Zanda Elwood is back with a new album: Amongst Da Khaos
(You can also get the audio version of this article at the bottom of the page)
Zanda Elwood’s album Amongst Da Khaos is a personal reflection on life’s challenges and growth. Rooted in hip-hop, rap, and RnB, it touches on themes like street life, mental health, relationships, and resilience. Zanda uses raw, authentic poetry to explore his experiences, especially focusing on the turbulence and chaos that have shaped him.
The album features 22 songs. This is particularly impressive because it takes a substantial amount of work and effort to make it happen. Long-format releases are really difficult to complete in this day and age, especially as artists are constantly pressured to release singles instead of LPs. There is nothing wrong with releasing singles, but the risk is that fans will miss out on the immersive nature of a full-length listening experience such as a complete album. Zanda decided to really go against the grain with this one, releasing what could be essentially described as a double album. One of the benefits of being able to put out so much music is the ability to showcase different sides of one's artistry and vision. This is most definitely the case of Amongst Da Khaos.
Tumblr media
The album emerges from Melbourne’s music scene and represents Zanda’s evolution as an artist, as well has his ambitious take on hip-hop. Starting as a bedroom artist, Zanda grew into the city's vibrant soundscape, where he continues to channel his life struggles into music. The project reflects on how he has overcome various personal battles, making it an immersive listening experience that blends storytelling with emotional depth. Keep reading for song-by-song breakdown.
Amongst Da Khaos (Intro) – Zanda Elwood
The album intro is a mood setter, and it feels like a perfect beginning to this diverse record. The song has a very ethereal sound, with acoustic guitar arpeggio sampled over a punchy beat.
Tummy Tuck – Zanda Elwood, Andrew Simpson
This feature with Andrew Simpson retains a very atmospheric vibe in the intro, but it quickly morphs into a heavy hitter. The urgency of the flow adds to the aggressive edge of the sound, and the articulation of the beat adds a modern touch to this release.
Badman – Zanda Elwood
This song has something different to offer. Zanda showcases his ability to go for a more melodic side and his versatility as a storyteller with lyrics that are very memorable and easy to relate to while still remaining honest and dynamic.
Nada – Zanda Elwood, Slothy
This track features Slothy, and its a return to a darker, moodier sound. The beat has a brooding quality, which matches the intensity of the delivery and the unique touch of this performance.
Forza – Zanda Elwood, Jteazy, Jake Mack, Slothy
The title of this song translates to “strength” in Italian, and it’s indeed another banger with thick bass tones and a powerful mix that sets the bar higher right off the bat. The energy is through the roof and this would be the kind of track that would really kill in a live setting.
Skeleton – Zanda Elwood
"Skeleton" features a more mellow beat adorned with a stunning piano part, where space between the kicks and claps allows Zanda’s vocals to take center stage and showcase his more emotional side. The track has a haunting quality, with melodic ambiance floating over the track’s foundation. Zanda explores darker themes, blending vulnerability with strength, giving listeners a deep, introspective moment.
Talk Right – Zanda Elwood, Lavez, Slothy
This track blends trap rhythms with melodic elements, creating a smooth yet hard-hitting sound. The track retains a very atmospheric feel, but at the same time, the delivery by all artists involved really goes hard, especially as the drum beat takes off and keeps a harder pace.
In To Deep – Zanda Elwood, Loeaze
"In To Deep" has a dreamy, atmospheric beat that contrasts with the sensual and lustful lyrics. There is also room for a tastefully syncopated drum pattern, which is reminiscent of modern Afro-Beat aesthetics.
How You Doin'? – Zanda Elwood
This is perhaps the most catchy and uplifting song on the album. The beat has a true early 2000s vibe, with a funky twist that is reminiscent of production greats such as Timbaland or Dre. The rap flow is impeccable as well, highlighting yet another side of Zanda’s incredible talent and versatility.
Señorita – Zanda Elwood
"Señorita" blends Latin influences with trap, adding a touch of flair to the usual hard-hitting beats, this time accompanied by a clean electric guitar part that adds so much rhythm and melody all at once. The beat strays from the usual 808 type drum machine sound, going for a more uptempo pop vibe that really brings some variety to the album.
