eyes that ever sparkled with mischief.

“Yes, boss?” she chirped cheerfully, the dimples in her cheeks deepening as she gave the old stick-in-the-mud a fond smile.

“How would you like working for Elrond for a bit? I need to know what makes him so damn successful when he’s running basically a tavern with rooms upstairs…”

“Corporate espionage,” Lúthadis grinned, “that sounds like fun.”

“Well no,” Thranduil huffed, “maybe a little. Just look around some and ask some questions.”

The truth was that he was bored out of his mind, and he hoped that his – hitherto benign – rivalry with the cute little inn down in the valley would spice things up during the lull of the season; it might – incidentally – also do the girl some good to see a different kind of establishment where she might fit in more easily.

“Alright,” pleasant as ever, Lú agreed easily to her boss’s proposition; on her way up from the village, she had – herself – noticed the beautifully drawn sign in the front window that advertised a vacancy amongst their staff, and she was more than eager to find out what kind of house Elrond ran.

“Who is she?” Lindir looked at the door of his superior’s office nervously as if the new recruit would come bursting through it at any moment, armed to her teeth.

“I’m sure Thranduil sends her,” Elrond smiled, knowing his apparent rival better than the man himself suspected, “she’s one of the kids having grown up in the treehouse.”

What the people around here called affectionately ‘the treehouse’ was a stately, beautiful manor house that Thranduil had transformed into a refuge and oasis within a dense forest of dark trees; known to be contrary and haughty, that very same man had a legendary soft spot for animals, plants, and a random gaggle of kids that could demand anything of him.

“She’s one of his?” Lindir asked breathlessly; he was much less inclined to extend good faith to that colourless, arrogant creature that was Thranduil de facto.

“She has excellent references,” Elrond declared in a decisive tone, “and you’ll show her around.” The fact that the astonishingly small and curvy young maiden was every bit as surprisingly and uncharacteristically beautiful as people said was only an added bonus for the older man; he liked Lindir and he was convinced that it would do him some good to interact with a woman who did not yet know how utterly sweet but helpless he was.

“What’s her name?” Lindir asked, turning around at the door, already sweating as he thought of the stranger about to barge into his peaceful life.

“Lúthadis,” Elrond informed him, “and she truly is enchanting; you’ll see.”

That, Lindir thought, was exactly what he was dreading.

Lúthadis liked men; she liked flirting with them, from time to time, she even liked going out with one and letting him seduce her, so, she was used to them and by no means fearful or insecure around them.

The stern look her new supervisor gave her though sent shivers down her spine that were not entirely nervous in nature; he was beautiful in an ethereal, unreal way.

“Boy oh boy,” she sighed, “can I make you a coffee or something? You look a bit pale.”

“I always look like that,” Lindir replied coolly; he was dumbstruck by the vibrant energy emanating from that tiny woman in front of him. She was unlike anything he would have imagined when thinking of a ward of Thranduil’s.

Where that man was notoriously colourless – all silver and gold – Lúthadis was like an explosion of shades; her hair made him think of the dark, burnished copper of the old tanks in the cellar and her eyes seemed tiny, sparkling windows into the lush forest surrounding her home.

“Hmmm,” she hummed and cocked her head expectantly, “what can I do then? Tell me how to make myself useful.” While she spoke, she was already tidying up the menus strewn across the counter of the restaurant area and absent-mindedly dancing around the staff laying the tables for the evening service.

“I’ll show you around,” Lindir replied formally, losing himself in the meticulous explanations of the different areas and tasks; Lú listened to him go on and on with a faint smile, she had grown up in a hotel and was intimately familiar with all the small details that kept such an enterprise running.

“And here’s my office,” he finished, pointing at a narrow wooden door at the righthand side of an equally as narrow corridor, “Elrond’s is just at the end there.”

“You call him by his first name?” she asked; she had been worried about that as she had accepted Thranduil as a father of sorts and had never used his formal title in her life.

