The A. & G. Price Ltd Foundry in Thames. January, 2021. This is gonna be a long one, so consider yourself warned.
Directly behind the image is where the East Coast Main Trunk Line (ECMT) connected to the Foundry and allowed for A. & G. Price built locomotives to be attached to the end of an outgoing NZR train.
Many non-Price Locomotives have graced the (long removed) timetable, including the 'Taupō Mallet' (ALCo 53970/1912).
But who were A. & G. Price? Originally founded in Onehunga, Auckland, as a marine firm by Alfred and George Price, the brothers would take advantage of the Coromandel gold rush and begin selling industrial pumps to mining companies in the 1870s.
They would also close down the Onehunga premises and set up shop in Beach Rd, Thames. Price got their start in the railway industry with a small 0-4-0ST locomotive for Messrs. Smith of Kennedy's Bay. This loco is generally considered to be a resounding failure. The first successful locomotives would be the Ministry of Works (known colloquially as the Public Works Dept, PWD) 501-502 series. These were identical to the NZR Wf Class.
Price is well known for their Climax and Heisler clones, which employed features from both locomotives. Notable engines include the Cb Type (Cb 117 used on construction of Nihotupu Dam), V Type ('true' Heisler clone), E Type (Class B Climax clone, used Heisler style pony trucks) and the Cba (an improved Cb). They would build 16-wheeler bush lokeys*.
Price would also build dozens of locomotives for New Zealand Railways and would later begin producing diesel locomotives for bush and industrial railways. By the 1990s, Price was king! They had spent the 20th Century building locomotives and road vehicles for lucrative government contracts, and there was no end in sight. They had even regauged the Silver Star carriages to metre gauge for export to Singapore.
Except there was. By 2017, the company lost most of its work, as neither NZRC (New Zealand Railways Corporation), TranzRail, TollRail, or KiwiRail have ever gone back to Price. The company was subsequently placed into administration. The company was saved by an Auckand based businessman and was reformed as AG Price Ltd, ending the 149-year legacy of the greatest engineering firm in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Many A. & G. Price locomotives can still be found on heritage railways, and I know of one Price-CAT Inc. motor grader in a museum. The Foundry is a heritage listed building which means it can never be torn down.

Harnessing Global SEO Power: Tailoring Strategies to Flourish in International Markets
The world is more connected than ever. Businesses, irrespective of their size, have the potential to reach a global audience. But as opportunities expand, so does the complexity of tapping into new markets. Each country, with its distinct cultural and digital footprint, demands a unique SEO approach. At S4G2 Marketing Agency, we delve deep into these intricacies, crafting tailor-made strategies for each nation. Let's embark on a journey across the world, exploring our specialized SEO services for various countries.
Australia and New Zealand: SEO Down Under
Whether it's Sydney's bustling marketplaces or Auckland's thriving hubs, businesses in the Australasian region need a unique approach. Localized content that resonates with the ANZAC spirit combined with mobile-optimized strategies makes for a winning formula here.
European Majors: France, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, and Spain
Europe is a melting pot of cultures, languages, and digital behaviors. Each country, be it the fashion-centric Parisians or the tech-savvy Berliners, demands a distinct strategy. Our approach leans into cultural nuances while respecting GDPR and other regional regulations.
Emerging Powerhouses: India, Brazil, Nigeria, Indonesia
Rapidly growing economies with a vast digital footprint, these countries present immense opportunities. Local languages, mobile-first approaches, and understanding the pulse of the youth are key here.
Asian Tigers: Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, and Malaysia
With a strong emphasis on technology and innovation, businesses here need to be ahead of the curve. Incorporating the latest in tech trends, like AI and AR, into SEO strategies can be particularly rewarding.
North American Giants: United States and Canada
Arguably the most competitive markets, the US and Canada require a blend of localized and broad-reaching strategies. Keeping up with the ever-evolving algorithms of major search engines is paramount.
Nordic Nations: Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark
Known for their tech-savviness, the Nordic countries appreciate well-structured, user-friendly websites. Transparent, ethical SEO practices resonate well with the audience here.
Eastern European Blend: Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria
A mix of languages and cultures, Eastern Europe demands regional and local SEO. Focusing on local directories and integrating with regional social networks can yield great results.
Tumblr media
Middle Eastern Gems: UAE, Israel, Iraq
Businesses looking to penetrate these markets need to understand the delicate balance of modernity and tradition. Multilingual SEO, especially with Arabic content, is key.
African Potential: South Africa, Zimbabwe
While still in the nascent stages of the digital revolution, Africa presents vast opportunities. Mobile-focused strategies, combined with local content, are the way forward.
Latin American Charm: Mexico, Belize, Brazil
Spanish, Portuguese, and a host of indigenous languages make this region unique. Engaging with local influencers and creating culturally resonant content is vital.
Rest of the World: From Austria to Vietnam
Every nation, be it the snow-capped peaks of Switzerland or the bustling streets of Tokyo, has its own digital signature. At S4G2 Marketing Agency, we understand and respect these distinctions. By crafting bespoke strategies, we ensure businesses don't just reach their target audience; they resonate with them.
Conclusion:
In today's digital age, the world is your marketplace. But global reach demands global understanding. Kanchenjunga Circuit - Kande Bhanjyang to Kathmandu
After hiking for three weeks around Kanchenjunga there was still the small matter of getting home. It took five and a half days in total, three days covered here from the village of Kande Bhanjyang back to Kathmandu, then a couple of days flying to Wellington via Singapore and Auckland. The hiking had been exhausting, but the travel to and from Kanchenjunga was even more tiring. The final two…