Ra-Ta-Tata – Zanda Elwood
The trap beat is punchy, with tight hi-hats and a deep bassline creating a strong foundation for Zanda’s flow. This is perhaps one of the heaviest tracks on the album when it comes to bass content in the mix, as it builds a truly massive wall of sound, while retaining a minimalistic tone.
Early Lemon Berry – Zanda Elwood
This track leans into a more mellow trap beat, but it also showcases Zanda’s respect for the old-school rap scene. The flow has a classic vibe, which really stands out and sets the bar higher, but showcasing that sometimes “less is more.” Zanda’s flow is never flashy, as he know that the genuine content of his lyrics and storytelling is already enough to really make the song special.
Caffine – Zanda Elwood
This song is a heavy hitter, but at the same time it's also a very personal background that gives more insights into the upbringing of this artist.
BLVD – Zanda Elwood, Loeaze
Zanda and Loeaze set out to bring a modern vibe with this one, and the production is really engaging, with a lot of stop-and-go features that make it so dynamic. There are many highs and lows in terms of the track being kind of like a rollercoaster, with different rhythms and melodic parts colliding.
If I Try – Zanda Elwood, Jayden Hope
"If I Try" brings a more melodic element into the mix, with Jayden Hope's vocals adding more depth to the track. The guitars are crisp and expressive, perfectly merging with the rest of the beat, but allowing the vocals to really stand out in this production.
Bad Company – Zanda Elwood
"Bad Company" is a gritty, raw track with heavy bass and another nod to old-school hip-hop. The saturation on the bass drum especially is very tasteful, adding more crunch to the mix, but still allowing the vocals to shine.
Breezy – Zanda Elwood, Jye Simpson, Lil Sknow
Zanda, Jye Simpson, and Lil Sknow deliver some of the best performances on the album. The first verse is crazy, with a lot of sustained phrasing that bring so much energy to the song, without overpowering it. This song brings so much variety to the mix, and it really works.
Know The Pilot – Zanda Elwood, Slothy
Know The Pilot" combines haunting melodies with a heavy but slow trap beat, creating a moody soundscape that contrasts with the aggressive edge of the vocals.
RTS – Zanda Elwood
It’s always impressive when rappers are able to go without an actual drum beat in the intro and keep their groove with their vocals alone: this is exactly what’s happening here, as the vocals really drive this song, keeping a relentless pace even when the beat relaxes.
Lana Del Rey – Zanda Elwood
"Lana Del Rey" stands out with its dreamy tone, with a hooky and soft piano that adds a beautiful texture throughout the mix. The vocals are unique, so expressive, almost like poetry to music.
No, No, No – Zanda Elwood
This is another contender when it comes to being one of the catchiest songs on the album, and it’s one of the release’s best tracks. This is the kind of song that would drive people crazy at a club!
See Through – Zanda Elwood
"See Through" closes the album on a reflective note, with atmospheric synths and a slow trap beat creating a moody vibe. Zanda’s introspective lyrics are as personal as ever, serving as a very intimate yet still powerful ending to this epic album.
To conclude, this album is a monumental achievement that not many rappers, established or up-and-coming, would dare to even attempt. Inspired by artists like ChillinIt, Post Malone, and Jelly Roll, Amongst Da Khaos stands out for its honesty and exploration of real-life situations. It's a documentation of Zanda’s journey and how he’s turned chaos into art.

Silly question because I am new to DL fandom but have been hyperifxating on OC blogs - you all write so well its a rabbit hole from one blog to another lol is Burai king of the viboras or all demons? And how did he get to be king over the whole demon realm if he is Vibora? You don't have to answer if you don't want to! I am just curious
Hello my dear anon friend! You have, fortunately or unfortunately, just stumbled onto one of DL’s biggest plot rabbit holes. I’ll do my best to explain it as much as I can, but feel free to take whatever I have to say with a grain of salt.
