While I do tend t'be a critic of m'self, there's a couple songs m'actually really fond of. One being "The Boy with the Spike in His Side."

It's 'bout how the music industry, doesn' like t'give newer musicians chances, an' do all they can to be a "spike" in their side. They don' like putting their belief and trust in new musicians, 'specially those on the poorer side, like m'self. That's what these lyrics subtly hint at:

"They don't want to believe us And if they don't believe us now Will they ever believe us? And when you want to live, how do you start? Where do you go? Who do you need to know?"

Introducing your station master & Magma event host!

Since there's already a lot of passengers visiting this station and I haven't spared much time to get to know my fellow submas fans over Tumbrl yet, an introduction would be in place!

I'm Jun, nice to meet you! *offers a hand for for a shake* I am a devoted submas artist & a monthly Magma event host! I go by ChooChooBoss everywhere (Twitter/Bsky/Twitch/Ko-Fi)!

This will be a long post! I will write a short intro as well which you can just skim through but here is a more in depth view how I got into submas, my other interests and life in general, in case you'd wish to know more about your conductor on this silly train!

How did I get into submas in the first place?

PLA. I met this certain mysterious & cool fellow time traveler and got curious! After the cave scene I went to read his Wiki, found out about Emmet, and... yeah. The emotional impact blasted me right out of a miserable cycle I was going through back then and set my soul on fire!! A month later I set up my first art account on Twitter, and the rest is history. They've become my greatest source of strength and inspiration and I enjoy drawing them every single day!

I love both twins very much! I tend to vibe with Ingo a little more than Emmet, but I draw Emmet more. People say I remind of butler Ingo the most, hehe. I certainly don't mind because I'm a big fan of butlermas!! In fact I got into submas & started playing Pokémon Masters EX in April 2022, a week before butler Ingo banner rolled in, so they truly got a special place in my heart ahah! (pssst draw more butlermas for me pls pls pls-)

However I don't draw warden Ingo as much as I would like to. I still get pretty emotional over his fate ahah, I can't draw him without a single tear! This sweet & kind man leading a good life and being an inspiration to others has been torn from literally everything he had for seemingly no reason apart from his name, clothes and the muscle memory and even those are barely intact. It seems like a miracle he's still standing and breathing after put through everything judging by the wear and tear on his uniform and body. Despite all that he carries a positive attitude, assists everyone in need, and does his best to help people and pokémon understand each other, unconditionally... Oh, my face is wet again...

My other interests besides submas?

Monster Hunter! Zelda! Genshin Impact! Super Mario! Trine! Crash Team Racing! And many many more! My favourite genres are platformers, kart racers, and action games, with a side of rhythm games. I'm a big fan of co-op games! I also watch my sis play JRPGs!

Monster Hunter is the dearest to me out of all. I've been hunting for well over a decade starting from MHFU. The games have charmed me with their incredibly satisfying combat system, world building, creature design, great attention to detail, character customisation and the games being nearly fully co-op!!

Other things I do:

Pokémon is practically the only turn-based game I enjoy, mainly because of the characters and collection aspect. However!! I adore Pokémon Colosseum (the first pkmn game I ever played!) and it's double battle focus, so The Indigo Disc has been a delight after the long starvation for double battles, coming up with different combinations makes the battles much more fun to me!!... I sound like Emmet here do I ahahah! We also share the fact we are both left-handed!

Shuffle dancing, daily pull-ups, and expanding my ever growing VGM collection! I also enjoy traveling and taking photos to keep as a diary! I've played piano in a music school for 9 years, and I can also play kalimba. I've done casual boxing, gymnastics, horse riding and medieval swordfighting. I used to read comics/manga and watch movies and anime but nowadays I barely do that, I just rather use that time for drawing instead of just sitting and watching, unless I have company!

I share the apartment with my anxious brother and our two sweet female cats, Laku (11, stubborn and cuddly) and Kalevi (21, demanding and full of love) in a city center. My parents are both entrepreneurs and run a farm in the countryside & I have 4 siblings with me as the middle kid!

Where can you meet me?

I am a game artist by profession, with 4 yrs of studies and roughly 7 years of EXP in the field doing game art, UI design, character/prop design, in mobile games as well as PC titles, 2D and 3D. At the moment I am looking for work; I keep up the motivation and learn new skills by running my art accounts while looking for new opportunities.

I hail from the land of darkness, snow, salmiakki, metalheads and renownly reserved people, Finland! (UTC+2)

Despite having my roots here I am pretty much the opposite of a typical Finn in almost every sense ahah! I'm a small guy who's not afraid talking to strangers and laughs a lot. And I dislike coffee for the contrary, it's very popular amongst finns.

With the inspiration from submas I've finally stepped into the world of cosplay so you can usually meet this small and excitable Ingo in the biggest local conventions, Desucon and Tracon! Come say hi!