How Qld's Team Rainbow helps choose the Gay Games host city
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/how-qlds-team-rainbow-helps-choose-the-gay-games-host-city/
How Qld's Team Rainbow helps choose the Gay Games host city
Tumblr media
Team Rainbow brings the Queensland LGBTQIA+ sporting community together at a local and international level.
Team Rainbow is an organisation that plays a vital role for LGBTQIA+ people across Queensland.
Founded in 2017, the group promotes sport, fitness, and healthy lifestyles among the state’s diverse communities.
It also hosted Australia’s first Pride House at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. This left the legacy of the rainbow stairs at the appropriately named Rainbow Beach.
However, its impact is felt most at a local level.
  View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Team Rainbow Qld (@teamrainbowqld)
Regional Queensland
Team Rainbow was the first community organisation to serve as a unifying force for smaller towns and cities across Queensland.
Their newly appointed President, Toni Bowley, says it assists in taking on responsibilities many don’t have the time to handle.
“Smaller places may lack the resources to establish their own incorporated groups,” she says.
“This includes insurance, website management, board oversight, audited accounts, and approval to fundraise across Queensland.”
With Team Rainbow’s support, these members (which includes individuals, businesses, or community groups) can concentrate on delivering events for the LGBTQIA+ community.
In the last twelve months, the group has been involved with the AFL Pride Game in Mackay, the Tour de Scarborough cycling event, the Tiny Town Tin Can Bay tennis tournament, the Rainbow Beach trail run, and numerous other community events in Townsville, Cairns, and more.
Global connections
Team Rainbow takes Queensland’s LGBTQIA+ participation to an international level.
It is the state’s only member of InterPride (who hosts WorldPride) and the Federation of Gay Games.
Team Rainbow represents its member organisations at regional and international, inclusive, sporting events, such as the long-running Gay Games.
Queensland, under the Team Rainbow banner, had more participants in the Paris Gay Games than Japan and Singapore combined.

