A figure steps into your view, looming over you and staring down at you. Watching as your life leaves you. You can’t make out many details, on account of your rapidly leaving life. Their skin is pale, practically paper white, and is framed by inky black waves of hair that spills down and over their shoulders. It looks a bit matted and damp, strands sticking to their forehead either from sweat or blood. Standing out against their skin is the crimson smear across the bottom half of their face, staining their pale skin red and dripping down their neck and clothes. A grin sits amongst the red full of teeth stained in much the same way as it stretches across their face. What little bit of light there is, catches the glint of four long canines that stand out menacingly as if they crave to be used. It seems like they already have been. You know this person. You know her. She is your end.

Potentially die. Don't fear death. While it's the end for most, it seems like the grim reaper just doesn't want you.
Characters
The Doctor
Edward/Edith Hayes (m/f) is one of the two that found you in the woods when you first awoke. E is optimistic, kind-hearted, and a bit timid. They strive to see the best in people and help who they can, even if it causes them to ignore the signs of danger around them.
The Witch
Sloan Ash (m/f/x) is the other of the two that found you in the woods when you first woke up. Sloan puts on an air of confidence, sarcasm, with a touch flirtation. A person who doesn't seem keen to stay in one place, yet seems to stay anyway.
The Deputy
Azael/Azura Herrera (m/f) is the deputy to the sheriff of San Arima, a man they were once proud to serve under. However the past couple years the sheriff has changed. Suspicious dealings and odd orders, something is going on that they are being kept out of and they will figure out what.
The Conman
Leonard/Lilith (m/f) is a relatively new addition to the town of San Arima. L is person who claims to be an "entrepreneur" who always ends up on the winning end of any endeavor they take, less so those they work with. They've said that this town is ripe with opportunity, for what isn't exactly clear.
The Widow
Morgan Faulkner (m/f/x) is a magus-hunter, a type of bounty hunter that specializes in dealings with the supernatural. Roughly 3 years ago, they lost their partner and spouse with no word or warning. Now Morgan has found their way to San Arima and they seem to want you dead, claiming you're just a monster wearing the face of the one they love.

you're a wanted person. that isn't new to you, but after years of working, someone. no. something is after you.
you were taught by the best, your mother, she was an amazing woman but she was too trusting and in the end, that was her downfall. you won't make that mistake. you're a killer, but a righteous one. you kill those who deserve it, the disposable.
with your abnormal abilities, of which only twenty-five percent of the population is gifted with. you can succeed in what she was never able to do, rid the world of sinners.
you work for the slaughterhouse, a bar... with a dark side; in a rowdy part of the city. your mother was the owner but she didn't pass it down to you, she passed it your younger twin siblings. she believed you were far too talented to sit behind a desk, dealing with paperwork.
you've traveled all over the world, exterminating. you've claimed plenty of people, but perhaps this time you went after the wrong one. having no other choice you flee back home, but you aren't safe there either, you never are.

play with a customizable mc [gender (male or female), physical appearance, personality, sexuality]
protect those you care about or turn your back on them when they need you.
romance, befriend, or make enemies between any of the sixteen characters. four gender selectable, six male, and six female.
decide what supernatural ability you were gifted with; telepathy, telekinesis, or teleportation [figure out how to develop it and what other ability you have]
define your mc's signature weapon, fighting style and overall skillset; how you feel about killing, and the supernatural abilities you were gifted with.
this story is rated 18+ for sexual themes, substance (drug and alcohol) use, explicit language, and violence. [more themes might be added later]

the tattoo artist [male or female] [ro] wren price – partner in crime. they've been by your side since you can remember. always with a bright smile and cheeky remarks, you can't think about how your life would look without them. though they act differently with others, more serious, with a glint in their eyes you can't quite figure out. they never look at you like that.
the bodyguard [male] [ro] theodore price – the older brother of your best friend. there's no doubt in your mind that they're related. he's protective over you, although you can't hold that against him as that's what he does for a living. protect people. he's hard to get to know on a deeper level and you can't help but wonder what's going on in his mind.
the detective [female] [ro] rori hayes – now, if you weren't yourself, perhaps you could have been friends with her. but unfortunately for you... she's extremely suspicious of you and set to bring you to justice. she's recently been promoted and she cannot afford to fail, not when her family is counting on her.
the chief deputy sheriff [male] [ro] charles butler – good ole charlie, you're acquainted with each other. he can't say he isn't a little impressed with you. but you're endangering the citizens of his city and that includes his little girl. he may not have any evidence on you but you need to be brought down, and he's going to be the one that books you.
the model [male] [ro] julien ripley – son of the sheriff. he always looks uncomfortable with his own father. he’s never talked to you before and you’re almost positive he has no opinion on you. he’s a very well known face, although you can tell he doesn’t like being stared at and overall talking to anyone. *male mcs only
the journalist [female] [ro] sloane campbell – she's fast alright and always seems to know your moves. too bad she isn't on your side. always trying to announce to the world, where you are and what you're planning to do next. good thing she's overlooked at her job, consistently being handed stories that, even you know, aren't going anywhere.
the bartender [male or female] [ro] hale/hart vaughn – a family friend, and your sister's best friend. with their tantalizing words, they don't know the meaning of being serious. they are quite insufferable and you can't seem to be able to get rid of them. you have a feeling if you did, your own sister would come after you.
