Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #20
May 24-31 2024
The EPA awards $900 million to school districts across the country to replace diesel fueled school buses with cleaner alternatives. The money will go to 530 school districts across nearly every state, DC, tribal community, and US territory. The funds will help replace 3,400 buses with cleaner alternatives, 92% of the new buses will be 100% green electric. This adds to the $3 billion the Biden administration has already spent to replace 8,500 school buses across 1,000 school districts in the last 2 years.
For the first time the federal government released guidelines for Voluntary Carbon Markets. Voluntary Carbon Markets are a system by which companies off set their carbon emissions by funding project to fight climate change like investing in wind or solar power. Critics have changed that companies are using them just for PR and their funding often goes to projects that would happen any ways thus not offsetting emissions. The new guidelines seek to insure integrity in the Carbon Markets and make sure they make a meaningful impact. It also pushes companies to address emissions first and use offsets only as a last resort.
The IRS announced it'll take its direct file program nationwide in 2025. In 2024 140,000 tax payers in 12 states used the direct file pilot program and the IRS now plans to bring it to all Americans next tax season. Right now the program is only for simple W-2 returns with no side income but the IRS has plans to expand it to more complex filings in the future. This is one of the many projects at the IRS being funded through President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act.
The White House announced steps to boost nuclear energy in America. Nuclear power in the single largest green energy source in the country accounting for 19% of America's total energy. Boosting Nuclear energy is a key part of the Biden administration's strategy to reach a carbon free electricity sector by 2035. The administration has invested in bring the Palisades nuclear plant in Michigan back on-line, and extending the life of Diablo Canyon in California. In addition the Military will be deploying new small modular nuclear reactors and microreactors to power its installations. The Administration is setting up a task force to help combat the delays and cost overruns that have often derailed new nuclear projects and the Administration is supporting two Gen III+ SMR demonstration projects to highlight the safety and efficiency of the next generation of nuclear power.
The Department of Agriculture announced $824 million in new funding to protect livestock health and combat H5N1. The funding will go toward early detection, vaccine research, and supporting farmers impacted. The USDA is also launching a nation wide Dairy Herd Status Pilot Program, hopefully this program will give us a live look at the health of America's dairy herd and help with early detection. The Biden Administration has reacted quickly and proactively to the early cases of H5N1 to make sure it doesn't spread to the human population and become another pandemic situation.
The White House announced a partnership with 21 states to help supercharge America's aging energy grid. Years of little to no investment in America's Infrastructure has left our energy grid lagging behind the 21st century tech. This partnership aims to squeeze all the energy we can out of our current system while we rush to update and modernize. Last month the administration announced a plan to lay 100,000 miles of new transmission lines over the next five years. The 21 states all with Democratic governors are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington, and Wisconsin.
The Department of Transportation announced $343 million to update 8 of America's oldest and busiest transportation stations for disability accessibility. These include the MBTA's the Green Line's light-rail B and C branches in Boston,  Cleveland's Blue Line, New Orleans'  St. Charles Streetcar route, and projects in San Francisco and New York City and other locations
The Department of interior announced two projects for water in Western states. $179 million for drought resilience projects in California and Utah and $242 million for expanding water access in California, Colorado and Washington. The projects should help support drinking water for 6.4 million people every year.
HUD announced $150 million for affordable housing for tribal communities. This adds to the over $1 billion dollars for tribal housing announced earlier in the month. Neil Whitegull of the Ho-Chunk Nation said at the announcement "I know a lot of times as Native Americans we've been here and we've seen people that have said, ‘Oh yeah, we'd like to help Indians.’ And they take a picture and they go away. We never see it, But there's been a commitment here, with the increase in funding, grants, and this administration that is bringing their folks out. And there's a real commitment, I think, to Native American tribes that we've never seen before."
Secretary of State Antony Blinken pledged $135 million to help Moldavia. Since the outbreak of Russia's war against neighboring Ukraine the US has given $774 million in aid to tiny Moldavia. Moldavia has long been dependent on Russian energy but thanks to US investment in the countries energy security Moldavia is breaking away from Russia and moving forward with EU membership.
The US and Guatemala launched the "Youth With Purpose” initiative. The initiative will be run through the Central America Service Corps, launched in 2022 by Vice President Harris the CASC is part of the Biden Administration's efforts to improve life in Central America. The Youth With Purpose program will train 25,000 young Guatemalans and connect with with service projects throughout the country.
Bonus: Today, May 31st 2024, is the last day of the Affordable Connectivity Program. The program helped 23 million Americans connect to the internet while saving them $30 to $75 dollars every month. Despite repeated calls from President Biden Republicans in Congress have refused to act to renew the program. The White House has worked with private companies to get them to agree to extend the savings to the end of 2024. The Biden Administration has invested $90 Billion high-speed internet investments. Such as $42.45 billion for Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment, $1 billion for the The Middle Mile program laying 12,000 miles of regional fiber networks, and distributed nearly 30,000 connected devices to students and communities, including more than 3,600 through the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program

We want to address [food security] by using nature-based solutions."”
