„Das Flüstern der Felder“ (Originaltitel: „Chłopi“) ist ein animiertes Filmdrama von Dorota Kobiela und Hugh Welchman, das 2023 seine Premiere beim Toronto International Film Festival feierte. Der Film basiert auf dem preisgekrönten Roman „Die Bauern“ von Władysław Reymont, der 1924 mit dem Nobelpreis für Literatur ausgezeichnet wurde.

Die Geschichte spielt Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts und folgt dem Leben der jungen Bauernfrau Jagna Paczesiówna (Kamila Urzedowska). Trotz ihrer tiefen Liebe zu Antek Boryna (Robert Gulaczyk), dem Sohn eines wohlhabenden Bauern, wird sie von ihrer Familie gezwungen, den älteren und reichen Landwirt Maciej Boryna (Mirosław Baka) zu heiraten. Diese Zwangsehe führt zu Konflikten und emotionalen Turbulenzen in der Gemeinschaft und stellt Jagna vor eine harte Prüfung.

Tiny Review: The Peasants 2023. Enchanting village drama.

This is quite an enchanting watch. Want to be immersed in village drama? This is it.  

The ending reminds me of Nicole Kidman's Dogville, which I have reviewed.

The animated/live-action mixed media is a magical alternative to modern green screen CGI. I will be checking out its predecessor Loving Vincent soon.

The Peasants (Polish: Chłopi) is a 2023 adult animated historical drama film directed and written by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman. An adaptation of Władysław Reymont's Nobel Prize-winning novel of the same name, the film was produced using the painted animation technique similar to the pair's previous film, Loving Vincent. The film stars an ensemble cast featuring Kamila Urzędowska, Robert Gulaczyk, Mirosław Baka, Sonia Mietielica, Ewa Kasprzyk, Cezary Łukaszewicz, Małgorzata Kożuchowska, Sonia Bohosiewicz, Dorota Stalińska, Andrzej Konopka, Marcin Rusin and Maciej Musiał.
