a bit spoilery for both future asks and the game dragon quest xi :)

(also this is kinda long + rambly lol)

so. Jasper (sticking w the name Jasper for simplicity) is literally a character from the game dragon quest xi. “Sarah you’re copying the games char??” kinda sorta. his base looks + personality are from the char, but I did change a lot of things that I didn’t like.

In the game, Jasper is 1. an antagonist 2. childhood friends with Hendrik (who is also from the game) 3. very very very evil. out of jealousy bc Hendrik is a better knight and stuff.

Jasper literally joins the big bad of the game, Mordegon, who’s like this demon wizard dude. (Idk how to explain it, you should play the game.) he turns into this big demon thing and Hendrik (who is originally an antagonist but joins the party later) has to kill him. Hendrik having to kill him broke me. Also they have this lil thing in the switch exclusive game where Hendrik talks to Japsers ghost and jankahjhjshjanbbj They are my everything

Originally I wanted to make a dragon quest ask blog in addition to this blog, but that fandom is kinda dead. So that’s why my gays are here.

Here I could also tweak Jasper’s personality and backstory to my likening! 1. He’s not an antagonist, but he is a jerk 2. Hendrik was a mortal and stood out to Jasper 3. Not evil and not jealous of Hendrik !! Would never join Giratina if he ever wanted to fight Arceus. Also respects Hendrik for becoming a god in the first place 4. He doesn’t die 5. The two can be gay officially! Yippee!

and the in canon lore (bc the game does exist in universe) is that the game’s creator is only using the two’s physical appearances!

TLDR: this method of plucking chars from other media is kinda like me using canon chars in the blog! It helps me make fleshed out chars without having to completely start from scratch !!

Right. A portal shimmers into existence before them, Shall we, then? Hendrik extends his arm to Jasper.

Let us. He takes his arm and spares one last glance at the gala- waving at someone he spoke to- before stepping through.

They step out back onto the beach and change their clothing back to normal.

(Hendrik and Sol have left the gala!)

Sarah! We have returned! Hendrik surveys the beach, but it’s completely empty. That is, save for a note held down by a small rock.

Jasper gently takes the note, reading it aloud.

Hey, guys! You’re probably wondering where we are (understandably). If you look at the horizon from here, you should see a white island. That’s Aether Paradise, where some of my family lives! Hugh and I are currently visiting them, so feel free to swim on over! Also! Tell me all about the gala! Did you guys kiss-

He cuts off the last sentence, his face burning. Hendrik chuckles.

Did you guys kiss?? I need all the juicy details!!! Also, this is important, please try to swim/fly over in more normal pokemon disguises. I really don’t need a scandal about Yveltal and Cobalion on the news, or whatever. Love, Sarah (and Hugh)

Alright then. Hendrik steps into the tide and shifts into his preferred “normal pokemon” disguise, lapras.

Jasper shifts into his preferred form, scizor, and hovers above the water. You know I hate getting wet- my feathers take forever to dry.

Hendrik smiles fondly. Of course. You may also rest on my back, if necessary.

Thank you. He peers into the horizon again, We should start moving. It does not seem far, but I would like to get there soon.

After about half an hour of travel, they linger outside the island.

I will never understand the tenacity of humans. Hendrik fully takes in the island, How is this even possible?

What I do not understand, Jasper glances around at the other islands, Is why they made a new island when there are four other ones that would have functioned perfectly.

He sighs, We should go in. They head into the docks.

Sol’s opinions on Hugh’s kyurem and thunderus!

Kyurem. An empty shell… Sol pauses for a second. I pity them. They are soulless, but I can see why they seem to get along with Hendrik.

Thunderus is an odd pokemon. He seems cold at first but is quite… warm… when you get to know him. Sol smiles, He is great to battle as well.

The Yveltal grins uncertainly, I do not know. Maybe if he wants us to be...

Their lips touch briefly, before they jump apart nervously.

So. How was that?

It was, Hendrik manages a small smile at Jasper, Pleasant.

They stare awkwardly at each other, before leaning in again. The second kiss is significantly longer, the duo only breaking apart to take quick breaths.

The third is aggressive, Hendrik pushing Jasper up against the gazebo’s wall, their kiss seeming more like a battle for dominance. Jasper smirks into it.