the florist [female] [ro] paris graham– at first glance she doesn't appear to be anything special, but that would be wrong. she's a firework waiting to explode and you want to be there when it happens. her work doesn't suit her but you have a feeling, that being a florist isn't all that she does. *female mcs only
the apartment owner [male] [ro] nolan adams – he knows about you and what you do, but he doesn’t give off the feeling of someone who’d go running to tell. you’ve always come back to lay low at his apartment complex when you need to and as long as you pay on time he doesn’t care what you do.
the actor [female] [ro] ophelia wylie – a face from your past, one you can’t say you particularly enjoy facing again. she seems remorseful for what she did to you, in fact she looks like a completely different person and she’s offering to help you, but for what in exchange… after all, no one gives anything for free.
the crime lord [male] [ro] louis foster – of course you’ve heard of lou, you’d be an idiot if you didn’t. he's tried and failed to recruit you and he never fails. you’ve been warned before, it would be a mistake to make an enemy out of a king.
the informant [male] [ro] vincent sutton – it’s rare to ever see him out, only ever seen accompanying lou. if you had the ability to feel fear, you’d fear him. he shows every sign of being against you, but then again, it seems as if he does that to everyone around him as well.
the chef [male or female] [ro] mateo/melanie olsen – you see them quite often, as their restaurant is one of your favorites. they always serve you with a smile and if they do know you, they play oblivious. they're just happy to have a customer who enjoys their food.
the doctor [female] [ro] eileen yates – serene and calming, a voice who always knows exactly what to say. she may look innocent but she’s far from it, you’ve known her for years yet you don’t truly know her, for all you know eileen may not even be her name.
the accountant [female] [ro] felix price – the youngest of the price siblings, she helps out with all the money coming into and out of the slaughterhouse. she’s always been compassionate and reasonable. you can't imagine her hurting a fly.
the rival bar owner [male or female] [ro] kinslee dean – they own a bar just a couple streets down from yours. it’s always been a problem and they’re actively trying to shut down the slaughterhouse. but they’re surprisingly level-headed and want to 'handle' this problem with logic.
the owner of the slaughterhouse [male] archer – your younger brother, he’s honestly kind of a mess. he was not ready for this responsibility but he’s trying. the mischievous boy you grew up with, you don’t know where he is anymore.
the owner of the slaughterhouse [female] iris – your younger sister, she’s always been loud and bold. but she’s changed too, she’s calm and collected. she’s trying her best to help her brother along too.
the sheriff [male] lazlo ripley – a pompous man with nothing else to do but terrorize those he thinks are inferior to him.

getting what she wants
lena oberdorf x OC x USWNT x reader
part three of five
summary: you hope that your actions don't affect the national team before the olympics.
warnings: cheating
oc description here
the air in new york was thick with anticipation, the kind of electric energy that always surrounded a match, even a friendly.
but today, it wasn’t just about the game for you. there was something else simmering underneath the surface—a mix of emotions that you hadn’t quite been able to shake since the messy breakup with sloan three days before.
everyone knew about it by now, of course. your teammates, her teammates, mutual friends… it was impossible to keep anything quiet in the football world, especially when both of you were so connected to so many players.
you couldn’t even really escape it. but today, the pitch was your escape.
you tried to lose yourself in the familiar routine of preparing for the match. your bright blue cleats laced up, your mind running through tactical plays made by the new management, your body itching to release all the pent-up frustration and confusion from the last few weeks.
you couldn’t help but overhear sophia and trinity talking to tierna talking a few feet away, their voices hushed but carrying enough that you caught snippets while stretching.
"i mean, sloan was always going to have feelings for savannah," sophia said, her tone nonchalant.
"it’s no surprise they’re back together now."
"yeah, but still... y/n doesn’t deserve all of this," trinity muttered, glancing in your direction before looking back at sophia.
"i mean, come on. the whole thing was a mess."
"sloan wasn’t right for y/n, and we all knew it. it was only a matter of time before this happened. i just wished it didn’t happen now before the olympics. maybe this will be a good time for y/n to channel her anger into motivation. " tierna nodded in agreement, her arms crossed.
you felt your chest tighten at their words. even though you knew they were right—everyone was right—it didn’t make it any easier.
the breakup with sloan had been inevitable, but that didn’t stop the hurt. it didn’t erase the guilt of everything that had happened, especially with lena.
it stings knowing that savannah and sloan are basically back together– just three days after you guys officially broke up. sloan was never a victim, you knew that, but her making you out to be the bad guy was something you’ve never seen from her in the three years you had with her.
the whirlwind of emotions you’d been riding since– who knows when– felt like it was spinning out of control, and this game against mexico was your only chance to anchor yourself, even if just for ninety minutes.
you shook your head, trying to clear your thoughts as you stood up from the bench. being in the starting lineup was good, you had enough time to clear your head instead of overthinking on the bench.
