i would love to hear your thoughts about zoe
i'm here to remind everyone that zoe decided to befriend a hundred-headed dragon w terrible breath, just bc she could. like zoe says she could feed ladon by hand! meanwhile, her sisters are still scared of ladon in the present story, some two thousand years later. but zoe and ladon were close enough that he doesn't attack her immediately when she returns to the garden and purposefully makes herself "a bigger threat." i don't think we talk abt this enough.
this is under a read more bc the first bit is the most important part honestly. i haven't seen a single person draw zoe w her hundred-headed, stinky dragon. that feels like a crime.
but i also want to talk abt how she badly hercules burned her. she has no real reason to help him, at no point in their conversation is there any sort of implied transaction, but she helps him anyway. bc she's kind! and it cost her everything she had. her immortal power, her gift from her mother, her family, the dragon she befriended. and she gets nothing from it! not even the slightest bit of recognition. she had to rebuild everything.
anyway. closing thoughts. zoe deserved to shoot a man.
#honorable mention when zoe woke ladon and her sisters ran away like “have you lost your fucking mind??? that's a dragon!!!”#and zoe just replied “skill issue”#anyway thank u anon for indulging me#zoe nightshade#zoë nightshade#percy jackson#percy jackon and the olympians#pjo books#zoe#min talks pjo#answered#i was trying to write something else but all i could think abt was ladon so u know what. this is the post

Throwing another option of HMC dynamic you might have never thought about: Mari and Princess Valeria's friendship would be an unstoppable force of power unknown to making and to prevent this from happening the universe made them exist in different words.
#NO BUT LIKE THEY WOULD BE SUCH A GOOD CONTRASTING FRIENDS LMAO#Valeria would be “risky and sometimes says things too smart for her age” kind of a child#AND MARI IS LIKE THE SWEETEST CHILD YOU'VE EVER SEEN WHO ALSO CAN MAKE THE MOST HORRIBLE CHAOS WITHOUT BLINKING#Valeria knows like four languages by the age of six and Mari is like great!! I know Welsh!! I speak Welsh with uncle Howell btw he's like r#really really cool#Valeria is genuinely empresses because woah she would never be able to learn something from this language group#they also have to talk about their failure cringe uncles so the balance would be restored#Mari thinks uncle Howell is like way cooler than this super rich businessmen or whatever#Valeria thinks either she has to contradict them or not#they're not really arguing about it though#okay MAYBE a bit#Mari gives names to every and each of her stuffed toys and her fav's name is like Snuffles#Valeria dreams about having A REAL pony and she would call it mister Shinysparkles the Second#when Mari ask her where is The Firt whatever that long name is Valeria doesn't answer#also they weave bracelets and beads together#AND I'm aware there's like about three-two year age gap between that but looking at how Valeria's knowledge and skills progressed in CITA#that's not that big lmao#like they could get along#howl's moving castle#howl's moving castle book#hmc#howell jenkins#howl pendragon#princess valeria#mari parry

What to do when writing projects seem too ambitious? I was thinking about this idea of a fluffy relationship story between two characters, but now i am not sure if i can pull that off.
Write it anyway.
Okay that's maybe too vague an answer. We had a longer discussion about this here:
But essentially, a lot of people (including me) argued that yes--maybe it is possible, but that doesn't mean you should shy away from it. Every piece of writing is practice for where you want to get to. You might not nail the idea that you have on first try, but you'll get closer. And closer. And then one day you'll have written enough that you've gotten to where you wanted to be.
So.. y'know. Write it anyway.

What is your favorite Redwall book?
Mattimeo! It's the first I one read and still my favorite of the bunch. I also liked Redwall, the first of the series, and have vague positive memories of The Bellmaker, but I don't really remember them as well as I'd like.
#anonymous#answered#big childhood influence for sure#they stopped translating and publishing the books in Finnish after The Long Patrol and I still haven't read the subsequent parts though#didn't have the language skills back then let alone access to the English copies

for so long I was like “why do so many people ask me questions with answers easily found in the books” but now I’m wondering. what if they’re actually not easily found. I just think they are. because i already know so much. and so my perception is completely and entirely skewed.
that or people not having the books on hand but I’m just. like. finally processing that i cannot speak to what a normal amount of kotlc knowledge is at all because I’m such an extreme. I know so much. holy shit guys I don’t think I’m normal
#kotlc#my ability to rapidly find and quote very specific scenes is not. in fact. a typical skill set I don’t think#oh also don’t get me wrong I don’t mind answering the questions!#Im just always like…wouldn’t it be easy to check the books?#but perhaps it’s not and it would just be easier for me because I know what to look for and where like everything is#though admittedly I’m not as familiar with newer books#because they’re newer#but anyway#I have realized I love being consulted like a library I love telling you information and answering questions#does this post many ANY sense

