Pole Dancing
Fandom/Pairing: X-Men: First Class - Cherik
Length: ~ 5 000 words
Rating/Warnings: T / None
Additional Tags: No Powers, Modern AU, Flirting, Pining, Meet-Cute
Summary: If anyone had told Charles a week ago that he would find himself taking pole dancing lessons, he would have called them mad.
It's not his choice, of course — it's Raven's, selected as punishment for a lost bet — but that doesn't change just how mortifying the whole ordeal is. Charles is under no illusions as to his own physical prowess — or lack thereof — and knows that there is no way for him to emerge from that class with his dignity intact. But no amount of protests or wheedling can make Raven change her mind.
What's worse, she insists on telling the very handsome stranger that Charles bumps into in the gym lobby about it, too. As if Charles isn't mortified enough.
But, to Charles's surprise, the man seems more amused than judgemental. Maybe even a little intrigued.
Charles can definitely work with that. GO HERE TO READ

Part Three of the fic rec coming at you! Sorry for it coming so late in the day - I was finishing up reading a fic that I wanted to add to this part! I do only add fics that I’ve read, and enjoyed, to this rec so (once again) there will be few, if any, ABO and Shrinkyclink fics! As always; I will provide the Google Doc link where I update the rec regularly, but if you’d prefer it formatted here on tumblr, it is under the cut! If you want to recommend fics, go for it!

Don’t Leave Me Asunder
Word Count: 31.1k Rating: Teen and Up Notable Tags: Shrunkyclunks, Veteran!Bucky, Amputee!Bucky Warnings: None Synopsis: Like many other war veterans, Bucky Barnes is alone. He doesn't talk to his family, he has no friends and his only human interactions are with his cleaning crew from Avengers Tower. Plagued by nightmares and pain, he lives each day in isolation. Until the Avengers bring their fight at home and Bucky gets to meet the famous Captain America. To his surprise, both their lives change forever after that.
Far Strayed
Word Count: 18.3k Rating: Mature Notable Tags: Post CACW, Pre Infinity War Warnings: None Synopsis: “They’re not going to stop coming after me,” Bucky tells Steve, somewhere in the air above Siberia. “Let them come,” Steve replies, furious still. After Siberia, instead of seeking refuge in Wakanda, Bucky and Steve go on the run.
All My Chances Again
Word Count: 20.6k Rating: Explicit Notable Tags: Time Travel, Endgame Fix-It Warnings: Smut Synopsis: I love him, Steve thinks into the spiraling ether; I love him; let me tell him. Give me the chance to set that one thing right. If I can’t rest for saving him, let me give him all of me and hope that it’s enough. Or; Steve gets lost in the time matrix, and begs for an out. Seems confession is good for the soul—or so he hopes.
I, Barnes
Word Count: 76.7k Rating: Explicit Notable Tags: Bi!Steve, Bi!Bucky, Period-Typical Homophobia Warnings: Heavy Smut, Talk of Suicide, Non-Consenual Vouyerism, Panic Attacks Synopsis: When Steve finally finds Bucky and brings him home to New York, their reunion doesn't go as planned. Bucky disappears into the bowels of the tower, avoiding Steve at all costs. Bucky believes himself to be broken beyond repair, unworthy of any contact with Steve Rogers. But having finally gotten a taste of being around Steve again, Bucky can't just leave - he needs Steve. In ways he believes prove he's a monster unfit to live.
If Steve Rogers Were Your Boyfriend
Word Count: 70.2k Rating: Mature Notable Tags: Cafe!AU, Barista!Steve, Author!Bucky Warnings: Abusive Relationship (not Steve and Bucky) Synopsis: When he's not editing a magazine he truly loathes or navigating a rocky relationship he truly doesn't deserve, Bucky Barnes writes a fantasy romance column with an unexpectedly loyal internet following about the barista at his favorite cafe. Barista Boyfriend makes these other worlds bearable, but the real world dreamboat isn’t remotely involved; Steve Rogers is just a muse. Everyone loves the column. And it definitely isn’t killing Bucky very gently in 500 word increments, not in the slightest. What kind of a writer can't keep fact and fiction straight? James Fuckin' Barnes, that's who.
