France Prešeren (2 or 3 December 1800 – 8 February 1849)
19th-century Romantic Slovene poet. He has been generally acknowledged as the greatest Slovene classical poet and has inspired virtually all later Slovene literature. After his death, he became the leading name of the Slovene literary canon.
Prešeren Day is a public holiday celebrated in Slovenia. It marks the anniversary of his death on 8 February 1849 and is the celebration of the Slovenian culture. (Wikipedia)