“Everyone does,” Lindir smiled; it was the first genuine smile he had displayed, and Lú couldn’t deny that it felt like witnessing the blooming of a delicate flower under the full moon, “we are not very formal here. That might be a change of pace.”

“Not really,” she replied casually, grinning to herself as she remembered all the shenanigans she had gotten into with Legolas when they had been younger; people were wrong about Thranduil – and God knew that he wanted it that way and encouraged all the absurd gossip about his famed cold-heartedness – for he was, in truth, a very kind person who was prone to worrying too much and – as a consequence – forgetting how to express his overfull heart without sounding too intense.

She loved Thranduil with the same indulgent affection many a daughter held for her ageing father; since her earliest childhood, neither he nor Legolas had made the slightest difference between any of them even though they were the owners of a high-end hotel and she was but a wretch literally left on their doorstep.

“Lindir,” a young woman with long hair the colour of wet sand came strolling down the corridor, “is that the new girl? Why are you hogging her?”

“I am not,” he expostulated vehemently as if she had accused him of some terrible crime.

“I’ll show her around the dining room,” she grinned, “you go and set up the roster.”

“Hi, my name is Ann’ – Anneth really – and Lindir is as reliable as a clock; no doubt, he was already sweating because of his precious timetable being upset,” she then introduced herself.

Lú returned the polite favour and followed the other woman into the dining room where a few members of staff were still laying tables and preparing.

“Your boss, he’s well fit,” Lú sighed before she could suppress the thought from slipping out.

“Which one, dear?” Ann’ laughed, “Doesn’t matter; they’re both single. Come to think of it, Lindir will die single if he doesn’t stop being such a damn stickler for propriety.”

She winked at Lú and was about to hand her a stack of plates to set out when a loud crash was heard, followed by a sharp cry of pain.

One of the girls had dropped something and cut open her whole hand; as she was standing in the middle of the dining room, Lú ripped off her sweatshirt and wrapped it around the injured hand before the blood could undo all her colleagues’ hard work while another girl dashed to call an ambulance and get Lindir.

“It will be okay,” Lú soothed her, listening intently for the siren of the ambulance, and hearing a sharp gasp instead.

“Oh, interesting,” Ann’ chuckled under her breath before calling cheerfully: “Lindir, she’s not going to be able to work tonight. Stop staring at the new girl’s tits and do something.”

“What? No…I…”

When Lú turned around, she could see her new supervisor’s face darken rapidly as the flash flood of blood rose with alarming rapidity in his cheeks; he seemed a very decent chap indeed…and he looked desperate.

His elegant hand rubbed helplessly over that fair brow – puckered in confusion – as he pondered his options.

“If you give me your shirt, I can do it,” Lú offered.

“My…what?” Lindir merely stared back at her, unable to comprehend that a woman – very directly – had asked him to take off his clothes.

“I can either dash up, unpack my whole suitcase, find an appropriate shirt, or you can give me yours,” Lú grinned and motioned to the corridor in which she now knew his office lay.

“Come with me,” he groaned and turned on his heels sharply.

As all of you know, I am deadly insecure about this project (once more), so getting any kind of feedback would be very nice and helpful for me...

Two-Faced Jewel: Session 26

Boated Off the Island

A half-elf conwoman (and the moth tasked with keeping her out of trouble) travel the Jewel in search of, uh, whatever a fashionable accessory is pointing them at. [Campaign log]

Last time, the party confronted the manager of Cabana Jim's Luxury Resort and Spa, Miriko Watchwood. Her attempt to reestablish vampiric dominance over the resort in the wake of Cabana Jim's death was ill-advised and doomed, and they successfully foiled it with a combination of cool-headed diplomacy and brutal emotional manipulation. And now... they want to recruit her???

