Listen I’m sorry that I veer wildly between seeming excited and negative. It’s not important in the context of the horrors of rest of the world. It’s not important compared to other things in my life. It’s not even important to other fans and wider fandom.

Dragon Age has just for better or worse (worse, it’s worse) been my hyperfocus since I was 22 years old and what it’s seemingly going through is not an isolated thing but a shift in all media which is making me feel isolated and hopeless as a consumer but also as a creator.

I’m not an Origins was perfect person. But I’m also not really here for people swinging in the other direction and saying that we shouldn’t want to keep anything from the birth of the series. The move of everything into needing to be this quippy, light, surface level bundle of tropes is killing me.

Of course Origins wasn’t all doom and gloom, and I think that’s one of the things it does so well (as does 2!) There is darkness abounding but it tells a story of people coming together, both at a human level of a group of people trying their best to save the world but also allies coming to your aid to defend their flawed society and try, in some small way, to make it better. It’s not a “gotcha” to go hey you think origins is so serious what about Alistair and all his silly lines. That’s the point of what makes it good! Alistair is facing grief and horror and decides to stay who he is, unless you actively harden him against it!

But that kind of storytelling is only earned if you’re not afraid to have the darkness. If you’re not worried about spoonfeeding every bit of information to your audience. You have to trust us and I’m. Not convinced any creators do anymore. And it’s not just happening in gaming. It’s happening across media, publishing, even creating music where artists have no real need to create a song longer than a minute or so for use in a tiktok short.

Anyway. Days away, and I’m just hoping I like it. That’s my hope. I hope I like it enough that I find my hook, even if that hook is just turn brain off at the door and enjoy some little bits of character. Because the greatest heartbreak for me would be indifference.

However all of these projects are quickly dropped in favor of a new idea coming. A chaotic brain that drags its poor protagonist through every one

The Protagonist, the one thing that’s kind of consistent throughout these tales. There’s not much to say about him, he’s supposed to be a blank slate to project ideas onto. One minute he’s a cold hearted detective, the next he’s a criminal on the run, and then not even a moment later he’s a cowboy in the Wild West. He is.. quite tired of this life to say the least. What he would do for some consistency in his life

I get being annoyed by stuff like that, but it is important to keep in mind that everyone has different experiences with their disabilities and mental state in general. While stuff may stand out as 'eugh, faker' to you, keep in mind that you don't actually have enough knowledge about the life that that person leads to actually know if they're feigning something like autism. Especially not if the only interaction you've had with them is online.