3. Harnessing ‘invisible forests in plain view’ to reforest the world
Tumblr media
“[… T]he degraded land contained numerous such stumps with intact root systems capable of regenerating themselves, plus millions of tree seeds hidden in the soil, which farmers could simply encourage to grow and reforest the landscape[….] Today, the technique of letting trees resprout and protecting their growth from livestock and wildlife [… has] massive potential to help tackle biodiversity loss and food insecurity through resilient agroforestry systems. [… The UN’s] reported solution includes investing in land restoration, “nature-positive” food production, and rewilding, which could return between $7 and $30 for every dollar spent.”
4. California bars school districts from outing LGBTQ+ kids to their parents
Tumblr media
“Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the SAFETY Act today – a bill that prohibits the forced outing of transgender and gay students, making California the first state to explicitly prohibit school districts from doing so. […] Matt Adams, a head of department at a West London state school, told PinkNews at the time: “Teachers and schools do not have all the information about every child’s home environment and instead of supporting a pupil to be themselves in school, we could be putting them at risk of harm.””
5. 85% of new electricity built in 2023 came from renewables
Tumblr media
“Electricity supplied by renewables, like hydropower, solar, and wind, has increased gradually over the past few decades — but rapidly in recent years. [… C]lean energy now makes up around 43 percent of global electricity capacity. In terms of generation — the actual power produced by energy sources — renewables were responsible for 30 percent of electricity production last year. […] Along with the rise of renewable sources has come a slowdown in construction of non-renewable power plants as well as a move to decommission more fossil fuel facilities.”
6. Deadly cobra bites to "drastically reduce" as scientists discover new antivenom
Tumblr media
“After successful human trials, the snake venom antidote could be rolled out relatively quickly to become a "cheap, safe and effective drug for treating cobra bites" and saving lives around the globe, say scientists. Scientists have found that a commonly used blood thinner known as heparin can be repurposed as an inexpensive antidote for cobra venom. […] Using CRISPR gene-editing technology […] they successfully repurposed heparin, proving that the common blood thinner can stop the necrosis caused by cobra bites.”
7. FruitFlow: a new citizen science initiative unlocks orchard secrets
Tumblr media
“"FruitWatch" has significantly refined phenological models by integrating extensive citizen-sourced data, which spans a wider geographical area than traditional methods. These enhanced models offer growers precise, location-specific predictions, essential for optimizing agricultural planning and interventions. […] By improving the accuracy of phenological models, farmers can better align their operations with natural biological cycles, enhancing both yield and quality.”
8. July 4th Means Freedom for Humpback Whale Near Valdez, Alaska
Tumblr media
“The NOAA Fisheries Alaska Marine Mammal Stranding Hotline received numerous reports late afternoon on July 3. A young humpback whale was entangled in the middle of the Port of Valdez[….] “The success of this mission was due to the support of the community, as they were the foundation of the effort,” said Moran. [… Members of the community] were able to fill the critical role of acting as first responders to a marine mammal emergency. “Calling in these reports is extremely valuable as it allows us to respond when safe and appropriate, and also helps us gain information on various threats affecting the animals,” said Lyman.”
9. Elephants Receive First of Its Kind Vaccine
Tumblr media
“Elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus is the leading cause of death for Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) born in facilities in North America and also causes calf deaths in the wild in Asia. A 40-year-old female received the new mRNA vaccine, which is expected to help the animal boost immunity[….]”
10. Conservation partners and Indigenous communities working together to restore forests in Guatemala
Tumblr media
“The K’iche have successfully managed their natural resources for centuries using their traditional governing body and ancestral knowledge. As a result, Totonicapán is home to Guatemala’s largest remaining stand of conifer forest. […] EcoLogic has spearheaded a large-scale forest restoration project at Totonicapán, where 13 greenhouses now hold about 16,000 plants apiece, including native cypresses, pines, firs, and alders. […] The process begins each November when community members gather seeds. These seeds then go into planters that include upcycled coconut fibers and mycorrhizal fungi, which help kickstart fertilization. When the plantings reach about 12 inches, they’re ready for distribution.”

Hiya! ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ
I find Euillcys' design quite cool and I'm curious about somethings if you don't mind answering.
Is there a practical reason for growing plants on their coat or is it purely an aesthetic choice?
In his ref sheet it says that he uses noice cancelling headphones for faraway echoes. Are those overwhelming for them?
Do they have a favorite plant? (I would assume he is partial to monsteras given his coat pattern)
i am Always happy to answer lore questions!