The deal is simple, and readily accepted: Miriko controls all of Jim's assets, now that he's dead. It won't take long for her to become a wanted criminal, once the cured staff go to the police, so she can't really make use of any of it on her own. So... she'll sign it all over to the party, in exchange for legal services rendered (they did do that, remember? won, even!), and they'll smuggle her out of town.

With her assistance, clearing out the rest of the resort is pretty easy. They spot a thrall, Miriko can mind-whammy them into stopping, Looseleaf can make them vomit up the vamp juice, bish bash bosh. We skip over most of this- I overprepared a Lot Of Stuff That Was Happening At The Resort, like a bizarre hostage situation at the resort's restaurant Bloody Maryville, and I just hit the cliffnotes and get the players on their way.

There's one exception, though- the gardener. This guy is so old and decrepit that de-vampirizing him will probably kill him on the spot, so they have another vampire to smuggle out of the city. And this guy's got requirements. Despite the fact that the cops are probably going to be here soon to crack down on vampires, he refuses to abandon his garden- too much work, too much invested. He'd rather batten down the hatches and physically defend the place, if he has to. Dude has lived in this one greenhouse for at least sixty continuous years without ever leaving it.

The party does a good job of persuading him that staying isn't an option, though- so it comes down to how much of his work they can take with them. They're going to need a cart to carry a greenhouse's worth of experimental crops and samples to harbor, and then when they get there they're going to need a boat that'll take-

-wait. A boat. Hang on a sec. Roll back the tape a sec...

Riiiiiiight. Cabana Jim. Has a boat. A big, expensive, fancy boat, with kraken-proof wards. Which exists to ferry passengers to Cabana Jim's Luxury Resort and Spa. Which is shortly going to Not Exist.

I sort of forgot about this angle and didn't anticipate the "Miriko just gives them all Jim's stuff" approach, here, so, uh...

NOW THEY HAVE A YACHT.

Well, sorta. There's obstacles. Firstly, it belonged to the suspect in a murder trial, so it's currently super impounded by the police. Secondly, the deed's currently in Jim's name, and bringing Miriko down to the nautical registrar under the circumstances could be... kinda difficult.

So... Saelhen busts out her forgery skills to handle the latter, forging a document appending transfer of ownership of the yacht to the existing paperwork specifying payment for their legal representation. She gets a substantial bonus to the roll thanks to having Miriko on-board, who can handle all the legalities of squaring it with Jim's other paperwork- and that end of things is handled. Legally(-ish), they own that boat now. They should have no problem strolling aboard and setting sail!

Ssar expressed interest in trying to learn Looseleaf's spirit magic earlier, so they've actually got some business with them!

Apparently Ssar was called in to take a look at the boat and search for any additional victims, since the boat is heavily warded and covered in all kinds of magic. Seems all clear, though, so the cops will presumably clear out on their own pretty soon. So... that obstacle's no problem! But... well, they're about to leave, so they gotta actually address that magic business.

There were a couple thralls who disappeared and are unaccounted for, so having a local mage who knows the cure procedure on-hand sounds like a pretty good idea.

...Problem is, Looseleaf has no idea how to teach spirit magic. She's always just sort of... done it. She touches something, connects her spirit to its spirit, and then gets a sense of the layout and function of the thing as though it were her own body, at a bit of a remove. She remembers training as a kid to get better at interpreting the spirit sensations and learn different kinds of things (it was all noise when she started out), but she doesn't remember how it became possible.

(Meanwhile, Miriko's warning them telepathically about the secret smuggling hold, used to transport "prospective employees", which the cops can under no circumstances discover. Yeesh.)

So, Looseleaf... doesn't know how to teach this, but maybe she can guess?

Looseleaf gets to work, trying to... just sort of poke around and find what might do the trick. Y'know, experimental exploratory soul surgery. It'll probably be fine! She even rolls a mixed success, which is technically a success!

