Car Audio Accessories You Didn’t Know You Needed: Enhancing Your Setup
When it comes to car audio, many people focus on the main components: the head unit, speakers, and amplifiers. However, there’s a world of accessories out there that can take your audio experience to the next level. Whether you're an audiophile or just someone who enjoys a good tune on the road, these car audio accessories can enhance your setup in ways you might not have considered. In this blog, we’ll explore some essential accessories that can improve your sound quality, convenience, and overall driving experience.
1. Sound Deadening Material
One of the most overlooked aspects of a car audio setup is how sound travels within the vehicle. If your car has a lot of road noise or vibrations, it can diminish your listening experience. This is where sound deadening material comes into play.
What It Does:
Sound deadening materials are designed to reduce vibrations and noise within your car. By applying these materials to the doors, trunk, and other panels, you can minimize the amount of external noise that seeps in. This helps create a quieter environment, allowing you to enjoy your music at lower volumes without distortion.
Types of Sound Deadening Material:
Foam Mats: These are lightweight and easy to install. They’re ideal for reducing noise and adding a bit of insulation.
Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV): MLV is denser and provides superior soundproofing. It's great for larger areas, like the trunk.
2. Speaker Stands and Isolation Pads
Once you've upgraded your speakers, consider how they're mounted. The way speakers are positioned can significantly affect sound quality.
Why They Matter:
Speaker stands and isolation pads help decouple your speakers from the car’s surfaces. This reduces vibrations that can cause unwanted resonance and muddiness in your sound. It ensures that the sound from the speakers is clear and true to the original recording.
Benefits:
Improved Clarity: By reducing interference from the car's surfaces, your music will sound cleaner.
Better Bass Response: Isolation pads can enhance bass response by allowing speakers to move freely.
3. Line Output Converters (LOC)
If you’re upgrading your audio system but keeping the factory head unit, a line output converter can be a lifesaver.
What It Does:
A line output converter converts speaker-level signals to line-level signals, making it easier to connect aftermarket amplifiers to your factory system. This is particularly useful if you don’t want to replace your head unit but still want to boost your sound.
Why You Need It:
Compatibility: LOCs allow you to integrate amplifiers into your system without replacing the head unit, giving you flexibility in your setup.
Better Sound Quality: By amplifying the audio signal, you can achieve clearer sound and more powerful bass.
4. Equalizers
An equalizer can dramatically enhance your listening experience by allowing you to tailor the sound to your preferences.
What It Does:
Equalizers adjust the balance of different frequency ranges. With an equalizer, you can boost the bass, cut mids, or enhance treble frequencies, depending on what you like to hear.
Types of Equalizers:
Graphic Equalizers: These have multiple sliders that let you adjust specific frequency bands.
Parametric Equalizers: These allow for more precise adjustments, letting you choose the frequency and the bandwidth you want to modify.
Why You Need It:
Personalization: Customize the sound to match your music preferences or the acoustics of your car.
Correcting Issues: If certain frequencies sound muddy or overpowering, an equalizer can help you balance them out.
5. High-Quality RCA Cables
While they might seem mundane, investing in high-quality RCA cables can make a noticeable difference in your audio quality.
Importance of Quality:
Cheap RCA cables can introduce noise and interference into your audio signal, resulting in a less-than-ideal listening experience. High-quality cables ensure that the signal remains clean and strong.
Features to Look For:
Shielding: Look for cables with good shielding to prevent electromagnetic interference.
Gold-Plated Connectors: These provide better conductivity and resist corrosion over time.
6. Bluetooth Adapters
If your car doesn’t come with built-in Bluetooth, a Bluetooth adapter can revolutionize how you listen to music.
What It Does:
A Bluetooth adapter connects to your head unit and allows you to stream music from your phone wirelessly. This is a great way to access your playlists and favorite apps without the hassle of cords.
Benefits:
Convenience: Easily switch between calls and music without fumbling with cables.
Accessibility: Stream music from various apps like Spotify, Apple Music, or Pandora without needing a physical connection.
7. Capacitors
If you're running a powerful audio system, you may want to consider adding a capacitor to your setup.
Why You Need It:
Capacitors help stabilize the power supply to your amplifier by storing energy. When the amplifier needs a quick burst of power, the capacitor discharges, providing the necessary boost.
Benefits:
Prevents Dimmed Lights: By ensuring a steady power supply, capacitors can prevent your headlights from dimming when the bass hits.
Improves Sound Quality: A more stable power supply can lead to clearer sound reproduction, especially at high volumes.
8. Dash Kits and Wiring Harnesses
When upgrading your head unit, a dash kit and wiring harness are essential for a seamless installation.
What They Do:
Dash Kits: These help fit your new head unit into the dashboard without gaps or modifications.
Wiring Harnesses: These allow you to connect your new head unit to the factory wiring without cutting any wires.
Importance:
Using the correct dash kit and wiring harness ensures a professional-looking installation and can save you a lot of hassle.
9. Battery Voltage Monitor
If you’re pushing your car audio system to its limits, a battery voltage monitor can be a helpful addition.
Why You Need It:
These monitors help you keep an eye on your battery’s voltage levels. Running a high-powered audio system can drain your battery quickly, and monitoring the voltage can help you prevent issues before they arise.