A post shared by Team Rainbow Qld (@teamrainbowqld)
Newly appointed President Toni Bowley says that connecting their members to global events is an important role they play.
“Following up from our recent AGM, Team Rainbow is currently considering a few options to better benefit our Community,” she said.
“Organisations are expensive to maintain and require significant resources, especially at a time when social media ‘pages’ are being set up by some conspicuous/inconspicuous ‘admins’.”
“Team Rainbow has avoided this reputation by maintaining its membership with our community’s largest and most engaging international organisations: Federation of Gay Games and InterPride.”
Choosing a Gay Games host city
There will be Team Rainbow representatives at the Federation of Gay Games Annual General Assembly, in Washington DC, from 25-28 October 2024.
Here, two votes will count towards the prioritised ordering of the seven shortlisted cities vying to host Gay Games XIII 2030, including Perth and Melbourne.
One of Team Rainbow’s delegates, Daz Gould, says that choosing a venue isn’t just about location.
“Some voters simply choose a city that is close to their home,” he said.
“However, most voters actually choose a city that simply presents a fantastic and convincing Games with questions thought through and answered clearly with the audience.”
“It helps if the bid city has demonstrated a committed interest by previously applying or has recently hosted a similar event, like the recent Rainbow Games in Auckland, that was well-received, especially by participants from the Pacific region, and the Games have never been held in the bid country.”
Team Rainbow’s second delegate, Phil Horne, has high expectations for the Australian cities.
“It is hoped that the presenters from Melbourne and Perth impress the voting delegates from around the world,” he said.
Future
Although eyes are on the 2030 announcement, the Gay Games 2026 is not far away.
The Games will take place from June 27 to July 5 of that year.
Shaun Bickley, the group’s Gay Games Scholarship representative, encourages the community to get involved.
“Team Rainbow welcomes participants to unite as a team or in an individual sport, to represent Team Rainbow Queensland at Gay Games XII in Valencia, where we aim to offer a scholarship to a participant,” he said.
Driven by a team of dedicated volunteers and bolstered by its international affiliations, Team Rainbow Queensland remains a vital advocate for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in the state.

I attended the Armageddon Expo in Auckland today and seeing Christopher Eccleston was such a delight. The event was delayed but only for us to find out that his flight was delayed and he landed 2 hours BEFORE the event and poor man he was exhausted.
Yet he surprised everyone by coming out to see everyone at the start of the show instead of his scheduled timing on the panel. He was so funny and charming, vulnerable and candid at the same time. And then halfway through his panel, his phone went off, "next 100 metres, turn right".
It's my first time ever attending a convention and I don't think I can live this down for a bit. Oh gosh. I don't think I can go on without constantly talking about this.

