Okay, with that out of the way: Servant Quackity AU

So, as Kat said above, Quackity is in canon very much afraid of Dream’s retribution. This is not the case in this AU — not anymore — because Dream is now so injured and in need of care that he can’t even hold a spoon on his own. And with Tommy’s newfound support for the Dream Is A Person idea, he’s lost the main thing that he used to justify him being in pain. His self esteem doesn’t really take a hit from this — he never prided himself as a “good person” anyway — but it does mean that thing just got a hell of a lot more awkward. He can’t be satisfied by the sight of Dream struggling anymore, and over time this response diminishes until it’s barely there at all.

Dream’s reaction to Quackity doesn’t change a bit.

He’s terrified. He’s angry. He’s humiliated. He’s violated. He hates that everyone else just — fucking — up and abandoned him into the arms of the guy that tortured him for months. He isn’t responding to Quackity’s attempts to be nice, to be sociable, to get him to open up. Of course he isn’t. But he’s also extremely lonely, so when Quackity shapeshifts into someone else. Well. Dream doesn’t really have any choice but to lean into it. It’s an escapist fantasy: his friends are all right here with him, able to smile to his face and tease him gently and give him the kind of kindness he hasn’t really gotten from them in years. Sometimes he can even forget that it’s all an act.

Quackity often feels like he’s intruding on a conversation between Dream and other people. It’s a weird feeling, because he knows that he’s done things far more violating and intrusive, with blood and violence on top of that, and he did them all with a smile on his face. But now he’s helping him eat, bathe, sleep, use the bathroom. This sort of thing is quiet, and it’s gentle, and it’s somehow way more of a slap to the face than if Dream had managed to get some actual, physical revenge. At least then he’d be able to call it even. This just feels like he’s twisting the knife. He shouldn’t be here. But nobody else can be around Dream at the moment, either because they’re too messed up to treat him kindly (Sam) or too guilty to visit (Sapnap). And as much as he doesn’t want to do more damage than he already has, he wants to leave Dream alone and without any care at all even less. And the shapeshifting may offer Dream an escapist fantasy, but it also acts as a way for Quackity to feel less like he’s crossing every line in the book.

It works, eventually. The shapeshifting mask allows for Dream to slowly get used to Quackity’s presence, until he’s — well, not UNAFRAID, but less on the verge of a panic attack at the thought of being in the same room as him. And talking to him as him isn’t something he can stand for long, but he asks for him again the next day, and the next, until eventually — weeks down the line — there’s something oddly comfortable there. It’s still tense, but it doesn’t feel like a threat anymore.

he really did fall back on the excuse that “dream was a bad person and therefore deserved it” so damn much. like it was so easy for him to hide his motives behind dream’s past actions, coz everyone was just so obsessed with it. and i think as well as it being easy to hide his nastiness from everyone else, it was also easy to hide it from himself (we discussed this in the time travel au, like when quackity goes through that moment of realising that he possibly enjoyed the torture way more than he had initially realised)

i love that you’ve pointed out that in this AU he would feel like he’s intruding on dream anytime he sees dream being vulnerable. like despite being the one holding half of the conversation, he still feels as though he shouldn’t be there or be hearing the things that dream is saying. i feel like he’d end up feeling guilty when people do actually start to visit. like while he’s watching dream interact with them, especially if they start saying things that contradict the things that he had said while being morphed as them

and yes we’ve touched on how on edge he’d be feeling when dream actually does start addressing him as quackity, and not as someone else. i’m excited to see the plans you have for this AU, the relationship set up between dream and quackity is super interesting. and the potential competitions that could arise when dream does actually start recieving visitors is also super interesting eeee

So, Dream and Quackity in the Servant Quackity AU have very different ideas about what their new dynamic actually is.

