The Mystery Council
Recent rumors have been spread throughout campus about some sort of mystery council. Nobody really knows who’s in it or what the purpose is. Nobody has even managed to find this mystery council (or at least they don’t remember finding it). There is various speculations on how these rumors came to be. There is debate as to whether or not it truly exists.
Despite these rumors, there is a certain group of students who know the truth. They know because they are the ones running this Mystery Council using the secret tunnels throughout the campus. The purpose of this council: overthrow the current Dorm Leaders.
----
Every one of my OCs are in this council, except for Vianna, Sunny, staff members, and students from other schools.
They all have their own motivations for joining. There are those who have important roles in the Mystery Council.
Founder: Morgan Ashengrotto- He put the council together in the first place. He attends all the meetings. His motivation for creating this was became he did not like Azul being his Dorm Leader and wondered if there were others who felt the same about their Dorm Leaders and wanted to do something about it.
President: Francois Pyre- He was elected President by the other members. He oversees the meetings. (Book 1 Spoilers) You know how Riddle became looser with the rules after his Overblot? Francois did not like him being loose with the rules at all. That’s why he joined immediately when offered an invitation. He made Alphonse join too.
Vice President: Gigi Amaryllis- He became the Vice President because he got second place to Francois. He compromises with Francois if a decision needs to be made and there are opposing opinions. He joined the Mystery Council because he was jealous of Vil’s beauty and the respect he was given by the entire dorm.
Recruiter: Abdul Amir- He was the first one approached by Morgan. He accepted and carefully invited the other members. He had to be careful with his choices to make sure they weren't betrayed. (Book 4 Spoilers) His reasoning for joining is because he was Jamil's first friend in NRC and he also thinks that Jamil got cheated out of his position as Dorm Leader when Kalim arrived and instantly got appointed to Dorm Leader.
Informant: Ishir Kanan- He gathers any information that might be important and relays it to the council. Nagini is very helpful with this due to people talking in his day spa. The reason he joined is because he wants to prove that he is the strongest, even stronger than his Dorm Leader.
Peacemaker: Nagini Phani- He uses his unique magic in order to keep everyone calm because even in the Mystery Council there can be some pretty intense fights. As per the name he keeps the peace. He joined because he wants to help Ishir reach his goal because Ishir helped Nagini set up his spa.
Treasurer: Neander Abhiratha- His job doesn't require a lot of work, however if the council ever need to spend money for anything (tunnel repairs, uniforms, special materials, parties, lunch, ect.) he figures out the cost. How quickly everything can be paid for depends on how much everyone is willing to pitch in. Neander joined because he genuinely wanted to help Idia. He figured that part of the reason Idia feels stressed out so much is because of his Dorm Leader position. He sometimes worries if joining was the right decision. It didn’t turn out to be what he expected at all.
Head of Security: Sage Asterope- The Trick-or-Treat trio is all a part of the security for the tunnels. If an intruder stumbles upon the tunnels their job is to capture them and use Damien's unique magic to make the intruder forget they were ever there. Sage is in charge because he takes more of the leadership role and comes up with the best ideas. There is no special reason he joined. This is all just fun for the security team.
The rest of them are supporters. They do what they can to help out or go on special missions when they are needed. Supporters don't necessarily need to go to the meetings, but they're always invited. Those with important roles will inform those who didn't attend what happened in the meeting.
----
What happens in the Mystery Council is mostly discussions on how to overthrow the Dorm Leaders either individually or as a group. Their plans never seem to work. That doesn't stop them from trying though! By being very careful (and by having great security) they haven't been caught yet. Even if they are eventually caught having discussions of challenging Dorm Leaders is completely within the rules. Giving students amnesia is not, but nobody needs to know that. They would prefer to keep their plans secret though. They really don't need any of the dorm leaders finding out about their council.
----
I personally love the Dorm Leaders, however that doesn't mean my characters have to. I feel like these motivations and emotions add to their characters. Feel free to ask any questions!

And justified picking what feel like extremely ostentatious and maudlin names, replete with high-flown in-world allusions, pointed barbs at rivals, or hints at scandalous secrets regarding the new baby’s parentage... because Orlesian noble parents would. It’s also fun to work out etymological replacement names.