Benefits:
Prevention: Helps avoid situations where your battery is too drained to start your vehicle.
Performance: Ensures that your audio system is operating efficiently.
Conclusion
Upgrading your car audio system doesn’t stop at the main components; it’s the little things that can make a big difference. From sound deadening materials to Bluetooth adapters, the accessories discussed in this blog can enhance your setup significantly. By investing in these often-overlooked components, you’ll improve your audio quality, reduce noise, and enjoy a more personalized listening experience. If you’re ready to take your car audio system to the next level, consider checking out a reputable shop specializing in car audio equipment like VIP PRO AUDIO They can provide the essential accessories that fit your needs and help you achieve the best sound possible. Car Speakers for Bass Without a Subwoofer: Everything You Need to Know
When it comes to enhancing your car's audio system, bass plays a crucial role in delivering that deep, satisfying sound that many music enthusiasts crave. However, not everyone wants or has the space for a bulky subwoofer. The good news is, with the right car speakers, you can still enjoy rich bass without the need for a subwoofer. In this guide, we’ll explore the best car speakers for bass without a subwoofer and how to get the most out of them.
1. Understanding the Basics of Bass in Car Speakers
Before diving into specific speaker recommendations, it’s important to understand how bass is produced and what makes some speakers better than others for delivering it.
Bass Frequencies: Bass refers to the lower frequencies in the audio spectrum, typically between 20Hz to 250Hz. To reproduce these frequencies effectively, speakers need to move a lot of air, which is why subwoofers are usually larger in size.
Speaker Size and Design: While subwoofers are designed specifically for bass, certain full-range speakers or component speakers can produce decent bass if they are well-designed and of the right size. Generally, larger speakers (like 6x9 inches) can produce better bass than smaller ones due to their ability to move more air.
2. Best Car Speaker Types for Bass Without a Subwoofer
Here are the types of car speakers that can deliver strong bass performance even without a dedicated subwoofer:
a. 6x9 Inch Speakers
6x9 inch speakers are a popular choice for those seeking good bass without a subwoofer. Their larger surface area allows for better bass reproduction. Many of these speakers are designed with bass-heavy sound profiles in mind.
Recommended Models:
Pioneer TS-A6960F: Known for its deep bass and clear sound across all frequencies.
JBL GTO939: Delivers strong bass with minimal distortion at high volumes.
Kicker 43DSC69304: Offers punchy bass and great value for the price.
b. Component Speakers
Component speakers are a step up in sound quality and are designed to separate different frequency ranges across multiple drivers (tweeters for highs, woofers for lows). While they are more complex to install, they can offer superior bass performance when paired with an appropriate amplifier.
Recommended Models:
Focal PS 165 FXE: Delivers powerful bass and detailed mid-range, ideal for audiophiles.
Alpine R-S65C: Known for its precise bass response and clear sound across all ranges.
JL Audio C2-650: Provides excellent bass response and overall sound clarity.
c. Coaxial Speakers
Coaxial speakers are more common in stock car audio systems and integrate all drivers into one unit. While they don’t usually match the bass performance of component systems, some models are specifically designed for enhanced bass.
Recommended Models:
Rockford Fosgate R165X3: Offers good bass output for its size and price.
Infinity REF-6532IX: Provides clear sound and decent bass, ideal for upgrading from factory speakers.
Sony XS-GS1631C: Known for its balanced sound and respectable bass response.
3. Tips to Enhance Bass Without a Subwoofer
Even with the best speakers, there are additional steps you can take to optimize bass performance:
a. Proper Installation: Ensuring your speakers are correctly installed can make a significant difference in sound quality. Make sure the speakers are securely mounted and that there are no air leaks, as these can negatively impact bass performance.
b. Sound Deadening Materials: Adding sound deadening materials to your car doors and panels can reduce unwanted vibrations and resonance, resulting in clearer and stronger bass.
c. Amplification: While a subwoofer isn’t necessary, an external amplifier can significantly improve the bass response of your speakers by providing them with more power and cleaner signals.
d. Adjusting the Equalizer: Fine-tuning your car’s equalizer settings can help you boost the bass frequencies without introducing distortion. Focus on the lower frequency bands to enhance bass.
4. Final Thoughts
While a subwoofer is the go-to choice for bass enthusiasts, it’s entirely possible to enjoy deep, powerful bass with the right car speakers. By choosing high-quality 6x9 inch, component, or coaxial speakers, and optimizing their installation, you can achieve satisfying bass without the need for additional equipment. Remember, every car and audio setup is different, so it might take some experimentation to find the perfect balance for your needs.

Sound Deadening vs Dampening: Understanding the Difference
Are you tired of unwanted noise disturbing your peaceful driving experience? If so, you may have come across terms like "sound deadening" and "sound dampening" while researching solutions to reduce noise in your vehicle. While these terms are often used interchangeably, it's essential to understand their subtle differences to make an informed decision. In this article, we'll explore the dissimilarities between sound deadening and sound dampening, helping you choose the right solution for your needs.