Love Me Tender
Word Count: 13.1k Rating: Teen and Up Notable Tags: Canon Divergence Warnings: None Synopsis: Steve is captured by Hydra, who for lack of any other containment options, activate the Winter Soldier and order the man to "take care of Captain America". They really should have been more specific. - OR: Taking care of Captain America is a task that the Soldier's body seems to remember how to do, even if he doesn't understand why.
Falling Back on Forever
Word Count: 24k Rating: Explicit Notable Tags: Revenge Road Trip, Identity Porn Warnings: Smut Synopsis: Bucky falls from the train in 1945. Steve jumps right after him. The Winter Soldier and the Midnight Patriot are the world's most feared duo, serving HYDRA and leaving a trail of bodies a mile wide behind them. But then they remember.
Wishes and Words
Word Count: 48.2k Rating: Explicit Notable Tags: Fantasy!AU, Prince!Steve Warnings: Smut, Past Torture Synopsis: Life is going great until the day Bucky Barnes finds Crown Prince Steven Grant bleeding out on his lands. Then it only gets better.
How Bucky Barnes Won His Second Pulitzer
Word Count: 11.6k Rating: General Audience Notable Tags: Shrunkyclunks, Protective Steve Warnings: None Synopsis: It isn’t like him and Steve go out frequently. Sometimes he’ll stop by Bucky’s apartment and they’ll binge watch tv shows, or Steve will tell him stories from ‘back in the day’. They’ve only gone out in public two or three times and it was merely quick runs to get coffee, or more popcorn. So Bucky really doesn’t understand where this Hydra asshole is coming from when he says: “The reason we took you is because we know the Captain will come running right into our trap.” (aka: bucky is an award winning journalist who really doesn't appreciate being used as bait for a beefed up, spandex-clad super soldier.)
Maybe This Christmas
Word Count: 24.8k Rating: Teen and Up Notable Tags: Shrunkyclunks, Christmas Warnings: None Synopsis: Bucky’s not going home for Christmas. But it’s fine. He’s spending Christmas alone in his apartment, but it’s cool. He’s not feeling up to seeing his family after his accident anyway, plus he has to work. He’s totally fine with it. But then he runs into Steve, literally, and suddenly his Christmas isn’t looking so empty after all.
6 Avenue Local
Word Count: 10.6k Rating: Teen and Up Notable Tags: No Powers!AU, Veteran!Bucky, Graphic Designer!Steve Warnings: None Synopsis: It takes a moment for Steve to add up the features on the man in front of him: those blue-grey eyes, a cleft chin, high cheekbones. Sure, he's older, dirtier, taller, but there's only one person Steve knew who looked like that. "Bucky?" he asks. "Bucky Barnes?" It's been so long since he's said that name out loud. "Yeah, I..." Bucky pauses. "Oh fuck," he says. "I missed my stop." Steve smiles. “Wanna get a burger?” he asks, noting the happy coincidence that Bucky Barnes, of all the people in New York, fell asleep in the same subway car that Steve would walk into, and missed his stop. “Sure,” Bucky says with a shrug. “I could eat.”
Kingdom Come
Word Count: 8.2k Rating: Teen and Up Notable Tags: Missions Gone Wrong, Angst w/ Happy Ending Warnings: Near Death Experience Synopsis: “It’s too late, Steve,” Bucky’s voice across the comm is flat, layered with static. “The deadlock’s irreversible. S’the only way.” Steve knows what nearly dying feels like; knows it better than most, and this—those words, that voice, this impossible burning that courses through him like the serum in reverse, this. This is so much worse than nearly.
