#Skye's Typhlosion

Fun fact of the day! Skye's Wortortle isn't a Wartortle by choice. Due to experiments via Team Rocket that involve forcibly inducing Pokemon evolution, Wartortle's evolution cells were destroyed in the crossfire.

In our headcanon, Pokemon who are able to evolve possess evolution cells. When they get enough cells, they're able to change form. The most common way to duplicate cells is through battle, but cells can also grow via stones with special powers or trade as well.

Skye's Typhlosion was a Pokemon originally owned by Team Rocket that was forced to evolve. Skye has to help both Wartortle accept the fact that it will never evolve, as well as help Typlosion who evolved before it was ready.

So about six years ago, I created a homebrew system for a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon tabletop game. It didn't quite pan out, so I migrated to a heavily homebrewed version of DnD 5e (also designed by yours truly.) Until about 4 months ago, I was running two different campaigns as well as a handful of smaller adventures. I can't take full credit, my boyfriend has been a massive help with running games and coming up with homebrew. Over the last half decade, I've kept a record of all of the characters that have played in our games. And as a celebration of finishing such a long journey, here's all 72 characters that have been played in PMDnD.

ive concluded some things:

phoenix totally has an incineroar. sova totally has a decidueye okay that's obvious and then other bird pokemon or something or just real naturey tough mon. kj probably has a bunch of crazy tech pokemon or something like metacross and and magneton and charjabug and surely rotom. jett's gonna totally have some flying types or dragon types oh oh like an altaria would be cooln. i think i Gengar would be very cool or yoru to have, maybe also a houndoom or absol . breach has a conkeldurr no i don't take criticism (it's a good pokemon too??). neon has some other electric types, like maybe like luxray and manectric bc they're same colors. A morpeko seems fitting idk. sage has rock or ice types i mean i know those aren't quite her Thing but it seems the closest? sova would also maybe have ice types. brim totally has a lycanrock look okay. reyna totally has a mismagius bc it's one of my faves. one of the oricorios. just learned about some of the hisuian forms and either reyna or yoru would have the hisuian typhlosion (who scared me bc the really small icon was freaky as hell it looked like a limp doll). you know reyna has a liepard and salazzle. reyna and yoru have a lotta pokemon that overlap imo. anyway. raze would have a ragtag band of em maybe some fighting types. skye defs would have a dog and a bird mon and maybe one of the deer Pokemon. perhaps a Bulbasaur bc bulbasaur baby okay??? she'd probably work on a farm or something pokemon specifically related idk. maybe also have some fighting types. viper would just have a bunch of poison types and maybe a serperior idk

ik there's other agents but these are my current ideas and *throws chamber in a pool* not worrying about him he'd have a stingy pokemon or a really beautiful elegant one like. gardevoir or gothitelle

As is my tradition every year, time to post about my Anime Boston experience! Sorry for not live blogging it this year. Things were really busy since @ikarikari, @noodlerama, and @ada254 all came out to come to the con with @kasuria and I!!

Simply put: we had a lot of fun!!

Anime Boston was a blast, as always. This is my eighth year going (I’ve gone every year since 2009, but I’ve only saved my badges as far back as 2010 since my mom threw out my 2009 one), and once again I had a great time and plan to return next year! Hynes security and Anime Boston staff were excellent this year, making for a far more enjoyable convention experience than the mess that was Line Con 2.0 last year. We were able to zip in and out of the convention center every time, which made planning a lot easier. The hallways were a little crowded on Saturday on the first floor, but that was to be expected since it’s right near the Dealer’s Room.

Speaking of the Dealer’s Room, I was able to pick up some sweet merch! My first purchase was the Bokura wa Ima no Naka de Honoka nendoroid I’ve been dreaming of getting for months now! She was a little pricey, but she’s finally mine! I’m hoping to buy Chika’s Aozora Jumping Heart nendoroid to match her in the near future! I also got a mini version of the adorable You SEGA plush. The bigger one was around $50, so I settled for the little one! She’s my favorite in the plush set. I love her expression and she’s second best girl! I also purchased a Typhlosion key chain from an artist who I bought a Wartortle keychain from last year! Now I have keychains of both of Skye’s mains! Maybe next year I’ll get Charizard for Briar, or Infernape for Lizzie. My final Anime Boston purchase was a cute little Charmander plush. His quality is very nice, and he’s soft to the touch! I also included the lovely Chika SSS figure that @ada254 gave to me as a gift in the picture! She’s really beautiful and is going to look amazing next to my Good Smile Honoka!!

