2024 In Review
Another good writing year. I cleared my goal of 300K, with some to spare! I posted a total of 339,055 words in 2024 (all posted on AO3).
That is 100K less than last year but 450K words required more of a writing/life unbalance. I'm not sure how much more of a 'life' I had in 2024 but it felt more reasonable.
Breakdown and miscellaneous things that I think are interesting:
233 postings -- now some of those are chapters of a fic, so not necessarily 233 stories, if that makes sense
I wrote in 5 different fandoms, along with a bunch of crossovers:
Teen Wolf - 97 stories
Harry Potter - 57 stories
Stargate Atlantis - 28* stories
9-1-1 - 18 stories
Stargate SG-1 - 3 stories
Stargate Atlantis/Stargate SG-1 crossovers - 13 stories
Teen Wolf/Harry Potter crossovers - 11 stories
Multifandom crossover (i.e. all of the above) - 1 posting with 28 chapters, each separate ficlets
*Although I technically posted only 28 SGA stories, I completed 49 McSheplets prompts. I'm working my way through the original McSheplets prompt list (all 300 prompts), and I wrote a series of microfics that are chapters in larger post. But that brings me up to having completed 81 McSheplets prompts since I've started in 2023. As a result, I'm just over 25% of the way through that list.
The crossovers were largely part of no_true_pair and I completed 2 (!) sets of stories for the prompts. Next time, 1 set is enough. As usual, fic length was all over the place:
35 drabbles of exactly 100 words (mostly Harry100 prompts, or Sterekdrabbles)
106 'short' fic, meaning over 100 and under 1000 words
4 over 10K, with the longest fic being 36K
7 microfic posts where each chapter was a more-or-less standalone ficlet, generally under 100 words
The microfic stories were a fun writing challenge. I used it expand existing stories (i.e. the follow-up fic that could be written but I didn't necessarily have the time or energy) or, as I said, to fill in more McSheplet entries that I'd likely struggle meeting otherwise.
I did one podfic as part of a larger project. The original intent was for RomancingMcShep, held in February (and again this year!), but the story didn't have the required happy ending, so we put it in SGA_Saturday's collection for Romancing SGA.
@melagan and I ran a very low key Stargate Anniversary Fest, since it was 20 years since the first episode of Atlantis and 30 (!) years since the original movie was shown. Folk have added fic to this and there are 130 works in that collection.
Toward the end of 2024, I took over SGA_SecretSanta from @popkin16 who had to give it up due to real life things. Many thanks to Popkin for her hard work over the years. The fest ended up with 25 lovely works, which is amazing for an older fandom.
Across the year, I wrote 27 stargateficrec entries, focusing on Jack O'Neill. It's fun to dig up some older O'Neill stories and share them with others. I did a small handful of fancake recs, largely in non-SGA fandoms.
Overall, it's been a good writing year and I'm looking forward to doing more in 2025!
Happy New Year!