Tumblr media
Whether you are migrating to NZ on a Work visa  or travelling to NZ on a visitor visa, everyone wants to accompany their pet; you must know the rules when you bring your pet to NZ. In this guide, we will cover in detail Can you carry your pet or not? Prohibited Animals & Pets  Approved Countries for Pet Entry Prohibited Dog Breeds and Eligibility Eligibility Criteria for Pet Required Vaccinations, Tests, and Treatments Fees and Charges Bringing Pets from Australia to New Zealand Airport for Pet Arrival in New Zealand Steps to Import Your Pet into New Zealand When bringing pets to New Zealand, there are strict rules and requirements set by both Customs and the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI). Both Customs and Biosecurity must clear your pet upon arrival. Here's what you need to know: Strict Import Rules New Zealand has stringent regulations for bringing live animals into the country. You must follow these rules closely. For detailed biosecurity requirements, refer to the MPI website. Airports for Pet Arrival International airlines only transport animals to two airports in New Zealand: Auckland and Christchurch. Commercial Import If you’re bringing an animal for commercial purposes (e.g., breeding, showing, or racing), you must contact a customs broker to handle the process. Prohibited Animals and Pets Certain animals are not allowed into New Zealand, including: Live birds Ferrets Guinea pigs (except from Australia) Mice and rats (except for laboratory animals) Snakes and other reptiles (except for zoos) If you're unsure whether your pet can be imported, check the MPI guidance for pets travelling to New Zealand. Approved Countries for Pet Entry New Zealand only allows pets from countries classified as rabies-free or with controlled rabies conditions. These countries are categorised into three groups:
Tumblr media
Category 1: Pets from these countries do not require an import permit. However, they must undergo a post-arrival inspection but will not be quarantined if all conditions are met. Countries include Australia and Norfolk Island. Category 2: Pets from these countries need an import permit and must be quarantined for a minimum of 10 days upon arrival. Countries include Japan, Singapore, Fiji, and Bahrain. Category 3: Pets from these countries also require an import permit and quarantine for at least 10 days. This category includes the USA, UK, Canada, and many European nations. Pets from countries not on these lists must first reside in an approved country for at least six months and meet that country's import requirements before being eligible for New Zealand. Tumblr media
Vaccinations Depending on their country of origin, pets must be up-to-date on vaccinations, particularly against rabies and other diseases common to cats and dogs. Category 1 countries: Pets do not need a rabies vaccination. Category 2 countries: Dogs must be vaccinated against canine distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, kennel cough, and canine influenza. Cats must be vaccinated against feline calicivirus, panleukopenia, and rhinotracheitis. Category 3 countries: Pets must receive a rabies vaccination along with routine quarantine vaccinations. Dogs must be vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, and kennel cough. Cats must be vaccinated against rabies, calicivirus, panleukopenia, and rhinotracheitis. Health Tests for Dogs Dogs from Category 2 and 3 countries must be tested for several diseases before travel: Canine heartworm: Requires an ELISA test at least 30 days before departure. Babesia canis and Babesia gibsoni: New Zealand mandates tests for Babesia via ELISA, IFAT, or PCR. Dogs with a positive test for Babesia gibsoni are not eligible to enter. Leptospirosis: Dogs must either test negative for Leptospirosis or undergo a doxycycline treatment for 14 days before travel. Brucella canis: Dogs must produce a negative test for Brucellosis. Dogs diagnosed with Brucella canis are not eligible for import, regardless of treatment. Internal and External Parasite Treatments Pets must be treated for internal and external parasites twice before travel. Internal treatments must be administered 30 days and again four days before travel, while external treatments for fleas and ticks should be given 30 days and two days before travel. Rabies Vaccination and Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT) For pets from Category 3 countries, a rabies vaccination is mandatory. Pets must also pass an RNATT to ensure the vaccine's effectiveness. The RNATT must be performed at least three months before travel in an approved laboratory, and the results must show an antibody level of 0.5 IU/ml or higher. If the test shows lower levels, your pet will need to be revaccinated and retested. Model Veterinary Certificates A and B Once your pet has completed all tests and treatments, your vet will prepare the required model veterinary certificates. These must be signed by an official government vet and submitted with your pet's travel documents. Fees and Charges Import Permit Fees Permit for pets from rabies-free countries: NZD 268.24 (including GST). Additional processing fees: NZD 117.61 per hour if the application exceeds 1.5 hours. Border Clearance Fees All pets undergo border inspection upon arrival: No veterinary inspection required: NZD 57.05 Veterinary inspection required: NZD 214.25 For recent Fees, check - https://www.mpi.govt.nz/bring-send-to-nz/pets-travelling-to-nz/fees-and-charges-when-bringing-pets-to-nz/ Quarantine Fees Pets from Category 2 and 3 countries must spend at least 10 days in an MPI-approved quarantine facility. Quarantine fees vary based on the facility and length of stay. Bringing Pets from Australia to New Zealand Pets from Australia (Category 1) do not need an import permit or quarantine, provided they meet all the necessary conditions. The process for importing pets from Australia includes microchipping, vaccinations, and parasite treatments, but it is more straightforward than importing pets from other countries.