Tumblr media
euillcys' coat is just part of the common fashion in Lucus Solaris - the region euillcys resides within. integrating plants into everyday apparel is a staple there as seen here:
Tumblr media
regarding the headphones: as a bat it's a bit hard to live in a bustling major city. when your ears are designed to pick up every little noise, it can cause some major migraines. the headphones serve to dampen out faraway noise, making it easier for euillcys to focus on infodumping excitedly about his latest solar-powered gadget.
euillcys absolutely adores monstera plants, but is also an enjoyer of a good fiddle-leaf fig.

Excerpt from this story from RMI:
1. Batteries Become Everybody’s Best Friend
Battery prices continue to drop and their capacity continues to rise. The cost of electric vehicle (EV) batteries are now about 60 percent what they were just five years ago. And around the world, batteries have become key components in solar-plus-storage microgrids, giving people access to reliable power and saving the day for communities this past hurricane season.
2. Americans Get Cheaper (and Cleaner) Energy
State public utility commissions and rural electric co-operatives around the country are taking steps to deliver better service for their customers that also lowers their rates. At the same time, real momentum is building to prevent vertically integrated utilities from preferencing their coal assets when there are cleaner and cheaper alternatives available.
3. A Sustainable Shipping Future Gets Closer
More than 50 leaders across the marine shipping value chain — from e-fuel producers to vessel and cargo owners, to ports and equipment manufacturers — signed a Call to Action at the UN climate change conference (COP29) to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission fuels. The joint statement calls for faster and bolder action to increase the use of zero and near-zero emissions fuel, investment in zero-emissions vessels, and global development of green hydrogen infrastructure, leaving no country behind.
4. Corporations Fly Cleaner
In April, 20 corporations, including Netflix, JPMorgan Chase, Autodesk, and more, committed to purchase about 50 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), avoiding 500,000 tons of CO2 emissions — equivalent to the emissions of 3,000 fully loaded passenger flights from New York City to London. SAF is made with renewable or waste feedstocks and can be used in today’s aircraft without investments to upgrade existing fleets and infrastructure.
5. More and More Places Go From Coal to Clean
Around the world, coal-fired power plants are closing down as communities switch to clean energy. From Chile to the Philippines to Minnesota coal-to-clean projects are creating new jobs, improving local economic development, and generating clean electricity. In September, Britain became the first G7 nation to stop generating electricity from coal — it’s turning its last coal-fired power plant into a low-carbon energy hub. And in Indonesia, the president vowed to retire all coal plants within 15 years and install 75 gigawatts of renewable energy.
6. Methane Becomes More Visible, and Easier to Mitigate
Methane — a super-potent greenhouse gas — got much easier to track thanks to the launch of new methane tracking satellites over the past year. In March, the Environmental Defense Fund launched MethaneSAT, the first for a non-governmental organization, and the Carbon Mapper Coalition soon followed with the launch of Tanager-1. By scanning the planet many times each day and identifying major methane leaks from orbit, these new satellites will put pressure on big emitters to clean up.
7. EVs Speed By Historic Milestones
This past year was the first time any country had more fully electric cars than gas-powered cars on the roads. It’s no surprise that this happened in Norway where electric cars now make up more than 90 percent of new vehicle sales. And in October, the United States hit a milestone, with over 200,000 electric vehicle charging ports installed nationwide.
8. Consumers Continue to Shift to Energy-Efficient Heat Pumps for Heating and Cooling
Heat pumps have outsold gas furnaces consistently since 2021. And while shipments of heating and cooling equipment fell worldwide in 2023, likely due to broad economic headwinds, heat pumps held on to their market share through. And over the past 12 months, heat pumps outsold conventional furnaces by 27 percent. Shipments are expected to continue increasing as states roll out home efficiency and appliance rebate programs already funded by the Inflation Reduction Act – worth up to $10,000 per household in new incentives for heat pump installations. Link: Tracking the Heat Pump & Water Heater Market in the United States – RMI
9. China Reaches Its Renewable Energy Goal, Six Years Early
China added so much renewable energy capacity this year, that by July it had surpassed its goal of having 1,200 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy installed by 2030. Through September 2024, China installed some 161 GW of new solar capacity and 39 GW of new wind power, according to China’s National Energy Administration (NEA). China is deploying more solar, wind, and EVs than any other country, including the United States, which is — by comparison — projected to deploy a record 50 GW of solar modules by the end of 2024.
10. De-carbonizing Heavy Industry
For steel, cement, chemicals and other heavy industries, low-carbon technologies and climate-friendly solutions are not only increasingly available but growing more affordable. To speed this process, Third Derivative, RMI’s climate tech accelerator, launched the Industrial Innovation Cohorts to accelerate the decarbonization of steel, cement, and chemicals. Also on the rise: clean hydrogen hubs — powered by renewable energy — designed to supply green hydrogen to chemical, steel, and other heavy industries to help them shift to low-carbon production processes.

Some person in a discord I'm in made a big post about how no government that is capable of producing nuclear energy should produce it because it would be "fundamentally undemocratic" for electricity generation to be centralized.
should I try and engage in civil discussion or just accept that they're an anarchist and not waste my time.