Breaking them apart, the Yveltal leans over and whispers into the Cobalion’s ear. My my. I never realized how, his voice lowers, Dominant you are.

Hendrik flushes bright red, not from the Yveltal’s words, but their proximity. And… I never realized that your tongue was pointed.

Well, we all learn something new. He notices movement out of the corner of his eye, and quickly whips his head around.

His face is bright red, even more so when Hendrik notices their, uh, guests. They abruptly separate, making sure they’re not touching at all.

Uh-

Goodbye. Hendrik swiftly leaves the gazebo, his horns reappearing and his clothes still disheveled.

Jasper quickly mutters an apology, while seemingly dying of embarrassment, following Hendrik past the two Giratina into the grounds. Wasn’t one the daughter of the host? Dear Arceus, that’s a way to make a first impression.

The Yveltal looks up from where he was staring into the water. Hendrik. You have steeled yourself, then?

The Cobalion gives a brisk nod, moving to stand beside Jasper. He hesitates, trying to find the most accurate way to phrase his words. I have been… informed… that you might have some… romantic… feelings for me.

The Yveltal blushes and averts Hendrik’s eyes, staring back into the crystal clear water. And… what if I do?

Hendrik is completely silent, for an excruciatingly awkward five minutes. Is it not… wrong for a man to feel this way about another man…?

Jasper laughs, the sound hollow even to his own ears. The world is a much different place nowadays. There are so many things to learn about… like gravity. Has Sarah told you about that?

What in Giratina’s bloody name is “grah-vi-tee”?

Heh, I figured. Jasper shakes his head slightly. The duo are silent for a few seconds. Being romantically involved with someone of the same gender is widely accepted nowadays. He turns to the Cobalion, I mean, even Artemis has a wife.

Oh. Hendrik had never realized that “wife” meant romantic partner. I see.

Jasper holds up his hand, as if to snap his fingers. If being with a man really bothers you, I could simply-

What-?

I am not letting you change your identity. His unsaid words lingered in the air. For me.

Jasper turns back away, his face burning. It would solve our problems-

Kiss me.

The Yveltal whips his head to the Cobalion, whose face is bright red.

I… I want to know what it would be like. With you.

Jasper fully turns to Hendrik, only now noticing how close they’re standing. A-Are you certain-

I have never been more certain. He places a hand on Jasper’s shoulder. Please.

Alright. If that is what you want, my… His voice trails off before the word friend is said. Jasper moves one of his hands to caress Hendrik’s face, noting how the other shivers at the touch. We should… you know. Jasper vaguely gestures to their horns, which abruptly disappear from both their heads.

Hendrik swiftly tosses his gloves to the side and mimics Jasper’s action. Their faces are mere inches apart now… Please. Tell me if you do not want this.

Jasper only smiled in return. How could he not tell him that it was all he’d ever wanted…?

After a hasty (and somewhat apologetic) farewell to the gallade, Hendrik scans the ballroom for Jasper. He spots him pacing around and quickly approaches him.

Jasper!

Ah, Hendrik. What is the matter? You seem more… scattered? Than usual.

I wish to speak to you-

Is that not what we are doing right now? Jasper can’t help but smirk at Hendrik’s annoyed expression.

In private.

The Yveltal nods, patting Hendrik’s shoulder. Ah, if you wanted me to yourself, you need not only ask. His hand trails down Hendrik’s chest suggestively and his grin is… intimate.

R-Right. Hendrik feels his body stiffen and his face heat up slightly. Will that gazebo work? He points out the door and into the grounds.

That is fine with me. He can sense some of Hendrik’s nerves, I shall meet you out there when you’re ready. Jasper strolls out the door, only turning back to send Hendrik a wink.

Hendrik paces slightly, lost in thought. He barely notices when he bumps into someone-

Oh! My sincerest apologies. He stands somewhat awkwardly, hoping that they will start the conversation…

Hm, companions… He hesitates, pondering the Shaymin’s words. Of course there’s Jasper, he smiles slightly at the Yveltal’s name. He has been by my side since I became a god. And, recently, there’s been Sarah, Artemis, and Athena…

He doesn’t notice a zoroark join them until they speak,

The Cobalion lets out a booming laugh, the first laugh anyone at the gala has (most likely) heard from him. I don’t suppose you have met Jasper? He is perfectly capable on his own… Yes, Jasper and I see each other as equals. I am his shield and he is my sword… We fight together, alongside one another…

He glances out at the gazebo, where you can see Jasper alone.

