no real point to this, its just a common progression i like a lot and a few of my fav songs tend to use it a bunch. i pitched Song of the Ancients and King of Strangeness down to fit the key What Did You Mean By Love? cuz that's the key my guitar is in too, but its all the same bass movements

also i forgot that i liked to keep my guitar is tuned down a half-step so the notes here are only "relatively" accurate and i just realized it as i was typing this all out (((:

the first half of these use the same chords too of Amin -> E7 -> C -> A7 -> Dmin (i think What Did You Mean By Love? actually goes to Emin, not E7 but you could easily swap them out. imo that E chord is more for effect and flare than anything else)

another cheat i did was in the second half of Song of the Ancients, the bass doesn't actually do D -> E -> F -> E, but rather D -> C -> B -> E. theyre both using notes in the same chord tho so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

like i said, no real point to this, theres many holes to it that that would say im Technically not correct, but im correct enough for it to be okay with me :D

one of my top played songs on Spotify this year was Song of the Ancients/Popola from Nier Replicant and every time i listen to it i feel like it transports me into the universe of the game. I still haven't finished it so I don't know a lot of plot stuff (forgive me if anything I say is wrong because of that) but i think the song just captures the sort of.... post apocalyptic decay and nostalgia that permeates the world in it. Nier Replicant's environments are filled with ancient technology that (for the most part) no one in the game understands anymore, from robots to something as simple as train tracks. There's a constant sense that the world used to be less empty, but due to Plot Reasons the human population continues to shrink and more knowledge and history are lost to time with each passing day. The lyrics to Song of the Ancients have no actual meaning, but to me the sound of it tells a story of people looking at the world around them and longing for everything they've lost in the last several hundred years, with the knowledge that it can never be recovered.

2/24 - Sorry for the late posts, I was on vacation. All caught up now. :)

so er

i tried to make a transcription of song of the ancients / fate (a single line, mind you) into the phonetic alphabet.

it's my first time ever trying this so ofc i have zero experience and it really isn't very accurate per se, but i still spent like an entire hour trying to figure it out and making "corrections". this fragment is from 1:29 to 1:36:

[ɤːðrəʤaˑin̪ aʔhɜ:ren̪ʤek ʔhɤːrasɻaː]

i tried to transcribe it to the latin alphabet before but likewise, it of course is very much not accurate and makes no sense unless you read it in spanish:

"u'jdrajyain ajfuore'enhyek júrashwa"

the first try at this was "u'hdrahjain ahfuore'enhjek húrashwa"... but the "j" doesn't work very well in spanish so i put a "y" in there as a placeholder... which isn't too good either. the same with the "h" in some cases, so "j" is used as a placeholder for it.

this transcription isn't really something i could've actually made accurately since the "w" is just a placeholder for what is a slightly more complex sound, which i found most similar to "ɻ"... but of course i'm not a linguist i'm a random fourteen year old with internet access that is very bored and learned the song via listening to it rather than reading the lyrics online, because i'm more of a vocal learner and i've done the same for every single song i've known.

i've been wanting to transcribe nier songs into the phonetic alphabet for quite a while now, but i knew it would be hard and time consuming. both the process of learning and actually trying to figure out how it works, remembering diacritics, phonations, suprasegmentals, etc., so i didn't try it until today because out of nowhere i said "hell yeah imma use this line from song of the ancients as a discord sta- oh..." and i instantly realized real + accurate lyrics don't exist, and i felt sad bc i love singing every version of this song. so i decided to try and finally take the matter into my own hands and made this abherration. still have lots to learn but wanted to post anyway because it was fun.

you know, this is a reason why i'm leaning to get a major in linguistics. it's silly i know...