Just Me, You, and These Shitty Cigarettes
Word Count: 39.8k Rating: Explicit Notable Tags: Modern!AU, Veteran!Bucky, Barista!Bucky, Artist!Steve Warnings: Smut, Dubious Consent Synopsis: Steve Rogers is pretty sure Natasha's new roommate is trying to kill him. Which he wouldn't mind considering he's been helplessly in love with him since they were thirteen.
Where All Roads Lead
Word Count: 46.1k Rating: Explicit Notable Tags: Shrunkyclunks, Time Travel, Historian!Bucky Warnings: Smut Synopsis: When Steve Rogers inadvertently touches a relic in the course of a mission gone sideways during WWII, he’s catapulted seventy years into the future. Before he's even sure where he's ended up, his search for help puts him in contact with Bucky Barnes, a historian and college professor who has built a career around studying Captain America. With Bucky's help, Steve means to find out how exactly he ended up in 2017, and solve the bigger mystery of how to get home. There's just one problem. The closer they get to their goal, the less certain Steve is that he wants to go home.
Énoument
Word Count: 77.9k Rating: Mature Notable Tags: Shrunkyclunks, Meet-Cute Warnings: Smut Synopsis: When Steve first met Sergeant James Barnes during the New York invasion, he flipped Steve off for calling him a civilian, then roundhouse kicked an alien in the face. They haven't stopped talking to each other ever since, and Steve thought it was normal for him to latch onto the first person who befriended him after coming out of the ice. Nope, turns out he was just pining.
Closed Book
Word Count: 38.8k Rating: Explicit Notable Tags: Amnesia Warnings: Smut Synopsis: Bucky woke up with a headache, a mouth that tasted like something had died in it, and hands-down, swear-to-god, the most beautiful man he had ever seen asleep in his lap. Bucky was also, he realized after a moment, strapped down to a hospital bed with about six different monitors making unsynced, equally piercing, beeps. Beyond that he couldn’t quite see—there was a hideous floral curtain pulled around the bed, and while he could just make out figures moving in the room beyond it, the pattern made his head pound even worse the longer he looked at it. So. That was concerning.

Watching The Night
Hi, this is the first piece of my writing I will be putting onto Tumblr. I wrote this a while ago, but I still like it, and I’ve put it some other places, but I was reccomended Tumblr in particular. I’d like to start writing comissions soon because I really need some money, and hopefully I’ll upload some more things soon. Enjoy :)
Ciara sat on the bough of the ancient oak, kicking her feet as she waited. Tonight was to be as typical as any night in these woods, but she adored each night nonetheless. The cold did not bother her, the darkness and shadows were pleasing and the distant melody of the wind comforted her. As dusk would give way to night, the spirits would be free to wonder for a short time, until fading away once more into the black night.
The first sign of their arrival was the distant music of hooves. Perhaps deer, maybe horse, possibly goat, she was unable to yet tell, as a great smile spread across her face. Then came the lights. Wisps of light gently floated up from the woodland floor, and soon coated the trees and clearings with spectacular light of blues, pinks, yellows and white, like motes of memory decorating a soul. Despite their fantastical light, a singular pathway of dark remained, intentionally left there, to guide the procession.
From the blackness, a soft, pale shape emerged, as first an undefined blob of movement, but gradually became clear. First came a being which resembled the middle ground betwixt goat and bull, with its head raised high and a stoic expression to its face. Behind them followed a chariot, covered in vines of ivy and arms of brambles, drawn by the spirits of wolves, with a solitary figure atop.
The figure stood, upright in posture, holding a standard, bannerless and instead adorned with a weave of flowers and branches, patterned in such a way that it appeared to create a strange face, gaunt yet kindly, with loose, vague features, shifting as the shadows passing over it changed, a reflection of world around.
