Meanwhile a Night Lords femboy looks as if you dragged a half-feral and seemingly malnourished overstretched gremlin out of some gutter with a skin so pale you fear he bursts into flames the moment he walks into the sun. I doubt you can find a term that covers both extremes.

I love how over here the entire Custodes topic is a complete non-issue. Like "huh, neat" (or perhaps a bit more enthusiasm...) and life goes on, while r/grimdank is STILL under siege from culture-war assholes in the "new" section. It is slowly calming down apparently as they have grown pretty tired of being told to fuck off by a dozen people again and again, bit dang it sure is night and day.

The fuckers now even tried to establish their own "free speech 40k subreddit" (yeah that will totally become a toxic cesspool in no time). Despite now being right past the drama, it has... 816 subs. That's it. For reference: grimdank has 407k. So apparently the assholes who claimed to be speaking for the entire fanbase did not even make up 0.2% of the sub - and that is assuming they all are from grimdank originally and not just some shit-stirring outsiders as it so often happens with culture war nonsense.

Just saw your tags, and tbh I think poor Roboute blames himself more than Lorgar blames him. For Lorgar who believes in fate an inevitability, it was a tragedy, but in a way it showed him the path to what he is now. Meanwhile Roboute blames himself for carrying out his father's orders without question, knowing that this would not sit well with the weakest of their brothers. The likes of Russ or Angron would have fought, marched their legions into pointless war, and eventually would have accepted their defeat more or less gracefully as fighters do. But Lorgar was no fighter and Roboute KNEW that. He knew this was the beginning of something terrible, which is why he was so happy when Horus, freshly turned traitor, ordered a joint mission of Word Bearers and Ultramarines at Calth - finally a chance to set things right! Or so he thought, for the traitors had other plans. But seeing Calth as a repsonse for Monarchia, in a way Roboute sees himself responsible, carrying the guilt through the millenia. Quite unfair, given how Lorgar is probably long over the whole thing...

By the time of Calth, when Lorgar revealed his treachery, Roboute just assumed this was revenge for Monarchia. Lorgar laughed in his face and said that was nothing, what he was doing was so much bigger than petty revenge. But I agree with you, I don't think Roboute ever actually believed that. Even after he learned about Horus's rebellion and the daemons and everything else, he still thought that Lorgar's feud was against him, specifically. And I also see why Roboute felt so guilty. I wonder (and I'm sure Roboute wondered many times) what would have happened if he had tried to stand up to the Emperor and say no, I won't attack my brother's city. Nothing good would have come of it, and Roboute's sons may have paid a steep price for it, too. But even Malcador admitted in hindsight, Monarchia was a mistake.

This all reminds me that I need to go back and read The First Heretic. I haven't read that one since it came out in 2010-2011 or so.

It nearly wiped out humanity... maybe that would have been a better fate." Magnus continued to smile as she mused about such history. It was a pleasant break from the fighting. It made her miss her sibling, Lorgar somewhat, and the long philisophical talks that they would have. Talks of what everything meant in the universe, discussions of history, politics, religion... Lorgar always and predictably would move the conversation to religion, but Magnus didn't mind. How naive they were.