Sound Deadening:
Sound deadening refers to the process of reducing or eliminating sound vibrations, particularly in a confined space like a car cabin. The objective of sound deadening is to block the transmission of sound waves by adding dense materials that absorb and isolate noise. These materials, such as mass-loaded vinyl (MLV), butyl rubber, or foam, are designed to dampen vibrations and convert sound energy into heat, effectively reducing the noise level. Sound deadening is commonly used in automotive applications to decrease road noise, engine noise, and vibrations, resulting in a quieter and more comfortable ride.
Sound Dampening:
On the other hand, sound dampening involves reducing the resonance and reverberation of sound waves. Unlike sound deadening, which aims to block sound transmission, sound dampening focuses on controlling and absorbing sound reflections within a space. Dampening materials, such as acoustic foam, sound-absorbing panels, or heavy curtains, are used to minimize echoes, improve acoustics, and create a more controlled sound environment. Sound dampening is often employed in recording studios, home theaters, or concert halls to enhance sound quality and prevent unwanted echoes.
Key Differences:
To summarize the disparities between sound deadening and sound dampening:
Objective: Sound deadening aims to block sound transmission and reduce vibrations, while sound dampening focuses on controlling sound reflections and minimizing echoes.
Materials: Sound deadening employs dense materials like MLV, butyl rubber, or foam to absorb and isolate noise, whereas sound dampening utilizes acoustic foam, sound-absorbing panels, or curtains to control sound reflections.
Applications: Sound deadening is commonly used in automotive settings to reduce road and engine noise, while sound dampening finds applications in spaces like recording studios, home theaters, or concert halls to improve sound quality and acoustics.
In conclusion, understanding the distinction between sound deadening and sound dampening is crucial when seeking solutions to reduce noise. Whether you're looking to create a quieter car cabin or improve the acoustics in a room, selecting the appropriate method will ensure optimal results. Consider your specific requirements and choose the right materials accordingly, and say goodbye to unwanted noise interference.

Well, that's a tricky question to answer! You see, one aspect of this is that how much a car with two badges reflects either brand's qualities is determined by how much work each of the brands has put in it. For instance, see the Honda Crossroad. It's '93, and Honda is late to the SUV game and needs something to sell in Japan and NZ. Now, who could they strike a deal with to get an off-roader that will live up to Honda's spotless reputation of quality engineering with perfect reliability? That is just one of the many questions they did not ask when they made a deal with automotive-Happy-Meal-wristwatch Land Rover to slap some Honda badges on their Discovery.
Just as one example of how out of line this was, it's not just that Honda had never sold a V8 before (nor would since), it's that, well, Honda was selling: - a 0.6L 3 cylinder that made 64hp - a 1.8L 4 cylinder that made 197hp - a 3.0L V6 that made 270hp And how much power was made by this 3.9L V8, to date the largest engine and only V8 Honda would ever sell? 177hp. Are you kidding me.
An example of more effort is the Saab 9-2X Aero, from a weird couple of years where GM owned both Saab and a share in Subaru and tried to pad the Saab lineup by making them rebadge both GM products and some Subarus, like the Impreza Wagon. Saab did not just shove Saab badges into Subaru oval-shaped holes: outside, all the front and rear body panels were redesigned to look Saab.
Inside, there was nicer trim hear and there, better sound deadening, more options like fancier seats and a sunroof, and the rustproofing was upgraded from "Subaru rustproofing" to "rustproofing". And the handling was tweaked to try and deliver an experience more befitting of the role further up the market Saab had carved for themselves. Many questioned whether what was done was enough to make it worthy of the Saab name (I mean, hell, the key wasn't even behind the shifter!), but you know (wait wait y'all may think I was joking, I was not joking, Saabs actually had the ignition behind the shifter), it is clear that (that's why you had to put them into reverse to take the key out, because instead of a steering lock you had a shifter lock) some effort was made to integrate the car into the brand and infuse it with its values enough to justify the badge. Saab could not claim to have fathered the car, but tried to be a good stepdad. A stepbrand, if you will.
And an example of full-blown involvement, group project, Simon & Garfunkel performance, Penn & Teller show is what Subaru made with the company GM sold their shares of it to, Toyota.
Toyota GT86 (also known as 86 in Japan and FRS under Toyota's late fellow-kids-brand Scion) and Subaru BRZ were a completely joint effort in which each manufacturer put in work both in form of engineering and of components.
And the Aygo/C1/107 is this last kind of deal.
But the other aspect of answering your question is that there are many factors that influence reputation, and reality is just one of them. Especially because reality can only influence reputation if you know it, and not even I knew, say, whether they used Toyota engines or PSA ones. Turns out both! The petrol is Toyota and the diesel PSA! But the petrol engine was developed by Daihatsu, which, wait, is a subsidiary of Toyota? I somehow either missed or completely forgot that! And also, that diesel engine was codeveloped by Ford's European division and Mazda so that should factor in as well! It's one of those frustrating situations where the more you know the less sure you are. Because of course, most people will not hear about the news of a Toyota-PSA joint venture and, while it may defy my belief, many people are genuinely not going to notice that those three are in fact the same basic car, so some people will have gone to a Toyota dealership because they heard they were reliable cars and oh look a small little car that is the kind of thing I want yeah that'll do, never even knowing Citroën and Peugeot were also selling it. Hell, some people may even have cross-shopped it with the PSA cars and figured that the Aygo must've had some more Toyota in it than the others so Aygo it would be. You know, sometimes you've gotta stop and recognize that, for how hung up we get on reputation, it is just meant to inform us of what really matters, the truth. And apparently reliability surveys rated them best in class. How great.