Genuinely interested in what their proposed alternative to centralisation is, since it's impossible to like, mine and process lithium to manufacture batteries for wind turbines, or construct the machinery to fabricate integrated circuits for solar panels, in your backyard. Ultimately the necessity of centralisation is one of all industry (and socialised production) in general. Like, ultimately all these arguments on authority, if taken to their eventual conclusions, end with either 'alright, I guess it doesn't actually matter as much as electricity for hospitals does', or anti-civ ecofascism. Usually they don't get that far, though, and just end at 'shut up, I'm just talking about nuclear power', so engage at your own peril. I will say, however, that planting the seed of a correct idea is often all it takes for it to slowly grow over time.

Creating the world’s “greenest” highway in a desert city: URB city design
Tumblr media
Bagherian’s concept includes “water-sensitive landscape design” that includes native flora and drought-resistant plants suited to the arid climate, and soil mixed with zeolite, an absorbent crystal that aids water retention.
Tumblr media
These “passive techniques” are complemented with smart irrigation technology, he added, “which use real-time data to adjust watering schedules based on soil moisture levels, weather forecasts, and plant needs.”
Smart tech and solar-power
The autonomous solar-powered tram is just one aspect of the proposed highway’s transport system: above the tram line, a network of green areas, parks and overpasses would increase connectivity and walkability of the city, which is currently tough to navigate on foot.
The highway would also integrate smart technology, such as “internet of things” (IoT) sensors, to manage traffic and optimize energy use.
Bagherian’s designs allow for 300-megawatt solar panels and a storage system to be embedded in the tracks, that would power the tram line, as well as generate clean energy for an estimated 130,000 homes.
And the green spaces — including parks and community gardens — would provide space for one million trees, which would also help cool the city and improve air quality.

About That Big Solar Power Plant …
Meanwhile, Sunly has not let the grass grow under its feet. Last week the company rolled out its first project under the new financing, a 244-megawatt solar power plant located in Risti, in Lääne County. A 144-megawatt battery array will complement the solar panels, and Sunly is in discussions with local communities to determine the location of nine wind turbines.
At 244 megawatts, the size of the project is a giant step up for Estonia. The current record holder for solar power plants in the country is the 77.5-megawatt Kirikmäe Solar Farm in Pärnu County, which started operating in October. The Kirikmäe project more than doubled Estonia’s installed solar capacity in one blow. Now here comes the Risti project, which is more than triple the size(..)

"Powering the Future: The Explosive Growth of the Residential Solar Energy Storage Market ⚡🌍"
Tumblr media
The Future of Residential Solar Energy Storage: A $33.32 Billion Market by 2030 🌞🔋
The transition to renewable energy is happening right before our eyes, and one of the most exciting sectors in this transformation is the residential solar energy storage market. As homeowners increasingly turn to solar panels to generate clean energy, storage systems are making it possible for them to use that energy whenever they need it – day or night. With the market already valued at $9.3 billion in 2023, it's expected to skyrocket to a staggering $33.32 billion by 2030. This rapid growth is driven by a combination of technological advancements, increasing demand for energy independence, and government incentives.
Let’s explore why this market is growing so fast and what the future holds.
Why Solar Energy Storage Is Gaining Popularity:
1. Powering the Future with Independence and Resilience
Extreme weather events like power outages have made homeowners more conscious of their reliance on the grid. Solar storage systems provide the perfect solution. They allow homeowners to store the excess energy produced by their solar panels during the day, which they can use at night or during power outages. This helps ensure a reliable and uninterrupted power supply, especially in times of crisis.
With the growing frequency of weather-related disruptions, the desire for energy independence is stronger than ever. Homeowners want to take control of their own energy production, and solar energy storage allows them to do just that – without relying on the traditional power grid.
2. Government Incentives and Support
One of the driving forces behind the rise of solar energy storage systems is the financial incentives offered by governments worldwide. In many countries, homeowners can take advantage of tax credits, rebates, and grants that reduce the upfront cost of installing solar storage systems. These incentives make solar energy storage more affordable, which is why more and more people are investing in it.
3. Technological Advancements in Battery Technology
The most significant improvement in solar energy storage systems has been in battery technology. The most common battery used today is lithium-ion due to its high efficiency, reliability, and decreasing cost. As battery prices continue to drop, solar storage systems are becoming more accessible to homeowners, even those on a budget.
In addition to lithium-ion, new battery technologies such as flow batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and solid-state batteries are emerging. These innovations are expected to offer even better performance and longer life cycles, making solar storage even more cost-effective and sustainable.
4. Smart Home Integration: The Next Step
With the rise of smart home technology, solar storage systems are becoming more intelligent. AI-powered systems are now able to optimize energy consumption, helping homeowners store and use energy in the most efficient way possible. For instance, solar storage systems can be integrated with home automation, adjusting energy use based on the time of day, weather conditions, or energy demand.