Quackity thinks of himself as Dream’s caretaker, pretty much. Dream needs assistance and a good chunk of the reason why is his own fault, so he’s gonna do the best he can. Dream doesn’t like him anymore and he…kind of deserves that, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not going to do a good job. This is his state-given job and Dream is his patient and his ticket to redemption, so he’s going to change. He HAS to change, it’s what he DOES. But Dream responds better when he’s someone else, so he sneaks around in disguises and plays silly games and tries to push away the feeling that he’s intruding on conversations he’s not meant to listen to. (Dream is so much more fucked up than he thought, oh my GOD.)

Dream, meanwhile, sees himself as entirely at Quackity’s mercy. Nobody’s visiting, he can’t move, everyone agreed to this arrangement, he’d better behave himself if he doesn’t want his life to revert back to that living hell. He doesn’t know what Quackity wants or why the man agreed to this or what’s going to come next. The shifts in Quackity’s appearance are scary and the dissolution of reality is horrifying, but it’s an escape from this almost-hell and he’s desperate to latch onto it. He can even forget that it’s just an act at times, that his friend and his lover and everyone else aren’t actually here with him. It’s terrifying. He can’t bear to see it go.

Quackity quickly realizes that Dream is so much more fucked up than he normally is, and he decides to help a little more than originally planned. He pokes. He prods. He makes Dream open up to all of his “friends” and responds in ways that will make him spill more, that will make him progress, that will help him heal. It’s a job. It’s a distraction from the damage that he himself has wrought. His body is now a tool, and he uses it well. (When Dream finally asks to talk to him, he almost feels naked. He’s not really sure what to do; the mask of his old job momentarily lifted. It’s an awkward, boring conversation. There’s something raw about it.)

“His body is now a tool.” 🥲 absolutely insane concept that he just loses himself to the job and naturally prepares to morph into a fellow server member at the snap of dream’s fingers 😖 the idea of dream finally trying to speak to quackity after weeks of only wanting to speak to the morphs is so precious. like with quackity just sitting there waiting for dream to go silent or ask for someone else. quackity’s on edge for the entire conversation, unable to comprehend that dream is actually trying to talk to him right now. it’s such a vulnerable and hesitant moment for both of them :,)

Quackity being somewhat dehumanized by Dream refusing to speak with him unless he’s shifted into someone else — now THAT’s something I hadn’t considered!

Frankly I can’t even say that I’d blame Dream in this situation: it makes total sense for him to be mute with terror and anger and even some level of hatred when in front of the guy who tortured him for months on end while paralyzed from the neck down. But that doesn’t mean Quackity wouldn’t be affected by it — even if he does understand why Dream is acting like this. Maybe he even figures that he…kind of had it coming.

But after a while — maybe a few weeks of Dream only seeing Quackity as other people, of settling into a routine of being cared for, and not threatened with physical violence at every turn — maybe he’d start to think about how he really wants to talk to Quackity. He’s talked with “Sam”, with “George”, with “Sapnap” — maybe it’s time to actually talk to Quackity.

It’s really awkward the first time, actually. Dream tentatively asks how he’s been doing lately, and maybe Quackity says something kind of outlandish in order to keep the facade of having other people around who aren’t him, and it’s kind of quiet and shaky instead of an actual explosion. But it’s completely overshadowed by the horrors of the Vault, which neither of them really want to acknowledge.

But you know. Quackitys the only one Dream sees, day in and day out, even if it is with different faces. Eventually Dream DOES have to acknowledge him.

Maybe Quackity comes around more and more often. Not when Dream needs someone to help him bathe, or eat, or use the bathroom — none of those seriously intimate moments when he’d really want the comfort of a friendly face, even if it is a mask — but in their downtime they might play some word games, watch tv, chat. After a few days maybe Dream even cracks a joke. Quackity laughs and riffs something back. The Vault overshadows it all, but they’re starting a small fire in their preparations to confront it.