(NAME THOUGHTS)
So, Thedas has no exact France named “France”, but of course there could be characters names Francois or Francine, and you could explain it away where the word France is a place name, but a village somewhere. Or rely on cutting out the place of France idea, and stick with what France itself is derived from - Franks, which you could treat a name like Francine as meaning free/freeman or as being from the javelin/lance reference... and just map it on to whatever Thedas language you think matches up if that even needs to be discussed in your story.
Reference: https://www.etymonline.com/word/Frank?ref=etymonline_crossreference
But what about the spiritual successor to a name like Francine for Thedas? An Orlesian equivalent could be “Orlesine” “Orlecine” or other spellings ... and you can go on from there trying out your chosen language (like French and near-French) name parts (particularly suffixes) on any proper noun names from Thedas. You might replace Germaine with Anderaine or Andraine sometimes. Amaranthine is pretty all by itself, but you can go for Amaranti or Amarantos, Amaranta, for an Antivan (Italian/Spanish) sound. Fracture a given proper noun on the map into all possible “Thedas” language groups. Can even try to meaning-for-meaning swap things in and out of Elvhen or Dwarven or Qunlat or if we had Alamarri or something. And have it be that they’re actually borrowing a different culture’s name idea in, on purpose, to better or sillier effects.
This process is the next step past what they did naming Anders as they did. Which already is the kind of detail that adds verisimilitude to a story’s place names, linking them up to the cultures they arose from and feed back into. Or other names, like fictional plants, metals, concepts, and so on. Someone should be named Emberius or Emberia, right along with Sage, Lily, Rose, or Floret!
Also to be Catholicky, these Andrastians really need to have adopted every last related central Chant concept word or name variation of their central cast of “good figures” as names for their kids. And I want Andraste to be a perfectly normal name for a baby in some places and times, and rare, weird or heretical in others.
Taboos on what can be a name being different different places is interesting to add to a culture. I’ve considered both naming a dwarven character Isana, or hiding the word isana somewhere in the name (ex: Garisana) and having it be a high-status first name ... but then you could alternatively throw in the detail that most Orzammari drwarves currently find it against the Stone or super conceited or garish or bizarre to name themselves after lyrium in any way. Like if you named a kid Money or Oil. Then it could mark a person as an outsider whose parents were clearly separated from the culture, but remembered that word. Or a suspicious surfacer somebody faking a dwarfy name poorly.
This fits in with all the unfortunate ‘too cool’ or ‘awkwardly pious’ names we know have got to be out there, too, knowing the good people of Thedas. Ser Wyvern Vimmarkus Elder IV of Ostwick, the newly minted Templar in squeaky armor, arrests Our-Lady’s-Pyre (”Pyre”) the town’s best brewer on suspicion of apostasy. She resists arrest, setting her vats alight.
Last name thought, magic means accurate portents and prophesies available for some mages (or maybe even kind of sensitive non-mages?) to pick up on, maybe in dreams before the brith. And this provides an excellent excuse for oddly-fitting, and seeming to reference aspects of the named child’s future in a way parents could not predict in any normal way.
I still kind of try to avoid this urge, or at least hide it in the middle names, unless I am going to make it an “uncanny!” plot point that gets noticed by characters. But also, sometimes you got to just go for it without a plan.