Additionally, Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) are changing the game. By linking multiple home solar storage systems, VPPs allow homeowners to sell excess energy back to the grid, creating a new source of income and helping utilities manage demand. This provides a powerful incentive for homeowners to adopt solar storage.
Challenges on the Horizon:
While the residential solar energy storage market is growing rapidly, there are still challenges that need to be addressed:
1. Initial Investment Costs
Despite decreasing prices, the upfront cost of solar energy storage systems can still be a significant hurdle for some homeowners. Even with government incentives, the initial investment may not be affordable for everyone. This is especially true for people who are unfamiliar with the long-term cost savings or environmental benefits of solar energy storage.
2. Awareness and Education
While many people are familiar with solar panels, fewer understand the benefits of solar storage. Education is key to helping homeowners understand how these systems work and how they can save money and help the environment. As awareness grows, so too will the demand for these systems.
3. Grid Integration and Policy Inconsistencies
Not all regions have the same grid integration policies for solar storage. While some countries have clear rules and incentives for homeowners to connect their solar storage systems to the grid, others have limited or inconsistent regulations. This lack of uniformity can create confusion for homeowners who are considering solar storage.
4. Environmental Concerns
The environmental impact of lithium-ion batteries – especially in terms of production and disposal – is a concern. Although these batteries are efficient, their production process can be harmful to the environment. As a result, there is a push toward more eco-friendly alternatives, which will likely shape the future of solar storage.
Opportunities: The Bright Future of Solar Energy Storage
Despite these challenges, the future of residential solar energy storage is full of exciting opportunities:
1. New Ownership Models
One of the most interesting developments is the rise of third-party ownership and utility-owned storage models. These models allow homeowners to avoid the upfront costs by renting or subscribing to solar storage systems. This makes solar energy storage accessible to a wider range of people, including those who may not be able to afford the full cost of installation.
2. Diversification Beyond Backup Power
Solar storage systems are no longer just about providing backup power. They are now being used for electric vehicle charging, powering appliances during outages, and even contributing to microgrid systems that can power entire communities. As more applications are developed, solar storage will play an increasingly integral role in our energy systems.
3. Expanding Markets in Emerging Regions
While North America and Europe lead the charge, Asia-Pacific is becoming a key market for solar storage. Countries like China, India, and Japan are seeing rapid growth in the adoption of solar panels, and residential solar storage is following suit. As governments in these regions promote clean energy, the demand for solar storage systems will continue to rise.
4. Innovations in Battery Technologies
The next wave of battery technologies promises to improve solar storage even further. New technologies, such as sodium-ion and solid-state batteries, could provide higher energy densities, longer lifespans, and lower environmental impacts. These innovations will make solar storage more affordable and sustainable.
Conclusion: A Bright, Clean Future Ahead
The residential solar energy storage market is on track to see unprecedented growth, with a projected market size of $33.32 billion by 2030. As technological advancements, government incentives, and growing consumer demand fuel this transformation, solar storage is becoming an essential component of the clean energy future.
From increased energy independence and resilience during power outages to smart home integration and eco-friendly innovations, solar energy storage offers an exciting path forward for homeowners. If you’re considering solar energy storage or want to learn more about this rapidly evolving market, now is the time to get involved.
The future of clean, reliable, and independent energy is here, and solar storage is leading the way! 🌱⚡

Impact of Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer in Gurgaon
Tumblr media
https://public.www.evernote.com/resources/s345/daf775b8-0932-6e8b-a9bd-c5b5642666c1
Sewage treatment plants are an integral part of the urban water cycle as they are the last source to untreated wastewater before the release in the environment. The specific units involved in these have a range of technologies that help eliminate contaminants through physical, chemical, and biological processes. Herein, STPs transform raw sewage to cleaned reusable water and thereby reduce the environmental burden from the discharge of wastewater within Gurgaon.
However, one of the major players in this area is Gurgaon Jal Board, which is the primary water utility agency of the city. DJB has engaged actively with multiple manufacturers of sewage treatment plants to enhance the capital's infrastructure regarding wastewater management. These collaborations have led to many new STPs being built and many being up-graded across the city, all tailor-made according to the needs of each locality.
The direct result of such joint undertakings is found in water quality improvements which are constantly being registered in Gurgaon. The Central Pollution Control Board has registered a reduction in both levels of biological oxygen demand and total coliform in water bodies around the city. Indeed the enhanced capabilities in sewage treatment directly resultant from the technological expertise of the manufacturers can be credited for such improvements.
Apart from immediate benefits of clean water, Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer form part of the larger environmental considerations by substantially reducing discharge into natural resources at risk of potential contamination of groundwaters-a serious threat in the city of Gurgaon. Treated effluent from STPs can also be reused for many non-potable purposes such as gardening, industrial applications, or direct recharge to groundwater-a further input towards the city's efforts at water conservation.