yeeeessss coz now you get this fluffy little moment where dream starts to slowly want to speak to quackity,, or alternatively, where quackity starts to try and ween dream off of his morphing abilities

so like yeah, hanging around for longer than the help is needed, attempting light hearted conversation here and there. but of course the whole time quackity would be more than ready to morph back into someone that dream feels more comfortable with,, or to just drop all sense of self the second that dream snaps his fingers and demands it

the moment where dream actually addresses him as quackity for the first time would be so cool for q. like it’s only the slightest hint of an olive branch, barely a seed. i can imagine that ghe first conversation after the morphing started would be so tentative. like they’d both be so quiet and on edge, expecting the other to lash out or do something nasty to the other. the idea of dream managing to crack a joke eventually and the conversation becoming more smooth is also adorable :((

i didn’t speak about it before,, but the idea of characters actually beginning to visit dream and dream not being able to tell the difference between the real characters and quackity’s morph is so cool. coz i imagine that the first time he gets called out for the mistake he’d be so damn cautious afterwards

Servant Quackity AU continued:

You know the Shapeshifter Quackity headcanon? Anyway — Dream in this AU, his relationships with everyone are still all shot to shit. Like, yeah, he’s not gonna be killed by anyone at this point, but things are still rough and worst of all, nobody’s visiting. (It’s easier that way, they say.) (Sapnap in particular is feeling kinda awkward because, well, he was kind of a shitty friend. Abandoning him so easily, ignoring his cries for help, the signs of abuse, outright denying the fact that he was tortured —) So, for a long time, it’s just Dream and Quackity. And Dream is still very much scared of Quackity.

Quackity knows this. He tries to be light and friendly, to joke and to tease and to play, but — it doesn’t work. Dream’s still a bundle of hurt, and frankly Quackity was kind of hoping someone would visit by now himself, if only for his patient’s sake. But nobody’s coming.

Finally, Dream and Quackity get into a bit of a heated…discussion. Dream is lashing out. Quackity isn’t biting. Dream finally snaps that if he can get ANYONE ELSE to come here for ONCE then that would be GREAT.

Quackity pauses, and then says that while he might not be able to do that, he can do this…

And then he morphs into Sapnap.

Dream stares, shocked and confused and kind of scared. Quackity did this sometimes in prison as a form of psychological torture. (It was George who cut off his ring finger.) So, he’s a bit scared.

But then “Sapnap” starts talking, and — it’s just like if he were actually there.

Quackity knows Sapnap. At this point, he knows the current Sapnap either almost as well or even better than DREAM knows Sapnap. So he knows the mannerisms, he knows the tone of voice, he’s got the full act down pat and — and Dream is frozen. Just as Quackity’s about to turn back, kind of thinking that this was a bad idea, Dream quietly says, “It’s nice to see you again, Pandas.”

And thus it begins. Quackity turns into whoever Dream seems to miss, and emulates them to the best of his ability — which is pretty spot on! And Dream says…whatever he needs to. At first it’s hardly anything and he just asks for a hug or a light conversation about how they’re doing, but later he starts actually talking about how he feels, asking what Wilbur gained by making him out to be Evil like that, why did Sam betray him so badly? Did they always just hate him that much? And Quackity responds in the ways that Dream needs him to, and…it helps.

(Then one day Sapnap finally arrives. Dream doesn’t realize that it’s not one of Quackity’s disguises this time until he’s ranted out everything he’s been bottling up for years.)

also woahhhhhh it just adds sooo many cool layers to this set up. coz it means that quackity is only helping dream by pretending that he’s being someone else. he’s not improving his own relationship with dream, he’s only helping dream sort out his relationships with others

but that in itself would be kind of healing for quackity? he has to embody those that he has mostly been enemies with (quackity has so many poor relationships with other people), and he’d have to put his own quarrels aside to help dream out. perhaps he sorts his own feelings out about them in the process.

i feel like there would be part of him though, that would feel kinda bummed when he’s holding dream close in a forgiving hug, whilst knowing that the only reasoning that dream is hugging him back is because he looks like sapnap right now.

