The insistence on portraying Severus’ love for Lily as “creepy” and “incel-ish” is so strange because there’s just no basis for it in the text. Every single headcanon about him stalking her or using legilimens on her when they were teenagers is OOC fanfic. The most they can tear their fucking ligaments stretching for in canon is to say Severus standing outside Lily’s dorm room to APOLOGIZE (when she’s the one who left him to be physically abused by multiple people while unarmed) is “violating boundaries”. Which is real rich from people who find James trying to blackmail Lily into going on a date with him after she’s repeatedly said “No” charming. Apparently when it’s conventionally attractive neurotypical rich boys breaking sexual and romantic boundaries it’s “cute”. When hooked-nosed, greasy-black haired, neurodivergent-coded poor boys have any (possibly) unrequited feelings for an innocent pure little white girl, it’s predatory and disgusting by default. Hmm… nothing to read into there!
Also, the books never even confirm that Severus was romantically in love with Lily, that’s commonly inferred but you can definitely read it as Lily was just his first real friend. Friendship is consistently the most important relationship in the series, Lily is to Severus what Ron and Hermione are to Harry. Was he in love with her? Probably. If their friendship hadn’t broken up, I’m sure they would’ve ended up married because there was tension from both sides for sure. But his devotion to her memory after she was dead I believe had far more to do with the friendship they had than any romantic relationship he may have wanted. And an “incel” is a member of misogynistic hate groups or a man who responds to rejection with violence, they see women as purely objects who owes him sex. No incel on Earth would risk his life and do a job he hates out of honor, love, and loyalty to a woman he will never be able to have sex with except in the afterlife, learn what words mean.

SNILY!!!
Tumblr media
Artwork credit to @barnbeatle. This lovely artwork is featured in Chapter II - Returning to Lessons.
And here's a little Snily moment from Chapter XV - Brands and Bonds of The Prince's Pact.
Enjoy!

“Snivellus,” Black said with a sneer as they approached. “How thoroughly unpleasant seeing you first thing in the morning.”
“Have you seen Lily?”
“You think I would tell you if I had?”
“We haven’t seen her,” Lupin said.
“Then I’ll wait.” Severus moved to stand against the wall, giving Black and Lupin plenty of space to pass him.
“What do you need to see Evans for so badly?” The boys were now right in front of him.
“It’s private.”
“You’re not winning any points with me, Snivellus. I don’t like the idea of a Slytherin waiting in this corridor to ambush someone.”
“I’m not going to ambush anyone. I’m merely waiting here.”
“Come on, Sirius.” Lupin started tugging at Black’s sleeve. “Lily can handle herself. And if anyone else gets hexed, we’ll know exactly who to come for.”
Severus rolled his eyes. But the portrait hole had swung open again, and Lily herself climbed out the hole.
“Lily!” Severus pushed past Black and Lupin, as he and Lily collided in the middle of the corridor, for she had evidently come running when she saw him. He wrapped her in a tight hug and felt her arms tight around him as well.
“What the hell, Lily?” said Black.
But his voice sounded very far away—wrapped around Lily, Severus’ mind was a placid sea. All the horrible thoughts he’d in bed that morning were swept away. This was exactly right, and he was exactly where he was supposed to be.

You can read the work in it's entirely on AO3. :)

Im not a Snily shipper but… seeing your post, I think Lily would’ve been happier with Severus than James… he wouldn’t have knocked her up at 19 IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUCKING WAR. Severus seems more mindful than that.
I don’t think Lily and Severus would have ever worked as a couple because she never saw him that way, and Severus clung to her as an attachment figure due to his emotional deficiencies. They had very different ambitions and interests, and honestly, they were incompatible. Lily wanted to change Severus, and you can’t change people—you either love them (platonically or romantically) with all their flaws, unconditionally, or you don’t love them at all. And Severus didn’t really love Lily either; he loved an idealized version of her.
I actually think Lily and James were perfect for each other, but not for the reasons their fans say. They both benefited from the relationship: Lily helped James reinforce his image as a progressive pureblood wizard advocating for the rights of the oppressed since she was Muggle-born, and James elevated Lily from the bottom of the magical social hierarchy to the elite. They both liked being popular, they liked being admired, and they liked people thinking they were the golden couple.
That being said, I still think getting pregnant by your high school boyfriend at 19 is a massive mistake and an irresponsibility of epic proportions. Those relationships always end in disastrous divorces before 30. XD

The Little Prince
If you love a flower that lives on a star, it's sweet, at night, to look at the sky.
All the stars are abloom with flowers.
//
C’est comme pour la fleur. Si tu aimes une fleur qui se trouve dans une étoile, c’est doux, la nuit, de regarder le ciel.
Toutes les étoiles sont fleuries.

The Sneep, Desperately trying to explain things to Lily:
Tumblr media
He's trying so hard to make her understand why Remus Lupin must be a werewolf, but it's just not happening. (Ironically, he's so disheveled, he ends up looking more like a werewolf than Lupin.)
BONUS: The Sneep, Enthusiastically trying to explain Dementors to Lily once upon a time

Unpopular opinion #2
Severus wasn't in love with Lily.
He had an unhealthy emotional attachment towards her because she was his first friend, the first person ever to be nice to him and whom he could trust. There isn't a single paragraph or sentence in the canon material that implies his feelings for her were romantic, beyond the patronus thing, and that doesn't necessarily mean it was romantic.
She was his best friend, they grew up together, and Severus' life outside of her was miserable (abusive parents, bullying, bigoted housemates, the death eater cause grooming him), so it makes perfect sense he thinks of her to cast a patronus. His only happy memories were probably with her.
She was his family, his anchor, and I dare to say, his sister. And when she died because of the prophecy he overheard, he felt like he killed her himself. He condemned the only person who ever cared about him.
That's why I can't stand the common interpretation of Snape as this lovesick/simp/obsessed stalker in memes and fanon stuff. He literally said it himself, in the books:
"I thought we were friends? Best friends?"
He didn't sound disappointed, or sad, or bothered. He was stating the truth of what he felt. He wanted Lily as his friend, nothing more. And like any normal person, he was broken when he lost her.

I'm pretty sure that JKR has commented that if he hadn't turned to the DEs, Lily might have fallen in love with Sev - I ship them romantically, but I still think it would've been very hard for them to last, even in a world with no Voldy. they both come across as a having Tempers lol
Yes, they said it, and I think it’s absurd. It implies that if Severus had put aside part of his interests—and therefore part of his personality—then Lily would have accepted him. It reinforces the outdated idea that if someone truly loves you, they’ll change for you. And I’m completely against that idea because I find it dangerous, toxic, and superficial.
No one should have to change who they are or set aside their interests and passions to attract someone or make a relationship work. If the baggage you carry doesn’t sit well with the other person, then that person doesn’t truly like you, period—because your baggage is part of who you are, and you can’t just give up or hide a part of yourself. There will be someone out there who doesn’t mind your baggage or knows how to deal with it—someone you actually fit with. If you have to change to fit together, then you don’t truly fit.
So yeah, I only see Platonic!Snily. And as I said in my last response, I have no issue with the romantic ship because everyone ships what they want and has their own interpretation of things, and as long as it’s not a problematic pairing, I have zero problems. But I just don’t see it, and I never have, because to me, it would be a highly dysfunctional relationship.

Severus - weird Slytherin boi, zero social skill, unnaturally talented at making enemies, completely crushing on a Gryffindor girl.
