The Outrun (dir. Nora Fingscheidt).

A luminous Saoirse Ronan stars as a biologist in the throws of recovery from alcohol addiction and her family trauma, based on British journalist Amy Liptrot's award-winning 2016 memoir of the same name. She goes back to her childhood home to the remote Scottish archipelago of the Orkney Islands after a decade of partying hard in London to get clean and reset her life while struggling to deal with her mother's devout religiousness and father's manic bipolar episodes. It's a stark portrait of alcoholism and rehabilitation elevated by Ronan's stunning performance. How it presents both hitting rock bottom and daily sobriety and the devastatingly real depiction of sobriety is hard not to admire.
