With the festive season just around the corner,
We consider ourselves lucky to have the immense creative invention and skill of Bettina Reeves and Mayumi Takahagi to hand make all of our wonderful, bespoke Christmas decorations each year. They have been helping us since 2018 and each year have added to the themed decorations throughout the public areas and in our private function rooms.
From a beautiful Christmas tree made from swathes of glorious green fabric, silken pom poms and twinkling lights to a Havana-style Rum Shack in the Ballroom Bar, prancing hares, dainty robins, wise snowy owls and gold frosted wreaths made from entirely natural foraged materials, they have really allowed their imaginations to run wild and created some truly magical Festive displays for us.
Our first Bettina and Mayumi tree in production, 2018.
Finished tree in the foyer at The Angel, 2018.
The Rum Shack, created for Havana Nights parties, 2019.
A parliament of owls, 2020/2021.
Hares prancing in the Cellar, 2018.
A couple of weeks ago, Bettina and Mayumi held a decoration making workshop that staff and other helpers were invited to attend.
It was a lovely day, we sat together in the Ballroom and learnt how to make the beautiful birdsa and stars that adorn the displays in December.
We thought it was a shame to keep this all to ourselves and have written this exclusive guide to enable you to make decorations just like ours at home.
How to make an embroidered Christmas star decoration;
What you will need;
Felt in any colour you choose, we used white for our stars
Thin wadding
Embroidery needle and thread, again in any colour of your choice
Sequins for decoration
A4 sheet of card
Step 1
Cut a star shape, roughly 12cm diameter from the A4 sheet of card, this will be your guide for cutting out the shape of your decoration.
Step 2
Using the card star shape as your guide, cut out 2 star shapes from the felt and 1 from the thin wadding. Then, line up the 3 stars with the wadding in between the 2 felt stars
Step 3
Starting at one of the internal corners, blanket stitch all the way around the outside of the star in the coloured thread of your choice. Make sure to remember to split your embroidery thread strands so you have only 2 or 3
Step 4
Once you have stitched all the way around the outside of your star you are ready to get creative with decoration, use different coloured threads, sequins, beads or any other bits you like to create patterns on both sides of your star. Using a water erasable marker pen for guidance can be helpful, or chalk.
See the images below for some inspiration.
Step 5
Use the needs to thread a thicker length of embroidery thread or ribbon through one of the stars points for hanging and tie it in a knot.
Step 6
Hang it in pride of place on your Christmas tree!
Once you have mastered the simple star shape, you may want to move on to other shapes such as birds, see some photos below of bird shapes have embroidered for decorations too…
Here is a sheet to print for an easy guide to follow at home...
Tag us on social media to be in with a chance of winning an exclusive Angel Hotel Festive Season 2023 mug and tea towel set designed by Alexis Snell. Winners will be chosen on 23rd December 2023.

How to Tie a Snell Knot for Fishing — Fishing Fetch
Understanding the Snell Knot
Before we delve into the tying process, let’s understand what a snell knot is and why it is beneficial for fishing. The snell knot is a specialized knot that allows the hook to be positioned at a right angle to the line, resulting in better hooksets and increased strength. This knot is handy when using live bait, as it helps prevent the appeal from sliding up the shank of the hook.
Step-by-Step Guide to Tying a Snell Knot
Step 1: Gather your materials To tie a snell knot, you will need a fishing hook, fishing line, and a pair of pliers (optional but recommended).
Step 2: Thread the line through the eye of the hook Pass the tag end (the end of the line) through the eye of the hook from front to back, leaving a few inches of line extending beyond the hook.
Step 3: Create a loop Form a loop with the tag end of the line, making sure it is on the same side as the hook.
Step 4: Wrap the loop around the shank Take the loop and wrap it around the shank of the hook. Make sure to keep the wraps tight and close together. The number of wraps can vary depending on the size of the hook and the strength of the line, but 5–7 wraps are generally sufficient.
Step 5: Pass the tag end through the loop Insert the tag end through the loop you created in Step 3, ensuring that it passes through the loop closest to the eye of the hook.
Step 6: Tighten the knot Hold onto the tag end and the main line, and gently pull them in opposite directions to tighten the knot. Make sure the wraps remain snug against the hook's shank as you tighten.
