Farewell to the Wood

Yeah you already knew I was gonna do a cover for the Hundred Acre Wood chapter of Keys, bittersweet as it may be. Its lowkey one of my favorites because it represents the quiet tragedy of the loss of Sora's innocence or something like that. Also I would die for Pooh Bear.

Coming to think of it, Soranort is kind of a lazy trope anyway, and I’m really glad it didn’t happen in canon. Now, before y’all complain, lemme finish.

The idea behind Soranort is a pretty interesting one: exploring Sora’s dark side. However, it falls completely flat on that front, and that is not on how the community handles it. Rather, it’s because Soranort effectively absolves Sora of any responsibility, because it can be argued that any action he takes while norted or how he gets there is not his fault. However, that also means that the darkness you’re exploring isn’t really Sora’s darkness. In that way, Soranort is basically an excuse to fake Dark!Sora while still keeping him “pure”. Again, even canon recognized this and ended up not going for it (which I know some fans were pretty upset about, but I think it was actually a good narrative choice).

That is not to say that there aren’t interesting themes to explore with Soranort, or Norting in general. However, I just don’t think it works to explore Sora’s darkness, and that is by design, not by handling.

New SV quest! It's a KH canon divergence au where you (Sora) get Norted at the end of DDD and are trying to escape the Organization and get Xehanort out of your heart.

It's been in my head for months, and I've finally decided to give in and write it.

Description:

You are not Number XIII; you are Sora.  No matter what happens, you have to remember that.  The new heart within you is not welcome, and you’re not going to blindly follow Xehanort’s orders like the vessel he says you are.  You will find a way out of this horrible Organization, and you will reunite with your friends, no matter how long it takes.  Even if it means partaking in the web of schemes and agendas that exist among your so-called comrades, you will return to the light.  Still, it’s hard to be patient when you can feel yourself slipping, slowly ceasing to be you.  (AU quest where Xehanort succeeds in making Sora his thirteenth vessel at the end of DDD)

Sometimes he'd feel impatient for them to finally fall out of the teenager ... He kept his hand there on Sora's skin, just so the darkness would be measured carefully as it continued its work. His grip shifted a little bit , now letting the energy within turn to something electrifying, along with the occasional fiery feeling.

Time for something a little new.

"Though, if this doesn't work .. I can always track down certain friends ..?" No- but he certainly would make them out to be hallucinations for the boy to deal with.

He barely flinched as the man stepped forward, one hand on his hip as he mentally braced himself for what was coming. He’d felt this burning under his flesh and through his heart many times before— all when his darkness forced it’s way forward and sent him into a frenzy. True to his word, he didn’t care if Xehanort hurt him anymore.

Even as he fought back screams.