First, it’s very unclear if Burai is king of just the Viboras or of all the demon clans. The DL game lore is basically crumbs tossed here and there, and it’s hard for anyone to gain a complete worldview of the demon world and it’s various clans. Burai himself isn’t even introduced until Dark Fate and then he disappears in Lost Eden. So we have very little info to go off of. If you look at his wiki page (which also needs to be taken with a grain of salt. For example the wiki gives him a canon appearance when there is no canon appearance of him, we do not know what he looks like) it says both Vibora King and Demon Lord as his occupation. This is a distinct difference from Karlheinz’s page where it lists “Vampire King, Politician, and School doctor”. I personally choose to believe that Burai is king of the Viboras only and that Karlheinz is king of the vampires only. BUT there are lots of interpretations to this that are just as valid and different. Every oc blog that you visit occupies a slightly different universe, although there are some similarities that cross universes. For example, @adiabolikpastel @smonie and myself have sort of a shared “Burai” interpretation. Now, you may ask yourself “Slothy, then why does your Burai call himself the demon king in your stories?” And that my friend is because my Burai is an egotistical asshole who thinks he’s better than all the other demon kings.
Now, I’ve interacted with blogs where Karlheinz is the King of all Demons. This makes sense, in the first game he’s introduced as that and it’s not really specified that he’s the Vampire king (or that there are other demon races) until the later games. But I’ve also interacted with blogs where Burai himself is the king of demons and I vibe with that because I think it’s pretty cool. Because there’s NO canon information on Viboras it’s kind of up to the fandom to make their own interpretation. For example, because they’re snakes I choose to base them off the snake that tempted Eve in the garden of Eden. This gives my Viboras a very “biblical demon” interpretation. But all blogs are different, and until DL releases a game with a vibora protagonist then there’s nothing they can do to stop me from doing my own thing 😎
I hope this helped answer your questions! I know it’s not a super concrete or satisfying answer, but unfortunately in the DL universe lore has to be painstaking pieced together from background game information.

I don't know why I'm putting this into your ask box, buuuuut- Inner Sloth boi, is it just me, or does he give off way different vibes than someone who is supposed to represent Sloth? Take Wrath's Inner self, the guy was heckin angry. Lust's was lustful for attention from their Eve. Greed's was greedy to feel. Yet Sloth...doesn't feel Slothy, or is this just me? He feels to energetic and...eager?
I don't know if you addressed this question to the right person because you literally asked a witch about demons; you asked a person who works with spirits about a spirit. From my perspective you did well, but maybe from other's perspective or even yours... 😂
So I suggest that whoever doesn't or can't read this with an opened mind, stops RIGHT HERE. Because the following content contains things that you might find unrealistic or crazy and I won't tolerate nor joke around regarding hate towards this topic.
Now let's see... Personally, I don't see him as not representing his sin. Because, I think that, people don't understand the concept of these sins yet. And Servamp shows us exactly that, which is one of the reasons why I love and adore this manga so much.
Let's first see what does sloth, what does laziness, mean from the perspective of humans.
Tumblr media
Reluctance to work, so unwillingness, someone who doesn't want to work or do something, yeah?
Now let's see what does sloth, what does laziness, mean from the perspective of a spirit, of a demon. How do we do this? Everyone has Spirit Guides, which are superior spirits of any kind who guide us in life. They can be Angels, Demons, Gods/Goddesses, relatives or friends from your past lives or even from this life.
One of my Spirit Guides is a demon, and as you probably noticed, I'm a lazy person. And just as Mahiru, I used to see this as something bad, as an inconvenience, as a sin. And so I was told by my Spirit Guide:
"Laziness? [...] What's laziness other than self-care? [...]"
Let me repeat this in a simpler way: LAZINESS IS SELF-CARE
Now let's see why. And we gave the perfect candidate for this — Kuro.
Oh, our dear Kuro, the lazy vampire who never wanted to do anything. We thought him as lazy because he's the Servamp of Sloth, yeah? And what did that laziness turn out to be? Trauma.