As the figure themselves came into Ciara’s view, the dim glowing dots of light, which appeared to be the figure’s eyes, seemed to stare right back at her briefly, and then looked away, as the rest of their face came into view. The figure was tall and elegant, their shoulders and back shrouded with a green, flowing cape, which trailed behind them in the wind. As she focused more, she could make out a pair of horns, resembling twisting horns of a stag but with a surface more akin to the bark of a tree, and betwixt them lay a wreath of some strange holly, with berries both ripe and emerging, giving of a soft glow of life. The figure themselves had no intent to mark themselves of one gender or another to Ciara, and so she gathered previously they must exist outside of it. A sense of agreement filled her at the judgement, and she knew it to be correct, and The Lord of The Woods was pleased with her.
Behind the stag-horned spirit, followed their entourage, tonight in full force. Lords of the lakes, rivers and tributaries, Duchesses of the caves and stones, Guardians of the sacred clearings, and Emissaries of the beasts and animals trailed behind, heads slightly bowed, with calm expressions worn on their faces. Only one figure in the trail had an unbowed head; the last figure, a pale being of white, a solemn expression on their face, and curved horns of a goat atop their brow. In one hand, the spectre carried an ornately decorated, long dagger, and in the other hand a simple wooden bowel, devoid of contents. As the figure caught sight of Ciara, she bowed her head in respect, and gave a silent prayer of mercy and reverence.
As night marched ever closer, Ciara took her time to climb down from her vantage point, her eyes bouncing between the spirits’ parade and branches of the oak. As she slowly made her way down, the spectral lights danced around her, illuminating her way down, in a brilliant rainbow of ever changing light, until she had safely reached the ground. From there, she swiftly made her way to the end of the spirits’ dark pathway; a small hill, shrouded by trees to all directions, except the spirit’s path which had no trees, but instead a singular altar hewn from stone long ago, and covered by moss and ivy in the centuries since.
As Ciara came closer to the alter, she paused momentarily before taking out a loaf of bread, which she had baked herself, a small number of crops and fruits given to her by a pitying villager, and a small, shiny stone that had been donated by a kind traveler. She put these items on the altar one by one, and then took a step back. She held her hands behind her back, bowed her head slightly and kept it there, and waited for the procession to arrive at her.
The song of the winds grew louder and louder, yet remained gentle, reaching their peak followed by a fade into nothing as The Lord of The Woods had arrived. Ciara didn’t dare look up at them now, and from the edges of her vision she saw her offerings vanish slowly, disappearing in all but memory. She felt a warm sensation of acceptance, not only of her gifts, but of her as she was and is. Ciara felt a weight on her shoulder, which then traced along her body up to her chin, which was then gently raised; though the Lord stood still and stoic, she felt his touch and experienced the sensation of a smile, before feeling her head lowered once more.
The procession’s march resumed after this pause, The Lord leading them over the altar, riding a path of spectral light. Ciara’s head remained bowed until the last of them crossed over her, at which she waited some moments, before turning around and looking up at the hill. The spirits one by one marched into the hill and became nothing but a memory, and by this time only the last section of the procession remained. As they went in one by one, Ciara thought of her future and their destiny to be one day reunited and smiled wider than before.
The final spirit to enter the mound was the last of the procession. Before entering, it paused and turned around to face Ciara. For what could’ve only been moments yet felt like years, the pale spirit gave a faceless stare to her, before turning away and departing in silent understanding. Ciara took a deep, slow breath, and began her return to her village and her ordinary life, filled with dread. The pain, intolerance and neglect of her normal life were to return, for now. One day, she knew she would experience better than the ignorant doubters and bigots. As the lights faded, Ciara thought calmly about herself, and the odd kinship she had felt with The Lord. Tonight, Ciara decided, when she was free and reunited with her distant progenitors, she would be like them.

Within the Bowels of Tumblr - An Autobiographical Essay
It must have been 2013 when I first joined Tumblr due to it's large pro-ana community and the surplus of thinspo available to its users. After a while, I branched out, looking for LGBTQ resources. The blogs I had wound up following would provide ample news, support, and guidance for the LGBTQ community. I got deep into LGBTQ politics, considering myself an egalitarian, and even hopping on the promising Bernie train. With my newfound interest in politics, it was not long before I encountered authoritarian-left activists who had dubbed themselves social justice warriors (SJWs).