About my social battery:

I'm both social and socially anxious ahah! I love making new friends and talking to all sorts of people and writing comments, and gathering together with my mutuals to do cool stuff together! However my social battery is very small... I often struggle with my AD(H)D and anxiety issues, so my replies can be extremely slow. I'm easily overwhelmed when life gets busy and I deal with it by withdrawing to minimise the the stimuli and then sorting my stuff out one by one. This is a frustrating shortcoming, but I'm working hard to find a balance I can maintain without getting exhausted. Please be patient with me! If you don't hear from me in a while, please don't take it personally! In fact, it makes me really happy if you contact me, for any purpose!

Which pronouns do I go with?

I go by they/them! I am also aroace, so if I appear to show any sort of romantic interest, it's definitely not that. I love meeting new people and am quite interested in people in general so I'm excited to get to know you better, but the thing is... I have been confusing people on several occassions for saying things that could be taken as flirting. I am terribly sorry for that, that's just the way I show how I care!

I don't really identify myself by any specific gender either, but rather by my roles or interests (Magma host, submas fan, game artist etc.). Submas encouraged me to enjoy dressing formally even if I'm just sitting at home, because I love formal clothing in general and wearing them makes me feel confident and stand taller! I usually wear collar shirts and black or white slacks.

More about my AD(H)D:

I don't have an official diagnosis but deal with the same problems as AD(H)D people do; poor work memory, dissociation, hyperfocus (drawing and people), sleep deprivation, impulsiveness (juggling too many things and going with the wind), getting sensory/information overloads, and feeling like I don't fit in. I figured it out after I finished school & lost my job for that I am unable to handle big tasks without anyone giving me directions. It has taken a while but I've figured out things that help me manage my daily life as well as have a medication that mainly boosts my capability to get things started which is another great struggle ahah.

How do I manage to keep myself on track?

I use a Pomodoro timer to keep up a good flow and remember to take breaks! This is what I use the most:

I should set it up on my tablet as well. I think it's really cool to see how many hours I have actually put into drawing! Last year I clocked in well over 3k hours, ahaha!

How to catch me?

Right now I have great difficulty managing replies, but usually you can reach me by DMs! I check Discord and Twitter the most often! However I must ask you to respect my current DNI status. It means I am really overwhelmed so I wish nobody comes asking for my attention until it has been lifted, unless it's really necessary. I really love talking to you all but I also have to accept and deal with my own limits strictly like this or it won't work out.

What am I working on at the moment?

Besides the holiday set I have several short comics under works as well as one big comic (100+ pages!). That one is my personal greatest goal! I started working on it in June 2022 and I have currently 40+ pages sketched and 60+ thumbnailed.

I was afraid of starting any comic projects before submas, but the sheer excitement over them carried me over that personal wall ahah!

The story's beginning and end are looking good and somewhat functional but there's still a lot to work to do and holes to fill in the middle before I dare to start fleshing out the pages. I have little experience in writing or comic making so I hope you forgive if some things don't make sense or the dialogue is a little on the nose so to say ahah!

The story will be packed with action with the overall tone being on the darker side, but it sure won't be lacking in humor! The project's main goal is to make it a celebration of all things submas & to prove to myself I can handle a big scale project despite my shortcomings!

4. who was your first favorite character when you initially got into your f/o’s source content? was it your f/o from the very beginning?

OK SO i first started playing pokemon when i was like... 9? i had gotten a copy of pkmn platinum bc a family friend found a ds cartridge with a torn off label on the sidewalk randomly. and my first fave was technically barry! idk what it was but i was like hehe barry time :3 (although roark was a close second, which is ironic given he's my buddy now LOL) i technically knew bill in college when i finally had a chance to play more than just platinum (which i lost that cartridge ages ago. F) but i didn't know him until i watched my bf play let's go pikachu. whatever fucking juice they put in that cutscene was NUTS because both i and my boyfriend saw him and were like WHY IS HE HOT??? that was in like. feb 2022? bill's actually the f/o that convinced me to make a selfship sideblog so like wahoo! it's. really funny that bill sparked me really entering the selfship community despite me having selfshipped since i was like 6 in terms of the kanto games though... yeah he was probably my first kanto-appearing crush LOL (distinguishing that bc he's not kantonian he's from johto <3)

9. if your f/o has been represented in more than one way (i.e. in a book AND a movie, in a movie and then recasted for a reboot later, etc.), which version of them is your favorite?