Heh, I do suppose fate has run wild, so to speak. He grins at the Lugia, I do indeed represent death, and, be quite honest with you? While I hate the ferrying of souls, I do not mind the title… I do hope that makes sense…? He sighs. It is not a hard job, I do not do much honestly, he chuckles to himself. It is more of a subconscious thing, I suppose. He pauses for a second or two. But it is quite the dark one. I do wish I had a flashier role, say, the god of battles? But Athena does have that so nicely covered.

wait, Jasper, how come you know all about things that happened to Luna? Did she tell you who she talked to?

Hmm, not quite. The Yveltal grins, You see, all “groups” of us legendary pokemon share a mental link. Whenever someone in the group has strong emotions or thoughts, it’s spread to the others. Luna was constantly thinking about the people and pokemon she met, so Proteus and I both learned about them.

A rudimentary example of this bond would be if I, hypothetically, was in a foul mood. This mood would spread to the others. It would not make them as angry as I would be, but it would dampen their own moods.

We do have a “defense” against this, a variety of a mental shield.

Speaking of thoughts and whatnot, I have been receiving quite a few transmissions from Artemis and Proteus that I have been ignoring. Maybe I should listen to them…

Finally!

That took you quite some time.

What do you two need? I am quite busy!

Yeah. Busy mingling and partying.

There is the mental equivalent of a sigh from Artemis.

Listen. We’re asking you to pleeaase put up the mental shield!

You keep thinking about Hendrik. It is interrupting our own thoughts.

What Proteus is trying to say, is that you should keep those thoughts to yourself.

Jasper puts up the mental shield, his face flaming bright red. He takes a quick look around the gala, making sure no one sees his embarrassment. Thank Arceus that the thoughts are limited to the trio.

(@borealis-siblings) Venus begins thinking deeply about something to the point of finally asking. She approaches Jasper in a sort of hurry.

"Sorry if this is a bit random Jasper- But.. I just realized that Luna and Hendrik call you by Jasper, but Sarah and Hugh call you by Sol.. I'd there a reason for this? And, do you have a preference by which name you liked to be called by?"

Ah, we meet again. He grins at the espeon, Do not fret over my name. Sol is simply a… what’s the mortal term? A nickname? He thinks for a second or two, Yes… that’s it. As for which one, either is fine. I would prefer that you called me Sol in front of Sarah and Hugh. If they went through the efforts of creating a nickname, might as well put it to use, no? He laughs.

(@the-third-shadow) Nid @ Jasper: "My, my, so many Yveltal around here~" they chirped, approaching Jasper with a curious glint in their eyes. "You seem to at least be enjoying yourself. Probably better than being holed up asleep somewhere, hm?"

They tilted their head.

"Though it is odd seeing an Yveltal palling around with a Cobalion. If only because it makes me want to know why you two are the only ones here. I heard you mention your counterpart Xerneas--- Artemis, was it? What about your Zygarde? Oh! Or do you even have a counterpart Zygarde?"

Ha, I am indeed enjoying myself. I do not “hole myself up,” as you said, but I spend a lot of my time ferrying souls and spirits. It is nice to relax…

Ah, as for my universe’s Zygarde, there are multiple. I do believe that only one, the one mortals call “10%,” is considered my counterpart. Proteus is a busybody, they probably would’ve hated being cooped up here, he chuckles. I do think they could’ve attended if they wanted to, since they are merely the god of shapeshifting, but I digress. He pauses to think for a second. Assuming you meant the “complete” Zygarde, xey are way to busy to attend. As the god of order, it has much work to do… As for Artemis, he smiles, she is no socialite either. She despises parties and attention of most sorts. She originally had the invitation to this gala, but turned it down to spend more time with Sarah.

Ekatzia@Jasper Kat approached Jasper with high energy and grinned at him. "Wow! Those are some cool markings on your arm! Are they tattoos???" She asked excitedly.

Ahaha! You have quite the eye. They are indeed meant to mimic mortal’s tattoos, but since this form is only a mere projection, I can do things like this. Jasper closes his eyes for a few seconds.

“Cool,” isn’t it? He closes his eyes and freezes the tattoos once again.