Rules: Go to your published works on AO3 and list the first fic you ever published there, the last fic you published, any fic that you wrote for a fandom/ship only once, your favorite fic you wrote in the fandom/ship that has the most works, the fic you wish more people read, the fic you agonized over the most, the fic that sprang fully formed from your mind without any effort, and a work you are proud of—for whatever reason. <3
First fic: Our Little Gathering, for Chocolate Box in 2016 - Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, specifically the book version. 2016 feels WAY too late because I had an AO3 account long before that, but I guess I was only reading?? The fic is about Arabella's abduction to Lost Hope and her friendship with Emma Pole.
(Not on AO3, but my first fic EVER is Some things never change..., a three chapter continuation of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles from 2000. Oh lord.)
Last fic: It Never Was Anywhere You, the first chapter! Do you like unhinged? Do you like genderbends? Do you like Stizzy? Do you like unhinged genderbent Stizzy??? It's entirely written and will all be posted before Oct. 5.
Only once: I actually have a lot of these from doing multifandom/small-fandom fests. The one I will highlight is A Sensible Couple, the only Sanditon fic I will ever write. It's a Stringer/Charlotte marriage of convenience fic, kind of a fix-it from my perspective.
Favorite fic from the fandom I've written in most: In OFMD, of course. I think it's A Perfect Pair - not my first genderbend but the one where I just let loose. Buckets of angst for both Ed and Stede, an unplanned sex scene that basically wrote itself, and I had to work at the writing in a really satisfying way (to keep them from reconciling too quickly, lol).
Fic I wish more people read: I have an ego and I wish more people read all my works, lmao, but the reception for Fiercely, my brief Marial/Catherine fic (The Great), got me all grouchy. I have every intention of writing more of this ship despite the fact that the fandom isn't into it.
Fic I agonized over: Torn between Powerless and Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, because I agonized over both of these. BTDATDBS was emotionally wrenching to write, as I put Stede through the absolute wringer in it with no reprieve until the end, and I also just couldn't figure out how to accomplish the final chapter, so it put me through the wringer as well. Powerless was ... actually not that hard to write, but BOY did I work myself up over the idea that I was going to be crucified for posting it.
Fic that sprang fully formed: there'll be peace of mind, a hurt/comfort fic where the reunion occurs between a slightly injured Ed and both physically and psychologically injured Stede. It was really magical because @appleteeth's prompts lined up exactly with what I'd been hoping to write.
Work(s) I'm proud of: I was tempted to say Prisons, but I think it's gotta be He That Plays the King, my novella from 2022's Hurt/Comfort Exchange. I'm still slightly amazed that I wrote it, tbh! It's "original slash", very iddy, 30k, about kingship and masculinity and Anglo-Saxon England.
A tag to summon: @ghostalservice, @nicnacsnonsense, @adickaboutspoons, @thetardigrape, @oatmilktruther

Ever wanted a vid made for you?
If you are a vidder of any skill level and have always wanted a vid made for you, but feel too nervous to sign up to a formal exchange, this season’s Equinox is the fest for you.
Here’s the rules:
If you are a vidder and there's even a slight chance you might claim a prompt if you see one you like, then you are welcome to participate. There is no formal matching; there is no requirement that you make a vid. We do however ask that if you submit prompts, there is at least a small chance you might make a vid (otherwise we might have a lot of prompts and few vids!)
How cool is that?
You can leave your prompts/check out other people’s prompts here: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/fallequinox2020/profile
If it helps, here are some fandoms that I might vid if a prompt catches my eye:
Good Omens
Venom
Doctor Who
James Bond
Star Wars
50 First Dates
How to Steal a Million
A multifandom vid starring dragons
A multifandom vid starring elephants
A multifandom vid focusing on one Shakespeare play that has been adapted to several movies (eg. every Hamlet, every Midsummer Night’s Dream, every Twelfth Night)
A multifandom dancing or action vid

2020 by the numbers
total words written: 158,183
number of (new) stories posted: 18
exchanges participated in: 8, plus a Big Bang
fandoms/source canons: 7 or 9 (depending on how you count Star Wars sub-fandoms)
longest piece: Unexpected (see below)
shortest: a few 100-word drabbles I wrote for the Multifandom Drabble Fest
Top 5 stories by length:
Unexpected (29700 words)
pulse to pulse (19560 words)
Filling the Role (14743 words)
ask again later (5974 words)
what stranger miracles (4633 words)
Top 5 by kudos:
Filling the Role
It Must Be Christmas Time
Unexpected
pulse to pulse
root system (lol, the small fandom life - this story has less than half the kudos of number 4)
My writing-related goals for 2020 were to:
focus on True and False and two other longer pieces - yes! I wrote two brand new novellas and True and False is 99% complete, even if I haven’t managed to post the last chapter yet
finish a rough draft of my original novel - nope, didn’t touch it at all this year
rethink my exchange participation - sort of? I signed up to fewer altogether, but I still found the ones I did very stressful (although that might have been due to, y’know, everything else going on)
explore different creative fields - I registered for a sketching class at the local art gallery, which was cancelled before it started, and did some basic drawing exercises on my own but never got very far. Maybe I should focus on music next year!
Other personal challenges and milestones:
I participated in a Big Bang for the first time, which taught me a couple of valuable lessons, number one being that they are very much not my thing
related to the above, I wrote 150,000+ words in a year for the first time ever (and probably the last)
I wanted to comment at the rate of at least one per day, and I did! 🎉 this year I commented on 398 fanworks (not counting gifts for me)
I’m having trouble settling on creative goals for 2021; there are a few things I want to do, but nothing is really demanding my attention at the moment. That may be a sign it’s time to step back from posting and just write for my own eyes for a while. 🤔