My biggest complaint about the dealer’s room is there were a few vendors selling stolen or knock-off merchandise. There were wall scrolls with stollen art, and I even saw a bootleg Pikachu dressed as a Gyarados! He was much lower quality than the real thing and the vendor said he was $30, which is insane. Hopefully AB gets that figured out next year and prevents people selling merch like that from getting in. It’s definitely happened at the con before, but there seemed to be more of it this year. I’ve seen at least one person already complaining about it on the AB forums. Might leave a comment there myself to draw more attention to it.

The AMV contest was just okay to me this year. Possibly the weakest out of all the years I’ve been. There were maybe only 5 or 6 AMVs that really blew me away. The others were good, of course, but I’ve been more impressed in past years. It’s really obvious there was a huge bias towards Yuri on Ice this year. There were five AMVs in the finals for it, and it was featured in a few others as well. I actually did vote for two of the YOI AMVs, but the other three felt VERY lacking, and not Anime Boston AMV contest finalists material. It felt as if they were only picked because they were YOI, when I’m sure there were better AMVs that were submitted (heck, probably even better YOI AMVs). But I’m not one to judge too much. I don’t know how they coordinate the contest, and I’m not enough of a pro at AMVs to know what makes a “great” AMV and what doesn’t. Plus, the AMV coordinator said that there was over an hour’s worth of YOI AMVs submitted. Holy smokes. However, I can say that I was really glad for the AMV that won best in show. It truly deserved it. That doesn’t happen a lot. I’ll post the video later!

The Masquerade was also spectacular this year! Bravo to everyone who entered!! My favorite skit was the “Just Peachy!!!” skit between Princess Peach and Bowser. The cosplays were wonderful and the acting was on point! I had a good laugh! Flash Step Dance Crew was amazing as always, too. Their theme this year was Pokémon, and they even had the entire crowd sing the Pokémon theme with them, which was possibly my favorite part of the masquerade. Roady was awesome, of course. Glad to see him get some bacon jerky and bring out the old shirt again this year haha Very sad to see Mario go, though :( It broke my heart when he sang Stand By Me. I got a little choked up. But I wish him the best in his future endeavors!

Besides the convention itself though, I had a really amazing weekend spent with friends I get to see so rarely! I had a lot of fun, and just getting to be around all of them was the best part for me! I can’t wait for Anime Boston 2018!

Skye/Calla/Reid + #5 “You’re safe now.”

March 24th, 2040. Evening. Mt. Coronet, Sinnoh.

The faint sound of a blast echoed in the distance as Skye ushered her two younger siblings into a small rocky cavern. It wasn’t much, but it would at least protect them and their Pokemon from the eyeline of any roaming Rocket grunts.

Typhlosion sniffed the air, making sure there were no unwanted persons nearby. He turned his head to Skye, nodding with a grunt.

Skye let out a breath of relief, giving him a thankful pat on the head before turning to the twins. “You’re safe now,” she assured, putting a hand on each of their shoulders and furrowing her brows. “Just stay here and hang tight for a bit.”

Reid looked at her ludicrously. “This is so stupid,” he spat. “Why won’t you let us fight with you?”

“We can handle ourselves, Skye!” Calla clutched her chest, frowning. “Let us go, too. We can—”

“No,” Skye snapped, her tone a little harsher than she intended. Recollecting herself, she sighed, frowning. “Think about your Pokemon and the condition they’re in for a sec. You can’t push them beyond their limits,” she reasoned, shifting her gaze to Typhlosion. 

Skye lifted her hand, running her fingertips gently over the scar that marked his face. He closed his eyes, leaning into her touch. A pang of guilt ran through Skye’s chest and her voice went softer, “I’m not... gonna let you make that mistake.”

