i would like to imagine that after machete dies, vasco starts collecting red things. red, like the soles of machetes shoes and the hems of his cassocks, the front of his nightgowns after a heavy nosebleed. or maybe he collects pink things, like machete's nose and ears and paw pads, or things white like his fur. he never collects anything black, however. red like the hems but never black like the fabric. black is too sad. it's grief, it's unfathomable loss and it means admitting machete is actually gone, stolen from the world. but ludovica is there, and she indulges his collections in little ways on the occasion. it's a small comfort, her love for her husband in their lavender way.

Hello!! I'm a huge fan of your art and I thought I would ask about your colorwork, because it's genuinely super impressive to me how all your pieces have amazing palettes and they add so so so much to the general atmosphere. Do you have any process to pick colors for pieces? Like using picture references, gradient maps, etc or do you genuinely just eyeball them? I'm super curious :]

Thanks! I very much use references, though I don't use the color picker on them, gotta train the eye. I have an ever-expanding reference folder of photos and paintings with colors that I like so that when I start a new painting and I have an idea of the color scheme I want in mind, I'll already have some reference on hand. Good reference really makes a world of difference!

I also like to bias colors a little bit away from their standard versions:

The more blue green and the more yellow green are both more interesting to me than the "just green" green. Nothing wrong with that average green though, sometimes that's exactly what you need. It's always situational.

Lastly, a fantastic color tip for digital art specifically that I got from Mike Hernandez: Use the RGB sliders instead of the HSB color selection!

By default, Photoshop gives you the HSB (Hue, Saturation, Brightness) color picking setup which looks like this:

It's perfectly functional and has its uses, but it doesn't really feel like mixing color. On the other hand, if you use the RGB sliders:

Now you can add a little more blue if you think that's what the color needs, or you can take away red, add some green, etc. It gets you actually mixing color and thinking more about how the colors relate to each other. It can take some getting used to if you've only used the HSB setup before, but it's worth it!

-actually im kinda stealing this from gtlive (sorry mirror matt) but since sparky's is kinda just full of regulars and townfolk, whenever someone new comes in ness will completely invent a new personality. tourist asks what he studied and he's like "archeology, i actually went to egypt last year and we uncovered a tomb" or a family comes in and he puts on a bit of a southern twang and starts dropping "yall's" (that theater major is really coming in handy)

-his coworkers are used to it by now. idk i just feel like ness is the kinda guy you can't help but be endeared by. he's friendly, he's charming, he's bright

-actually wait that could be a meet cute. abby and mike come in one day and he assumes they're just passing by town so he makes up this whole personality. except they keep coming back. and ness maybe perhaps also thinks mike is quite cute and once he finds out abby isnt his daughter he wants to shoot his shot but he also doesn't even know where to begin explaining that everything mike knows about him is a lie (miscommunication trope i guess?)

-omg ness probably heard about the mall incident. one day he’s talking to mike and he’s like “I remember one day hearing about a mall security who beat up this kid’s father! Isn’t that wild?” meanwhile mike is like, “haha yeah that’s wild” and he’s sweating bullets lmao

-kinda explored this dynamic in the baking fic (shameless self promo) but ness and abby get along swell! almost too well in mike's opinion. he might be a little jealous since abby doesn't always listen to him (sibling dynamic) but ness says it and suddenly abby's like "great idea!"

Price: He’s in heaven with you. Price adores physical affection since it’s quite the stark contrast from what he’s usually used to. It’s not uncommon for him to initiate physical affection either. As seen in the games, he pats his soldiers on their shoulders fairly often, so he’s definitely not above giving you a bear hug either. But if you start it? Oh, you’ll never be rid of him. You can hug him, snuggle him, pat him, he’s very compliant. But he will repay your loving kindness by showing you some physical affection of his own. For every hug you give him, you will be hugged twice as long. For every kiss you give him you will be kissed back twice. Will sometimes fight you on who gets to be the big spoon, though. He loves holding you, it’s a privilege that he likes to think only he gets. Won’t ever complain about you holding him, though. It’s nice to feel your warmth against his back. It’s kind of difficult to fluster him since he’s hopelessly in love with you. As concerned as he might grow if he catches you, he’d be so enamored with you if you shed a tear or two because you love him so much. That would be one of the only times you could render him actually speechless. As long as you keep being touchy with him, he’ll be touchy with you. It’s not unlikely for the two of you to hang onto each other as if the world would fade if you didn’t. Neither of you mind, though.