not me remembering that the Marquis of Serault is a noble and then going to look at lists of old French given names bc I now feel justified in adding some more parts to their name

10 Interesting Polish Books
The Spies of Warsaw
“An Autumn Evening In 1937. A German engineer arrives at the Warsaw railway station. Tonight, he will be with his Polish mistress; tomorrow, at a workers' bar in the city's factory district, he will meet with the military attache from the French embassy. Information will be exchanged for money. So begins The Spies of Warsaw, the new novel by Alan Furst. War is coming to Europe. French and German intelligence operatives are locked in a life-and-death struggle on the espionage battlefield. At the French embassy, the new military attache, Colonel Jean-Francois Mercier, a decorated hero of the 1914 war, is drawn into a world of abduction, betrayal, and intrigue in the diplomatic salons and back alleys of Warsaw. At the same time, the handsome aristocrat finds himself in a passionate love affair with a Parisian woman of Polish heritage, a lawyer for the League of Nations. Colonel Mercier must work in the shadows, amid an extraordinary cast of venal and dangerous characters - Colonel Anton Vyborg of Polish military intelligence; the mysterious and sophisticated Dr. Lapp, senior German Abwehr officer in Warsaw; Malka and Viktor Rozen, at work for the Russian secret service; and Mercier's brutal and vindictive opponent, Major August Voss of SS counterintelligence. And there are many more, some known to Mercier as spies, some never to be revealed.” (goodreads.com)
The Kommandant’s Girl
Nineteen-year-old Emma Bau has been married only three weeks when Nazi tanks thunder into her native Poland. Within days Emma's husband, Jacob, is forced to disappear underground, leaving her imprisoned within the city's decrepit, moldering Jewish ghetto. But then, in the dead of night, the resistance smuggles her out. Taken to Krakow to live with Jacob's Catholic aunt, Krysia, Emma takes on a new identity as Anna Lipowski, a gentile. Emma's already precarious situation is complicated by her introduction to Kommandant Richwalder, a high-ranking Nazi official who hires her to work as his assistant. Urged by the resistance to use her position to access details of the Nazi occupation, Emma must compromise her safety—and her marriage vows—in order to help Jacob's cause. As the atrocities of war intensify, so does Emma's relationship with the Kommandant, building to a climax that will risk not only her double life, but also the lives of those she loves.” (goodreads.com)
The Things we Cherished
“An ambitious novel that spans decades and continents, The Things We Cherished tells the story of Charlotte Gold and Jack Harrington, two fiercely independent attorneys who find themselves slowly falling for one another while working to defend the brother of a Holocaust hero against allegations of World War II–era war crimes. The defendant, wealthy financier Roger Dykmans, mysteriously refuses to help in his own defense, revealing only that proof of his innocence lies within an intricate timepiece last seen in Nazi Germany. As the narrative moves from Philadelphia to Germany, Poland, and Italy, we are given glimpses of the lives that the anniversary clock has touched over the past century, and learn about the love affair that turned a brother into a traitor. Rich in historical detail, Jenoff’s astonishing new work is a testament to true love under the worst of circumstances.” (goodreads.com)
Death in Breslau
“Occupied Breslau, 1933: Two young women are found murdered on a train, scorpions writhing on their bodies, an indecipherable note in an apparently oriental language nearby ...Police Inspector Eberhard Mock's weekly assignation with two ladies of the night is interrupted as he is called to investigate. But uncovering the truth is no straightforward matter in Breslau. The city is in the grip of the Gestapo, and has become a place where spies are everywhere, corrupt ministers torture confessions from Jewish merchants, and Freemasons guard their secrets with blackmail and violence. And as Mock and his young assistant Herbert Anwaldt plunge into the city's squalid underbelly the case takes on a dark twist of the occult when the mysterious note seems to indicate a ritual killing with roots in the Crusades” (goodreads.com)
In the warsaw Ghetto
“Ala Silberman is training to be a dancer when the Germans invade Warsaw. Together with almost half a million other Jews, Ala and her family are forced into the ghetto, where she struggles with feelings of guilt at her comparative privileged circumstances. Then Ala's enigmatic teacher forms a dance company with the intention of putting on a performance for the ghetto's residents. Max Silberman, Ala's uncle, is a bachelor, who still carries the flame for the girl he knew at university. She married someone else and he hasn't seen her for over a decade. When he meets her in the ghetto and discovers she and her two children have been abandoned by her Catholic husband all his dormant hopes are incongruously revived amidst the squalor and destitution surrounding him. In the Warsaw Ghetto tells the deeply moving story of Ala and Max's struggle to preserve their aspirations in the midst of the inhumane conditions of the Warsaw ghetto, until the deportations to the death camps begin and the Jews organise themselves into a fighting force determined to oppose the Nazis.” (goodreads.com)
House of Day, House of Night