P.S. for those wondering what a "56 plate" is: Non-custom UK number plates specify the year of the car they are assigned to. While from 1983 to 2001 they used a letter in front, skipping some for special cases (like I and Z for Northern Ireland or Q for unknown date) or to avoid them being misread (O could've been 0 and U could've been V), from then on they used two numbers corresponding to the year, 02 for '02 and so on. Which would date @izzydeadjet's car as a 2056. Hm. Oh right, to be more specific cars made in the later half of the year add 5 to the decade, so 06 for early 2006 and 56 for late 2006, 16 for early 2016 and 66 for late 2016, so on. As you might notice, however, this system will become ambiguous in the 2050s. Normally I could accept that whether a car has x years or 50 more than that is something you could ascertain by just looking at the damn thing, but Morgan and Caterham show that if there's a country where that may not be obvious it's Britain.
See, this is why y'all follow me. Where else are you going to see a lapse in foresight from the UK?
so, I found out about the fact that apparently the fiat panda, has been getting 4x4 variants today.
and I thought them to be too interesting not to share them with the world. Which was the moment I realized that you may be the best way of doing that, as you probably also have some cool, and weird facts/opinions about this weirdly amazing, and surprisingly cool looking car.
Indeed I do, and I wrote them up in this post! And if you feel bad about not having seen that post and/or thought to search for Fiat Panda on my blog (we are assuming that the search function would work, though, which as I found is not at all a guarantee even when you explicitly search for a tag I have used verbatim), worry not - as not only are you going to get more Panda words out of me than you could possibly have asked for, but you gave me the chance to post about an incredible detail about the original Panda I had forgotten to mention there!
See, there are cars where the front and rear windows roll down electrically (not electronically, by the way, those are two different things) as standard. There are cars (yes, even today) in which the front windows roll down electrically as standard, but the rear windows that roll down electrically are an optional extra. And then there was the Mk1 Panda, in which... all the windows were manual only, you might guess I'm going to say. But no: surprisingly, they were offered with optional electric front windows. The rear windows though?
You got a hinge that opened up this much. Now, I should note this is not that unique, such windows have been used by cars as upmarket as the Accord Aerodeck and as modern as the first generation Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 107/Citroën C1 (they were the same basic car), and even some minivans for the third row seats - it's what you do when space or other constraints make rolling the window into the body impossible; and having been in the back of an Aygo I can also attest that they are reasonably effective. So no, the Mk1 Panda is not the only car that had such a rear window. However it is the only car I know of in which it wasn't standard. That's right, the Fiat Panda was so goddamn basic that a manual rear window that didn't roll down was an option. Absolutely amazing. I love this car.
Links in blue are posts of mine about the topic in question - if you liked this post, you might like those!

1963 Pontiac Catalina Swiss Cheese (part 1 of 2)
The Most Famous of Only 14 Cars Ever Built As the 1962 drag season drew to a close, it was obvious that Pontiac’s position at the top of the Super Stock hierarchy was weakening. Ford, Chrysler and Chevrolet were gaining on the Chiefs with bigger engines and an ever-increasing supply of special parts, including weight-saving aluminum components and body panels. Pontiac engineers knew they had to have a lighter, more powerful car for 1963, and it came in the form of a special Catalina bearing some serious modifications. First the chassis was altered by cutting the inside section away from the boxed rails, leaving a U-shaped section. Then approximately 120 holes were drilled in the sides of the frame rails, removing as much material as possible while maintaining a semblance of structural integrity, resulting in the “Swiss Cheese” moniker that remains today. Further mods involved deleting the front sway bar and substituting an aluminum bellhousing and third member for the original pieces. It did not stop there: insulation and sound deadener was dropped, aluminum body panels were used wherever possible, including the hood, inner and outer front fenders, splash pan, radiator bulkhead, bumpers and brackets. Plexiglas windows were also available to further reduce the car’s heft. Even the cast iron exhaust manifolds were replaced with special high-flow aluminum units with integral cutouts. These proved suitable only for short periods of use given their tendency to melt under prolonged operation. The 421 engine used in the Swiss Cheese Catalina was treated to 13.0:1 Mickey Thompson pistons, a #10 McKellar camshaft, lightweight valves in reworked heads, heavy duty rotating assembly and a lightweight flywheel. Carburetion was by twin Carter AFBs atop a special aluminum manifold. Rated at 410 horsepower, the engine brought the car’s total weight to 3,308 pounds and propelled it to 12-second times at 120mph. The cars were originally equipped with Borg Warner 3-speeds with aluminum tail sections and aluminum-case 4.30:1 Positraction differentials; most were converted to close-ratio BW 4-speeds and either 4.56 or 4.88 rear gears. The 1963 “Swiss Cheese” Catalina offered here is perhaps the most famous of the 14 built before GM’s racing ban. Sponsored by Packer Pontiac of Detroit, it was driven in 1963 by Packer employee Howard Maselles, who set the NHRA C/Stock class record with a 12.27 ET at 114.64 MPH, a record that stood for several years. The car was discovered in the late 70s by famed Pontiac collector and historian Randy Williams, and was the first of several historically significant Super Duty Pontiacs that formed his famous collection. After years of collecting a vast treasure trove of Pontiac NOS parts and pieces, Williams and his good friend Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialties in Portland, MI, began restoring the car, completing the project in 2000. Today the Packer Pontiac “Swiss Cheese” Catalina is regarded as the reference point for this rare group of Pontiac lightweight factory racers, a monument to Randy Williams’ dedication to preserving Pontiac history and to Scott Tiemann’s world class craftsmanship and expertise. It is extensively documented by the records and photographs compiled by Howard Maselles, including the original “For Sale” flyer created by Maselles to sell the car at the end of the 1963 season.