"it’s just a game," you muttered to yourself, but deep down, you knew it was more than that.
this was your chance to prove yourself, not only to your teammates but to your new coach, emma hayes. she hadn’t been around long, but you could already feel the shift in the team. and you knew she was watching, evaluating, trying to piece together her starting eleven for the olympics.
you needed to show her that you belonged in that lineup—that you were ready for the pressure.
as you stepped onto the field outside of the tunnel, the excitement of the crowd filled your ears, but all you could focus on was the ball that was going to be at your feet, the opposing players that will be in front of you, and the tactical decisions you’d been preparing for all week.
the weight of everything else—lena, sloan, the drama—was still there, but for now, you shoved it to the back of your mind.
the game kicked off, and immediately, you found your rhythm.
your passes were sharp, your vision on point. mexico’s defense was tight, but as the best attacking midfielder in the world– you moved through them with ease, linking up with your teammates, pushing forward with purpose.
you gave your front line– sophia, trinity, and mallory– many great chances. which they all missed or got blocked. that is okay, for now. it's the tenth minute and with each touch of the ball, you felt more in control, more focused.
about fifteen minutes in, you spotted an opening in mexico’s backline as you pushed yourself up a bit– as mallory pulled herself back from an opportunity before.
you made a run, breaking past the defenders onside, and sophia found you with a perfectly timed through ball.
without hesitation, you took a shot. the ball curved beautifully past the goalkeeper and hit the back of the net after you took the shot outside of the box.
the stadium erupted in cheers, but all you felt was a rush of adrenaline and satisfaction.
you ran to the corner of the pitch with your arms out. most of the team sprinted to you and gave you hugs and praises. you needed that goal.
the first goal was always the hardest, but you weren’t done yet. not even close.
"y/n that was fucking amazing!" trinity called as she jogged up beside you, jumping on your back.
you laughed as you gave her the five second piggy-back ride before she pulled herself from your body.
"thanks trin," you replied, your mind already moving on to the next play.
as the first half wore on, the pressure from mexico intensified. they were pushing hard to equalize, but you were locked in.
every tackle, every pass, every decision you made was calculated, determined. you weren’t going to let anything slip.
in fact, a commentator on television mentions that you haven’t made an error yet.
right before halftime, you did it again. this time, it was a quick counterattack.
mallory drove the ball up the wing and sent a low cross into the box. you were there, in the right place at the right time, and with a swift touch, you redirected the ball into the net for your second goal.
"let’s fucking go!!!!" you heard mallory scream, running up to hug you.
the rest of the team swarmed around, congratulating you, but again, you kept it low-key.
you were locked in—laser-focused on what needed to be done. you couldn’t afford to let anything distract you, especially not now.
some of the girls knew what has gotten into you– but they’re still amazed.
at halftime, the locker room was buzzing with excitement. two-nil up against mexico was a good place to be, but you weren’t satisfied yet.
this was strange, usually you’re the happiest person on the planet when you score one goal each match. suddenly, two goals feels like lightwork for you.
you needed to do more.
as you sat down to catch your breath, you felt sophia sit next to you.
"you’re killing it out there," she said, offering a small smile.
"emma’s definitely gonna notice. no way she’s not starting you in the olympics after this." trinity joined in the conversation, putting her arm around your shoulders as you rested your head on hers.
you needed the comfort.
"thanks," you muttered, still feeling the weight of everything else swirling in your mind.
"hey," sophia lowered her voice, leaning in a bit closer.
"i know everything with sloan has been... a lot. but you’re not a bad person, y/n. you and sloan... it wasn’t going to work out in the long run, and you know that." she puts her hand on your knee.
"it’s just... i feel like i messed up too. with lena." you glanced at her, the guilt still gnawing at you.
trinity raised an eyebrow.
sophia already knew that you hooked up with lena while with sloan, thanks to sloan blasting the portland thorns group chat about the discovery after you guys broke up.
when sam told you she did that, you sighed.
of course someone had to be the bad guy– might as well be me. you thought.
"lena? you didn’t mess up, y/n. sloan wasn’t treating you right, and it’s not like she wasn’t seeing savannah. breaking up was the right thing to do, for both of you."
“what happened?” trinity asked.
“i hooked up with lena.” you say, nervous for trinity’s reaction.
“lena who?” trinity asks.
“oberdorf, my teammate at bayern.” you say.
“ohh, the one who tackles.” trinity jokes, making the conversation feel lighter than it was.
before you could respond, the coaches started calling everyone back out for the second half.
you stood up, taking a deep breath. you had forty-five more minutes to show what you could do, to leave everything on the field.
and that’s exactly what you did.
in the 70th minute, you found the perfect opportunity to seal your performance.
trinity made a darting run down the right flank, drawing the defense toward her. you hung back, waiting just outside the box. she spotted you and sent a precise pass your way. you took a touch, steadying the ball, then fired it into the top corner.
hat trick.
the stadium exploded with cheers, your teammates mobbing you in celebration, but all you could feel was the relief. it was over.
now you were satisfied. the game was done, and you’d done exactly what you needed to do.
"holy shit, y/n!" trinity exclaimed, grinning as she wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
"you’re on fire today." you felt naomi jump on your back after saying that.
you managed a small smile, but inside, your emotions were a mess.
the high from the game clashed with the low from everything that had been happening off the pitch. the guilt, the uncertainty, it was all still there.
as the team made their way back to the locker room after the game, you could feel the weight returning.
the game had been a temporary reprieve, but now you were back to reality. and that reality included the fallout from your breakup.
once inside, as you peeled off your sweat-soaked jersey, emily passed by without a word.
she hadn’t been talking to you much lately as before. in fact, the arsenal defender hasn't spoken to you once since the national break started. you knew why—she was closer to sloan than to you.
her friendship and loyalty was for your ex.
it stung, but you couldn’t really blame her. this was messy for everyone involved.
some of the girls saw the sad look you gave emily.
