               “I don’t like how that one looks,” Kaos said.

               Perry stared at him for a solid minute. Kaos had asked (demanded) that she show him what English looked like after she had been complaining about how much a headache trying to read and write in Skylish was for her. He hadn’t quite grasped the fact that Skylish was an entirely different form of reading than she was used to, insisting that since they were phonetically the same, surely the written form isn’t that different. Trying to explain the difference between ‘one symbol equals one word’ versus ‘multiple letters equaling one word’ wasn’t quite sinking in. Thus, Perry begrudgingly agreed to show him exactly what her alphabet looked like. She hadn’t even gotten past the letter ‘E’ before he made this new complaint.     

               “What do you mean ‘I don’t like how that one looks’?” she asked. “I mean,” he said. “I don’t like how that one looks.” Perry rolled her eyes. “I get that. But what do you mean ‘I don’t like how that one looks’? she reiterated. “Which one are you talking about?”

               “That one,” Kaos stressed, pointing to the letter ‘C’. “I don’t like that one. What is it?” Perry gave him a side eye in concern. “That’s the letter ‘C’,” she told him. “Wh-why do you not like that one?”

               “It looks stupid,” he grumbled. “It’s just a curved line.”

               “Hate to break it to you, but a lot of English letters are just curved lines,” she replied. “Let me get through all them before you make any lasting opinions on them, please.” Kaos begrudgingly backed off, muttering to himself. “Thank you,” Perry said. She then hurriedly wrote down the rest of the alphabet as neatly as she could. This was already turning into an ordeal, and she was already mentally preparing herself for the headache this would bring.

 “Alright, so these are the twenty-six letters that English has,” Perry explained. “Each one makes a different sound. Putting them together is what forms our words.” She looked over to Kaos to make sure he was following. Explaining this twice was not something she wanted to do. At his nod, she then went through each letter; saying what it was and which sounds they made. At the letter ‘K’, however, she was stopped by him. “I thought you said that one made the ‘kuh’ sound!” He complained. “It does,” she agreed. “But this one also makes the ‘kuh’ sound.”

               “Why do you have two of them?!” Kaos argued. “Surely you only need one!” Perry took a deep breath. This was arguably funny, but if she started laughing that was only going to drag this out. “Because this one,” she said, pointing to ‘C’. “Also makes the ‘chuh’ and ‘ci’ sounds. By put-“

               “Then why does it also make the ‘kuh’ sound?” Kaos objected.

        ��      “I was getting to that,” Perry sighed. “Let me finish. By putting an ‘H’ after the ‘C’, you get the ‘chuh’ sound. And by putting an ‘I’ or an ‘E’ after it, you get the ‘ci’ sound. However, there are a lot of words that do not have an ‘E’, ‘I’, or ‘H’ after the ‘C’. Therefore, it needs to be able to make a sound on it’s own. And the people who invented English decided it needs to make the ‘kuh’ sound in that case. Couldn’t tell you why.”

               “It’s still incredibly stupid to have a second letter that makes the same sound as another,” he debated. “Why not just cut out those ones?”

“Dude,” Perry deadpanned. “I did not make the language.”

“What are you two doing?” a third voice asked. Oh thank God. It was Spyro. Perry was not going to have to deal with this stupidity alone. She pointed to Kaos. “He’s having beef with my written language,” she explained. “What?” Spyro repeated. “Her language is very convoluted,” Kaos insisted. “There’s letters that repeat the same sounds as others. It’s stupid.”

“Stop bullying ‘C’,” she chided, although she could no longer keep the smile off her face. “It never did anything to you.”

               “It existed,” he grumbled. Spyro looked between the two of them before ultimately making a decision.  “I’m out of here,” he said, turning to leave. Perry huffed. “Traitor,” she accused. “Yep,” Spyro agreed. “Have fun.” Perry glared at him, but there was no venom in her gaze. If it had been her, she would have at least watched the stupidity unfold. “Weak!’ she called after him, but she never got a response.

