KAJ as dog breeds. (Inspired by @biokenneth and his bird list)
Jakob: Beagle
Just a happy breed, wildly affectionate and energetic. Enthusiastic but often a little aloof following instructions, perfect for a man who keeps getting lost.
Kevin: Vizsla
Strong and loving, the Vizsla is a versatile dog of high-energy. Speedy and courageous they make great companions and are often smarter than they let on. Reserved when they need to be and caring, the breeds perfect for Kevin.
Axel: Schnauzer
An agile little dog used for many things in the past, stubborn, strong-willed, extremely smart, little grumpy, friendly and playful. The only dog I think can fulfil the requirements of Axel's energetic dancing and his smarts.
Vorjeans
Maanin: Croatian Sheepdog
Look, the actual Maanin Vorjeans came down and told me this was right so don't judge me breaking my own self-imposed pedigree breed standard. With a strong herding drive and an intelligent but cheeky attitude the Croatian Sheepdog fits Maanin's cool and confident personality while also adding another layer of cool with it's lovely black coat. Being courageous and unlikely to back-down under pressure this dog is the toughest in Vora.
Tommy: German Shepherd
What can I say, German Shepherd display confident and protective behaviour that con sometimes contrast to their friendly and soft attitude towards those they love. Known to be intimidating and aggressive, the German Shepherd fits Tommy as he wants to show off a big intimidating attitude but is quite a softie. A bit unaware at time but always enthusiastic.
Freppa: Smooth Haired Dachshund
A hound dog used originally for tracking wounded game and going underground for badgers and rabbits. Dachshunds are known to be energetic and fun, enthusiastic and real softies if you can stop them trying to break their own backs. Freppa is just a sweetie that does too much for everyone while being pretty low-maintenance himself.
Gambamark
Kurt: Airedale Terrier
Known as the 'King of the Terriers' the Airedale has an excellent sense of smell, perfect for smelling when the berry-picking should take place. They also are very smart, use to work as messenger dogs and are fiercely independent. If an Airedale wanted to build a separate town from the rest of the world, it could. They are sometimes known as overly cautious and protective as well, makes sense.
Josua: Kooikerhondje
Known as the 'duck decoy' dog, the Kooikerhondje historically worked with hunters to lure ducks along streams, never actually being involved in any direct hunting themselves. This fits Josua as due to his upbringing he'd likely not be a gundog or working dog but fits into the Utility catagory, like the Kooikerhondje. They have a fun-loving personality along with being sensitive and intelligent. Harsh training methods will only make them become dominant and aggressive, exactly what we see with Josua.
Maskis-Gunnar: Otterhound
With a waterproof coat that leaves this breed sometimes a bit odorous, the otterhound is known for their energetic personality and friendly attitude. They are smart enough to recall commands but also smart enough to take it upon themselves to ignore those commands if they see something they find more interesting. A little bit of a rebel and a total village original.
Berit: Australian Shepard
A very smart herding dog, perfect for controlling and organising. Independent and able to make their own decisions, stubborn and often with a habit of trying to establish their own hierarchy within groups.
Gita: Deerhound
Sweeties. Just so sweet and so is Gita.
Magita: Wolfhound
Big softies, every single one of them. Unaware of their size, aloof and absolute sweethearts. Giant gentle and casually protective of their loved ones. They won't go charging into danger but they will slowly walk around so the danger certainly things twice before coming their way. (Also, only a slight idiot.)
Kenneth: Collie
Patient, social and a good watchdogs, never showing aggressive behaviour. Loyal as well. That loyalty explains why Kenneth might have tried so hard to stick to Kurt's laws.
Klas: Finnish Laphund
(A medium sized dog!? What am I thinking?- Stick with me) The Finnish Laphund was known to guard and herd reindeer (not quite moose but close). Along with this the Finnish Laphund is known to be affectionate and sweet as well as intelligent with a genuine want to do things, making them easy picks for guard dogs, however they are extremely food-oriented and often quite terrible guard dogs, easily distracted with a low boredom threshold.
Botnia Paradise
Benjamin: Border Collie
Would have made a great farmdog but instead he followed his dreams. The Border Collie can be quite energetic and free-spirited along with having a distinctive and powerful voice. They get restless though and often love chasing something. What better breed for the musician always chasing a dream.