Innovative technologies developed by such producers also served to contribute toward improving the efficiency and sustainability of Gurgaon's system of sewage treatment. For instance, some STPs have designs that are energy-efficient and capitalize on the use of renewable sources of energy, such as solar power, to reduce carbon footprint; others have more developed sludge management techniques where what initially appears as a waste product in the wastewater treatment processes is turned into fertilizer or biofuels.
Collaboration between Gurgaon Jal Board and the manufacturers of sewage treatment plants was not without its problems, as there was a significant retrofitting of older treatment plants to meet changing regulatory standards, and also the integration of new technologies onto and into existing sites. However, it is their commitment and expertise that have made the delivery of tangible wastewater management improvements in Gurgaon possible.
Today, at a time when the city is confronted with such an overwhelming array of environmental concerns: water scarcity, pollution, and climate change, the importance of a Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer would only start rising. They would contribute toward the overall resilience and the livability of this city called Gurgaon, safeguarding the very future for all its residents, by providing innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
Conclusion:
Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturers in Gurgaon form part of an important fixture on the environmental landscape in this city. Their technological prowess, collaborative spirit, and commitment to sustainability have been the driving forces that transformed the capital's management of water in wastewater, so as to provide a clean, green, and secure and safe future tomorrow for all.

This article is from August 2023 and was written by Mohammed R. Mhawish, a Gaza-based journalist writing for the local +972/Local Call publication. I think it covers a LOT of the current talking points with a lot more knowledge and nuance than many of the takes.
"Last week, the southern governorate of Khan Younis and other areas in the center of the Gaza Strip witnessed tense scenes as several thousand Palestinians took to the streets to protest frequent power outages, food shortages, and overall harsh living conditions. Marching under the banner of “Bidna N’eesh” (“We Want to Live”), the mass protests mark a significant expression of public resentment that has accumulated among the blockaded population for years.
In response, demonstrations in support of Hamas, the Islamist party ruling the strip, paraded down the streets cheering for the government and confronting those who were not voicing support for the movement. The police intervened shortly afterward, reportedly confiscating cell phones and making multiple arrests.
The protests followed days of intense frustration and dispute with the Hamas government, which began after a Khan Younis resident was killed when one of the walls of his house fell on top of him as local authorities attempted to demolish it, claiming it was initially built on a public road. The authorities alleged the man’s death was a tragic accident, firing the mayor of the responsible municipality.
Characterized by their mobility, brevity, and direct impact, the marches appear to be coordinated by grassroots movements through online platforms and social media. Several Palestinians who were among the crowds told me that their demonstrations stem from a fundamental demand for their basic human rights, which include necessities like public services, employment, freedom to travel, and the ability to engage in outside commerce. At the time of writing, the Hamas government has not shared with the public any foreseeable solution to any of these grievances, or how it will address people’s anger.
Electricity has been at the center of the protesters’ demands. While Gaza’s energy crisis predates the current protests, the scorching heat waves enveloping the region this summer have driven temperatures to soar above 38 degrees Celsius (over 100 degrees Fahrenheit) in the strip. The heat has only added to the growing discontent among the territory’s 2.3 million Palestinian residents, who are confined to a stretch of land of around 360 square kilometers that has, since 2007, been cut off by an Israeli blockade that affects every facet of daily life.
This collective frustration has been building over a considerable period of time, as Gaza’s population has to subsist on a daily ration of only four-to-six hours of electricity. Certain residences and businesses resort to private generators or solar panels in order to cope with the prolonged power outages. For others unable to afford such costly equipment, modest battery-powered LED lights provide makeshift illumination, while others fan themselves with plastic trays to try and beat the heat.
According to local energy bodies, Gaza requires approximately 500 megawatts of power per day during the summer season. However, it currently receives a mere 120 megawatts from Israel, with the enclave’s solitary power plant — repeatedly damaged by Israeli military assaults and weakened by restrictions on materials — contributing an additional 60 megawatts. Lately, social media footage has shown Gaza shrouded in darkness at night, with few lights emanating from its cities.
While the public and the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority in the West Bank predominantly attribute Gaza’s challenges to Israel’s occupation, many people believe that Hamas still has some capacity, and the obligation, to initiate helpful measures, including by increasing the power plant’s production and operating it at maximum capacity, especially during the summer.
Bearing the toll
Over the past 16 years, Gaza has become a crucible for enduring humanitarian, economic, and political hardship. The enclave has experienced several rounds of deadly wars with Israel, most devastatingly in the summer of 2014. The closure imposed on all of Gaza’s entry points has plunged the economy into decay, leading to a sharp rise in unemployment and resulting in severe scarcity of essential supplies and other resources.
Palestinians have had to navigate significant divisions within their political leadership, the most apparent of which were the armed clashes between Fatah and Hamas in 2007. Hamas had secured victory in the 2006 parliamentary elections from other factions, controlling the legislature and prime minister’s post while Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas was elected to the presidency.
