i have literally no idea what song you're talking about but okay, buckle up, long semi unhinged rant abt letters ahead!

so. the alphabet. what a concept. we learn it, we love it, blah blah blah. let's not get into the history here, just accept the latin a-z modern alphabet with it's 26 letters. well. some countries have more than 26 letters. many countries have extra letters (usually existing letters with addendums) which have their own unique sounds and are learned as if they were their own unique letters (which they are!) but not officially part of the alphabet. why? eh, varies. some languages have so many extras to so many letters that it simply would be too much of a trouble to separate what are unique letters and what are pronounciation guides. some probably have other reasons. i mean, some countries have 26 letter simply because of tradition (ask any swede to say the alphabet and they'll miss w 99% of the time, because it's a completely surperflous letter which should stop existing in our alphabet and just file under v. but whatever).

anyway. some countries have extra letters. german have ä, ö and ü, which are learned as their own letter bc of their unique sounds, but are filed under a, o and u in the dictionary. scandinavia have å, ��/æ and ö/ø, and they are treated as separate letters in the alphabet, which gives our alphabets 29 letters (should be 28 but WHATEVER). they have completely unique sounds in our languages, so why should they be treated as anything but unique letters? please note that ä and æ are literally the same letters. same with ö and ø

and here. HERE is where i get emotional: the differences in how and why sweden and denmark+norway write their "extra" letters

for as long as people have had writing, we have changed how we write. fonts are nothing new. every day we read three completely different looking version of the letter a without batting an eye. the way letters look are constantly evolving. and once upon a time in the 1500's there was a style called fraktur developed in germany. nothing new under the sun, someone wanted a font that looked cool, the style continued to develop alongside the "normal" looking latin alphabet, and eventually fraktur was seen as obsolete and phased out. but one thing fraktur was very good at, was combining letters into one to save space. it made sense for letters that was often written next to each other to make certain sounds to be written as one symbol. in fraktur there is a symbol that means tz, there is one that means ck, one that meant sz and so on... and some combos stuck. the symbol that simply was a space saving mashup of s and z eventually became the german letter ß (which is now being phased out afaik). however... fraktur wasn't the first style to do this. we already had æ

at some point, someone in germany decided that you know what? æ and œ actually still takes up unnecessary space. we want them to be even more compact; out with the middle ages, in with the new. we have a writing style that is so fucking good at mashing up letters and we don't like how someone else have done that already, we want to be the best. the best way to do this was apparently by looking at another old way of giving letters unique sounds by drawing lines above them, and modernized it by put e above o and a. like just. a teeny tiny e floating above a and o. which sweden thought was kinda cool looking. we were a very modern and cool country after all. this eventually resulted in people writing two lines or dots above them rather than a full on e, which became the ä and ö we know and love today. but in denmark and norway people apparently was fine with the way æ looked (or they were just really really conservative and didn't want to throw out a several hundred year old letter), but they agreed that œ was a waste of space, but that swedes were tools for following germany, and they came up with their own solution by shoving the letters together completely. e overlayed on o became ø. æ stayed as æ. and then all three of us turned our heads to germany and said "but you know what? we DO have a sound which kinda sorta sounds like aa or ao, but we have no way of really writing that beside á which could also have other sounds which just makes things kinda confusing. and germany do actually have a neat little thing going on with the lil' e on top of another letter. should we maybe... invent the letter å?" and then we did

and i just find it beautiful how swedish, norweigan and danish, three languages that are so close they would be dialects if we weren't separate countries, looked at the same unique sounds which we wrote in the same way, and said hey. let's make them into proper letters. and then we solved it in two completely separate ways.

literal moments before this: a group of people in the crowd suddenly started chanting for miles to play standing next to me. he acknowledged it for a moment with the hint of a nostalgic/wistful smile, and then proceeded to level us all with reactionary, wry, raised-eyebrows look and launched immediately into see ya when i see ya instead. and this isn’t even my milex brain talking (the girl next to me literally went “oh wow”), the way he did it was genuinely SO loud. like it was an unmistakeable expression that so clearly showed he feels something about those two songs is inherently connected. it was such a from-the-gut, instinctive response and it spoke VOLUMES. i wish wish WISH i'd managed to catch it on video because i know my description is not doing it justice at all, but trust me. it really packed a punch. like there was this reminder of the most popular puppets song from the crowd (and one that’s particularly associated with all their milex antics at that) , and then this visceral expression from miles of "yeah, none of that anymore" or "look at where we are now" as he introduced see ya when i see ya. there were just. SO many emotional layers. and like yes, i know it's sort of an open secret that see ya when i see ya might be about alex and their creative/personal relationship, but god. this really felt so close to an open admission that that’s the case.

So, when I called the Sonic movies "Gendered Marketing: The Movie" I'm basically saying, it's so so so clear that these movies are intended to be Boy Movies for Boys, which personally I coulda sworn we had collectively grown past as a culture? But I guess not.

That's why there's no female Sonic characters in these movies, or hardly any women to begin with vs how many men there are. It's "Boy Movie," and boys don't like girls because girls have cooties. So they believe, truly, that introducing Amy or Rouge or Cream or Blaze isn't going to help them get butts in seats.

I'd say it depends on the person, but for me it's a sense of "wow I wish I was able to present like that" or "I wish I looked like that" while knowing that I don't due to facts outside of my control (body type, facial structure, etc). I don't pass as a male so when I see people who can at least pass as androgynous that's when the "envy" kicks in. It's more of a lighthearted thing for me though since it's pretty much only directed towards fictional characters lol, I don't particularly care that I don't pass.