Your car came with a stereo, right? Maybe it’s fine and it does a decent job, and maybe you’re ok with it. But ask yourself this: Don’t you deserve better than fine and decent?
As a San Diego County resident, you spend hours in your car every week.Back and forth to work, to the grocery store, out to dinner, and now that the holidays are here, to the mall, to the airport, and to holiday parties. In fact, doesn’t it sometimes seem like, aside from the hours you sleep, you actually spend more time in your car than you do at home? So then why not make the experience as pleasurable as it can be?
This holiday season, give yourself the gift that keeps on giving: a high-quality car audio system. And just in case you need more convincing, here are five benefits to upgrading beyond your “fine” and “decent” car stereo:
Better Sound From Your Car Audio With A Premium Sound System
Car Stereo Installation Service near Albuquerque NM:Let’s face it. Your car manufacturer doesn’t care as much about your aural satisfaction as you do. Sure, factory systems have gotten better, but many of those premium systems still use relatively weak speakers and amps that deliver less-than-satisfactory sound. Even if all you do is upgrade your car’s system with high-quality aftermarket speakers, you’ll experience tighter bass and more overall clarity in your tunes.
Better Control Of Your Car Sound System And Speakers
When built to your specifications, a high-quality stereo system has the potential to give you optimal control over the way your music sounds. Most car receivers provide treble, mid-range, and bass control, which is fine for overall sound. But when you build your system with an equalizer, you have multiple points for adjusting your frequency response and ironing out problem peaks. In other words, a high-quality stereo system gives you the ability to fine-tune your tunes.
Better Car Commute In San Diego With A Premium Car Stereo
Remember back when those little tiny Walkman speakers made it possible to pipe the music from your Walkman into your bedroom or dorm room? Sure, you could hear the general idea of the song, but it was nothing like having your headphones on and the music all around you. Well, the difference between your car’s factory system and a high-quality aftermarket stereo is kinda like that. A great system plus Dynamat or any other sound-deadening material to lower interior noise levels will greatly enhance your listening pleasure. When you’re lost in your music, you might even cease to care that you’re in standstill traffic on northbound 805.
Better Communication On Your IPhone Or Android From Your Car
If you spend a lot of time in your car, there’s a good chance you also spend a lot of time on speakerphone. We hate to break it to you, but if you don’t have a decent Bluetooth-equipped system, you are probably annoying everyone on the other end of the phone. Think about it. When you call someone, and you can tell they’re driving because 1) there’s a ton of extra noise in the background, and 2) they sound like they’re shouting over the noise, don’t you hang up sooner than you might otherwise? Want better communication with your wife/husband/mom/kids/boss? Upgrade to a high-quality, Bluetooth-equipped stereo system. Everyone on the other end will thank you for it. If you get one with a simple interface, it’ll also make for safer driving.
Better Reputation With Great Sounding Car Audio In Albuquerque NM
Let’s be honest here. When it comes to our cars, we can be a little…vain. We spend money to make them look good and sometimes even to inspire envy as we race up the 163 or pull up to the valet stand at a downtown restaurant. But a good-looking car with a crappy stereo system is as disappointing as a good-looking man/woman with bad teeth. Your beautiful car deserves a beautiful sound system. Whether or not you care about sound quality when you listen to NPR during your morning commute, you’ll certainly appreciate the way a high-quality stereo system inspires envy in your brother-in-law.

How to install a car stereo
Car Stereo Installation Service near Albuquerque NM:Remove your factory stereo and install a new one Car stereo installation basics In this article, we'll walk you through the process of installing a new car stereo. We'll cover:
● How to remove the factory stereo
● How to wire the new receiver what you need to know to connect it right
● How to install the new car stereo
Please read over these guidelines before beginning the installation so you'll know what to expect.
Installing a new car stereo can often be simple enough to do yourself, and his article will provide you with a general guide on how to do it. Keep in mind that some cars and systems are more complicated than others and that every car and stereo system will be different, so some specifics may vary. Be sure to read any instructions that come with the new car stereo before attempting to install it.
How to Take Out the Old Stereo
Car Stereo Installation Service near Albuquerque NM:
Set the parking brake and disconnect the negative cable from your car battery. Be sure to do this to avoid short-circuiting the electrical system during the installation, which could lead to fire or physical harm for you.
