Nim Sketch Dump

as promised, here's a big sketch dump of my sona/oc nim! this isn't gonna be a popular post and I don't care 👍

I didn't originally intend to post these so I've referenced some art works heavily but I've written the name of the artist and I'll type it out too! if any of the artists see my references and is uncomfortable with it please let me know and I'll remove it from this post :D

the first ideas for his "modern design" (he's been around and recycled for a loooong time). the pose in the top right hand corner is taken from @/hiraethminds! they are a very cool artist and inspire me a lot. though the grey-ish tones as the major colour goes away I still really like the centipede tattoo, centipedes are rad as fuck and you can't tell me otherwise

I started to play with the idea of a goat design for him here! which is strange because like. that's not even his main design or motif or anything, I just really liked the idea I guess LMAO also Aurelai belongs to my mate of the same name! she's not on tumblr (yet) but you should still like her because she's cool and awesome

a treat for my qsmp enjoyers!! an unfinished short comic I sketched on the day tallulah lost her first life. the other characters in this are my old ocs, don't even worry about them

I straight up just have the image that inspired me in this one. its by @/sss-eriema and it was a gift from GOD. I was trying to sort out the colours and wanted to incorporate both orange (my favourite colour) and green (my close second favourite colour) but wasn't having much luck. eriema's artwork showed me that it can work in a more muted way and it was very very helpful!!

I started to get the colours down in the bottom right corner!! I really like this sketch page honestly. some bonus self portrait sketches because I wanted to try and put some more of my own features into his design as my sona! also in the notes I was debating between the two eye shapes and I'm still thinking about it. I think the bottom ones fit his personality more and are way more expressive but I just like the Vibe of the top ones

my most recent sketch as of posting! I might update this later, but this sketch page is probably the most gratuitously referenced, the expressions in the bottom left and top right were basically ripped from @/microwavablesquid so if you like those please check them out! the basic design structure of the full body was referenced from @/aresonist, retroactively I realised a lot of my design choices. uh. they also made LMAOOO so if my design in General tickles your brain, follow them!

as for his lore and basic information for what he actually Is, uhhh. ??? I don't know HAHAHA he's a little guy! he's creature! is he human? probably not but no one could say for sure! is he bugs? is he 1000 bugs in a trenchcoat? sometimes he's goat I guess??? I can never decide on a design and I think that aids his cryptid-like habits. he shows up sometimes, vibes and can't die in a way that matters! he has a running motif of my fake-God-thing, the centipede ouroboros, so I was like "what if he was a harbinger of the ouroboros, what then." and I like to imagine he has video game logic where when he dies, he basically respawns. also weirdly it's worked out in a way where he has lots of biblical motifs, like my name is literally nimbus, like the halo, and he's a messenger of a god like some fucked up blorbo angel. also lily of the valley is my favourite flower and I like drawing him with it, it also has lots of symbolism in the bible?? wild.

I sincerely doubt it but if you guys have any questions about nim or want to draw him or anything I would Die. I would just keel over. you'd take me out.

glow - do you make any art?

Hahaha yes, and it’s chaotic. I haven’t been doing a lot of painting recently to be honest, I’ve mostly been focussing on learning new things like fibre arts and furniture restoration and recycling and of course I’m back at school studying design so that’s taking up most of my time. Here’s a couple of older paintings that I still have because I couldn’t bear to part with them, sorry about the bad reflections and the weird lighting (it’s like 10am here and overcast). 

lay - do you put key-chains or fun things on your keys or do you just stick to the basics, and if you do put things on what is your favorite?

I like my keys to be pretty minimal so I just have the Guerilla Girls Do women have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum keychain.

To be honest, I don’t even have a key to my house on the chain because we have a digital lock, so it’s normally just two car keys and that keychain, although I did put a mini tapemeasure on it yesterday as I am always finding weird pieces of furniture and needing to measure them when I least expect it!

journal - would you rather dance in the rain or bask in the sun? 

Oh that’s a no brainer for me 100% sun all the time every time. I hate being damp and sticky ugh there’s just something about it that makes me feel like I need a shower immediately.

Rigmor fact: Right, so... this isn't related entirely to her, but one of her two best friends, Leila, is actually a character from an older story I had that I recycled! The character was originally a black cat who could walk on two feet and talk and act like a human - and also did magic.

Back then however my little child brain didn't know how to describe things well, so her spells were literally just words that rhymed, and she could do basically anything with her power which is very OP and not that fun hahaha. Say, like

Ice-cream candy I would like, please give me it, me, oh, my!

or something.

Later I thought I wanted to, y'know, give my girl friends... and so Leila became one of them. A girl of colour, cos the kitty was black.

Mun fact: I used to go to the choir back when I went to uni!! Singing/music is one of my favourite things aside from art and books. I stopped going, though. Long story short, I used to date a guy who would go to the choir, but we broke up and it was quite the drama because some people that claimed to be our friends turned us against each other and... it wasn't pretty. I'm in a better place now, but I'd feel guilty going to that singing teacher again so if I do go back someday it'll be somewhere else. Well yikes this became a rant, sorry

SORRY I MEANT NO OFFENSE, Jay Jays itself does not suck (any more than any other comparable BrandTM) IMO, I just think the placement of Usagi is kind of hilarious because it just... looks so random to me. Like they remind me of plain black joggers that your mum decorated with an iron-on decal. But then again I kind of want them, maybe specifically because of that vibe? I hope they are comfy anon, I’m glad you own them. I might end up owning them too, lmao.