"don’t worry about her," mallory said quietly, noticing your glance.
"she’ll come around again. just give it time."
you nodded, though it didn’t do much to ease the tightness in your chest.
again, the girls knew what you were thinking. as if your mind was on full display.
"you’re not a bad person," trinity added from the bench nearby, her tone gentle but firm.
"it’s just... you and sloan weren’t right for each other. that doesn’t make you a bad person."
"yeah," sophia chimed in.
you swallowed hard, their words settling over you like a blanket of comfort, but it didn’t erase the guilt entirely.
"i just want to move on," you muttered, more to yourself than to them.
"and you will," tierna said, giving you a reassuring nod.
"after d.c., it’s olympic time. focus on that. new chapter, new start." crystal says.
you knew she was right.
the olympics were just around the corner, and you couldn’t afford to dwell on the past. it was time to let go, to move on.
"yeah," you agreed quietly, mostly to convince yourself.
"a new start."

For this post to be consistent:
. Your character must be an MC in the game or an MC in one of your fanworks.
. Your character must fit into the timeline/canon of the game and not just live in the same era.

Murder at Vista Heights Chapter 6
Series: Law’s End
Episode 1: Murder at Vista Heights
Fandom: The Royal Romance (loosely, there’s not much canon in here).
Pairings: None yet
Word Count: 2,500
Rating: MA
A/N: This counts as @karahalloway ask from my 1500 followers celebration post on my main account @angelasscribbles.
Warnings for series: adult themes, any given chapter may contain murder, violence, language, drinking, drug use, etc.
My other stuff can be found on my main blog @angelasscribbles here is the Master List.

The homicide division of the seventh precinct had been plunged into chaos. All three interrogation rooms were in use, leaving a person of interest cooling his heels in the waiting area.
Riley was trying to get comments from anyone that would talk to her. Max had narrowly evaded being tossed out of the station when he had attempted to get photos of William Sloan as he was brought in for questioning.
The mayor was livid at being called late in the evening by one of her biggest campaign contributors. “I don’t care what fucking time it is or how many hours you already worked today!” Madeleine was yelling at a lithe redhead with her hair pinned immaculately in place despite her protestations over the lateness of the hour.
Olivia Nevrakis narrowed her eyes at her boss. “And I don’t care how much money Sloan Enterprises has donated to your re-election campaign. If he’s a suspect, he has to be questioned, just like everyone else!”
“William Sloan most certainly did not murder Trent Hayes! Are you out of your mind?”
Olivia doubled down. “If there wasn’t some reason to suspect him, Liam wouldn’t have brought him in for questioning!”
While the mayor and the DA were having their showdown, Drake Walker was pacing the floor, waiting for his turn in interrogation.
He was a person of interest. Presumably, because someone had ratted him out to the police about his business relationship with William Sloan. His eyes scoured the open office area until he spotted her.
Riley saw him coming and made a strategic exit to the woman’s room. She almost ran over the sketch artist from earlier. “Oof! Sorry!”
“It’s okay,” Lillith assured her. “Who are you hiding from?”
“What makes you think I’m hiding from anyone?”
“I recognize the panic.”
“Wait. Who are you hiding from?”
“My sister.”
Riley’s brain spun to catch up. Then realization washed over her. She should have made the connection before. Nevrakis was not a common name. “The DA is your sister?”
Lilith flinched a little. “Half-sister. She hates me.”
“Why?”
Lilith shrugged. “Something about my whore of a mother breaking her mother’s heart.”
“Oh….” Riley was rarely struck speechless, but she had no idea how to respond to that.
“Sorry!” Lilith dropped her face into her hands. “That was TMI and now I’ve made things awkward!”
“No, no, you’re fine!” Riley assured her. “Trust me. As a reporter, I’ve heard every damn thing. That’s not even in the top ten for most awkward.”
Lilith smiled wanly. “I’d like to hear that top ten list then.”
“Sure. We should get drinks sometime.”
“Really?” The sketch artist searched her face to see if she was joking.
“Yeah, why not?”
“Okay, yeah, I’d like that.” This time, the smile was bigger, brighter. Lilith didn’t have a lot of friends, tended to be socially awkward, and was used to being somewhat of a pariah in certain upper society circles because of her status as the bastard child of an extramarital affair.
Riley eased the door open to peer through the crack. “Unless you have any information about the case you’re willing to give me, I need to get back out there.”
Meanwhile, in Interrogation Room One…
“I get it.” Flynn eyed the man sitting across the table from him. “Beautiful woman. Rich, powerful husband. You don’t want to get sidewise with him, so when Trent started blackmailing her, threatening her—”
“I told you I know nothing about that!” Dean yanked on the chains holding him to the table, making the hard metal slam against the wood with a satisfying clang.
“You didn’t know he was blackmailing her?”
“No!”
“Did you know he found out about the affair?”
“No!”
“So, you don’t deny the affair?”
“What?” Dean looked up at him with a defeated expression. “No.”
“Okay, good. We’re getting somewhere. So, you were sleeping with her and—”
“I love her!”
“Okay, okay.” Flynn held his hands up in surrender. “You’re in love. And this man threatened her—”
Dean heaved a sigh and slumped back in his seat. “How many times do I have to tell you that I knew nothing about that?”