also all these other bits of storyline that you’ve thrown in here?? the fact that it was george (quackity but morphed) that sliced off his finger?? the outburst about dream wanting to see literally anyone except quackity? the fact that no one visits him coz they don’t want to interfere or they feel too awkward about it? ahhh it’s just all so cute :(( and all of this while dream can barely move :((

it is super cool to imagine that dream refuses to talk to quackity unless he’s morphed into someone else. like he refuses to be fed or bathed or anything unless it’s sapnap or punz or whoever doing it. like it’s almost dehumanising for quackity? it’s epic 😂

Another AU Idea: Servant Quackity AU

Basically, post-failed-nuke Tommy, Tubbo, Punz, and Jack all ban together and — thanks to the fact that basically all major players on the server have a positive connection with at least one of the above — manage to convince everyone to actually form a bit of a truce. They get everyone together and they start to actually try to settle things peacefully, lawfully, under new rules that everyone comes up with together. Some people need closure, either because of something that was done to them or something that they did to someone else. Some people need assistance, and they need community outreach, too. And so, they make plans, they talk, they settle. It’s a clean slate — or at least. It’s GOING to be a clean slate.

Among the “reparations”, however, is Dream. Who, thanks to his continuous mental and physical deterioration post-Pandora, has finally had his body collapse under him and ended with him paralyzed from the neck down.

Sam…still has work to do. He’s still convinced that he’s a Good Person and needs some serious self-reflection before he can be allowed anywhere near an incapacitated Dream. Quackity, on the other hand, has just had his confrontation with Charlie and is fresh on the realization that he has turned himself into something of a monster. He needs something to help him rehabilitate himself into a functioning member of society again. He needs a job that will allow him room to change into something else. And Dream needs serious help.

I think you can see where I’m going with this.

Quackity is sentenced to Community Service, in which he has to attend to Dream’s every need. And he’s actually pretty eager to do it! He wants to change, he wants to get better, and he just — he can’t be that person anymore, and this is a way to make sure he becomes someone new.

Dream, on the other hand, is…not so happy about this arrangement. He just bared his throat to Tommy, and was immediately betrayed by the arrival of a nuke — even if it did fail, it was one hell of a punch to the gut and now his walls are back in full force. He’s paralyzed, he’s helpless, and now he’s been put under the 24/7 care of someone who 1) tortured him for six (three) months straight and 2) who he just tried (and failed) to take revenge on. He knows Quackity hasn’t forgotten that.

Quackity can tell that Dream isn’t a fan of this arrangement. That doesn’t mean he’s not going to give it his all.

Anyway this AU is legitimately just pure fluff as Quackity slowly falls into a competition of trying to outdo himself every day in his attempts to make Dream feel as comfy as he can.

ohhhhh interesting!!!!! this one’s a cool one :O so the nuke fails, leaves everyone in shock, and pushes dream over the edge of physical deterioration? the specifics of how tubbo, tommy and punz end up banding together, and the timing for when dream’s paralysis kicks in is interesting to me 😯 however i’m going to ignore this for now because i like this servant and quackity set up 😂

it’s so nice to be able to play around with quackity actually making his own decisions to help dream,, and dream actually knowing what’s going on. like in the other AUs, we either have had quackity being forced/encouraged into helping dream by someone else,, or we’ve had dream having zero clue of the fact that quackity is trying to help (or he’s been a blob)

but much the same as the other AUs, dream is terrified of being under quackity’s care while he’s in such a vulnerable state. though interestingly i feel that quackity would be far more understanding of it this time round. he’s more careful with his words, softer with his tone, gentle with his touch. he makes it his top priority to make dream as comfortable and safe as possible. it’s kinda like pet blob au, but with 1000 more egg shells

i’m obsessed with the idea of him using the same caring tone that he used for slime on dream? especially since i assumed that he’d know of the fact that dream confessed to tommy that he just really misses his friends? perhaps he makes it his aim to have dream feel like he’s loved as a friend.

i also feel like it would be cool for dream to go non-verbal again? like rejecting quackity’s help and care. the only words he does end up spitting out are angry. they’re hissed and they’re threats. like a cat bailed up against a wall