Unscrew any screws that are securing the trim in place. Be careful to remove all screws before trying to pry off the trim or you may break it.
Remove the trim. For some cars, you may need to remove several pieces of plastic trim, usually working from the bottom up.[3]
● If you need to remove trim that includes any knobs or drawers, remove them before trying to pry off the trim.
● Use your hands or a pry tool to pry off each piece of trim. Pry tools are specifically for this purpose and will not damage the trim pieces.
Pull out any necessary components. If you need to remove any components before being able to access the stereo, do so.
Disconnect components that are wired to the car. Take a picture of how each is wired for later reference.
Loosen the stereo. Different cars may have varying elements securing the stereo in place.
● If the stereo is held in place by screws or nuts, loosen them with the appropriate tool (screwdriver or nut driver, respectively).
● If the stereo isn't held in place by screws or nuts, you'll need to use a radio-removal key. This tool is commonly necessary in Ford vehicles. Radio-removal keys (sometimes also referred to as radio-removal tools) will typically either be in an elongated horseshoe shape or will have a circular shape at one end and a notched shaft at the other. They’re available at most auto-parts stores.
● Insert the keys into the two small slots in the face of the stereo. You will release a mechanism holding the stereo in place. Slide the radio-removal keys into each slot again until you feel the stereo loosen from in its housing. You should then be able to pull out the stereo relatively easily.
Pull the stereo out of the panel. You may want to use needle-nose pliers to grip the edge of the stereo and help you pull it out.[4] Pull it gently, and if the stereo doesn't come out easily, double check that you haven't missed any components that may be holding it in place.
Take a picture of how the stereo is wired. This is an important step because the photo will serve as a reference later when you’re wiring in the new stereo.
Unplug the stereo connections. You’ll see a series of wires connected to the back of the stereo, and you’ll need to disconnect each of them.
● First unplug the antenna wire, which will typically be a thicker wire plugged in separately from the rest. Once it’s unplugged, you should be able to move the stereo around more freely.
● Next unplug each of the wire harness connectors. There will typically be several of these and you can recognize them because a series of wires will feed into each one. The plastic piece into which the wires are fed should have either a tab or a button you can push, which will release the harness.
How to Install the New Stereo
Match up the wires. Match the wires of the car’s harnesses to the new stereo’s harnesses. Each harness connector is unique, so it should be easy to figure out which ones fit together.
● To be safe, check the wiring diagrams for both your car and the new stereo to verify you’ve connected them correctly.
● If your car's stereo doesn’t use wire harnesses, you’ll need to match up each wire manually. The wires are color-coded; however, the wires on an after-market stereo may not match with the color-coded wires in your vehicle. It's best to study and follow the wiring diagram that came with the stereo.
● Connect the matched wires. There are two options for connecting the wires, crimping or soldering. Crimping is faster and easier, but soldering will provide a more stable and secure connection. Be sure to use the proper size crimper and don’t try to bundle the wires with tape it will eventually dry out and fall off. Bundle wires using zip ties instead.
Assemble the mounting kit. If your new stereo came with a separate mounting kit, assemble it according to the stereo's instructions (it will often mean fitting a metal housing sleeve into the mounting frame).
Push down on the tabs located around the metal sleeve with a screwdriver to secure the metal sleeve in place.
Connect the power source. Typically, if you have a wiring harness, this connection will be made when you connect the new stereo harnesses to the harnesses in the car.
If you aren't using a wiring harness, you’ll need to manually connect the power. Determine whether your car has a switched power source (typically a red wire) or a constant power source (typically a yellow wire). Some vehicles even have both types of power sources. For more information on switched versus constant power, go here.
Ground the stereo. If you're using wiring harnesses, this connection will be made when you connect the harness pieces.
If you aren't using a wiring harness, you'll need to locate the bolt, wire, or screw that connects with the car's bare metal chassis. Loosen the bolt, wire, or screw and slip the stereo's ground wire (usually black) underneath, then tighten.
Note that the ground connection is important to the optimal performance of the stereo. If the ground wire doesn't connect to the bare metal, it won't work. And if the ground wire connection is loose, it could result in poor audio output. Sand down the area with sand paper to ensure a good connection.
Connect the remaining wires. Plug in the antenna cable and connect the stereo's wiring adapter to the car's wire harness. Connect the output converter if one is needed to make the new stereo compatible with the car's audio system. Have in mind that all wires should be connected in the end and there should be no single one hanging unattended.
Test the stereo. Turn the power on and test the AM, FM, and CD components. Test the fade and balance settings to be sure the speakers are working properly. Turn the power back off.
How to Finish the Installation
● Push the stereo into place. When the stereo is fully in, you should hear it click into place.
● Reconnect the components. Fasten in any screws that are needed to hold the stereo in place, reconnect any wired components, and replace any knobs or drawers that were removed.
● Snap all the pieces of trim back into place over the stereo. Double check that all screws and trim pieces are securely in place.
● Try out the new stereo. Turn the car power on again and play around with the stereo and its settings to be sure everything is in working order.
TIPS
Car Stereo Installation Service near Albuquerque NM:A car can be a great place to enjoy music, but many commuters still put up with marginal sound quality that they'd never tolerate at home. Others assemble sophisticated sound systems for their cars, then make common installation mistakes that keep the system from reaching its full potential.