“Nowa Ruda is a small town in Silesia, an area that has been a part of Poland, Germany, and the former Czechoslovakia in the past. When the narrator moves into the area, she discovers everyone--and everything--has a story. With the help of Marta, her enigmatic neighbor, the narrator accumulates these stories, tracing the history of Nowa Ruda from the its founding to the lives of its saints, from the caller who wins the radio quiz every day to the man who causes international tension when he dies straddling the border between Poland and Czechoslovakia. Each of the stories represents a brick and they interlock to reveal the immense monument that is the town. What emerges is the message that the history of any place--no matter how humble--is limitless, that by describing or digging at the roots of a life, a house, or a neighborhood, one can see all the connections, not only with one's self and one's dreams but also with all of the universe. Richly imagined, weaving anecdote with recipes and gossip, Tokarczuk's novel is an epic of a small place. Since its publication in 1998 it has remained a bestseller in Poland. House of Day, House of Night is the English-language debut of one of Europe's best young writers.” (goodreads.com)
Death of Danzig
“Germans flee the besieged city of Danzig in 1945. Poles driven out of eastern regions controlled by the Russians move into the homes hastily abandoned by their previous inhabitants. In an area of the city graced with beech trees and a stately cathedral, the stories of old and new residents intertwine: Hanemann, a German and a former professor of anatomy, who chooses to stay in Danzig after the mysterious death of his lover; the Polish family of the narrator, driven out of Warsaw; and a young Carpathian woman who no longer has a country, her cheerful nature concealing deep wounds. Through his brilliantly defined characters, stunning evocation of place, and memorable descriptions of a world that was German but survives in Polish households, Chwin has created a reality that is beyond destruction.” (goodreads.com)
Night of flames
“Painting a vivid and terrifying picture of war-torn Europe during World War II, this tale chronicles the lives of Anna, a Krakow university professor, and her husband Jan, a Polish cavalryman. After they are separated and forced to flee occupied Poland, Anna soon finds herself caught up in the Belgian Resistance, while Jan becomes embedded in British Intelligence efforts to contact the Resistance in Poland. He soon realizes that he must seize this opportunity to search for his lost wife, Anna.” (Amazon.com)
A minor Apocalypse
“As in his novel The Polish Complex, Konwicki's A Minor Apocalypse stars a narrator and character named Konwicki, who has been asked to set himself on fire that evening in front of the Communist Party headquarters in Warsaw in an act of protest. He accepts the commission, but without any clear idea of whether he will actually go through with the self-immolation. He spends the rest of the day wandering the streets of Warsaw, being tortured by the secret police and falling in love. Both himself and Everyman, the character-author experiences the effects of ideologies and bureaucracies gone insane with, as always in history, the individual struggling for survival rather than offering himself up on the pyre of the greater good. Brilliantly translated by Richard Lourie, A Minor Apocalypse is one of the most important novels to emerge from Poland in the last twenty five years.” (goodreads.com)
The Things we cannot say
“In 1942, Europe remains in the relentless grip of war. Just beyond the tents of the Russian refugee camp she calls home, a young woman speaks her wedding vows. It’s a decision that will alter her destiny…and it’s a lie that will remain buried until the next century. Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now fifteen and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears. Where Alina used to measure time between visits from her beloved, now she measures the spaces between hope and despair, waiting for word from Tomasz and avoiding the attentions of the soldiers who patrol her parents’ farm. But for now, even deafening silence is preferable to grief. Slipping between Nazi-occupied Poland and the frenetic pace of modern life, Kelly Rimmer creates an emotional and finely wrought narrative that weaves together two women’s stories into a tapestry of perseverance, loyalty, love and honor. The Things We Cannot Say is an unshakable reminder of the devastation when truth is silenced…and how it can take a lifetime to find our voice before we learn to trust it.” (goodreads.com)

-Although Francois is in the game club, he loves to watch Equestrian club practice. He loves horses and has one of his own at home.

-Francois is not a fan of unbirthday parties or any party really.
-Alphonse is a big fan of musical theater. His favorite actor is Vil Schoenheit.
-Francois does not get along well with Gigi. They can never seem to see eye to eye on things. Their petty rivalry started as something small and nobody can even remember what it is anymore.
-Alphonse used to be a big problem child in his first year. He used his unique magic to influence people to fight each other. He didn't have any friends, so he did this to cure his boredom. This kept up until Francois dueled him. Francois won and he made Alphonse promise not to use his unique magic for such purposes again. After that Alphonse gained a lot of respect for Francois and they became friends soon after.
-Francois was neighbors with Rollo and they did not get along in the slightest.
-Alphonse didn't realize that he needed glasses until Francois suggested he might. Alphonse soon found out that he was nearsighted.