ok so bill appears in like... the kanto games (rgb, frlg, lgpe), the johto games (gsc, hgss), the anime (like once in indigo league), and in the manga (pokespe + a few others) the one that made me fall in love with him was the lgpe version, BUT i will say i love that crystal and frlg gave us more lore ON bill. crystal gave us lore on his dad that he doesn't like (for being a deadbeat iirc) and frlg has the whole fact checker where i learn he is a fellow lactose intolerant sdfhskj he doesn't really do much in any of his media except pokespe to my knowledge, and from what bits and bobs i know i think he's pretty neat (i love the southern accent that is also present in the games a bit but goes HARDER in the manga) and also i love the idea of him actually having like. more plot appearance than just one time (also what he and daisy kind of have going on seems a little cute. i won't even lie to myself) fun fact did you know in one manga his wife literally turned into mew. more notably that he had a wife in the first place (and no it wasn't me. i know i'm shocked as well)

10. if you could change one thing about your f/o’s source content, would you? what would you change?

ok. i would probably make him more involved maybe i'm just thinking wishfully bc of the manga knowledge i have but in the johto games (or kanto) i wish he had more to do with trying to stop the resurrection of team rocket given he was the one in pokespe who pushed for stricter gym leader guidelines once several gym leaders were outed as part of team rocket. like idk he feels like he should have more relevance in the games and he just....DOESN'T. IDK please just give him more than two seconds of screen time nintendo i BEG of you

Sticking to game and some anime and Pokemon Special canon. Stuff like the hybrid Pokémon stuff, like a Liepard and a Zoroark making a half-Liepard half-Zoroark, aren’t canon here on this blog. Mommy Liepard has baby Purrloin, and maybe a baby Zorua very very rarely here.

Combining anime and game and manga canon into an unholy mishmash, some Pokemon are capable of human intelligence. Some are not and are feral headed. Think Bojack Horseman, kind of.

Character treats legendaries as deities with major respect. Don’t interact if that makes you uncomfortable. Expect to be called a Lord or Lady or Leige if you’ve even brushed against a Legendary once.

No glitch Pokemon stuff. I'm justifying things like underleveled evolution, moves they shouldn't know, etc as it's in actual canon (Underleveled evolution: Lance, Falkner, Red Gyarados, etc. Moves they shouldn't know: Lance, a few trainers there's an entire list on Bulbapedia.) and not an unintentional glitch, but that's still rare and extreme circumstances/life-or-death situations or requires some serious hacking of TMs and biological manipulation.

Due to Dr Hasan's idiotic ideas on trans people ("sissy hypno porn is proof trans people are a cult" to summarize) as well as it being repeatedly criticized by other more credible cult resewrchers, I will no longer be using the BITE model.

The Pokemon Universe is big and the story is told among three different mediums game (the original source), anime, and manga. So, there a  number of different ways to portray the main cast and others just in general. With this mind I’m aware that people either do one specific portrayal based off either the game, anime, or manga or they do a mixture of them. I’m here to explain how I do things here with my pkmn muses. Explanation below the cut.

Primary Muses

Sapphire Birch/Odamaki

By default I will write her strictly adhering to the Pkmn Special canon as that was how I was first introduced to her character and ended up loving her as a result.

I can do a Game Verse upon request, but for this she remains as Prof. Birch’s daughter and thinking Sapphire in the context of being Norman’s daughter only has me think of her anime counterpart Haruka/May. I’ll only do the ‘Sapphire is Norman’s daughter’ route with planning between myself and any Norman mun who interested.

When interacting with anime based characters Sapphire will comment on how these characters look like people she knows. That is as far as it will go as nothing from her Pkmn Special canon will be mentioned during interactions.

Pkmn Special Default / Game Verse upon request

Prof. Birch / Dr. Odamaki

To a point Prof. Birch is basically portrayed the same in all mediums he appeared in. So he basically a mixture of all verses. Though, he has more of a presence in the anime than he does in the game and manga. A large part of his portrayal will lean towards the anime.

A combination of all mediums.

Wallace / Mikuri

There isn’t a default verse I’ll be keeping him too. Personality-wise, he seem the same to me for all of them with perhaps the exception to Pkmn Special. It is the only time one see his serious side come out more often than and being that mentor that Ruby needed. The game does show it as well, but like in spades.

Just expect a lot of sass from Wallace as that’s one of the things I like about his character.

Pkmn Special Verse / Game Verse / Anime Verse

I’m not turning this blog into a multifandom blog - I promise! I just enjoy this silly little vampire series enough to where I couldn’t resist adding this guy. He’s based in a PKMN verse by default.

Notes are under the cut, but for a quick TL;DR - I yoinked this funky vampire out of his source verse and threw him into the PKMN world - as if he was a faller - just so that I could retain lore from his source material while also avoiding adding weird implications to the Pokémon world.

NOTES.

I’ve dropped Gavner into a Pokémon verse - and that is going to be his default one. If you’re not familiar with his source, that is 100% fine, it more than likely won’t influence interactions.