K imma talk about CiaCM Perry a bit because I really haven't and I want to. I have the talking stick now.

Beware of potential spoilers. I ramble sometimes.

Why is her name Perennial? Honestly I just like the name Perry, but that has unfortunately been forever associated with a certain turquoise platypus. Not a bad thing, but it certainly does make it hard to just straight up name a character Perry. So her full name is Perennial because I think it's pretty. No I would never in a million years name an actual kid that. I know the pain of weird names too much. Anyways my in universe reason is that her mother wanted to name her Perenelle (the name of Nicholas Flamel's wife actually!) but she was so hopped up on pain killers that the nurses couldn't make out what she was saying exactly, so they defaulted to Perennial. At first she was mad, because "that's not her name!" But then figured it was close enough and her kid could still be called Perry so it worked.

Her brothers names are Benjamin, Franklin, and Sean.

So yeah, two older twin brothers, and one younger brother. She is 100% a tomboy.

Now, as far as her characteristics go, it's a mess. The first thing she does when figuring out she's a Portal Master is to try to back out of everything. I mean, she's seventeen when she finds out. Not even old enough to vote. She shouldn't be anywhere near any sort of war. But she struggles with that and eventually tells herself she doesn't have a choice. She has to do it. There's supposedly nobody else who CAN do it, and even if there is, what if they're younger than her? She can't let that happen. Plus, it's not fair to the Skylanders to have to stay somewhere they shouldn't be because she's selfishly trying to stay out of it.

She's constantly having to fight with herself on what she wants and what she knows she SHOULD do. She WANTS to stay out, but she SHOULD help. She WANTS to say "I'm done" but she knows she NEEDS to see it through.

Her sense of humor is genuine, but it's also something of a coping/deflecting mechanism. Sort of a "can't have anything wrong with me if I'm cracking jokes, right" mentality. So yeah, she does tend to keep everything to herself. And she hates crying with a passion. Not a 'emotions are weak' sort of hate, but more of a 'gosh dang it there are bigger things going on and a breakdown is not needed right now' sort of deal. Only constantly. Even when it's fine for a breakdown to happen. She just hates crying.

She will never describe herself as brave. She's more reckless than brave. She doesn't always do the things she does because it's the right thing to do, (although she definitely does do that a couple of times) but more so because she feels that 'hey, if anyone needs to pay the consequences of this, might as well be me.' Especially if she feels it's her fault it happens in the first place. Book 2 is not going to be great for her mental health. So she does have something of a martyr complex going on. It will be addressed.

Now, onto her relationships with other characters. This may be a bit stilted as i am very tired, and my brain is soup.

Eon

Eon is more or less a father/grandfather figure to her. She has great respect for him and does tend to understand his position on things even if she doesn't agree. Their biggest conflicts are going to be in books 2 and 3.

Hugo

Hugo is an older brother figure to her. He's the one that teaches her how to read Skylish and ancient Skylish, and is the only other person that really understands what's going on with her magic.

Cali

Cali is more or less a mother/older sister figure to her in Skylands. She's the one Perry goes to for the more awkward questions.

Flynn

Flynn is like another one of her brothers. He teaches her how to fly (which is just as disastrous as it sounds) and is overall a cool guy. What else do you expect lmao

Tessa

Tessa is her absolute best friend. They are relatively close in age and tell each other just about everything. The only problem is that Tessa has her duties as the village chieftain, so they don't get to hang out as much as they wish they could.

Spyro

Spyro is her other absolute best friend. And the only one who understands her exact brand of humor. I mean, she does find it hilarious when she says something that literally nobody else can comprehend, but having someone who understands the inside jokes is important, lol.

Spitfire

Spitfire is another one of her close friends, but he's the first Supercharger she recruits. He's more or less a voice of reason for her to lean on when she needs it. I mean, Eon is a voice of reason too, but sometimes it's better to get it from someone you DON'T see as a father figure, yeah?
