I knew Gunman King Joe design remind me of something...

I know it's not the first time we see a design looking like this, but I love those shapes and floating clothes so much ! Also, watch this movie it's awesome ! It's called "Sirocco and the kingdom of winds" And here is the english trailer :

this was my participation to the 25HBD 2024! i realized I'd completely forgotten to post it before, so here it is now!

that year's theme was " the uncanny ", and I wanted to be self-indulgent, so I figured I could adapt the story of these Genshin OCs I have with friends for this comic. Basically, Fermin's defected from the Fatui for months now, rebuilding his life in a new place with this other person, Sirocco. However, his childhood friend Artyom is left behind because of circumstances, and he doesn't take well to the isolation it ends up driving him to. Artyom also was secretly haboring feelings for Fermin, but hadn't confessed up until then.

Eventually, Arlecchino has to accept Fermin's defection isn't just a fake rumor, and calls on Artyom to track him down. Artyom's mind, deliriously trying to protect himself, imagines that he's going to track down an imposter wearing Fermin's face, because surely Fermin never left, right? He's still with him, right?

Needless to say, it doesn't work out great.

The uncanny angle was me going for the idea that someone you thought was by your side this whole time was actually nothing but an apparition... Something you thought was human, but in the end was not. You can probably make the argument I diverged from the theme a fair bit in the end :')

The constraint for this 25HBD was " A character must recount (or remember) a dream ", which I've pretty much glossed over, by giving Artyom a single line going " in a dream, I saw you gone ". Pretty throwaway line-ish but woops.

There are many tiny little moments that hint at Artyom imagining Fermin's presence besides him:

When characters speak within the narration they are given speech bubbles ( here, Arlecchino and Artyom ). Fermin , however does not.

Fermin's face is never visible until Artyom actually spots him in Sumeru, and is often hidden by panel elements or drawn in a lighter shade than Artyom.

When Artyom holds Fermin close after his nightmare, his shadow is on the ground, but not Fermin's.

Fermin and Sirocco are participating in the Sabzeruz Festival of Sumeru, and they're loosely sharing both a flower and a butterfly motif:

( The back of Sirocco's attire looks like butterfly wing tails, Fermin's Knight of Flower attire has the butterfly, they both wear flowers either on their head or around their neck... )

This posing also feels reminiscent of two people at a wedding. :)

I wish international animated films got advertised and shared in cinema longer than like two days (in the US).

Managed to see Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds today. It was really cute and would be nice for kids to see. There was only a few of us in the theater and everyone was adults who enjoy animation. A shame, really.