IC-wise, he’s not from the Pokémon world ; he showed up with zero clue what on earth a Pokémon even is. Let’s just say he’s more or less a faller, kind of. He did retain his memory - but much of his knowledge has become obsolete.

He has adapted to the world, and is able to carry conversations through charisma and picking up context cues - even if he has zero clue what your muse is talking about.

Pretty much, treat him like you would any canon character.

Gavner is a ~ vampire ~. How ~ spooky ~! No, your muse probably doesn’t know about this fact.

I’ll go more in-depth on relevant lore and information in headcanon posts as time goes on! I just don’t want to infodump 12 books worth of lore right on his muse page.

Ack, this is tough! There are some “filler” anime episodes featuring Hinata that I definitely consider part of her canon, but I think I prefer the manga interpretation better- Mainly with her relationships with her family.  The anime makes it seem like she grew closer with her father/sister in ways that never happened in the manga.  Hinata and her sister are kind of.. Estranged, in the manga.  Whereas in the anime their relationship appears more sisterly.  I find the manga portrayal of the relationship to appear more accurate given their situation, and so I prefer that one. 

⏳ - Is there anything in your muse’s canon history that you wish to change?

I hate that in Canon we never see Hinata upset w/ Naruto for essentially like. 100% forgetting her love confession + near-death experience for him during the Pein attack on the village.Wtf was that?? If I sacrificed myself for someone and then they ignored/forgot that it happened, I would be so livid.  I wish canon had given us some sort of confrontation about that.  Hinata deserved to have her feelings truly acknowledged.

Honestlyyyyy, my Mass Effect and Dragon Age AUs. Pokemon ones, too.  I used to use my Pokemon one quite heavily,but idk where all my pkmn mutuals went.

all manga portrayals of dppt protag fit a lot of Common Traits with my muses and i’ve been interested in rping him for a long time BUT i don’t need more blogs and i haven’t read/fully read the source material for two of my choices (just the bulbapedia articles, which sparked my interest in them)

dia seems calmer than hareta and has analytical talent while still having a better than average ability to communicate w/ pokemon, has interest in cooking BUT i haven’t read dppt pokespe and as he’s described as “usually apathetic” i may get bored with that

hareta is literally just n but in sinnoh (raised by pkmn, able to communicate w/ them, very defensive of them), expressive, fairly unique muse, has an empoleon BUT i... also haven’t read dpa, plus he seems fairly energetic and i have a tough time keeping that up

with a game/mixed canon lucas i can do whatever i want BUT sometimes being able to do whatever i want ends up with me getting bored or worrying i’ve gotten too ridiculous with it, plus finding the right mix of canons might be tough

i have a game/mixed canon lucas on discord already but idk if i want that particular incarnation to be the one on tumblr too. he cute and soft but i specifically only brought him in as a minor character

just like an overall pro: i just nabbed a canon url somehow so that’s nice

Do you have any major inspirations (storytelling, art, characters, etc.) when it comes to your verse?

This is going to be an incomplete list because I get inspiration from a lot of places. And since I’m pretty sure this is going to get long, I’ll try to keep each point short! 

One major inspiration for me is @pkmn-downtheline because without them, this blog wouldn’t exist. 

On a similar note, all the other fankid blogs help inspire me and keep me motivated! The fankid discord is also a really great source of motivation too. 

Pokémon (games, manga, and anime) are an inspiration too. 

FMA:B is another inspiration for me. 

ATLA is a huge inspiration for me. LOK is too. 

Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess are huge inspirations. Honestly, whenever I listen to either soundtrack, I feel like I can write anything.

Star Wars has recently become an inspiration, mainly the Clone Wars and Rebels, but the original trilogy has had its influence on me too.

Stardew Valley has become a relatively recent inspiration too.

Gravity Falls has had a huge influence on me! I just... love it so much.

Funnily enough, some courses I’ve taken have inspired me too. They help develop a kid’s interests sometimes!

As much as I hate to admit it, v*ltron has had an influence on me, though this is mainly for what I shouldn’t do instead.

Into the Spiderverse has to be mentioned! The whole film was just so good. 

Of course, there’s Rise of the Guardians! That film has really changed my life in so many ways. 

The Percy Jackson series has inspired me too! The books are the main inspiration for me, but the musical also has had its influence.

The first How to Train Your Dragon movie has had a huge influence on me! 

The Rune Factory series (mainly 3 and 4) have inspired me too. The RF AU is probably one of my favourite things to work on in my free time. 

There’s also a wide range of Disney movies that have inspired me in different ways.

I listen to a wide range of music which helps to inspire me.

Generator Rex has inspired me too! 

My love of baking helped to inspire Oliver, so that has to be mentioned. 

Phineas and Ferb has also been a major inspiration for me! 

Basically, I draw inspiration from everywhere and anything!