After all this work creating a list of the best (read: my favorite) active multifandom fanfiction events (with a light dusting of my personal thoughts), I realize I forgot friggin Fandom Trumps Hate
I'll add Fandom Trumps Hate (FTH) later. It's over for 2019 anyway. But still. So here:
Fandom Trumps Hate is an auction of fanworks with the proceeds going to charities that support and provide for populations targeted by hateful groups and ideologies. Find their homes on Tumblr, Dreamwidth, and their collections on AO3. Speaking from recent experience it feels great to join this project and offer works.
Moving on! The TL;DR of my blog post is: Fandom 5k, WIP Big Bang, Iddy Iddy Bang Bang, Yuletide, NaNoWriMo, Small Fandom Bang and/or Small Fandom Fest, and Half a Moon. If you want quick little blurbs about each of them, I totally delivered. Click here.
If you haven't heard of these, I highly recommend. Also wondering if anyone knows about and/or is running any other fanfic-oriented multifandom events like these? I'd love to know about more (and add them!)

Hi! I have a question that may be a little weird. My goal for this year and next year is to run my own big bang and i was wondering if youve got any tips or resources?
I don’t have anything to link you, but I’d be happy to talk about it with you if you want! It’s been a lot of trial and error since I started modding this bang, but I feel like I’ve got a pretty good handle on it now. I hope lol
Some of my general tips would be:
Make sure you set a schedule that works with your personal schedule. Don’t make due dates or times when you’ll be busy or won’t have access to a computer.
Stay organized! I use google docs for everything, from spreadsheets for sign ups to post bases I can copy and paste the next year to storing the graphics for promotion posts.
Promo the hell out of it. Post on every platform you can think of, ask established bangs/fests/exchanges/blogs to affiliate, reblog/retweet/repost often. I didn’t have as much trouble getting participants with this bang since it’s multifandom and it’d been going for a year when I came on, but I started an exchange for a small fandom and it was much harder.
You can message me on my personal tumblr (@voldiebuns) or email me ([email protected] or [email protected]) if you wanna talk some more specifics!

A Few Small Events Happening on Dreamwidth
Posted by: kalloway A few small events and whatnot, many inspired by 3weeks4dreamwidth: Multi-Fandom Writing Prompt Comms & Whatnot 2024 Edition - what it says on the tin, additions quite welcome! (List pruned and posted yearly, additions welcome any time.) There's a friending meme happening over on anime_manga, for anyone looking for more friends into anime, manga, and adjacent fandoms. Group-read (as in, a group all reading, sometimes on a theme, sometimes not) community readingtogether is holding a Minithon until the 15th of May. There's no theme, other than reading and chatting for 3W4DW. Multifandom spring-inspired fanwork community spring_renewal just finished its annual round, and all prompts will be retired at the beginning of the next round. Come check out the prompt list, post for amnesty, and let it be spring all year long. There's a Cygames Prompt Fest happening over here, arguably for 3W4DW but it'll remain open indefinitely. Prompts for any game or anime Cygames is involved are welcome. (Granblue Fantasy, Dragalia Lost, Rage of Bahamut, Bravern, Zombie Land Saga, Priconne, World Flipper, Little Noah, etc.) There's also a new Rec-A-Game Meme, for anyone who'd like video game recommendations. It's been more than a decade since the last one, so it's time. It'll also remain open indefinitely. And lastly, small_fandoms is running its annual Small Fandoms Promofest, which runs from today until May 15th. Come share a bit about your favorite small fandoms or maybe find a new one of your own! comments via The Fandom Calendar https://ift.tt/9dACugj