Interrogation Room Two….
“Here you go, buddy.” Liam sat a bottle of ice-cold water on the table and slid it across to the CEO of Sloan Enterprises. “Sorry about all this. But we have evidence your wife is having an affair and was being blackmailed by the victim. You understand how that gives you motive, right?”
William fixed the detective with a steely glare, remaining silent.
“So, how did it go down? She missed a payment? He called you up and told you? When confronted with proof of the affair, you snapped, shot the messenger so to speak? It’s understandable. Heat of the moment. The sooner you tell me what happened, the sooner I can help you.”
William leaned forward and pushed the water bottle back across the table. “I want my lawyer. Now!”
Interrogation Room Three….
Bertrand stood in the doorway of the room in his somehow perfectly pressed suit and tapped a file folder against the palm of his other hand as he regarded the woman in front of him. “Did you do it yourself, or did you have someone else shoot him? Leo Rys, maybe?”
Katie sniffed as she lifted an imperious gaze to the man across from her. “I had nothing to do with Trent’s death, but I would certainly like to thank whoever did. He was the worst kind of pond scum, and he won’t be missed.”
“Not exactly the type of sentiments that will exonerate you, Mrs. Sloan.”
She gave him a coy smile. “Please. Call me Katie.”
Bertrand’s dour expression never changed. “I don’t think you grasp the gravity of the situation, Mrs. Sloan.”
A mirthful laugh bubbled out of her. “I’m not worried because I didn’t do it.”
“Who else had more of a motive than you?”
“I don’t know. Why don’t you talk to that psycho he cheated on me with?” Her face lit up with clear hatred.
Bertrand languidly raised an eyebrow. “And that would be?”
“Sabrina Simmons!”
“Are they still an item?”
“If they are, he’s cheating on her, I guarantee it, and you know what they say about a woman scorned. Besides, she has a history of stalking behavior. She’s fucking crazy!”
Bertrand made a noncommittal sound in his throat as he jotted the name down on his notepad.
Back in the main office area…
Riley was trying to sweet talk a crime scene investigator when Drake caught up with her. “Rashad. That’s a beautiful name.”
“Thanks.” Even with his dark complexion, the blush that spread across his features was noticeable.
“There you are!” Drake’s voice boomed out as he grasped her upper arm firmly and pulled her away from Rashad. “I think we’re overdue for a conversation.”
“I’m sure I don’t know what—”
Rashad was suddenly serious. “Hey! Is everything okay?”
Riley’s eyes darted back and forth between the two men, noting the tension in both sets of shoulders. Diffusing the situation was preferable to escalating it, so she smiled sweetly at Rashad. “It’s fine. He’s right. We have a previous…. agreement we need to discuss.”
“Oh.” The other man looked disappointed, but excused himself with a regretful glance back at the reporter.
“Did you rat me out to the cops, Riley?” Drake asked as he pulled her to the side of the room for a private conversation.
“Absolutely not.”
“Then why have I been brought in for questioning? Why is my client in an interrogation room right now?”
“Your client is in an interrogation room because his wife got busted with her lover tonight by the lead detective on the case.” Riley pulled her arm out of his grasp, but moved her body closer to his. “As for figuring out he hired you as a PI, I’m assuming that was their own detective work because I did not rat you out!”
He wanted to believe her. All CCPD had to do to find him was to run Sloan’s financials. Or Max’s. “Hm. Why do I have a feeling you’re going to be a giant pain in my ass? Tell me this, who pointed them in the Sloan’s direction in the first place?”
“A private citizen who witnessed—”
Drake’s lips pressed into a thin line as he shook his head. “Maxwell Beaumont was not a private citizen when he took those photographs!”
A scathing voice cut through their conversation. “Did she sleep with you for information, too?”
They both turned to find Liam approaching, with Max hot on his heels.
Drake took a step back in confusion. “What? We haven’t slept together!”
“Yet,” Max mumbled under his breath. His eyes widened when he realized Liam might have heard him. He cleared his throat and began to fiddle with his camera, pretending to ignore the conversation.
Riley shot a murderous expression at Liam. “For the last time, Liam, that’s not what happened!”
Drake blinked as he processed the insinuation. Moving his attention back to Riley, he asked, “You slept with him for information?”
“No, I did not.” She replied through gritted teeth.
“Come on, Walker.” Liam gestured toward the interrogation room. “We need to have a discussion about what services you provided for William Sloan.”
Drake turned his head to watch Riley over his shoulder as he followed the detective, mumbling the whole time about client privacy.
As Liam and Drake walked down the hall toward the interrogation rooms, they passed William Sloan and his lawyer, Sadie McGraw, on their way out.
The moment Madeleine saw William and Sadie, she scurried after them, apologizing profusely for the misunderstanding.
Bertrand and Flynn walked into the open office area deep in conversation, comparing notes about their respective interrogations. Olivia approached them before they could make it to Bertrand’s office, a dark haired young man trailing behind her. She wasted no time demanding answers about the investigation.
Bertrand ushered everyone into his office, where the DA was given all the latest updates on the case.
When the detectives were finished talking, Olivia nodded her head. “Between Trent’s bank account showing deposits from Katie and Dean’s confession of the affair, I think Kiara will sign off on a search warrant for the Sloan properties and bank accounts.” She turned to bark at the law intern who had been shadowing her for weeks. “Anton! Get Judge Theron on the phone!”