Kuro didn't want to do anything because he was afraid. Afraid of feeling that anguish, that regret again. Maybe even of losing control. And what do people say when they don't want to do something? When they're afraid to do something but don't want to seem cowards. "I'm lazy, man." Don't say you've never done this with your friends.
And what's Kuro's "I'm lazy"? "Can't deal", "What a pain".
And remember that Mahiru noticed this too?
Tumblr media
Now tgat we know what sloth, what laziness means, let's go back to my beautiful little creepy baby, Inner Kuro.
At the beginning of the manga, we were told that a Servamp is Sin, and an Eve is their Reason. So Reason to Sin. Reason to be Slothy, to be Lazy.
Does Mahiru give him a reason to be slothy? Does Mahiru give him a reason to care, to protect? He has. During the C3 arc. I don't remember what chapter it was and I'm too lazy to look for it.
Let's analyze a bit that sentence in bold. If laziness is self-care, then what am I saying? Has anyone noticed that, most of the time, when you feel lazy, it's like you feel drained of energy, which makes you feeling like you don't wanna do anything? So I'm saying I'm tired to scroll throughlike 30 chapters to look for one screenshot. I'm protecting myself from draining myself more, from putting my health in danger. I'm practicing self-care.
When did Inner Kuro do this to Mahiru during the C3 arc? When he fainted after Touma's attack, he wanted to save Tsurugi, yeah? And remember that Inner Kuro wanted to stop him by telling him that that won't cure his loneliness or something like that?
He told him to not do something, and not doing something or not wanting to, is seen as laziness. What did Inner Kuro do to Mahiru right after? He gave him a new weapon. And remember what else? He told him to be careful with it. So again, we have care, we have protection.
I forgot to mention why is that care and protection. When you neglect yourself the way Mahiru does, when you forget or ignore your own problems to help someone else, when you ignore your own well-being for the sake of others, you end up getting drained. You end up losing yourself. When you don't take care of yourself, when you don't practice that self-care that people call laziness, it will be too late for you to save yourself. And this is what Inner Kuro wanted to prevent Mahiru from doing. So let yourself be lazy from time to time. There's nothing wrong with that. We're not lazy, we only live a judgemental world.
Now. Inner Kuro, in his "true form" had any reason to want to be lazy again? To not want to do anything? As Sloth you'd think he might be lazy all the time, but are lazy people lazy all the time? If Mahiru is his Reason, did he give him any Reason to be slothy when they met? The guy was probably so excited to have met him, to have met someone and interact with them after so long that that excitement "canceled" that laziness. As it happens to lazy humans too. Are you too lazy to be happy? If your answer is yes, you might wanna visit a therapist.
With Kuro too, when he met Sloth. Could he really act, be lazy after seeing the person who betrayed him and locked him up that empty and dark place for so long? Could that anger and pain cancel laziness?
But that's not all. We had the same story with other sins you mentioned too. Why was Wrath angry? Why was Lust lustful for attention? Why was Greed greedy to feel?
After you find those answers, ask yourself: Why should Inner Kuro be slothy?
THIS TURNED SO HELLA LONG I HOPE IT MADE SENSE TO YOU BECAUSE I'M REALLY SHITTY AT EXPLAINING THINGS AND IF I FREAKED YOU OUT SOMEHOW I'M SORRY, BYE MY BEAUTIFUL BABES

If you wish to understand the mind you must go out of your mind. If you wish to know the mind you've got to feel it. Remember what that like? And I don't mean happy or sad, I mean the full spectrum. People are more unable to deal with others because they lack the ability to recognize feelings within themselves well enough to contemplate them and handle/own and use them as tools and therefore can not begin to entertain what having the experience of the absolutely delicious human condition IS. It is a entrapment getting more and more serious with overwhelmingly large quantities of dissatisfied, sad, depressed, frustrated, hesitant, escapist, shut down, lost in translation---people. Scope out gather up the amazing blessing that 2020 was. If you don't see, can't see how it was a soul shakedown-baggage clearing- growing pain of a yum yum, well then a bit of a pity to go through all this and that for nothing. All paths are different and deserve respect as all is all and all just is. Far beyond judgement, some places are.