I genuinely don't get what you people see in The Secret History cause the hype around it sure as fuck was wrong.
#the author is a skilled writer but good god i hate every single person in this book#like NONE of them are likeable or interesting people#i genuinely could care less what happens to anyone in TSH#I'm halfway through this shit novel and it just feels like a waste of time but I'm stubborn and seldom ever leave a book unfinished#the secret history#i could care less about spoiled out of touch college students#side note: i got two asks in my drafts and I'll answer them soon

This seems kind of unlikely, but since a few of you have bookbinding experience I thought I'd toss it out there:
I'd like my next practice bind to be a favorite novel, but most of the novels whose full text is easily available are also easy to find as beautiful clothbounds, and thus I already own them. If I bound a favorite classic, my efforts would be redundant. This leaves me with (a) binding a B-tier favorite or (b) attempting to bind something outside the public domain. I'm trying to figure out how feasible (b) would be for me now.
Does anyone know of a method that could be used to harvest text from ebooks into Word or similar? Or can anyone even recommend some less legitimate resources for getting ahold of these texts with the formatting intact?
#as far as 🏴☠️ goes I would probably stick with books that I already own as ebooks or paperbacks. that's probably where I'd put the line#i did some googling and was able to find a sketchy pdf of one of my top candidates but when I copied it into word the formatting was a mess#and reformatting it all from scratch is. not appealing#i do know there are ways to rebind existing paperbacks into clothbounds#but i think that's above my current skill level#and not really what I'm trying to practice now besides#although i would love to learn to do that eventually#anyway. just thought I'd toss the question out in case one of you guys knows the answer#thanks!#pontifications and creations#adventures in bookbinding

AU WHERE GUINEVERE AND MORGAN'S SON'S WERE SWAPPED AS BABES SO LLEU WHO WAS RAISED AS THE LEGITIMATE HEIR IS ACTUALLY THE INCESTUAL BASTARD AND MEDRAUT WHO IS VIEWED AS THE BETTER STATESMAN AND FIGHTER IS THE LEGITIMATE HEIR.
Logically, if that happened, it would probably be Morgan who swapped them, but I think it would be interesting if she wasn't the one who did it and had no clue 🥰🥰🥰
Nonny, you are a genius! 🤯 Remember when me and Yono were confused why Lleu was the sickly child even though Medraut was the child born from incest? Now we have an explanation. Lleu has been the incest baby all along! Morgause shaped Medraut's beliefs and made him loyal to her. It doesn't matter if he's of her blood or not because even if he is not her child biologically, he is her child idologically. A weapon of her own making. Artos' rejection drove him into Morgause's arms. If her plan came to fruition he would have slain her enemies for her and made her queen. It's brilliant, really. Medraut wouldn't even need to become a kinslayer, usurp and start a war. The throne would be rightfully his. All it would take is the revelation of Lleu's bastardy that would disqualify him as a successor.
The plan was never to make a child that could be her pawn as a king. The plan was to make a sacrifice. Morgause bore Lleu to give Artos a distraction while she was poisoning the mind of his real child. And in his shame Artos was playing right into her hands when he send away Medraut and neglected him. Medraut's hunger for parental love made him vulnerable to her manipulations and welcoming of her inappropiate advances.
Artos had no idea he was pampering his sister's bastard while he was treating his legitimate son like a stain on his family. If Medraut were to kill Lleu it wouldn't be regicide, it would be the execution of a pretender to the throne. He'd be treated like a hero instead of the villain he was. ooooh, this is so evil I like it. ^^
#I don't think it would make Artos stop loving Lleu but his attitude towards Medraut would change slightly#too late the damage has already been done and Medraut has grown bitter and hateful#he'd be tempted to abuse his power as crown prince#to stop him and try to install Lleu on the throne would now be treason#I really wonder where this would go#answered asks#anon#Medraut's allegiance is questionable but Artos cannot disinherit his only legitimate son#where does that leave him?#and what about Lleu? his whole world would shatter. he isn't as smart or wise or skilled as Medraut#in the first half of the book the only thing he could count on was his birthright#Medraut thought if he had been born untainted then his father would love him how would he deal with it now#that he knows even being his father's heir and Guinevere's son will never make his father look at him#with the same tenderness in his eyes as when he looks at his youngest most precious child?