The Palestinian government was immediately met with sanctions by Israel, the United States, and European countries, exacerbating the factional rivalry that led to Hamas taking over Gaza. Since then, the territory has sunk under the weight of Israel’s crippling siege.
However, the present demonstrations in Gaza stand out due to the heightened level of public engagement and the number of protesters involved. The gravity of the situation is manifold, and the population’s living conditions are only becoming more challenging.
Palestinians have long called for new, inclusive elections, reflecting an exhilarating demand for change. Yet public support for Hamas in Gaza persists, and there is rising concern that the voices of those who seek some form of change and restoration of their rights will be stifled — both by Israeli and Palestinian authorities.
There are several aspects to the evolving complexities among Palestinian political actors. Fatah and Hamas are involved in an ongoing mutual blame game, each attributing Gaza’s troubles to the other party. The PA urges Hamas to take action even as it primarily holds Israel responsible as the occupying power (one which the PA cooperates with under the Oslo Accords). All the while, it is the people who bear the toll and face ominous consequences while the feeble pursuit of reconciliation continues.

Last but not least, Islamic Jihad, once a marginal movement, has recently emerged as a significant player in the Palestinian geopolitical landscape. During Israel’s latest two wars on Gaza in August 2022 and May 2023, Islamic Jihad displayed relatively independent and effective decision-making power on the military front, although it still seeks the political and military endorsement of Hamas as the ruling authority.
Beyond the social fragmentation in Gaza and the West Bank, one winner is currently taking all: the Israeli far right, which is relentlessly targeting the foundations of the Palestinian struggle and advancing its vision of permanently scattering the Palestinian population into disparate territorial and political enclaves.
Under the leadership of Benjamin Netanyahu, the current government is seizing every opportunity to solidify its presence in the West Bank. This includes the construction of illegal settlements, the annihilation of any attempt at armed or popular resistance, and the annexation of Palestinian land and resources — further weakening the basis of any Palestinian political process.
A united front for liberation
The current protests in Gaza undoubtedly echo the legitimate demands of the Palestinian people, who are deserving and capable of forging a new, united front toward freedom and dignity. But the biggest question remains: do the Palestinian leaders possess the willingness to heed these calls, and to take effective measures toward fulfilling them?
Both external and internal observers often attribute the divisions among Palestinian factions to contrasting political and ideological interests. Yet such differences should, if anything, lay the foundation and impetus for a broad political coalition that can align communal needs with the pursuit of liberation. While some argue that the Palestinian factions are gradually realigning against Israel and not each other, many still hold a sense of despair over whether they will ever see a unified leadership that spans the spectrum of war and peace, resistance and governance, and that brings Palestinians together under one common rule.
Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip Ismail Haniyeh (center left) and Yahya Sinwar (center right) march during a protest against US President Donald Trump’s “Deal of the Century” and the “Peace to Prosperity” conference in Bahrain, in Gaza City, June 26, 2019. (Hassan Jedi/Flash90)
In Gaza, there is a notable sentiment that having an armed presence that safeguards Palestinians’ right to self-defense against Israeli military aggression should not overshadow people’s aspiration to live with as much independence and prosperity as they can muster under occupation. The goal of breaking the Israeli blockade, once the primary beacon of hope for freedom in Gaza, is intertwined with the pursuit of meeting basic needs within Gaza’s borders, like two more hours of access to clean drinking water or electricity a day.
This is accompanied by a widespread view that Hamas, like other Palestinian factions, is trying to control and silence grassroots activism and dissent, eliciting further irritation from the public. The Palestinian leaders’ verbal acceptance of the idea of change should not only mean blending their varying perspectives together, but has to also mean a stop to sweeping the people’s collective calls under the carpet for a better future.
Indeed, the intensification of Israeli attacks on all Palestinians across the land, and the aim to disperse the public sphere in Gaza, make these protests an ideal time to reassert the need for a unified Palestinian leadership that can thrive — one that prioritizes upholding human values and the basic needs of life under occupation, and that does not stumble amid the rapidly changing shifts in the regional and international landscape, which have marginalized the Palestinians’ demands for freedom and for decent living conditions too.
More importantly, the current leaderships — both in Gaza and the West Bank — should refrain from governing by diktat, and should instead respect the will of the majority and adhere to the country’s legal frameworks and vision for liberation. Attempting to force change through open conflict with a discontented public is unlikely to succeed. It has never been a successful or just method to achieve self-determination, especially when led by scattered minority factions, each chanting a different slogan and seemingly unconcerned with democratic representation. Each leader ends up clinging to power with no real intention of improving and safeguarding the lives of their constituents.
To overcome these challenges, Palestinians must be able to convey criticisms in a way that resonates with the supporters of each party, rather than simply proving their leaders wrong — thereby demonstrating the possibility of unity. The current Gaza protests, and the Unity Intifada that erupted across all of Palestine two years ago, indicate the necessity of such a united path. Once it has been truly achieved, no external influence will be able to hinder, disregard, or fragment the substantial majority of the people from breaking free from their cycle of exclusion.