Step 7: Trim the excess Using a pair of pliers or scissors, trim the excess tag end close to the knot, leaving just a small tail.
Tips and Tricks for Tying a Snell Knot
Wetting the knot with water or saliva before tightening it can help reduce friction and ensure a secure knot.
Practice tying the snell knot before heading out for your fishing trip to build confidence and proficiency.
Experiment with different hook sizes and types of fishing lines to determine the optimal combination for your fishing needs.
If you’re using a monofilament line, consider using a line conditioner or silicone spray to reduce friction and improve the knot’s strength.
Conclusion
By mastering the snell knot, you’ll have a reliable and effective method for attaching hooks to your fishing line. The strength and positioning of this knot will help increase your hook-up and landing rates, giving you an edge on your fishing adventures. Remember to practice tying the knot until you can do it confidently and efficiently. With time and experience, you’ll become proficient in tying the snell knot and reap the benefits of this versatile fishing knot.

He Wolf
-
Chapter: 1 of?
Pairing: Arthur Morgan & Josiah Trelawny (mentioned)
Rating: Teen and up audience (talking about hot stuff)
Tags: Werwolf Arthur, escape from hunters, thinking
-
I started this Oneshot (and probably some two shot) Os book about the Van Der Linde Gang. It's mostly about smut. Feel free to read it :) It's on archive of our own. My name: Hosea_Matthews_Hoe_2
-
Arthur is breathing hard. He's hiding in a small cave nobody else noticed luckily. He has to shift into his much "smaller" human form to even fit trough the caves entrance. And even that was almost impossible and a way to tight fit. He let himself sink down the cold but smooth stone wall, until he sit on his behind. He can still hear and smell the hunters sent and what they're talking. Even though they went straight, while he managed to take a left turn and sneak into that cave. Being a Werwolf is not easy at all! But Arthur still love it. It let himself feel free when he run. When the wind blow trough bis thick sand colored fur, when he fell the grass or dirt under his huge paws, when he simply can forget everything, and can fully focus on all smells and sounds of all the animals and people walking, driving on a wagon or riding arround.
The feeling luckily never get old. He's 36 today and it still feel like he's doing it the first time. Whenever he shift back to human form after a successful run, the burden and all that he went trough immideatly fall back on his shoulders. Sometimes he's do energetic and happy in his wolf form, that he's sometimes afraid to just lift of abd magically fly away. Arthur always giggle at that thought. He's a fucking wolf and not a bird! But sometimes stupid hunters destroy his peaceful runs or trips. He's a huge wolf with bright yellow eyes. He's at least five or six times bigger and taller than a normal wolf. No, his height is about as high as a Shire horse. And he's big in width too. Just like in his human form. All muscles. He's simply beautiful. And that's why hunters want him. That's Arthur's only problem. That he's so big that you can't oversee him.
The gang knows about his secret. At first they were scared. Specially John. But they all got used to it. And now they think it's cool. He told them six years ago. He was so afraid that they all will call him a monster and throw him out. But they were simply shocked and a bit afraid. Nothing more. They wasn't so afraid, that they wanted to throw him out immideatly. Luckily. Hosea was the first who trusted Arthur again. Who was himself again around Arthur. He's glad about that. Hosea is like his father. He practically raised him. Yes Dutch too. But at the latest as Micah joined, Arthur noticed that Hosea is a much better mentor and father to him then Dutch is. Dutch is more like his best friend and Boss. And the age gap between Hosea and Arthur is way more realistic too. In his 36 years of life, it's the fifth time hunters come after him. But he's way to fast for them. And even with his size, he manage to sneak away or hide somewhere without them noticing. It always ends that Arthur win. Always. And he's glad about it. But his senses are really helpful. He see, smell and hear as good as a wolf does. That's his luck. He can even smell how a human is feeling. Like angst, sadness, nervousness, anger and so on. He smell it on their scent. He can even smell when somebody is horny. And that fact he hate the most. Sure he can head people moaning in the hotels even if they try their best to muffle their sounds. But Snelling it too is even worse.