On the surface, the SJWs appeared to have been fighting for a just cause, but their censorship-centered campaign was off putting, leading me to question where to draw the line when it came to egalitarianism. My opinion of LGBTQ rights has, and always will be, "as long as it doesn't impede on the rights of others," thus, censorship looked a lot like muddy water. The deeper I went, the uglier the SJWs got. Despite their proclamations of equality, the message they gave was everything but. When they weren't campaigning for questionable guidelines, they would spew an overwhelming amount of toxic hatred towards white, straight and cisgendered people, men, and closeted/stealth LGBTQ members. They overgeneralized these demographics as evil, racist, rapists while claiming that bigotry towards these groups was non-existent, however their behavior alone had proved them wrong. When the SJWs weren't busy educating the general population that the mijority populose is in some way depraved and it was impossible for them to be at the receiving end of discrimination, they would announce their wishes of injury, rape, or death upon such individuals.
Upon examination of their blogs, I noticed a trend of common themes: candy-colored with chibi anime characters, cutesy things, like clouds and butterflies, and the overuse of emojis which suggested innocently blissful ignorance, such as "oWo", and "uwu". The image of cuteness and frailty was starkly antithetical of their appalling behavior. Their summary section usually contained their age, gender-identity, pronouns, sexual orientation, a list of self-diagnosed mental disorders, and a request that people belonging to their detested demographic not follow their blogs, saying it would trigger them. They would often laugh at anybody who was brave enough to point out their bigotry and hypocrisy. Once they began to lose and argument, they would start to spout out posts crying and complaining about being triggered, which was then followed by a chain of their ass-kissing followers and fans trying to cheer them up by validating and reinforcing the bigoted behavior.
Ultimately, they refused to apologize, using their self-diagnosed mental condition as an excuse for any and all of their bad behavior. Used as a badge of honor, rather than incentive to seek psychiatric help, they would misrepresent those individuals who had a professional diagnosis and perpetuate the stigma against mental illness. Any sort of feedback related to getting treatment or professionally diagnosed would lead to arguments and, once again, complaints of being triggered.
Aside from riding off the backs of the mentally ill, they treat the LGBTQ community like a fashion trend. This is done so by claiming psudopronouns, imaginary genders, or bizzare sexual identities. They lack the ability to differentiate gender divergence from gender dysphoria. Their lack of gender dysphoria precludes transgenderism, however they believe that their quirks are somehow integrated with their gender.
One example would be a man who likes to wear floral wreaths, calls himself a fairy, and asks that you call him fae/faer/faers, as opposed to he/him/his. Likewise, a women who dresses in a button-down, slacks, a bowtie, while donning a pixie-cut would call herself a "gender-confusion", defining it as "a gender that makes people confused," and request that you use the psudopronouns "voi/void/voids" when referring to her. In both examples, the individual is comfortable with their genitals. They fail to recognize that the taste and interests that they have in opposition to their sex is a common phenomenon and have deluded themselves into the belief that their personal preferences somehow define their gender. Not only do their theatrics make the LGBTQ community look like a bunch of clowns, but their baseless claims of transgenderism sustain and reinforce the belief that medical transition is superfluous.
As an SMI and FTM rape survivor, it was only natural for me to be irritated by the spread of misinformation and the outlandish portrayals exemplified by fools claiming to be something they're not, however, it was witnessing the barbaric demeanor which came with it that shook me to the bones. I was boiling with anger, and the only way I could let off steam was to assume active opposition against the SJWs. That was the start of my anti-SJW regime.
For some time, I had taken the role as a moderator for a blog once known as lgbtagainstsjws, where I was affectionately dubbed "The Hermit," a tarot card which I can identify with. I tried my best to present myself in a civil manner and not succumb to habitual trolling. The blog had a balance of personnel from across the political spectrum. Strength was the most conservative of us, however his delivery was on the abrasive side of things. After his disappearance, the balance shifted, and the blog began turning into that which it opposed.