Airport for Pet arrival in New Zealand Pets can only enter New Zealand through Auckland or Christchurch airports. MPI officials will inspect pets upon arrival. If all import conditions are met, pets from Category 1 countries will be released to their owners. Pets from Category 2 and 3 countries will be sent to a quarantine facility for at least 10 days. Steps to Import Your Pet into New Zealand Step 1: Understand MPI Biosecurity Requirements Refer to the MPI website for detailed instructions on biosecurity requirements, including quarantine and veterinary checks. Step 2: Arrange Transport Work with a transport company to arrange your pet’s travel. The company will provide an Air Waybill, which is a required import document. Step 3: Complete the Exempting Statutory Declaration If you’re bringing a dog into New Zealand that hasn’t been previously registered, complete the Exempting Statutory Declaration. Step 4: Submit Documents Before your pet’s arrival, email the following documents to [email protected] or contact a Customs broker: NZCS 231 Form (Bringing a Pet into New Zealand) Copy of your photo ID Proof of ownership (if available) Air Waybill Veterinary certificates (required by MPI) Exempting Statutory Declaration (if needed) Step 5: Customs Invoice If you purchased the animal from overseas and live in New Zealand, Customs will issue an invoice that includes: 15% GST Import Entry Transaction Fee (IETF) Biosecurity System Entry Levy (BSEL) If you move to New Zealand after 21 months or more, you may be exempt from the GST payment. Step 6: Pay the Invoice Complete the payment for your pet’s import costs. Step 7: Collect Your Pet You'll receive a payment confirmation once Customs and MPI requirements are fulfilled. The transport company will receive a delivery order, and you can collect your pet, pending any quarantine requirements. Important Considerations Professional Assistance: It's advisable to use a professional pet exporter to help manage the complex process, especially for pets from Category 2 and 3 countries. Documentation: Ensure all documents, including veterinary certificates, quarantine bookings, and import permits, are accurate and complete. Timing: Plan well in advance, as the entire process can take several months from start to finish. Reference https://www.mpi.govt.nz/ https://www.gov.nz/

Lisa Reihana
Tumblr media
3 September 2024
I watched an interesting video from this year about Lisa Reihana’s practice. She’d created a new work in Singapore ‘Glisten’. But also talked about her Venice Bienniale’ work ‘In pursuit of Venus [infected] and a recent commission for Auckland University.
I was interested in nuanced changes she’d make such as in Venus showing a haka from behind. A conscious choice to indicate sitting behind them as if they’re representing you, rather than front-on where they’re entertaining you.
I was also interested in how she talked of Glisten as like a handshake in the sense of a meeting of cultures - as it brings together Māori and Singapore cultures.

NIKI RELEASES NEW ALBUM 'BUZZ' & SHARES TITLE TRACK MV
Rosa Gulliver of TINYGMUSIC | 9th August 2024
Tumblr media
Jakarta-born, LA-based singer-songwriter and producer NIKI firmly plants herself as one of the most dynamic artists of today with the release of her new album Buzz via 88rising, out now. Accompanying the release is the music video for title track “Buzz,” directed by Isaac Ravishankara. The video, a cheeky line-by-line depiction of the lyrics, encapsulates the rush of raw emotion and bittersweet nerves of a budding romance – glimpses of buzzing bees, a crackling guitar amp, and longing looks between two people, all signaling towards the start of something new. NIKI was initially inspired to name the record after the budding growth she observed in her garden every spring. Across thirteen tracks on the album, the singer encapsulates the feeling of being on the precipice of something undiscovered.

The album’s release joins previous singles; the love struck summer track, “Tsunami,” astrologically-inspired song “Blue Moon,” and flirty lead single “Too Much of a Good Thing.” NIKI plans to celebrate Buzz with a comprehensive world tour, produced by Live Nation, kicking off this fall. What eventually became Buzz, the third studio album by singer-songwriter and globally-renowned star NIKI, started with an urgent quake from the innermost core of her being. What surfaced in its wake was a collection of warm, stirring folk-rock songs, which crackle and flare like a bonfire between close confidantes. “I went through an identity crisis,” says the 25-year-old of Buzz. “It took a lot of trial and error, and I just stumbled upon pieces of myself along the way. I named it Buzz because it feels like I'm on the precipice of something about to happen.”