Then once without baggage let it go and blast out the gate like a racehorse at the derby.
Set your intention. Leave room for spontaneous moments that take breaths away vs the endless selfies and virtual. You are life itself. Act like it. Be the change vs call another out. You want to end growth hormoned filled eggs, dirty sea waste fish, grow something, do something go clean a beach, a park, you want to end racism go work in a shelter, volunteer in low income areas, mentor or go educate yourself in a library, get yourself a mentor, help someone be an apprentice ..offer them something so as to learn and not use excuses or accept the limitations of a faulty system not designed for you and rise up. Help your community, do public speaking reach the youth, mentor another race, expose yourself to others and learn how to embrace the differences. Embrace them with confidence not arrogance. Embrace them because you know who you are and you can share of yourself and allow another to share of him or herself. Respect yourself, respect others, set boundaries with love and compassion for all not just for yourself, have compassion towards the one you are expressing your boundaries to. Speak and learn to speak the very language of others. Language, tone, feel.
Step out of the box. Accept the beauty of the storm and the elegance of chaos.
Do not limit yourself from experiencing this human condition but take a long hard look. We have 7.4 billion people here. You wanna wake up. Wake up at least that.
We are a powerful product of evolution. We have destroyed enough. We are better than this.
If you want to understand the mind you have got to feel. Feel it all in order to know and recognize how your how brain works bio chemically and mechanically in order to retrain it. I suppose it may need courage and it is uncomfortable.
But although making humanity comfortable getting it used to doing whatever it takes for that comfort was a very very good intention....
Comfort mmmmm has that slothy weak slow sluggish vibe ya know?
Easy to capture ...train...debilitating , no survival skills which is kinda basic ...know how to survive if your alive. Not much in the grand scope of things.
Get to know yourself. Never mind the rest. Get to know you and as you do observe others with more love and compassion and allow them to get to know themselves and ask yourself how can you be of service to those you love and then expand that as you open up more to it all.
It's not scary...it's rather fucking fascinating.
It's part of a lifetime

I love your deck!! Can I have a general reading please? And you can call me Slothy~
Thank you so much! i have a lot of different decks, but I think my Egyptian one is my favourite of them all just because it’s the first one i ever bought!
Tumblr media
So, my immediate reaction is that you’ve probably had a good and fulfilling 2019. You’re heading into 2020 feeling very romantic and full of love. Your first cards are the knight and ace of chalices, both of which are very strong cards with deep ties to love. 2020 is going to be a big one for you in terms of your love life. You’re going to both be on both the giving and receiving end of all forms of love.
Something in your life is going to change in a very drastic fashion in 2020. Your next card is the ace of swords, which can represent a moment of clarity or inspiration to try out new things. You’re going to be open to new experiences and ideas and this is going to lead to those very big changes, which i feel like are going to be all kinds of intimidating at first, because your next card is the Tower in reverse. In reverse, the Tower can signify a fear of change and fear of impending disaster, which i’ll get to in a bit.
Tumblr media
The next card is the sun, which is a very good sign. You’re going to have a lot of warm, radiant, happy energy. It’ll shine through whatever doubts you might be having and you’ll come through the other side with a clearer outlook and likely feeling less intimidated than you were before. The card after this is The Star, which only reinforces that message.
I’m very much getting the vibe that whatever will intimidate you and lead you to doubting your good fortunes has some strong connections to something that has happened in your past. Among other things, the Star can represent a light at the end of the tunnel and self realisation after difficult times.
Tumblr media
Next is the 8 of wands, followed by the devil, which is a really interesting combo that really bolsters everything I’ve said thus far. The 8 of wands represents change and the Devil can represent holding tightly onto the past and bad habits. What’s more, up next is the 6 of swords, reversed, which is about resisting change. Finally, the last card is the 3 of pentacles, which suggests teamwork.