Neither twin spoke a word. Reid pursed his lips, averting gaze with his fists clenched at his sides. Calla rubbed her arm, glancing down at the exhausted Bulbasaur panting at her feet. 

Skye exhaled, turning her attention back onto her siblings. “Look, once things calm down out there and you see an opening, get outta here. Go find Mom and Dad. They’ll know what to do next.” 

But before either twin got the chance to respond, a loud explosion rang a little too close for comfort. Typhlosion’s head perked up, looking to the source of the sound, a growl rumbling in his throat.

Skye furrowed her brows, exchanging a knowing look with her Pokemon. She focused on her siblings once more. “I’ve gotta go. Are you guys good?”

Calla and Reid looked at each, both hesitating for a moment. Finally, Reid sighed, throwing his arms behind his head. “Yeah. I guess so.” He waved a hand dismissively. “Go save the world or whatever. We’ll be fine.”

A small smile tugged at the corners of Skye’s mouth and she nodded. She turned on her heel to make an exit, but before she could leave, Calla spoke up. “Skye?”

Skye blinked, stopping in her tracks and looking back at her sister curiously. Calla’s typical bright and cheery disposition had been replaced with something more fearful. Her eyes wavered just the slightest as she took a step forward, managing a, “Be careful.”

Though he was trying hard not to show it, Skye could make out a similar look in Reid’s eyes as well. They were worried, and she couldn’t really blame them. Skye inwardly cursed herself for letting them get involved in this at all. 

Typhlosion grunted, pulling at the bottom of his trainer’s shirt, beckoning her forward. Skye knew there was no time to dwell, so she shook her head and did the only thing she could think of to give her siblings the smallest bit of reassurance.

Flashing them her signature grin and a thumbs up she said, “Always am!”

Skylar Ketchum’s Pokemon Team

Just like how I made stat sheets for the kiddos, I decided to make some for the Pokemon, too! They were a lot of fun to make. It also helped me get to know her Pokemon and their personalities a little better, too! I really enjoyed coming up with move sets, especially!

Skye’s main team is full of fast boys and hard hitters, which is probably pretty expected when it comes to someone like her! Skye is a big follower of her father’s motto in terms of strategy--the best defense is a good offense!

Some information about Skye’s Mega Typhlosion, if anyone’s interested! As a note, all of this is subject to change if Typhlosion ever gets an actual mega evolution (though, doubtful at this point). So yeah! This is the fan design that we use for him. Typhlosion goes from approximately 5′7 to about 6′5 upon mega evolving, and changes from a fire type to a fire/dark type. He gets a big special attack boost, which is further enhanced by his ability change from Blaze to Berserk. However, his speed and special defense are lowered in the process.

How does Skye’s Typhlosion hold his Mega Stone

I’ve always imagined it to be around his neck! I like the idea of there being holes in the back of it where Typlosion’s flame spouts are. I may actually attempt designing it at some point. If, for whatever reason, around his neck doesn’t work, then probably strapped onto his arm!

I love your choices for all the Alolan Pokemon! I was wondering you mentioned earlier that Skye rescued Typhlosion from some pretty bad abuse. Does any one else have a Pokemon who was also abused/abandoned/etc?

Yes, Skye’s Typhlosion came from a situation where it was heavily abused/neglected by Team Rocket as a Cyndaquil. It has a lot of trust issues in regards to humans because of that. But Skye will definitely not be the only character to own an abused Pokemon.

I completely forgot to add it to Amber’s profile (so I’m going to go back and do that now), but Amber actually owns a Type:Null that was created by Team Rocket in their research about Arceus and the Unown. We don’t know much of the circumstances surrounding the situation with Amber’s Type:Null just yet, but we do know that she’s going to have trouble communicating with it and reading its heart.

Besides Skye and Amber, I’m sure there will be other characters--but we don’t know who just yet!

How did Lizzie get Feraligatr?

Great question. I'm not sure. It is something I want to figure out though because it's one of her main Pokemon and I like the idea of it having a rivalry with Skye's Typhlosion.

Will Skye’s Shiny Manetroc and Gengar also be able to undergo Mega Evolution or will Typhlosion be the only one of Skye’s Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution??

Nope! Typhlosion's the only one! We feel pretty strongly about each character only getting one mega.