After one particular misstep, Ssar just freezes and completely zones out for a few seconds, before you undo whatever it is you just did. This is definitely very dangerous work. But you think- you're not sure- you've found something in their soul. It's something that has a weak link to everything in their spirit, so weak that you would barely notice if you weren't looking for it. It's exactly the kind of thing that you might think is responsible for the regulation of the spirit itself. It's something that has every sign of being connected to the mind, as a mental component, but is just barely detached somehow- a critically important yet vestigial spiritual organ. It might be what you're looking for- but it seems obviously very risky to mess with.

What she's figured out gives her a bonus to the upcoming roll, but even with that bonus she'll be rolling against a -12 penalty. So... she makes very clear up-front that this is dangerous and could kill them.

I haven't gone into the details of how the new system works yet (we've moved away from D&D, and it really kicks in when we hit the Thunderbrush arc), but what she rolls here is 2d20, and gets a 20 and a 3. Her total with her bonuses and Luck point is a 30, which is just below the threshold of a full success- but when you roll a 20, the upside of whatever you did is exaggerated somehow, regardless of the outcome. (If you roll a 1, the downside is exaggerated instead.)

So... Looseleaf isolates Ssar's spiritual core and connects it to their conscious mind, awakening them to their spirit-sense. With the 20, there's no overtly dangerous side-effect- no direct impact on their health or anything, and the procedure is a total success. But the downside is...

The downside is that Ssar is now fully awakened to spirit magic and is sensing the spirit of everything they touch, which is resulting in vivid sensations that they have absolutely no experience interpreting, and they don't know how to turn it off.

Ssar jumps overboard into the ocean to escape the floor, which shockingly does not improve the situation. Several cops and Orluthe have to pitch in to rescue them from their flailing panic-drowning, dragging them to shore. As they lie on the beach hyperventilating, Looseleaf goes over to try to help. She doesn't want to risk fucking with their soul again, but she suggests that they use their flight spell to hover in the air- air's spirit is a lot harder to read and should be less overwhelming.

Saelhen suggests trying to be zen and clearing their mind, which... Ssar rolls a failure with a 1, so they clear their mind including their focus on the levitation spell and fall several feet onto some rocks. It takes a little more guided meditation after that to get Ssar to figure out how to turn off the sense.

Ssar moans weakly. "S'cool. We good." "I got it." "Now everything hurts for, a different reason,"

With Looseleaf handling the Ssar situation, Saelhen goes off to find Kensa- who apparently wants to stay on Corolos to attend the fashion school here. Last she knew, Kensa was escorting Sound Mindful back to the acolytes of Andra post-de-vamping- but the cops haven't seen her. One of the ex-vamps being held at the station expresses concern for Sound, who's an orphan and doesn't have anyone to care for her. Saelhen, likewise concerned, goes to check her next guess- Corolos POP!, the fashion school.

She shows up, and- Kensa is indeed there, alongside Sound and... a few other people. One's Cherry, the talent scout who invited Kensa in the first place- and the other is Xzme Glama, headmistress of the school and owner of the fashion brand. She's... seen better days. She's holding out a bag of cash to Reo Nonagon, the police investigator.

Xzme appears to be attempting to retroactively-bribe the police, as thanks for solving Martyr Wargang's murder (which they, uh, didn't do, technically.) Reo refuses the bribe and storms out- which is when Xzme notices Saelhen, the counsel for the defense, at around the time Looseleaf arrives after finishing with Ssar.

"It's so very nice to meet you! You did a spectacular job losing that last case." "I'm very pleased with your performance." There's something of a veiled threat in her tone, but it's not clear what. "…I'm sorry to say that you're misinformed, madam. My co-counsel and I presented what proved to be a very effective defense." "Yes, yes, you exonerated James of the murder, of course, of course- and then, of course, booked him on much tastier charges!" "The best of both worlds, really. God damn. Xzme is shocked that Lady Noeru just casually handed over five thousand gold without even checking how much was in the bribesack Looseleaf got- and is now pretty sure that this is a rich person who's worth pestering for academic donations in the future. For now, though, she heads off, leaving Saelhen and Looseleaf to talk to Kensa and Sound in private.