But for him, being a Werwolf, has much pros and less contras. Due to being a Werwolf, he knots whenever he cums. Abd until now, he don't figure out if the knot is a pro or a contra. Eliza was first Afraid of it. But as Arthur knotted her for the first time, and filled her belly with Isaac, she startet to love it. Mary on the other hand, never accepted his knot. She never accepted that he's an Outlaw and Werwolf. That's the most part why their relationship broke. But now, now, he has Josiah. They are a couple since one week now. But he's afraid.
Afraid that Josiah will turn him down when he see or hear that he knot. He can understand. The knot is big and painful at first, because he need to shove it in with full force too. But he dosen't need to knot someone when they sleep with each other. The knit builds at the base of his cock. Only a bit behind it stays in its normal form, that the knot gets actually locked. So whenever he fucks someone, he can push full inside, until he's near coming. There his knot start to swell, and make it impossible to fit it inside with his normal thrusting. Specially not if it's a man.
But Mary was still afraid. Even though his knot give her a chance, that she don't need to take it. But he's over with Mary and Eliza. Even though her and Isaac's loss still hurt him verry bad. He rub his hands over his face and sigh. He's afraid to lose Josiah. The Englishman is way to good for him. He wonder how he derseve somone as beautiful, inteligent and nice as him. But he's glad about it. Josiah show him what love is. After a long time of getting non. He almost forgot what love is and how it feels. Yes he still is unsure and shy when both are alone, or blush and is a bit embarrassed when Josiah kiss him on the lips or cheeks in front of the gang. He isn't used to it. But he's sure he will get used to it. If Josiah dosen't leave him. He hope not. Because he love this man way to much.

Correa’s WO HR Helps Astros Stay Alive.
Rays 3 Astros 4 W-Pressly (1-0) L-Anderson (0-1)
The Houston Astros have shown us that the 60-game regular season this year doesn’t indicate how good of a team you are if you have playoff experience. The Astros swept through the Twins and A’s as they advanced to the American League Championship Series. Last night, they staved off elimination with a Game 4 win against the Rays and looked to continue to series in San Diego tonight. George Springer got the night started off right when he blasted a first-pitch fastball from John Curtiss out to left for a lead-off homer. This put Houston up 1-0 after an inning of play. The Rays would tie things up in the third when Brandon Lowe crushed a Blake Taylor fastball out to right-center for a solo homer. This knotted the game at one, but the Astros answered in the bottom of the third. Josh Reddick started the inning with a single then Martin Maldonado doubled to center. Michael Brantley plated a pair with a single to right and the Astros took a 3-1 lead. The Rays would not go away as Randy Arozarena hammered an Enoli Paredes fastball out to right-center for a solo homer. This pulled the Rays within a run after five innings of play. It was up to the bullpens down the stretch and the Astros faltered first. In the eighth, Ji-Man Choi smacked a Josh James fastball out to right for a solo homer and the game was tied at three apiece. We headed into the ninth inning and the Astros tried to keep their season alive. With one out, Carlos Correa belted a Nick Anderson fastball out to right-center for a solo homer. The walk-off homer forced a Game 6 and the Astros staved off elimination for another day.
-Final Thoughts- Both teams had bullpen games in Game 6. Josh Fleming went the longest for the Rays with three innings, where he allowed two runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. Luis Garcia started the game for the Astros and threw two scoreless innings with two walks and a strikeout. Ji-Man Choi and Mike Zunino led the way with two hits on the night. The Astros scattered six hits tonight, but got them when they needed to. The Rays hit 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. The Astros hit 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base. Kevin Kiermaier was limited to pinch-running duties with his bad hand. Tomorrow, Blake Snell will likely face Framber Valdez in Game 6.

10 Crappie Fishing Tips
Do you fish for crappies? Would you like to catch more crappies? In this article, we share crappie fishing tips to help you catch more crappies.
1. Schooling Fish
Crappie is a schooling fish. If you catch one, just know that there are many nearby. Quickly set your bait and go again. However, you will have to always look for these schools as they don’t remain in one place.
2. Nighttime Crappie Fishing
Fishing for crappies at night can be very productive as the light you use will attract minnows and they are food for crappies.
3. Slip Knot
A slip knot will get you more crappies. Just tie the lure on but make a loop rather than tightening the line down to the eye. This allows you to add more action to the lure.