I think my cards are trying to tell you that a lot of good things are coming for you in 2020 and they’re going to, understandably, be quite scary at first. The last card, though, says you won’t be alone in the transition.
Your charms are:
Tumblr media
You have both a key and a spoon, which make me think that this is going to be a year of opportunities and blessings. The Buddha head leads me to think that you’ll reach some conclusions about yourself and life in general. The feathers imply freedom to me and truly coming into your own.
For the hell of it, i also did an oracle card reading and got the below:
Tumblr media
I’m not going to theorise on them as their messages are pretty self explanatory.
Thank you for your support and i hope you have a fantastic 2020!

Top of 2019
With 56 films watched and 27 favorited in 2019, I composed a list of my top. By pure happenstance, the list is almost an exact third (18) of the total films watched. Be aware that I don’t have as much to say about some of these because I took no notes after.
Because I’d be biased towards them, I don’t count the National Theatre Live plays.
Since the list is likely to be altered between now and the end of February (to accommodate for films missed), check the Lettboxd list later on to see an up to date listing, but be aware that it intentionally lacks the details provided here.
EDIT (01/04/20):
Woke up this morning religiously re-reading this and caught some grammar errors. It’s almost like staying consistently well-rested is actually beneficial. While I’m at it, Blind Rating (BR) is how worthwhile the film is watching “blind” (or knowing nothing). The scale is 1 (worth it) to 5 (you must). ‘Eh is essentially a 0.5.
1. Midsommar (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw the original and Director's Cut in theatres and discussed them with a group immediately after both times. I’m somewhere between really liking it and loving it. Still unsure. Hell of an experience with a lot to notice, debate over, and pick up on during the second viewing. Don’t even get me started on the Christian/Dani matter. Dat tension, tho. Blind Rating: 4/5
2. Us (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres and discussed with a group immediately after. I’m digging the allegories and the way (I think) it reflects on society. Dem reveals, tho. Blind Rating: 4/5
3. Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres and discussed with a group immediately after. Two things probably play a huge hand in this not being atleast 3 spots lower: my demographic and the fact that her older self constantly reminded me of my grandma and a certain middle school teacher. Regardless, it’s an entertaining, interesting, and lively documentary with its many personalities on-screen all giving their take on matters along with Ms. Morrison herself. Glad they managed to finish and release this 1.25 months before her death. Blind Rating: 0/5
4. When They See Us (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw on Netflix over the course of a month. Y’all, this one hurt too much to watch again any time soon. Admittedly, part of the reason why it hit me so hard is because I could easily have been one of them. Dat ending, tho. Don’t forget to watch the Oprah followup When They See Us Now after. You’ll ball (again). Blind Rating: 3/5
5. Parasite (South Korea)
Tumblr media
Saw an advance screening in theatres and watched a live post-film Q&A. I really like it. This hit me in such a way that it’s one of three films I’m writing an essay on. Planing on watching it a second time soon so I can finish with a sense of accuracy. This isn’t one that I would recommend looking at images for. There are some that will spoil the experience of the second half. Seriously, block the “Parasite” tag from your feed if you can. Blind Rating: 3/5
6. Luce (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres and discussed with a group immediately after. This was is so~ good as a thriller and especially in regards to being Black in America. Wanted to watch it a second time but never managed to squeeze it in before it left theatres. Dem performances, tho. Dat tension, yo. Dat score, bro. Blind Rating: 1/5
7. Them That Follow (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres and discussed with someone immediately after. I love it. Blind Rating: 1/5
A drama influenced thriller about a religious and somewhat self-isolating community that's effectively blanketing a realistic romance. (snip) —Letterboxd review