Sound isn't in a good place mentally, so the party does their best to cheer her up:

Looseleaf gives Sound a talk about scrupulosity, and takes her back to the police station where her former coworkers are worried about her. The more important thing here, though, is that Looseleaf is giving Saelhen some time alone with Kensa for some heartfelt goodbyes.

Looseleaf: [Don't get too embarrassingly emotional. Who knows if something's going to pop up and we're going to wind up staying overnight at Corolos POP again and you'll have to see Kensa again in the morning!]

Saelhen... is freaking out a little. Did she just do a nice thing for someone out of the goodness of her heart? To the tune of five thousand gold? That doesn't sound right...

Kensa: "That was... so much. I didn't- I didn't think about how much it'd cost you, that was..." "You could've done anything with that."

Saelhen: "Well, yes. It... was actually a substantial fraction of Oyobi's share, too, now that I think about it." "I'll have to be nice and let her kill something large." "Without complaining, or..." "Well. A topic for another day."

Kensa: "I... I'll pay you back. I will!" "I'll make it back. I'll make things the richest people in the world want to wear." "And- and I'll take all their money!"

Saelhen coughs. Saelhen: "This is actually something I wanted to discuss with you, while I still have the chance. Not the — good heavens, not repayment terms, I heard that as I said it — no, erm..." "Well, at the risk of weakening my position in the negotiation this undoubtedly is, I... am very tempted to say, 'don't worry about repaying me, we're family.' Which is, I am forced to admit, a very sweet sentiment, but..." "You are not, actually, my niece? I am not your aunt? I've been chiding myself for being a bad aunt even though I am not in fact... that?"

Kensa can't help but laugh a little at that. Kensa: "R-right. That's... that was just our cover." "I- it was fun having an aunt, though. I guess." "Even if it was, um, fake."

Saelhen: "Yes. Not a good aunt, what with the exposure to dangerous situations and vampires and such, but, I hope, a generous and a... pleasant one? To, erm, have around?"

Kensa: "Y-yeah. It was... I learned a lot, I think." "I think... I might even be able to stand up to Mom someday, now." "If- if I ever need to."

Saelhen: "Yes! Yes, I ah, there are obvious — ongoing benefits to — having had me around, clearly working through some kind of complicated... emotional... well, hah, if you hadn't worked out I have terrible issues with family I'd eat my hat, had I a hat —" Saelhen is... definitely rambling. She coughs and visibly straightens her posture. "Well. I would like you to... well, I've written some lessons down. Things I haven't gotten to teach you, yet. You'll be getting that either way. I have no doubt you'll be able to exploit your position here to the hilt. You're capable and bright and, hopefully, as unwilling to be patronized or controlled or... any of that as I wish I'd been at your age."

Kensa: "Some... lessons?"

She produces a booklet from one sleeve. Saelhen: "Ah, erm, yes. Sleight of hand. Persuasion. Some body language tricks. There are diagrams." "Elvish lessons. It's very cathartic to curse in a language no one else speaks." Kensa takes the booklet. Kensa: "...O-oh. Thank... you?" She flips through it a bit, then looks up at you, curious. "You're... actually not evil, aren't you?"

Saelhen: "Erm." "I... define evil?"

She beams. Kensa: "I knew it, deep down." "You're actually almost a good person!"

Saelhen: "Um." "Well. Ha ha. That's..." She discreetly dabs at one eye. "Oh, hell, I super don't need this right now..."

Kensa: Kensa turns a little red. "Oh, uh. Sorry." "It's just- you had me going there for a while."