4. Best Fishing Time
The best crappie fishing time of the year is the pre-dawn period coming in late winter into spring which is also the beginning of the crappie fishing period. If you would like to learn more crappie fishing tips, then click this link.
5. Moving Water In Spring
Be on the lookout for moving water in spring. The inlets will be warmer and the moving water provides oxygen. This is even more crucial in the ice belt after winter in which oxygen and other resources were depleted.
6. Spawn Period
During the actual spawn period, crappie is not focused on food and this will make fishing for crappie more difficult. Hence, you will have better chances of getting crappie by fishing for them before the spawning starts.
7. Crappie & Post-Spawn Stage
Crappie spread out in the post-spawn stage. They will spread throughout the water making it difficult to locate them. They will not be congregated in the shallows or basins like during other times of the year. They often relocate to weed lines or in timber.
8. Trolling
Trolling is one way to target crappie. When trolling, don’t let your line go too deep. Keep it just a few feet above the bottom and go slow. When trolling, use a light split shot or not use a weight. On the snell, you can troll with plastic or worm.
9. In The Fall
In fall, water temperatures start to get colder which will cause crappie to change their patterns. They will go to deeper water. You will have to fish slower with more finesse baits as crappie metabolism slows down. A slow fall rate might lure crappie to rise up and investigate your bait.
10. Crappie Ice Fishing
Ice fishing crappies also come with their challenges. You will find schools of crappie deep and feeding on zooplankton. On the ice, when you see zooplankton, there will be crappie there feeding on them.
Conclusion
Fishing for crappie is exciting and challenging. By learning their behavior and applying some tactics, you can be successful in fishing for crappies. In this article, we share fishing tips to help you catch more crappies. If you would to learn more about fishing, then go to www thehuntingterrain.com.

Fishing WESTERN Port Dogs MELBOURNE Snapper
There is no best snapper rig in Port Phillip Bay. Hi, my name is Brett as I'm the owner of Reedy’s Rigs it's literally my job to know what rigs work best in port Phillip Bay. this is what I've done for the last 10 years of my life target snapper ALL Year-Round in port Phillip Bay. Today I'll share that some information with you about rigs. Below on this Page is a Tutorial Video of Me Tying a Snapper Rig to help you catch a Melbourne Snapper. I Also Discuss Different types of Rigs you might Fish in Port Phillip Bay.
Unweighted Fly Rig
The first rig I use is Unweighted fly rigged on a Reedy’s Rig single circle Hook 4/0. In Port Phillip Bay there are lots of shallow reefs. Normally it's very snaggy Country so using twin Hooks is probably not ideal. I prefer the circle hook on this rig, Only Because they do not seem to get snagged as much. The unweighted fly will just give it that 10% attracting power and is also possible to catch a red with no bait. This rig is great early season when the fish are shallow. I use 20/40-pound leaders. I connect it to the mainline with a double uni knot or a Swivel if I plan to head deeper later. The early season when the fish go shallow is when I fish this rig most. The types of areas such as Black Rock, Altona, Elwood, Frankston, Brighton, Sandringham Mornington, Mount Eliza, Basically anywhere with heavy reef.
Snell Twin Hook Rig Snapper Rig
The Snell Rig probably port Phillip bay'smost used rig. Great for most parts of the bay. I use size 4/0 187 Hooks (octopus Style) you can catch big fish on small hooks. it's harder to catch small fish on big hooks. Let’s face it not every snapper is going to be a huge one. A 2Kg 3Kg fish are still good fish but would be better suited to 4/0 size hooks. I like my Snell rigs to have fixed hooks to help with penetration when hooking the fish. So, there's always been a lot of talk about unweighted and weighted on the Snell rigs, If you can get away with unweighted use an unweighted rig. but in my boat, I'm always fishing at least four rods or normally 8 so to keep those rods in an even spread so they’re not tangling up with each other, I Use size 1 Ball Sinker. It will keep that all in order so that's why I use the sinker. This rig is great for full Baits such as pilchards, Silver Whiting, squid heads, etc.