Until then, the Palestinian people deserve the chance to address the very valid debate over a much-needed policy roadmap that would determine the fate of their struggle. By setting aside divergent realpolitik on the internal battleground, and doing what can be done for the people with the tools they have, only then can they remain steadfast and hopeful in the face of an occupying force."

Energy Storage: The Future or a Necessity?
As the world transitions to renewable energy, one of the most pressing questions that arises is how to store energy efficiently. With solar and wind power becoming increasingly important, energy storage systems are essential to ensure a stable power supply. But are energy storage solutions the future of energy, or is it a necessity we can no longer ignore?
The Role of Energy Storage in the Modern World
Renewable energy sources such as solar and wind are gaining popularity worldwide. However, these sources are unreliable — solar energy is only available during the day, and wind energy depends on weather conditions. To ensure a continuous power supply, solutions are needed to store excess energy generated during peak times, so it can be used when production drops.
Energy Storage as an Answer to the Unpredictability of Renewable Sources
Without proper energy storage systems, our transition to renewable energy may face significant challenges. Traditional fossil fuel-powered power plants, which can provide energy on demand, are difficult to replace with sources that require energy storage. Energy storage systems allow for the accumulation of excess energy, enabling the power grid to maintain stability regardless of weather conditions or time of day.
Energy Storage Technologies
In recent years, various energy storage technologies have emerged on the market. The most popular solution is lithium-ion batteries, which are used in both small systems (e.g., home energy storage) and larger industrial installations. However, lithium-ion technology is just one of many possibilities. Other solutions, such as flow batteries and solid-state batteries, are also being developed, offering benefits like higher capacity and longer lifespan.
Energy Storage and Sustainable Development
Given the global challenges posed by climate change, sustainable development is becoming a top priority. Energy storage technologies are crucial for transitioning to renewable energy. They allow for the efficient use of renewable energy sources, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Energy storage systems not only stabilize power supply but also enable the creation of more independent and resilient energy grids.
Energy Storage in Practice
More and more individuals and companies are investing in energy storage systems. For households, these solutions provide greater energy independence. With solar panel installations and energy storage systems, it's possible to meet most of a home's energy needs, with surplus energy being stored for later use. On a larger scale, energy storage allows for stabilizing electrical grids, which is essential as more renewable sources are integrated into the energy system.
The Future of Energy Storage
As energy storage technologies become more advanced and affordable, their adoption is expected to spread rapidly. In the future, energy storage systems will likely be an integral part of both homes and energy grids. They will play a crucial role in fighting climate change by enabling efficient use of renewable energy and ensuring energy security worldwide.
In conclusion, energy storage is no longer just a future technology — it has become a necessity in the context of global energy transformation. While the technology is not yet perfect and the cost of installation can still be high, its role in the energy system will only grow. As technologies evolve, energy storage systems will become more accessible, contributing to sustainable development and the protection of our planet.

Excerpt from this story from EcoWatch:
Sunrun, a solar company, and Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), the largest utility provider in Maryland, have launched a pilot program for a bidirectional power plant fueled by solar energy and EV technology.
The pilot, which involves three households, allows users to draw energy from a Ford F-150 Lightning electric truck when paired with the Ford Charge Station Pro and Home Integration System sold by Sunrun. This setup lets the household utilize energy from the EV during peak energy demand, Smart Energy International reported.
The pilot program is the first vehicle-to-home power plant in the U.S. and was funded with grants from the U.S. Department of Energy.
“This program is a significant proof of concept — no other market player has done this — and the goal is to expand these programs all around the country,” Sunrun CEO Mary Powell said in a press release. “This exciting partnership lays the foundation for the power grid of the future where electric vehicle owners can contribute to grid resiliency and utility price stability for everyone. The summer heat can be especially stressful on our power grid, which is why proving the use of stored energy in electric vehicles for capacity is so important.”
The process works by sending energy from the EV batteries to the homes, allowing the vehicle batteries to operate as energy storage. This can complement solar energy sources as well as reduce demand on Maryland’s power grids during peak times. The bidirectional power provided through the charging station can power homes for up to 10 days in the event of an outage, Sunrun said.
For the pilot program, the trucks share energy from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays from June 1 to September 30. The pilot is offering an estimated $800 to participants.
Currently, there are only a limited number of EV models that offer the bidirectional charging feature, including the Nissan Leaf, the 2024 Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models from Hyundai, Kia’s EV6, EV9 and Niro EV, and the Ford F-150 Lightning, Cars.com reported.
More vehicles are expected to introduce bidirectional charging in the coming years, including all GM and Tesla EV models, CNET reported.
Sunrun and BGE are planning to expand the program after monitoring the pilot and will offer incentives for F-150 Lightning owners to join, helping increase grid resilience. The program could also help contribute toward Maryland’s goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2045 and achieve 100% clean electricity by 2035.