Eddie may not have said that he is straight on screen but Ryan has said it in interviews. I don't think he would call Eddie straight if it wasn't true. He would leave it unsaid like Oliver did regarding Buck's sexuality.

I’ve said this several times - but I will say it again. Actors don’t know what direction their characters storylines are going to take - they can only speak for where there character is at at the moment of the interview they are giving. So an actor saying a character is straight means very little - Oliver referred to Buck as straight in interviews in the past - and look where Buck is now!

Plus Ryan has started using gender neutral pronouns in interviews and has talked about his delight at people from all demographics finding things in Eddie that has helped them - and that includes queer people. Ryan also has stated on multiple occasions that he is very much up for queer Eddie and buddie - if the show wants to go in that direction. we have enough subtext and foreshadowing in canon to make the conversations around Eddies sexuality valid. i would also point out that we know that Eddie was going to be the one getting a queer arc in s7 - but that they had to change it to Buck due to the availability of various actors, so to suggest that we are all reading too much into things - when we have plenty of evidence to validate our conversations is disingenuous. you don’t have to engage in those conversations - you can filter, block or scroll past stuff - and leave those of us who do want to speculate and enjoy discussing possible storylines for characters such as Eddie to do so.

We are talking about fictional people remember and so we can discuss whatever we want to discuss about them - it’s literally the purpose of fandom!

like with Sylus, it was more of a sense of being overwhelmed with having to keep up with now 4 love leads and not being able to anticipate what he was going to be like because all we knew about him was that he’s the big bad of onychinus and that he’s the enemy having us be unsure of how the dynamic between him and MC was going to tie together and how it was to be played out along the way. however, thankfully infold made me eat my words on this part.

as for Caleb, how are they going to write themselves out of the house being blown up and all that jazz? also to me, his dynamic with MC is so… sibling like from the very beginning (yes, they are not blood related but were raised together by evil granny still with the understanding that they are family??)

although yes, he did kind of hint at the whole “if you were facing issues all this time, why didn’t you come to me for help” thing seeming to hold back on saying what he really feels but ma’am, it was giving more of a concerned older brother vibe then a love lead (again, yes. i know MC’s memory of the boys and their various lives are all jumbled up and messy to her with the boys not being able to be themselves around her and revealing the truth due to complications with the timelines and that we have to go through the entire story and all that nonetheless!!) i’m still not that convinced??

Did James trust Remus during the Frist war?

(Not an analysis, that might come at some point but certainly not rn)

for me the not trusting Remus thing always fell really flat

One of the absolute canonical thing we know about Jame sis that he had a lot of loyalty

Also like while we're not given an exact date we know that James gave Remus a monthly allowance which is not something you give to someone you think is on the side of the fuy trying to kill you

As for him not knowing, I think there are multiple ways Remus would have not ended up knowing:

He was not the secret keeper, and was not a part of the ruse.

We have no idea when exactly the switch occurs, so it could have happened just a bit b4 Jily's murder; even if it was planned in advance

The only people who knew were Jily (the ones going in hiding), Sirius (the original Secret keeper and the one who suggested the switch) and Peter (the final secret keeper)

We also don't know exactly when Sirius brought the idea up, but if I remember correctly he was the secret keeper at some point so the switch happened after that.

Most people didn't know where Jily were hiding, so it's not even singling Remus out, they just kinda cut contact with everyone other than sirius and Peter, likely any communications done b/w Jily, Harry and Remus were done b/w Sirius.

We know for a fact that Remus was distant and secretive due to his mission, and as Sirius suspected hi it's more than likely that he semi-shut himself out from his friends

It's possible that his Sirius, Lily and Peter convinced him to hide it from everyone not a direct part of the ruse

I doubt James would have been busy trying to fight with Sirius (Who the traitor was/was not is a ery serious topic during the middle of the war, for obvi reasons) constantly over it

It's even possible that James asked them to tell Remus, but they didn't (there wasn't much James could do about this)

It's likely that Remus was extremely low contact to the point where it wouldn't have made sense (they trusted Peter completely) It is possible, if not very likely, that they did try and contact Remus but couldn't resulting in him never finding out

What with being on a secret werewolf mission thing, Remus might not have been easy to find

He might not even have been around to be told, and it's very unlikely Peter would have sent him a letter explaining anything (Jily and Harry's safety would be compromised very easily with it)

James probabaly didn't have much of a choice on who to tell and who to keep it a secret from. Sure, he, Harry and Lily were the ones getting protected, but Sirius and Peter were also in this, so it might have been their call

James wouldn't have told someone if Sirius (and likely Peter bc he wouldve preferred them doubting Remus than him) was uncomfortable with it.

Remus likely was acting sus so James migt not have thought he was the traitr but decided to let it go, esp bc it would have helped Sirius feel better.

They told no one about this except for those directly connceted, including DUMBLEDORE, the literal guy Voldy feared, so, esp with Harry's life on the line, they probs wanted to keep it all minimum to keep Harry safe and reduced the chance of someone finidng the plan out (someone meaning death eaters)

I think it's cool that everyone has different designs for mythological characters. I love seeing the variety!! Those that lean more abstract and those that lean more realistic are equally awesome. It's fun seeing the way people incorporate symbols or traits associated with that character in unique ways.

Basically: the absence of physical descriptors (e.g. eye/hair/skin colour, height, etc.) has the silver lining of getting to see how other people envisage those characters (often drawing on the themes in the myths/sources themselves), instead of adhering strictly to a set of guidelines and stifling the creative process before it even starts. I think that is something worth celebrating and supporting <3