Saelhen swallows. Saelhen: "No, it's fine. It's fine. I... wow, I was a lot more worried about... well. Never mind. I guess I'm alright." "I just... before I go, I would like you to rationally consider the... advantages of... well, clearly it's a bit moot at this point, and obviously whatever you pick I won't protest, but to consider the advantages of a world-class education which is... the reason you signed on to travel with me at all, and it's paid for anyway and oh hell I'm negotiating against myself, remember not to do that, versus, ah..." And obviously she already knows the answer. Obviously Kensa is getting what she wants already. Obviously she already chose. "Traveling, or continuing to travel, with... a soppy, easily-manipulated rich lady who cares about you very much. And who will pay your tuition anyway if there's anything else, any other expenses that come up, anything. See? I negotiated myself down, dear, you... remember not to do that." "Ha ha." Kensa's face falls. She tears up a little, and then -oh, boy. Goliath hug. That's a lot. Saelhen hugs back, insofar as she is able to in the midst of Goliath hug.

Kensa: "I- I really will miss you," she says. "And when I'm done, I'll find you." "No- before I'm done. I'll- I'll send letters." "Or... I guess, you'll probably want to make yourself hard to find, so..." "Message spells, or something."

Saelhen: "We'll work something out," Saelhen manages. "Be happy. Take care of Sound, she needs a friend. Be good. ...in that order."

Kensa: "...Ha." "That... sounds like a plan." She pulls out something from a pocket hidden in her dress. You gave her a booklet- as it happens, she had a booklet for you, too. She hands it to you. "When I make it big, this will be worth thousands. That's a promise." Saelhen opens it and takes a look. Whatever its contents actually are, she'll be tucking it into the part of her sleeve that's between the bracer and her wrist. Saelhen: "I have no doubt." It's a small sketchbook, containing a bunch of designs and notes for different outfits. Most of it is old, but a few pages in the back have been filled in with fresher drawings. In the older drawings, the models are generic- but the newer ones feature what are (fairly good) drawings of you, in various fashions. Kensa Kanthalga's original sketchbook. It'll be a collector's item one day. Okay! Continuing to definitely not cry, what are you talking about, why would Saelhen be crying! Saelhen: "Hah. See? Financially, I've come out on top." She cracks a smile.

She smiles back.

Kensa: "That's the idea." Her eyes are watering too.

Salute recruits

As for the question what jobs are available in Navy HQ , yes there are. However not many, under the leadership of Fleet Admiral Sakazuki restriction have become much tougher and the new system that hires civilians has increased safety measures.

be prepared to be thoroughly investigated by the Marines before even allowed at trying to apply for a job. Many jobs are often done by Marine veterans, children of marines that are growing up into adults but before the Bootcamp training.

So there is a constant flow of a few jobs to be filled . You will be tested if you can handle the high disciplinary military life style or not.

If not there is no shame in it, the Navy will be giving you a reasonable resume.

If you are accepted after 3 month trial period then welcome to the extended family of the marines.

* jobs that are always needed includes cleaners for the "public" spaces in Navy HQ, the single men in the marines and even by the pregnant wife's of marine officers need a hand.

* the barber shops and hair salons need always a helping hand

* spa facilities need staff to look after the wellbeing of our marines

* local restaurants and bars are in need for regular staff too

* dry cleaners are needed and always wanted uniforms that need to be kept to high standard

Its possible to rise through ranks, in example with the cleaner you can be referred to the head mistress of the cleaning staff that will tutor you in appropriate work ethic and test you if you are loyal enough you may find yourself as a personal cleaner for the vice admirals and admirals offices with a higher level of security clearance.

** archivist is another job helping you to deal with the large amount of files of criminal and keeping them utterly sorted for easy access

** ship builder is a very competitive workspace but if you are gutsy well then good luck, its one of the more popular and sought after jobs

*** secretary is a job that can be achieved by being chosen by a vice admiral or admiral himself /herself it is the highest ranking job that can be obtained and will need proper training and experience beforehand. The job is demanding but rewarding.