“Yes, ma’am!” Anton squeaked as he fumbled for his phone.
Thirty minutes later, the CCPD had a search warrant, Drake was released from interrogation and Bertrand was yelling at Riley and Max to get out of his station house.
“What are you doing at my desk?”
Riley looked up into Liam’s stormy expression as she closed the lid of her laptop. “Updating my story. I promise I didn’t look through your files!”
“This time.”
“That’s what I said.” She gave him a disarming smile as she rose and started stuffing the computer, notepads, and pens into her taupe, Saffiano leather Kate Spade laptop tote. “I didn’t read any of your files this time.”
It had been a long day; he was tired; he was irritated; he was ready for a break in this case… and yet something about her infectious grin and the teasing lilt in her voice pulled a begrudging smile from him. He shook his head in wonderment. How did she keep getting under his skin?
He called out to her as she walked away. “Hey, Riley!”
She turned back to face him. “Yeah?”
“Thank you. Your intel was actually helpful tonight.”
Her grin broadened into a full fledged smile, lighting up her whole face. “You’re welcome, detective. See you around.”
She found Drake and Max both waiting for her at the homicide office door. She directed her attention to Drake. “What are you still doing here?”
“Just got out of interrogation, thanks to someone who doesn’t understand confidentiality.” There was no accusation in his tone, just a simple statement of fact.
“It’s not my fault your client was implicated in a homicide.”
“Oh, I’m not blaming you.” He replied as he looked past her to shoot daggers at Max.
Max blinked. “What did I do?”
Drake shook his head as he pushed off the wall he’d been leaning against. “Come on, I’ll walk you out.”
“Oh, that’s not necessary. She’s with me.” Max flushed a deep shade of crimson. “We’re both in my car, I mean!”
“Then I’ll walk you both out. Can’t be too careful. It’s late, and this is Cordonia City.”
“I’m perfectly capable of protecting her.”
Drake’s eyes ran quickly and dismissively over the younger man. “Sure you are, kid.”
The three stepped out into the dimly lit, air-conditioned hallway as Liam watched them leave with curiosity, regret, and annoyance mingling in his expression.
The ancient, decrepit elevator dinged as it rocked to a stop on the first floor and the doors slid creakily open.
Neville VanCouer was arguing with the front desk sergeant. “I heard suspects were brought in for questioning. I just want to get a statement—”
“Heard? Or read it in my story?” Riley gloated.
Neville looked like his head was about to explode. “Why were they allowed in?”
The desk sergeant’s bored expression never changed as he shrugged. “Came in with a homicide detective.”
“How?”
Another shrug from the sergeant.
Neville spun on Riley. “The updates you’ve been posting…someone is giving you insider information!”
She gave him a saccharine sweet smile. “Or I’m just a better reporter than you.”
Neville took a step toward her, but Drake moved quickly, inserting himself between Riley and the other reporter. “Why don’t you go harass someone else?”
Neville glared at Drake, but he stepped back. The showdown was broken by Neville’s photograph, who had just reappeared from the men’s room. “Hey! That’s the guy that told me there was a door open around back!”
Max lifted a shoulder innocently. “There was when I was back there.”
The other man’s eyes narrowed. “Then why haven’t any crime scene photos been published anywhere?”
“Ah…. technical difficulties.”
The photographer looked skeptically between Max and Neville, as if trying to decide if Max was lying.
Neville shook his head, “It’s not worth it, Tariq. Come on, let’s go.”
“See?” Drake was almost gloating. “You needed me.”
Riley rolled her eyes. “Neville is annoying and slimy, but he’s not dangerous.”
“Yeah,” Max chimed in, “And we’re standing in a police station.”
“Listen.” Riley decided to get the elephant in the room out of the way. “I know you think I threw you under the bus with Liam. I’ll understand if you want to cancel our dinner plans.”
“Oh, we’re still going to dinner.”
Riley’s brows furrowed in confusion. “But I thought you said—”
“I said you were going to be a giant pain in my ass.” His eyes tracked across her face. “But something tells me you’re worth all the trouble.”

who: Sloan Benowitz & Tamara Hayes @drtamarahayes
where: Merrock Hospital
when: Monday, August 5th, 2024 end of shift
what: both medical professionals decide to get a drink after work to catch up.
Life at the hospital could be a toss up, one day it was just consults and office appointments, other days she was scrubbing in for her patients surgeries, then other days -- like today -- she was covering for emergency surgery. It was a thrill, and a rush, but it was exhausting, so after she changed out of her scrubs she donned a pair of simple slim cut dark demin shorts, tank top, and pair of sandals. Honestly, it felt a lot better as she headed down the hallway to one of her fellow friends office and knocked, "Hey, Tam." she called in to the dark haired woman. "Was thinking it's still gorgeous out did you want to go grab or something?" Sloan was still adjusting to being back and the first eight-ish months had been establishing herself with the community of doctors, nurses, and fellow hospital personnel. Now she was trying her hardest to get involved in other things, make time for friends, hell, make friends that weren't just about the job. Of course, Tamara was another doctor but they could be friends outside of work, at least that's what Sloan reasoned.