8. The Souvenir (United Kingdom)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres (partially because so many movie peeps were shitting on it). I love it, but I didn't fucking love it. Was tempted to see it again, but didn’t get the chance. Dat ending, tho. While it was a movie peep telling me the whole plot that caused me to gain so much interest in it [Cabin in the Woods (2011) all over again, amiright?], I must say that the less you know the better. It’ll make for... a more immersive experience. Blind Rating: 3/5
9. After the Wedding (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres and discussed with a group immediately after. I thought I really liked it, but I love it. This was a trip down unexpected lane, le'me tell ya. The trailer is a spoilerful lie, but the Landmark's description is very accurate. People's experiences will have a heavy hand in how they react to it and feel about certain characters. The way they made this feel like a constant thriller was excellently done. Dat cinematography, tho. Go in knowing nothing more than what the previous link provides. Blind Rating: 1/5
10. Joker (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres and discussed with a group immediately after. I really like it. Blind Rating: 1/5
(slight spoilers)
This was difficult to watch at times, but hella captivating throughout. Arthur's reasoning is believable, his sanity is questionable, and his life is indeed one hell of a joke. Like watching an extreme example of what happens when people on the lower end lose access to social programs. This can very easily be taken as a commentary on mental illness kept unchecked. More than that, it's a story about a guy who accepts his "crazy" and transcends poverty, circumstance, and societal bullshit... at everyone else's expense. (snip) —Letterboxd review
11. Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres and discussed with a group immediately after. I really like it. Captivating documentary in a very similar style to Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am, but with Mr. Davis never joining the “talking heads” (as people like to call it) and instead being heard as a constant narrator of his own biography. Regardless of how I feel about him on a personal level, this shit was a great watch and the ending hit hard. Still need to get his autobiography, though. There’s a nostalgic factor for me here since I was partially reminded of my grandpa while watching it. Blind Rating: 'eh
12. Queen & Slim (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres and discussed with someone immediately after. Fuck yeah, I enjoyed this one. Dat soundtrack and cinematography, bruh? 👌🏿 The throwback soundtrack, main characters’ racial group, and fact that they went to New Orleans definitely play a hand in why this one’s not atleast 1 spot lower. Blind Rating: 1/5
13. Dwelling in the Fuchon Mountains (China)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres during festival and attended discussion days later. I really like it. Was long, but in a good way. Similar to Ash is Purest White (2018) in that I kept thinking "please end here," but would be glad it didn't later. It's beautifully slothy and has absurdly long tracking shots. The cinematography during walking conversations is notable. Dat trick, tho. Blind Rating: 'eh
14. A Girl Missing (Japan)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres during festival and discussed with a group immediately after. Bruh~, this is a hell of a personal trial. Didn’t expect it to go the places it did. Blind Rating: 1/5
15. Dutch Angle: Chas Gerretsen & Apocalypse Now (Netherlands)
Tumblr media
Saw on MUBI on phone. I love it. This goes over his childhood (for 8 minutes), career paths, photography of 9/11/1973's Chilean coup d'etat, the 6 months he spent on-set photographing Apocalypse Now (1979), and him as a person. What I didn’t expect was how much he would get into the details of things happening during that film’s development. Along with those details are interesting photos presented excellently in a way that’s reminiscent of manga at times. I like the way the photos take center point and are treated like the foreground. It’s like the director and editor forced themselves to remain aware that the documentary was showcasing 15% of the total slides housed in the Nederlands Fotomuseum’s archives in Rotterdam and that most of his Apocalypse Now photos were never seen. Dat score, tho [Ex Machina (2014) vibes]. Blind Rating: 0/5
BTW, it had its official (Dutch national) release by EYE Filmmuseum on 12/19/19 in the Netherlands, so maybe it’ll come to the USA soon. 🤷🏿‍♂️ Forgot to mention it’s been added as a special feature to the 40th anniversary 4K blu-ray disc of Apocalypse Now: Final Cut (2019).