Rodolfo: Unlike Price, he’s very easy to fluster. If you stare at him for too long, with a goofy grin on your face, the most lovestruck expression as you hold his face in your hands, he’s a goner. He’ll avoid eye contact, he’ll curse in his mind as well. You’re just too cute. How could he ever have gotten a husband as lovely as you? Wants to hug you and bury his face in your shoulder so bad so you won’t see how flustered he is. Will likely do just that as well. But other than that, he actually loves how touchy you are. There’s just something so soothing about you touching him. Holding his hand, hugging him, running your fingers through his hair. Has probably fallen asleep to that more than once. You’re just such a loving and lovely husband. He wants to bask in the glory that is your gentle touch. He craves it so much, it’s not even funny. Sometimes, he’ll ask you if you can be the big spoon since he loves being the little spoon. You would never judge him for that, he knows that much, and for that he’s grateful. Not as lenient with kisses as you are, though. Pepper his face in them and he’ll get flustered. Once he gives you a kiss back, you’ll likely make a face like this 😊 while he just looks away. Farah: She’s a strong and resilient woman, who knows what she wants and needs. She may seem like she’s got everything under control, but she’s actually so touch starved, it’s not even funny. Although she may have a reputation, she’s not above clinging to her lovely husband like a koala when you’re alone. You clinging onto her while you’re cuddling makes her feel like the strong person out of the two of you, though. She can’t exactly tell you why, but it’s kind of like the thing where a bunny gets licked and is thus the dominant bunny. Although she may not ask for the physical affection, she receives it anyway, and for that she’s grateful. Good luck trying to fluster her, though. She doesn’t fluster easily and will always try to one up you, trying to fluster you instead. She can be quite the witty woman, she can also be quite the romantic, so she’ll most definitely succeed at some point. Gives you many kisses in return since you seem to be very keen on them. Always hugs you back. Will sometimes face you while cuddling so she can be tucked away safely under your chin. Although receiving affection from you is a sign of her dominance for her, she will sometimes show you affection as well. This is also a sign of her dominance. Even if you’re much taller than her, she’ll sometimes pull you down to her level so you can bury your face in her shoulder. As much as she loves being the object of your affection, she wants to give you something in return as well. Life is a constant give and take, after all.

Nikolai: You cannot fluster this man, I’m sorry. You could call him the most embarrassing nicknames, you could treat him like the most dainty, fragile princess out there and he won’t bat an eye. He’s been through too much to be fazed by anything at this point. Whether or not he’s a touchy guy is entirely dependent on you. And since you’re a very touchy feely man, he is too. Not as much as you are, but he’ll pull you closer to him by your waist, he’ll kiss the crown of your head, he’ll hold your hand. Will battle you for dominance, though. You’re being affectionate with him? You’re trying to hold him? Are you sure about that? This man has been a soldier for most of his life, he can fight. And if he needs to playfully fight you for the privilege of being the big spoon, he will. You need to see him as a reliable and strong man, so he will provide you with physical affection as well. You may try to put his head on your chest, but it won’t be there for too long before your head is on his chest. It’s a matter of pride to him as well. Loves how physically affectionate you are, though. Adores it when you give him a million kisses wherever you can reach. He’ll just sit still and let you before trapping you in a big bear hug. He’s so glad he’s married a man like you. There’s no one he’d rather be with.

Had no idea bloodhounds were an actual dog breed! They're called St-Hubert dog in my language. Why? I do not know lol.

Sorry it didn't end up looking much like a bloodhound, I am not very used to draw dogs with flews. TT But absolutely loved the idea.
