Her first job was posing topless (modesty covered by a boa constrictor) for Swedish men’s magazine Slitz. The photos were so popular that she was crowned Miss Slitz 2004. (NB It isn’t clear if these were just courses, or led to a degree.)This is where Princess Sofia and Meghan diverge:- After marrying Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia receive a public backlash and an onslaught of abuse for having been a glamour (ie topless) model. ‘I was met with an enormous hate storm…’ On the other hand, Meghan received largely positive press: the British mostly were genuinely pleased at the modernisation of the Royal Family.- She and her husband set up the Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s Foundation, which helps young people to be safer online, as well as increasing understanding and respect for people with dyslexia.- During the pandemic, Princess Sofia took a 3-day course at Sophiahemmet University College in Stockholm, which then enabled her to assist with covid healthcare work, with other staff members at Sophiahemmet hospital.It’s interesting to see how others in similar situations deal with their challenges. You could run away and demand more. Alternatively:What doesn’t kill you really does make you better.And Princess Sofia seems to be grateful for her position:Maybe she’s just saying this - or maybe she really means it.This isn’t a post about Princess Sofia - rather, it’s about how being the wife of a spare doesn’t limit one. On September 7, 2022, HM Queen Silvia of Sweden attended the Silvia Hemmet’s graduation ceremony at Drottningholm’s Castle Theater. The Queen gave brooches and diplomas to the newly graduated “Silvia Sisters” and “Silvia Nurses” who had completed their education at Sophiahemmet College, which was in collaboration with Silvia Home. HM Queen Silvia also gave diplomas to assistant administrators, dentists, dental hygienists, speech therapists, and deacons who have studied dementia sciences, which was also in collaboration with Silvia Home.

History of Silvia Home:

The Silvia Home was founded in 1996 by HM Queen Silvia. The Silvia Home works to expand the knowledge and skills for those who either work with people who have dementia or for their relatives. Healthcare employees are trained regularly for their respective field.

Queen Louise of Sweden as a young princess by Philipp Alexius de Laszlo (oil on canvas, 1907)

Queen Louise, formerly Lady Louise Mountbatten, was born as Princess Louise Alexandra Marie Irene of Battenberg in Germany in 1889, but grew up in England.

During the First World War, she volunteered with the Red Cross and served as a nurse from March 1915 to July 1917. Queen Louise took an active interest in nurses' working conditions. During the Winter War, she opened a children's home for Finnish war orphans at Ulriksdal Palace. She also participated actively at Sophiahemmet's meetings.

In 1923, she married Crown Prince Gustaf (VI) Adolf.

Louise has been described as a staunch democrat and a practical person who disliked the attention she received as queen.