Caught Eyes From A Mile Away - My House, My Home (Chapter 1)
pairing: meredith grey x cormac hayes word count: 1142 request: yes/no prompt/summary: Meredith couldn't understand Cristina's gift. And no it wasn't down to his accent. Hayes was obnoxious, witty and gave as good as he got. The more Meredith found out about him, the more Meredith got confused about her own feelings. Cormac Hayes and Meredith Grey through season 17 because I still think they deserved better. ao3: saiwriteswords
Cormac Hayes was insufferable. Meredith couldn’t remember the last time she had wanted to kick someone so badly. In a short amount of time though, Cormac Hayes had created and put himself right at the top of a list of people she wanted to kick. This was her house. Her hospital. Her people. She’d grown up here. Done her residency here. Met her late husband here. Met Zola and had Bailey here. What right did a know-it-all, bald, Irish doctor have to come in and through his weight around? She’d had the same rant going on in her head after morning rounds. It wasn’t like she expected him to just bow down to her but maybe some basic manners from him would be welcome.
Their interaction in the CT room hadn’t helped matters.
“Maybe you haven’t seen many sarcomas.”
Who the hell did he think he was? She wasn’t some idiot intern. She was Meredith Grey. Chief of General Surgery at Grey-Sloan. But she couldn’t kick off at the new guy, especially when she had only just come back and she still wasn’t entirely sure how Bailey felt about her right now. So, she bit back a more scathing comment and instead let him know that this had been her patient a couple of years ago, hoping that would help him understand. Apparently not.
“So, your medical opinion is you did shoddy work?”
Maybe it was motherhood that mellowed her. Or maybe it was just the fact she was used to surgeons with way too big an ego doubting her capabilities. Either way, she knew that there wasn’t a point in fighting with him. Not unless it was for the sake of their patient. Her patient. But there was no way she was going to leave that room without having the last word.
She could deal with surgeons with big egos. Her husband had been one. This wasn’t new territory. Bite your tongue, take a deep breath. Hopefully, she wouldn’t have to work with him too much. She could just make someone else on her service take any cases that he would need a general consult for, right? Perks of the job.
Meredith could have dealt with that thought and gotten through the rest of the day if it wasn’t for the fact that Hayes thought it was a good idea to scare Jamie and her mother with thoughts of a tumour. Was he actually insane? There was no conclusive evidence to even lead them to believe that there was a tumour. This was a kid for crying out loud! A young girl who needed her doctors to ease her worries. A single mother who needed to know that her daughter was going to be okay.
“This had got nothing to do with what I want.”
Then why scare a kid? He worked in paeds, he wasn’t some kind of intern. He should know how these kids worked, and how their parents worked. You had to have a more gentle approach with them. Meredith wasn’t just feeling angry at this point. It had turned into confusion. Why had the hospital hired him? It definitely wasn’t down to his bedside manner, that was for sure.
---
She’d had to go through an entire breathing exercise before she could go into the OR with him. She couldn’t find anyone to vent to, so it was the best that Meredith could do at the time. The minute they got the biopsy back, Meredith was ready to take over the OR. She wasn’t going to wait around and let Hayes take the reigns. Her house. Her home. She was a damn good surgeon and she knew what she was doing.
“You saw that from a scan?”
Meredith wasn’t going to even bother replying to that. Jamie had been her patient and funnily enough, a patient’s medical history did count for something.
---
Post-op Hayes showed a different side to himself. Maybe Meredith could understand why he was in paeds because a quick couple of words from him seemed to put Jamie at ease about her crush. It was a side of him that she hadn’t seen yet. And sure, they’d only been working together for a day but this was a side of him she thought she should have seen sooner considering his speciality.
---
The rest of her day had gone by pretty quickly though. Something she was glad about. And no more run-ins with Hayes, which was a relief. She really didn’t know how to read the new Co-Chief of Paediatric Surgery. She just wanted Alex to come back. She could still help with the cases, just not any of the ones that Hayes was working on.
With her shift finally done, Meredith grabbed her things from the Attendings’ Lounge and headed for the elevator. All she wanted to do was go home to her babies and grab a large glass of wine once they’d gone to bed. Hayes stepping into the elevator was not what she needed. Not at the end of a shift when she was exhausted and was still trying to figure out what Cristiana’s present was. None of the residents could find whatever gift it was she had sent. As exhausted as she was though, there was no way she could leave what had happened today slide. Meredith needed to know what Hayes had been thinking when he had scared Jamie with talks of a potential tumour.
“My wife’s doctors didn’t pay me that respect when she died.”
Oh. His wife. Late wife. Doctors. The puzzle pieces slotted into place for Meredith. She hadn’t known. How was she meant to? He was a widow. Like her. And apparently, the situation hadn’t been helped by his wife’s doctors. Maybe she could understand why he wanted to be upfront with his patients then. He didn’t want them going through the same thing as he had. Meredith still thought his delivery could use some work considering how upset Jamie had been when she’d gotten to the room but Meredith understood now.
“I can see why you were missed.”
She didn’t know what to reply to that and that wasn’t helped by the incessant pinging from her phone. When she finally looked down, it seemed like Cristina thought it was time to finally tell her what her gift was. Only, it wasn’t a thing. Cristiana had sent her a person. A full person. An Irish, Chief of Paeds if she was going to be exact. Meredith felt her stomach do a weird flip and by the time she looked back up, Hayes was walking away. She didn’t have the time to figure out what that weird stomach flip meant. Or maybe she just didn’t want to. Either way, she wanted to go home and have a large glass of wine. And maybe a long chat with Cristina.