The best car sound systems rely on decent gear and a little know-how. I've put together some suggestions on how to improve the sound in your vehicle, with tips for both simple factory systems and more sophisticated setups. You don't have to live with bad sound in your car. Even the simplest improvements to your car sound system installation can yield noticeable results.
● Replace your car's speakers
● Select higher quality for your music files
● Bypass your music player's built-in digital-to-analog converter
● Use sound deadening material
● Add a car amplifier
● Add a signal processor or an equalizer
● Build a better sub box. Or buy one.
● Your crossover can really improve the sound of your system
● Set your amp gains properly
● Don't max out your tone controls
● Add a subwoofer and hear what you've been missing
● Use a capacitor if you're going to push your subs hard

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If I install a new stereo, can I still use my steering wheel controls?
You sure can if you install a special adapter. And when you buy any stereo from us, you'll get a deep discount on the steering wheel control adapter for your car. See our article about Steering Wheel Audio Control Adapters for more information.
Why should I get a new car stereo?
Sound and features are the two best reasons for getting a new car stereo. Aftermarket car stereos typically have more powerful amplifiers and better sound-shaping controls than factory stereos. And you'll find plenty of cool features, like Bluetooth® and smartphone compatibility, USB and aux inputs, touchscreen controls, navigation, satellite radio compatibility, and much more, depending on the type and model of car stereo you buy.
How do I know what'll fit my car?
Don't worry, we've done the heavy lifting! Our vehicle research team has checked out thousands of cars and trucks to find out what will (and won't) work in specific vehicles.
Can I keep my steering wheel controls?
You sure can but in most cases you'll need to install a special adapter. And when you buy any stereo from us, you'll get a deep discount on the steering wheel control adapter for your car. See our article about Steering Wheel Audio Control Adapters for more information.
Will a new stereo work with my existing factory options?
Your car may have come with factory-installed options, like satellite radio, navigation, or Bluetooth. In most cases, these are built into the existing factory stereo, or use proprietary protocols which aren't compatible with new aftermarket car stereos, so these features won't work with a new stereo. This can be a complicated issue though, so call or chat with us and we can check out your specific vehicle and features.
Can I get a stereo that will match my dash illumination?
We love it when a new car stereo really looks like it belongs in your dash, and matching the existing dash illumination scheme is a big part of that. To really hone in the color match, look for models that let you adjust the color for different parts of the receiver for example, white for the display and red for the buttons. You'll also find models that let you adjust specific RGB color levels for a perfect match. Search for stereos that feature variable colors to see your options.
Will a new car stereo work with my smartphone?
One of the most exciting things about new car stereos is the way that they integrate with your smartphone. Almost all models offer USB connection to your phone, letting you access your music files or other stored media from both iOS and Android devices. And if your new stereo has Bluetooth, you'll be able to access your music or streaming services that way too.
Will I have better bass with a new car stereo?
Great bass depends on a lot of factors, including what you define as great bass. Generally though, the increased power of a new car stereo will improve the punch of the low end in your system.
Is it hard to install a new car stereo?
Helping you install your own gear is our specialty. Since 1974, Mobile Mechanics of Albuquerque has helped hundreds of thousands of first-time installers put a new stereo in their dash, and get the job done right. [ HOW DO YOU APPEAR IN MY MUSE’S DREAMS. / @sevenbulletsavior. ]
[ ✮ ] —— THE CITY APPEARS TO BE PAINTED. the atmosphere comfortable and normal. the typical sound of new york surrounding both himself and karen as they walk down the narrow sidewalk side by side. but no cars were upon the road. nor did anyone pass by them in the morning rush. it was just them. she is clear against the strange and smudged cityscape. a faint smile is upon her lips, her head dipping towards the ground as she quietly laughs. a lock of hair is shifted behind her ear. time felt slow but gracious. the back of their hands briefly brush against one another. a soft fleeting moment that he watches. fingertips are tempted to reach out and take her hand in his, but he abstains from it. her presence alone is appreciated. taking note of all the small things he admired about her as she gazed up at the sky. he can’t help but smile as she speaks. an jumbled conversation that he understood within his heart but not logically. it was then something hits his shoulder. he bumps into a figure that seems to have appeared out of thin air. his attention is moved harshly from karen to the other as he walks by the stranger. something wasn’t right. the others features are just as clear as karen’s. he knew the man right away, and the time around them suddenly felt like an ocean. trying to trudge through it at a regular pace, but the weight of it all makes his limbs feel heavy. his eyes flicker from the man’s face to a rectangle of red held within the other’s arm. that was when time seemed to stop completely. a weathered red book with a black star imprinted within the middle. the star felt like an endless void. no reflection of light or texture was visible. as he stares within the space, he can feel himself sinking. as if the concrete below was dragging him downwards like quicksand. but he catches himself as an identifiable shout moves past his ear. his head whips to the right and suddenly the city is gone. the room is blank. but the floor is stone. a nonexistent spotlight shines a light in the middle of the endless room. a sheet of paper is illuminated within the middle of the circle of yellow rays. it beckons him forward. he approaches hesitantly, metallic fingers reaching outwards towards the piece of parchment. brows furrow as his eyes scan across the title : LIES FROM THE TABLECLOTH. a splatter of crimson he didn’t note before is near the bottom left corner of the page. and soon he realizes the color is splayed across aluminum digits. but he then blinks. and the paper is replaced with the weathered red book. his chains. for inside is the words that bind him and shred him from himself. leaving but a shell. he blinks again. the binding of a book being replaced with skin. the fear within karen’s eyes are burned within his mind. metallic fingers tighten and strain across the column of her neck. hands gripping and scratching against aluminum panels. his mind screams to stop. but he can’t. his mind is too far away from his body to have control. he can see her gasp for breath, but no sound is made. with deadened ice hues, he simply watches as life drains from her face and gaze. those bright hues of hers dimming and dulling as her panicked hands still. the longer he stares, the simmering feeling of fear begins to bubble and rise within his chest. it continues to rise and rise until it violently jolts him awake. wide eyes flickering across the ceiling of his bedroom. moonlight softly filters in from the blinded window. stretching across the sheets in thin lines. a long sigh is exhaled. the imagery of the dream still fresh in his mind as he places a palm across the line of his eyes. he had been stable for a few years now, but somehow that lingering doubt and fear of the possibility of someone using his programming against him seems to haunt him. recovery was guaranteed, but the guarantee of the set virus within his mind being terminated was not.