16. Receiver (Ireland)
Tumblr media
Saw on MUBI on phone. I really like it. A very interesting short film in three odd segments. First was disturbing; second was about activism, protests, and politics; third was about the person I assume the film was made for. All compose what I took as a film about the importance of having reliable sound and hearing. Needs to be watched alone with good sound quality (for immersion). Blind Rating: 'eh
17. Bacurau (Brazil)
Tumblr media
Saw in theatres during festival. I really like it. This was some Most Dangerous Game shit with a hell of an ending. The whole game is an allegory of civilized people's obsession with hunting wild animals for "sport". I really like the portrayal of history here and enjoyed the racial matters it lays bare. I can only imagine someone watching this without knowing a thing. Kinda wish I didn’t even read the description beforehand. Digging the soundtrack. Blind Rating: 1/5
18. Little Women (USA)
Tumblr media
Saw on 35mm and discussed with others on separate occasions. I really like it. This was just warming and sad. I felt for the main characters and actually felt satisfied with the way it ended. Considering the type of film, there are handful of typical things for me to complain about. That being said, the movie earned its stars back. I mean, did you not see their attic performances? Shit was dope. Blind Rating: ‘eh

Day 3:  #mayvinylchallenge : Instrumental Record Don't mind my mess.  I'm a slothy creative. There are a lot of instrumental records I could have chose...but it would have been slightly unfair or at best, an abridged bending of the theme.  Herbie Hancock's "Head Hunters"?  Did that in a previous May Vinyl Challenge.  Frank Zappa's "Hot Rats"?  "Willie The Pimp" renders it only semi-instrumental.  So, to keep it 100, I chose: 🔺️ Tortoise - Standards [2001] A sonic blast of rhythmic revolution is the only way to describe the fourth album from the Chicago post-rock unit.  Utilizing and incorporating more electronic elements in their music more than the previous three albums, "Standards", in my opinion, carves out a fresh lane for a new millennium and year, unknowingly setting a sonic tone for a year that would witness a catastrophic tragedy seven months after its release. From the opening blasts of the first track "Seneca", the Star-Spangled Banneresque bombast shakes you free of the previous jazzy efforts of their album "TNT", and sets you up for whatever comes your way.  And once the distorted drums drop in...you're off to the races with some distorto-manipulated post-rock, with slight hip hop and funk elements (trust me...I find the funk in everything).  The tracks flow through different vibes, but it all remains under the style and shimmer of the Tortoise sound.  And maybe I am crazy, the instrumentation of the song "Speakeasy" gives me "Elevators" by Outkast vibe... "Standards" is a Tortoise classic, setting the stage for the future experimentation that would grace later releases. Today's theme, brought to you by:  @michaellang256 Vinyl Challenge Conduit:  @jennn_erator 📷:  @rosemcgiggles Album cover photo:  LeBraneIV #vinylcommunity #vinylchallenge #vinyllust #vinyllife #vinyl #vinylcollector #records #wreckastow #mayvinylchallenge #instrumentalrecord #tortoise #standards #postrock #dopeness #chrislebrane https://www.instagram.com/p/CdG9q3mvGgp/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

So, Paimon, Kaeya, Herman Lisa (Genshin Impact) and Lucifer (Obey Me!)
Lucifer has the right mood for Kaeya rn. Also yesterday I was thinking Paimon has @a-chaotic-dumbass vibes (Treasure? Treasure?!)
I feel safe with these people but... not even Lucifer will be able to calm us down and I won't be able to sleep cuz someone is bound to stay awake and make noise or talk as if in a Shakespeare play *cough* Kaeya *cough*
Tagging: @elmariachu (I'm curious now~) @spoopy-fish-writes @squishy-slothie (it cannot be just Belphie, Kai. -_-'')
@somniprobe (also curious...) @sibit360 @noosey-woosey @shortnessangel @the-ghost-duck

Note
I'm doing ok, I got all four out and one grew in sideways so that one hurts more, but I can have warm liquids now (day 1 is just cold liquids, I'm so sick of only eating pudding and jello) so I've been devouring soup while having an ice pack on my cheek. (Also woke up while they were still working in my mouth, had a panic attack, scared the assistant with said panic attack, then got everything finished and I'm doing fine now with some heavy painkillers. But all in all from what I've heard mine went extremely easy
-slothy
Oh dear god. The waking up part sounds absolutely terrifying and the eating only cold liquids just sounds exhausting. I'm glad you're doing better now, tho! Sending you good vibes through the Internet ether ✨✨✨