UBERHOOD INDEX

Do you realise it is only four and a half months until the next birthday auction? Hahaha, sorry, just kidding you. It’s not as if I am really planning ahead at this stage. But I *am* assuming that there will be demand for another birthday auction this year, again??? Not least because I received two packages yesterday that made me think of the next auction. Let me tell you why.

The first parcel I unwrapped yesterday, is from KellyDS. It’s the top one in the image above. And to my surprise it contained a whole array of wonderful items that are intended for the next auction. Explains Kelly:

I was hoping you could make use of these in a future auction. The 2 audio books I listened to once each. I enjoyed but I’m just not an audio book person. The Hannibal movie was given to me by another fan. It’s not something I want to revisit regularly, too dark! The Plushie I requested after I saw it in a different auction. I displayed it proudly for a while but it’s been living in a drawer the past few years. Hopefully someone could make it “real” again.

In other words: Kelly has somewhat moved on from Richard. Impossible, I know. But well, such, apparently, is the power of the Dan…  The point is: Instead of committing her once coveted and dearly loved fan art and fan items to the bin or to eBay, Kelly is passing it on so that it all can find a new home somewhere, brightening another fan’s day. That is a wonderful thought, and I just thought I’d mention it here for all those of you who may at some later stage move on. If you do, don’t throw those bits and pieces away, please. Pass them on to another fan – or to me for an auction. We’ll turn well-loved items into a charity donation. That’s three times the joy from just one item: the original owner, the auction winner/second owner, and the charity in whose aid we are auctioning off things. This is an idea that in the past has been trialled by a particular fan who prefers to remain unnamed. She has generated a large share of the donations that we have been able to pass on. She was downsizing and let go of some special items. Thank you for that. And a big thank you to Kelly for doing the same now. You are a star! 😘

Another star who sent me gorgeous items that will end up in an auction, is LoLo. She not only had Flat Richie to look after, she also put together a massive parcel for me.

Those peanut butter M&Ms were definitely for me and not for an auction. I’m afraid they are already gone, too. And then there was a whole package full of goodies for crafting and for auctions.

I loved unwrapping the items – although they are not necessarily for me. LoLo is the originator of the Zox trap craze, and she enclosed several in this package. Some are for me, but some are to be auctioned. The many small rectangles are a whole heap of mint tins. (Not quite sure whether all of them work – there are some that don’t have a hinged lid.) There are a few new designs there that I had to laugh out loud at.

Wonder Woman and Superman… And that Hangover tin 😂… We’ll see what I can come up with. And then there were a few more items that relate to LoLo’s place of residence – and which will turn up in the auctions as we get to them. In any case, it was a fabulous surprise for me – and like Kelly’s parcel, this one also holds plenty of items for future auctions. So, many many thanks to LoLo for the fantastic gifts and the great donations. You rock! 😘 But we have to put a stop to this because the postage costs ($61 😱) are daylight robbery and it really, really makes me wince when I think that you coughed up all that money.

So, anyway, the upshot is: Get ready for the Charity Auctions 2019. If you are a (ex) fan who’s moving on, consider the auctions for donations. That way, what may have been my baby initially, is a true community effort. That makes it so much more meaningful for all of us. In any case, I continue to be overwhelmed by the generosity of my fellow fans – not only towards me personally, but also for our on-going auction project. Thanks to all of you.

How did you get so good at digital art? Were you good when you first started?

First of all, THANK YOU ♥In all honesty, I’ve really only been doing steady digital art since January of this year. I’d tried it years ago playing around with an ex boyfriends tablet. He was a comic book artist/freelancer himself and I watched him FOR HOURS while he worked. Prior to that, I’ve always loved to draw on paper/paint/etc but got frustrated and gave up easily. I also used to do a lot of clay sculpting when I was a teenager.I’ve drawn something almost every single day since I bought my first tablet in January. Even if it’s just a shitty doodle. I find digital art much easier to learn than traditional art because of the unlimited amount of mistakes and control you can have with it. My partner tells me that my history as a makeup artist helps me greatly with my skin painting, and I like to think it does as well, so it’s not a total waste that I’ve switched professions hahaha.Honestly I still have such a long long way to go, and I take huge inspiration from people like Charlie Bowater, Monolime, Aaron Griffin and a ton of others. I struggle a lot with consistency in my style of art/painting because I haven’t found something I really love yet, and I give up on so so so many pieces half way through. My boyfriend pulls them out of my computers recycling bin when I’m not looking because I always end up regretting it after hahaha.The pencil drawing below was the first “actual portrait” I ever did. I was 18 I think. In “ “ because of course I drew people before, but never really tried lmao.And the second one of the girl in the moon was my very first completed digital piece. It’s my assassin character from a videogame I play, called Aion.Sorry for the novel of an answer.Edit: And just to add, whether or not someone is decent at it from the start, there’s always room to learn. Everyone can learn. Like I said above, digital art is much more forgiving than traditional art, so I always encourage people to give it a try if they want to.