Reedy's Rigs Ultra Rig Tied On Paternoster
Reedy’s rigs Ultra-Rigs are the Best Pre-tied Paternoster rig on the market. there is no expense spared on the rig. I use paternoster rigs anytime when I'm fishing Snell rigs which are most of the time. Is probably my favorite rig, to be honest. I Find my Biggest fish of the year is normally caught on this Rig. Using fresh squid strips or rings is fantastic. But I like a silver whiting head Pinned through the nose. With circle hooks, you won't use the next size up Hook, then what you'd use generally speaking it's a size up so if you use normally used size 4/0 then use a 5/0 hook if you size 6/0 Buy 7/0 Etc.

As we bumped and bounced our way along route 90 outside of Boston, people in cars beeped and waved as they passed the long line of yellow school buses. My knees were pressed into the back of the seat in front of me. I remembered buses having a lot more room in them on the way to elementary school.
The “30 minute” bus ride from Boston to Hopkinton.
It was 2017 and the occasion was the running of the 121st Boston Marathon which, until now, takes place on the Massachusetts State holiday of Patriot’s Day each spring.
I paused in my scribbling of this post to re-read my entry from 2017. It seems like yesterday but also seems so long ago. I still naively believed that I had strained an adductor and didn’t realize the seriousness of the injury I ran with. I had no idea that within a year other parts of my twisted, aging body would decide that more marathons were not in my future. As I read, I vividly remember the journey from Hopkinton to Boston. I remember thinking “What an awesome place this is to be. Next time, I’d really like to run well here”. As it turns out it would be my slowest, and last marathon ever. I admit, I had to to pause for a few deep breaths while reading.
I shouldn’t be reading about things like my last ever Boston Marathon during allergy season. *sniff*
Patriot’s Day is this coming Monday (April 20th). There will be no school buses, no crowds, and no tired runners on the T on Monday afternoon. For now, the race has been postponed to September.
The Boston Marathon is not alone. Not a single springtime or early summer event has been spared the wraith of COVID-19. I had be vaguely training for two a few springtime events. I had planned to participate in my first Love Run. It has been postponed to October. I had also entered the Jim Thorpe Running Festival’s half-marathon. Also postponed to the fall but very close to the Love run so I chose to defer to next year. I had planned to participate in my first albeit small adventure race which has been postponed indefinitely.
We are now in the fourth or fifth week of “Stay-at-Home” orders from our Governor. We are existing here at home. So far I am still getting paid and able to work from home. We have plenty of food and, more importantly, toilet paper. On the plus side, we are saving lots of money because, frankly, there is nothing to spend it on. That said, we are definitely missing the little things in life.
I’ve never been a big NFL fan. I wouldn’t care if they never played another game. The same with the NBA and NHL. But I have always been a baseball fan. I have very fond memories of sitting on the back porch in the dark with Mom and Dad listening to the Phillies radio broadcast. We lived out in the country so the only sound aside from the calm voices of Richie Ashburn and Harry Kalas were the night time crickets and croaking bullfrogs.
The voices of warm spring evenings.
Outside the screened porch, the fireflies were so numerous their glow was like a constant burst of fireworks across the back yard. While these days, baseball season starts too early, goes too late and features way more playoff teams than deserve to be there, I have missed tuning my radio to the static-filled AM hum of the Phillies broadcast. There is no telling when they will be back in action.
Many of those evenings on the back porch followed a day of fishing with my good friend Norman and his son Lewis. “Back in the day” the target of most spring fishing trips was Delaware Bay weak fish. Contrary to their name, weak fish (or sea trout) are not weak. The names comes from their soft mouth. Once upon a time, big tide runner weak fish moved into the bay to spawn every spring. A 10 lb. weak fish slamming your bait and running off with the tide is the stuff angler dreams are made of. Norman and I spent many long winter nights shooting pool and dreaming of spring days and tide runners.
A giant tide runner “weakie” in Fortescue, NJ. Angler unknown.
In early May in Fortescue, NJ the line of trucks waiting with boats to launch at Higbee’s marina stretched down around the road all the way through town. It was often said, a person could walk across the bay on the boats during the spring weakfish run. Sadly, that was back before the days of saltwater limits. Both recreational and commercial fishing decimated the weakfish populations. Now the limit is a paltry 1 fish at 13″.