Honda is expanding its Civic Type R range with the addition of two new variants: Limited Edition and Sport Line. Building on the dynamic performance capabilities of the standard Type R GT, the new models each offer a different style and performance proposition, further broadening the appeal of Honda's award-winning hatchback.
With the Civic Type R Limited Edition, Honda is unleashing the most extreme version of its renowned high-performance car. Built as the purest expression of Type R to date, the Limited Edition features new lightweight components, a stripped-back interior, enhanced driving dynamics and stand-out styling. Developed with track performance as its core focus, the new Civic Type R Limited Edition has been designed and engineered to be the most dynamic front wheel drive hatchback available. With a stripped-back, driver-focused interior, this is the most extreme version of the iconic Civic Type R ever made. Just 100 will be built for Europe, featuring lightweight flow-formed 20“ forged BBS alloy wheels with Michelin Cup 2 tyres, which are designed for high-speed track driving but still deliver exceptional on-road performance. Modified dampers optimise this new wheel and tyre combination and recalibration of the EPAS offers maximum control and feedback.
To reflect its extrovert nature, an exclusive new colour, ‘Sunlight Yellow’, is introduced for the Civic Type R Limited Edition, along with a dark chrome Civic badge on the back. With the addition of contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, wing mirrors and intake vent on the bonnet, the bold colour scheme reflects Honda’s sporting heritage and ensures the Limited Edition stands out as a unique proposition in the performance hatchback segment.
The Civic Type R Limited Edition’s interior echoes Honda’s sporting bloodline: featuring the iconic red bucket seats and red Alcantara steering wheel complemented by the teardrop gear knob. Each model features a plaque marking the build number of the car.
Continuing its track-focused nature, the infotainment and air conditioning systems are omitted to save weight. Additional weight is saved by reducing sound-deadening materials in the roof, rear hatch panel, front bumper and dashboard. The Limited Edition Type-R is 47kg lighter than a Type R in GT specification. Unlike other brands’ track-focused performance hatchbacks, the Limited Edition retains its rear seats and the everyday usability for which the Civic is renowned.
The new Limited Edition model retains the Type R’s powerful 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine. Peak power output is 320PS at 6,500rpm and peak torque is 400Nm from 2,500rpm to 4,500rpm. 0-62mph is achieved in 5.7 seconds. The second new addition to the Type R range is the understated Civic Type R Sport Line, which retains the sporting pedigree and outstanding driving dynamics of the Civic Type R, but with more discreet styling and a more refined ride. Designed to appeal to a customer who seeks a subtler look from their performance hatchback, Sport Line features a low height rear spoiler, 19-inch alloys and an all-black interior, yet retains the outstanding performance that is a trademark of Type R models.
The Type R Sport Line’s most notable departure from the distinctive styling of the regular Civic Type R is a low-deck rear spoiler instead of the high-level wing, giving a subtler silhouette to the car. The Civic Type R Sport Line is also distinguished by a grey accent line which runs along the lower edge of the car.
The Civic Type R Sport Line delivers a more compliant and refined driving experience than its more extreme siblings. New exclusive dark grey 19-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sports 4S tyres with a softer sidewall that enhance on-road comfort, with noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) further improved by additional soundproofing materials in the boot and tailgate. The interior of the new Civic Type R Sport Line retains a performance-focused appeal with a more subtle ambience. Black bucket seats with red stitching are complemented by the new tear drop style gear knob and Alcantara steering wheel. The red stitching is continued throughout the interior, including door panels to reflect Honda’s sporting heritage.
As with the standard Civic Type R, the new Type R Sport Line is equipped with a range of comfort and safety features. The new variant also retains the seven-inch infotainment system, which incorporates DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Adding to the range of colour options, the 2020 Civic Type R GT and Type R Sport Line will be available in a bold new paint finish, Racing Blue.