For NIKI, things have been happening progressively since she was a high schooler in Jakarta, Indonesia. As a student at an international academy, she cut her teeth scribbling lovesick poems in English class and performed acoustic guitar covers of American pop songs on YouTube. With a six-string in hand, and her family and classmates cheering her on from the audience, Nicole Zefanya then staked her claim to global stardom as NIKI.

And claim it she has - with over three billion streams worldwide, sold out shows on multiple continents, massive sets at festivals across the globe, front row seats at Paris Fashion Week, four songs on a Marvel film’s soundtrack, and some of the most phenomenal, confessional songs being released in 2024, NIKI has already established a veteran’s resume before the age of 25.

On Buzz, her songwriting remains as intimate as ever. In her initial sketches of songs for Buzz, NIKI took cues from other lane-paving women with confessional, honest lyricism soundtracked by guitars.  “Joni Mitchell is my songwriting north star,” she says — and uncompromising feminist luminaries like Stevie Nicks, Carly Simon and Liz Phair. To match the wandering spirit of Buzz, NIKI cultivated her own elastic approach to guitar.

To further harness this creative and personal sea change, NIKI began enlisting producers who had worked with her favourite contemporary singer-songwriters. She tapped Tyler Chester, who’d captured tracks with Madison Cunningham and Sara Bareilles; she also recruited Ethan Gruska, who counts Fiona Apple and Phoebe Bridgers as collaborators.
Buzz reverberates with the hard-earned wisdom of a young woman who charges dauntlessly towards her dreams — but can still spare a laugh if she stumbles.
About NIKI
NIKI born Nicole Zefanya on January 24 1999, is an Indonesian singer-songwriter. She is currently based in the United States and signed with the record label 88rising. She released her first full-length studio album, Moonchild, in 2020. It was followed by Nicole (2022) and recently Buzz (2024). Her debut headlining concert tour, Nicole World Tour (2022–2023), visited over 40 cities across North America, Asia, Australia, and Europe.
NIKI has garnered global recognition for her songwriting and musicianship and is among the most popular female artists from Indonesia. In 2020, NIKI was listed among Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia.

(中英版,Chinese & English versions)
Extract from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Public Talk in New Zealand, Auckland, 3rd December 2017
MASTER JUN HONG LU JP: BUDDHA EXPLAINS HOW TO SOLVE THE TIREDNESS IN LIFE
At that time, someone asked Buddha: Life is so tiring, how could this be solved? Buddha answered: The heaviness of life half stems from survival, and the other half stems from desire and comparison. If you do not allow too much desire to reside in your heart, then there would not be suffering.
When we first came to Australia, just as many of you when you first came to New Zealand, you might have thought, “As long as I have a house to live in, it would be enough.” But gradually, after a while, you saw things and thought, ‘Wow, look at that humongous house; I want one’. Although you are already in old age, you still want to work and earn more money. This would only do more harm to your body.
If a person is not greedy and can say, ‘It’s enough. I’m satisfied. I’m OK’, that is being content with what you have.
Do not let too much desire reside in your heart. A person only has one heart with two atriums. In one atrium lives happiness, and in the other lives sadness. Do not be overjoyed; if you are overly happy, and laugh too loudly, it will wake up sadness on the other side.

MANCHESTER APHRODITE
MANCHESTER APHRODITE
I am
always dreaming of Manchester
always dreaming of Aphrodite
she comes from
Reykjavik, she comes from
Kingston, she comes from
Tehran, she comes
the South, further
South than
Richmond, New Orleans,
Auckland, Canberra or
Johannesvurg
further East than
Manilla, Lahore, Madras,
Shanghai, Singapore or Osaka
further left than
Rosa Luxemburg or
Dolores La Passionaria
but I jest;
of course I jest,
she only ever appears as you
perhaps
she is you
and I am doomed to haunt
the dream streets, twists
and turns and
secret alleyways of
this
city looking for you
only for
the beauty, utter beauty
of single
devastating glimpse.