Still, come spring part of my heart turns to the Delaware Bay and fishing. With the effects of climate change, the bay is not the body of water it used to be but it is always changing and full of surprises. The big spring sport now is drum fish. Black drum have always been in the bay but in the days of the easier-to-catch weakfish, only a handful of eccentric anglers focused on drum. They were an odd bunch with odd ideas. Most old drum fisherman felt that you could only catch drum in the dead of night and that you had to be whisper quiet. You see, drum fish get their name because they drum. Really they are expelling air from their air bladder as, presumably, a form of communication but it sounds like someone slamming their foot down on the pedal of a big, bass drum. “BOOM”! Those old fishermen felt that if you can hear the drum fish they can hear you. Dropping a heavy lead weight on deck was liable to get you thrown overboard.
Drum fishing with my buddy Joe.
Success! The elusive black drum.
The last few years the drum fish bite in the bay has been superb. Some of the best drum fishing I ever remember. In fact, with not much else happening in the bay that time of year the fishery has attracted so many fisherman I worry that the drum will follow the path of the weak fish. Little is known about these booming giants.
A good night on the bay.
They are a pretty common fish but so was the weak fish. Fortunately, there isn’t a big commercial market for them and there are limits in place. That aside, this rekindled fishery has me anticipating spring trips on the bay each year followed by delicious drum fish parmesan. After spending cold winter days tying snell knots on fresh hooks, I eagerly await the new and full moons in May and the booming of big black drum. Like running and baseball, it seems like spring fishing, at least on the bay, will be another casualty of the current epidemic.
Drum fish convert to one of the best parmesans ever.
But really these are first-world problems even in the first world. There are people nearby worried about how they will buy food or keep a roof over their head so the inconvenience of not being able to run a race or go fishing pales in comparison. Still, I think it will be a long time before we have gatherings for recreational events again. There are optimists out there that are confident in fall race dates though I think we are in for a much longer fight than that. Nonetheless, I’ll look through some old photos, continue to read some of my old posts and hope for a return to the things we love.
The Rites of Spring As we bumped and bounced our way along route 90 outside of Boston, people in cars beeped and waved as they passed the long line of yellow school buses.

Gang Hooks Simply Catch More Fish
For the ones of you who have by no means heard of the term "gang-hooks", it's probable time which will take a closer appearance. A set of gang hooks is fairly simple to tie your self, or you may buy them, the selection is yours. What's important is which you start using them for all of your live bait fishing. A set of gang hooks is, by a long way, the maximum natural way to present a malicious program.
Gang hooks are without a doubt two small hooks tied in tandem. Hooks which can be in all likelihood plenty smaller than you will be conversant in. I personally prefer length 10 hooks. My choice is two length 10 hooks tied on four pound check. And I capture BIG fish with a setup it really is this size. I continually trap Small mouth Bass up and Rainbow Trout up to 5 or six pounds on gang hooks setups exactly that length.
The simplest downfall to a gang hook setup is that some state regulations do not allow them. So take a look at your kingdom rules before fishing with gang hooks. I know from enjoy that in Montana and Pennsylvania gang hooks are flawlessly felony. Check your nearby rules earlier than using them even though, simply to be safe.
So how do you get a preserve of gang hooks? There are two ways. First you may perform a little studies on knots, and tie them your self. His is glaringly the most inexpensive manner. Research the "Snell knot". The different manner to get a preserve of gang hooks is to simply purchase them. Go someplace like Fishing and you may be precise to move. My concept has continually been, that you can make a hamburger yourself to shop money or you may just visit McDonald's and pick out one up. The preference is yours.
The backside line is that in case you start using a fixed of per-tied gang hooks into your live bait fishing, you'll clearly catch greater fish. The herbal presentation that gang hooks provide can not be beat. The days of the "computer virus ball" and threading a worm onto a hook are long past the instant you start the usage of gang hooks. With gang hooks, you honestly hook the pinnacle on the malicious program into the pinnacle hook, the hook the second one hook into the worms' frame. Now your malicious program is rigged and looks precisely like it would if there were no hooks at all. It's a beautiful thing. Give gang hooks a shot, I promise which you may not be upset.