“shen jiu flung BOILING WATER over the FACE of a CHILD—“
so…luo binghe tried to serve him boiling hot tea, or…?
#moi#salt is salt#svsss talk#answer: no he did not.#pouring the tea over lbh’s head was rude enough#he’s already a shitty person#and that’s IT. he’s a shitty person and NOTHING MORE. he’s not horrible/evil/rancid/irredeemable/whatever#he’s just a guy with shit social skills and even shittier coping mechanisms#you don’t need to make up new things to get mad at him over#god i swear some of you stopped reading after the TITLE#you’re not supposed to take the ‘scum villain’ in the title at face value#that’s like. what the whole goddamn book is about.#i mean come on this claim is just stupid#do you know how long it takes for boiling water to inflict third degree burns?#like a second. a single second.#if that tea had been boiling hot one of them would have ended up seriously hurt#and yet 🤔 there was nothing of the sort

have you read Being Nixon: the man divided?
yeah i actually just finished listening to the audiobook of it like a week ago and i was thinking of writing like a whole ass post about it on here because i had a lot of thoughts. i enjoyed it because it focuses a lot on what nixon was like as a person and how his mental/emotional state affected his actions, which i always find interesting, and i learned lots of new stuff from it even though i've read a ton of books about nixon. and many of the observations the author makes about nixon i totally agree with. BUT i was also constantly frustrated by the author's super-sympathetic view of nixon and constant excuses for his actions. guys he was just a poor little meow meow and he was soooo sad and he wanted to do the right thing but external forces and the dark side of his personality were against him 🥺🥺🥺 the most egregious example is this passage:
Don't worry, Cambodian villagers who are about to be incinerated by a B-52! This is just a little wishful thinking and too much optimism!!
#sorry that was an insanely long answer#and tbh i would still recommend the book to any real nixonheads there's some good stuff in there#a lot of evidence for nixon autism truthers#just use your critical thinking skills#like yes we can all look at nixon and be like damn that guys fucked up. hes got problems and issues#and feel bad for him in a way but he was still a bad person who did evil things!#whatever. ted talk thank you for coming to etc.

With a sudden, thunderous roar, the dragon threw its head back, unleashing a sound that shook the very air. The roar was deafening, echoing far and wide like the breaking of a storm, filled with fury and dominance. The red glow of its eyes flared with the force of it, casting an eerie light that danced across its sleek black scales.
As the roar faded into the night, the dragon's massive tail whipped through the air with a sharp crack. The movement was swift and powerful, slicing through the space like a scythe. The tail swished around with fluid precision, coiling and lashing as if testing the air, creating gusts that stirred the stars all around. Each movement was a reminder of its untamed strength, a force as dangerous as it was magnificent.

if you don't mind me asking, and if i just missed something again somewhere thatd answer my question, i am so sorry. but. it seems like even tho with the assumption that korvin is basically from our world, he doesnt know all that much about general comic book lore. so like. how aware is korvin that he was isekai'ed into the comic book world?
don't mind, will clarify.
let's think of it like this. at what point does it matter how much you know about the world you've isekai'd in? especially for a comic book world, in which canon and continuity are already loosely defined? what about it being so close to the real world for most of the time, and then jarringly different during the highest stakes?
are you willing to bet your life on assumptions?
korvin's not.
he knows of batman from the cultural zeitgeist but has my general...uh, disinterest and skepticism in the messiness and narratives of comics and superheroes stories.
and on his general mindset (my mindset): it's folly to walk into something assuming you have the ground truth. a lot of the work i do day-to-day is interdisciplinary aka working between specialties to connect them into a larger analysis. and by god i work with some of the most brilliant people... in their field that can't for the life of them understand and articulate their working assumptions that only WORK FOR THEM. knowledge bias is real and it's a barrier for this type of collaboration. so, i'm extra-wary about going into things treating it like it has to be some way. i rather rely on a more abstracted and fundamental set of first principles and adapt as necessary.
and so you get korvin.
#inquiry#maryallenc tries to write#on tpac#it's also the reconciliation of comic book logic and real world logic#if there was obvious blatant differences in day-to-day living then sure. but there's really not#short answer is: he doesn't generally enjoy the genre + doesn't know enough + knows he's better off without clinging to half-baked lore#trusting the isekai'd metaknowledge is like a trade of how well you know it vs how well you can observe/prove it#my little rib here is at the transmigrators that think they're set bc they're obsessed with whatever they're now in#like buddy you may have encyclopedic knowledge of the 'verse but you lack life experience + unbiased observation skills + introspection#those are isekais that can only be done with a certain mindset that isn't me#edit+caveat: doesn't mean korvin's better off. boy could do w some therapy and anti-anxiety meds