Julia: Poodle
Poodle are the best swimmers in the dog world, non-shedding and intelligent to boot. Wilful, smart and not afraid of water.
Sinikka: Russian Black Terrier
Hardy, strong and determined to do their job whether that be as a watchdog, rounding up people or general intimidation, the Russian Black Terrier suits Sinikka as being a powerhouse and the workhorse of Botnia Paradise.
Linda Q: Pomeranian
A good-looking dog with a very very powerful voice, what else would this diva be.
Captain Koskiniemi: Basset Hound
Not a good water-dog, does not want to be on a boat but reliable when you need it. It's own dog and strong.
Bertel: Papillon
Being of the Toy group the Papillon has one purpose: Look pretty. Hyper intelligent and able to learn tricks easily, it fits that Bertel would be the type of dog that is characterised by enjoying it's own voice and takes pride in it's appearance.
Dan-Ole: English Setter
The English setter also doesn't mind water, perfect for someone on a sinking cruise ship and lucky for Bertel when he's stuck in the brig.
Ava- Lisa: Irish Setter
Another gundog used for finding birds. (yes, Both the bird-lovers are bird-hunting dogs. It makes sense. They find the birds.) However this time with a beautiful rusty red coat. Social by nature and intelligent (a lot of these dogs are intelligent.) the Irish Setter suits our bird-loving Ava-Lisa.
Timo 'Tuplajuusto' Holopainen: Cane Corso (Or Mastiff as the Cane Corso is not recognised by the Kennel Club)
The Cane Corso is an Italian breed of Mastiff noted for it's strength and hardiness. Like Tuplajusso a mastiff is strong and often defined by their aggressive spirit. They were used as guard dogs or for herding, historically also used in dog-fights until the practice was outlawed. There's a reason for why the the outlawing took a hit on their breed though as they were the champions of dog fighting for obvious reasons. What breed is better for our double-cheeseburger.

Sinikka:
Kossu:
Gambamark again
Mäskis-Gunnar:
Margita and Gita:
Ok so I decided to write a "bird association" list for KAJ universe characters... I may have gotten slightly carried away
KAJ irl:
- Kevin: Cattle Egret. Calm, distinctive, and elegant
- Axel: Puffin. Iconic, stylish, and a skilled hunter
- Jakob: Kestrel. Cute, skilled, distinctive but unassuming (e.g. people who don't know him wouldn't think much of him if they saw him in the street, but people who know him know how cool he is)
Vörgays:
- Freppa: Rock dove. Bullied frequently, friendly, scrounger (if we believe Määnin and Tommy about him not being musically talented).
- Määnin: Mute swan. People are drawn to them, they're strong, and more intimidating that they first look
- Tommy: Black Swan. Homosexual, aggressive, sounds really cool.
Gambämark:
- Kurt: Robin. Deceptively cute, extremely territorial to the point of unecessary violence, likes blueberries
- Josua: Pied wagtail. Cute little guy, sociable, often victims of cuckoos (talkokraft reference)
- Berit: Gannet. Females are better hunters, intelligent, strong
- Kenneth: common kingfisher. Good hunter, patient but skittish, gives food as courtship
- Klas: Kookaburra (kind of kingfisher). Hunt in forests, like grilled food, good at communicating
Gunnar: Magpie. Some people are convinced they're evil, they love collecting shiny things, and they're more intelligent than people think at first glance
- Gita and Margita: Ringed Plovers. Protective of their young, strategy hunters, their young are adventurous (Josua!!)
Botnia:
- Benjamin and Julia are both Whooper swans (self explanatory. Both played svante, both are iconic and well-loved)
- Dan-Ole and Eva-Lisa are black grouse of course
- Bertel: Hoopoe. Swaggy, monogamous but only for a season, gets in very violent fights
- Tupla: White-tailed eagle. Absolutely huge, intimidating, incredibly strong
- Linda Q: Starling. Beautiful, incredible vocals, underappreciated
- Sinikka: Great Cormorant. Distinctive, strong, and nest in the same area for years and years
- Kossu: Kittiwake. Looks a bit pathetic on the surface, adorable, incredible seafarer

btw if you’re fat and your partner doesn’t love you wholeheartedly, if they’re attracted to you “despite” your body, if they avoid touching you, if they look away from certain parts of you, you’re allowed to break up with that person. look at me. you can do better. you are not unloveable and you don’t have to settle i fucking promise.