Rank your favorite LIs within your favorite stories. (i.e., rank the OH lis, BOLAS lis, etc.)
Hey Nonny,
Thank you for the ask! I want to preface that these are my opinions, and others have different opinions, and that's all right. I'll do this for all the Choices stories I've read (and remember! lol). But I'll start with the 2 multiple LI stories I write for first.
Open Heart
Tobias Carrick - I know he wasn't an LI, but it's not my fault PB is stupid! lol
Ethan Ramsey
Bryce Lahela
Jackie Varma
Raf Aveiro
Wake the Dead
Eli SIpes
Troy Hassan
Shannon Fox
Angel Savage
Sledge
More Below
A Courtesan of Rome
Cassius (from what I remember lol)
Sabina
Syphax (in fairness, I never completed the route with him)
Julius Ceasar (hated the fucker, but he was hot as hell lol)
Desire & Decorum
Ernest Sinclaire I really like all the other LIs, but I'm eternally devoted to Ernest. lol I've never been able to pick anyone else.
Foreign Affairs
Blaine Hayes (M and F Versions)
Tatum Mendoza
Ayna Seth
The Freshman Series
Zig Ortega (eternally devoted to Zig! lol)
Becca Davenport
James Ashton
Chris Powell
Kaitlin Liao
Guinevere
Tie. I loved Arthur and Lancelot, I can't pick! lol
Hot Couture
Marco Di Vincenzo
Luz Estrada
Hazel Nguyen
Travis McKenzie (really not my type...)
LoveHacks
Marc Collins
Ben Park
Leah Myers
My Two First Loves
Noah Harris (Bad Boy/Default) LOVE Noah
Ava Lawrence (Best Friend/Default)
Mason Jennings (Childhood Crush/Default) Really didn't care for him.
Perfect Match
Damian Nazario
Alana Kusuma (sorry, she's hot) Didn't romance others. Sloane irritated me, and Hayden... they're a robot. lol
Queen B
Ian Kingsley (Sorry, not sorry!) Didn't romance others, Zoey was too friend zoned for me, and Poppy, absofreakingloutely NOT.
Red Carpet Diaries * I'm only about 5 chapters in - so this is subject to change.
Matt Rodriguez Really don't know enough about the rest just yet. Teja's stupid hat ruined her for me.
The Royal Romance
Drake Walker (Sorry, curmudgeons with a soft spot for LI are my kryptonite)
Liam Rys
Hana Lee (Love her, but to quote Hozier, she's too sweet for me)
Maxwell Beaumont (he's totally friend-zoned for me)
Rules of Engagement
(I barely remember this story, but from what I recall:)
William (Business Guy)
Leo (Prince)
Dean (Bartender)
The Unexpected Heiress
John Somerset
Gemma Montjoy
Hugh Crawford
Veil of Secrets *
(I am 11 chapters in, but pretty confident with my choices here:)
Grant Emerson
Naomi Silverhawk
Flynn O'Malley
Kate O'Malley
I started BOLAS but didn't get far. Based on what I read, I would say:
Mal Volari
Nia Elarious
I'm too human-centric for Tyril or Imtura, and I never met the others.
Thanks for the ask, Nonny!

with parents that worked more often than not, allegra and artemis were left under the care of babysitters, all of whom didn’t pay much attention to them while they busied themselves. but when the cats are away, the mice will play.
the sisters usually plotting together to get out of the house without the babysitter knowing, and it worked more often than not
from a young age allegra was always pushing boundaries set by her parents to see how far it could go before it broke. at some point along the way it became a silent agreement that her parents gave up trying to rein her in and allegra did whatever she wanted.
where allegra was, artemis was right there beside her - the two were thick as thieves growing up and allegra was incredibly protective of her sister
however, the older allegra got the more off the rails she went
what was once seen as just a super fun big sister was now a hot mess of a human
by the time high school finished, most of her peers knew her as hurricane hayes.
she was the life and soul of a party, she was the social butterfly, she was all consuming. she still is.
never one to be tamed, allegra bailed on huntsville to go to college (and travel) she was off experiencing life and having the time of her life doing it.
she graduated college and got into an argument with her parents. they demanded she come home and settle down and ever the defiant, allegra refused. nasty words were thrown both ways and allegra was cut off - financially and family
over the years she had tried to call to speak to artemis but the tone on the phone implied that she was blocked from reaching them. she blamed her parents from keeping her from speaking to her sister - little did allegra know that by this time the paradox had hit
enraged that they'd do such a thing, out of spite she never went home for the holidays and continued to live her life outside of huntsville.
it wasn't until years later that she bit the bullet and headed home that she found out what had really been going on back in huntsville.
when she first met artemis after all that time away she sobbed at how much she had missed of her sisters life and that she wasn't there for her when she needed her. she still feels guilty for that.
she took a job at the sasquatch and sloane asked her to provide some music when she heard allegra play her guitar one day
she vowed to do better for artemis, but she's still hurricane hayes, some things never change.
OTHER NOTES;
allegra's a wild child, can't be tamed, could never settle down and stay in one place or stay in a relationship - kind of wants to mellow out and maybe settle now but old habits die hard
previously had issues with substance abuse thanks to her partying days
she's been back home for a year now
plays guitar and piano, does some in house music for the bar