Witnessing the tilt had me walking on eggshells. I became less active, only responding to inquiries of which could be answered without causing tension. I'd become more like my name implied, a hermit. Eventually, I woke up to a surprise in the Skype room. The oldest, wisest, and most respectable moderator, Justice had been expelled from the blog, on the grounds that her viewpoints were misaligned from their own. Since my stance was on par with that of Justice's, I quietly severed ties with the blog and it's moderators, leaving it with all but teenagers in charge.

FabFiveFeb 2020 - Virgil
Prompt 1, 2, 3, 4 - Hard, Yesterday, "I'm trying!" and Shimmer
THIS FIC IS DIVIDED IN 2 PARTS. PART 2 IS BEING POSTED JUST AFTER THIS. TUMBLR WON'T LET ME POST THE ENTIRE FIC
(I took this part from my original story, Dust, which should be published in a few weeks more or less {too busy with exams}. rereading this chapter I thought it would be a fabulous fic to display, also because it has many of the prompts inside. I know, major spoiler for when the fic will be out, but this chapter will be out so far in time that you will forget about it! [Lol I hope] I hope you like it! Prompts given by the amazing @gumnut-logic ♡)
"Where am I?" and "Who am I?" are the two questions that have been ringing most frequently in my head since I arrived here. Here, though, where? Where exactly is 'Here'?
I don’t know how I got here, and the weirdest thing is, I don’t even remember my name anymore. The man who took me always refers to me as Alice.
Alice. What a beautiful name! But I don’t remember it being mine..
Of course, the man never told me his name; he keeps telling me that I would have remembered it and that I would have recognized him if my memory had gone back, if it ever happened. For some strange reason, he was pretty sure I’d never get my memory back.
So all I did was spend eight months in this dark cell, trying to remember every detail of my life.
Yeah, I’ve been here eight months. The only thing that’s changed with my body is a concussion to my head, a scar on my forehead, and my belly was growing out of all proportion every month that went by; yeah, I’m pregnant with a baby, but I have no idea what sex it has and if it's still okay. The man who kidnapped me refuses to let me do a medical check-up.
The only thing I know for sure is that the man told me that I was already 1 month pregnant before he kidnapped me and carried me into the bowels of the earth.
If I think about it, it makes sense. It’s true that I woke up in the cell, but I don’t remember being passed out that long. I don’t know how I know this, but I’ve been unconscious, alas asleep, for a short period of time, like the time of a surgery.
The man doesn’t seem to want to hurt me, or at least that’s what I think. I’ve been stuck here for 8 months and I’ve only seen him twice. The first time was when I arrived here; I remember just waking up, remembering nothing of my past in the cell. I remember looking up and seeing him right in front of my eyes. We just looked at each other, also because I was very confused and he didn’t speak, his mouth was reduced to a very thin line. If I had the gift to go back in time, I would have cried.
The second time he came down was five months later, after me complaining all the time.
He came down to my cell, simply explaining the reason for my kidnapping: he practically locked me here because he simply wanted to take me away from the family I was with, as a sign of revenge against them.
When I asked him why he was so mad at them, he turned around and just said, "They took something of mine."
I said outraged, "So if they took something of yours, you have to do something as bad as kidnapping a pregnant woman? Can’t you get over it? I’m sure this family isn’t even looking for me!"
Only when my anger vanished I realized that I told him that I was pregnant. I shut my mouth with a hand in horror.
To my answer he smiled at me, but it seemed more like a melancholy smile rather than the evil one he wanted to let out.
"Believe me, they’re looking for you. And I won’t let them find you."
With that phrase, he went up those stone stairs that I’ve been seeing for eight months, blocking my cell again. He hasn’t been around since.
So now I just lay on the little bed in my cell, holding my belly and stroking it with my hands, with the comfort of the silence and the ticking of a clock in the distance, which marked 13 o'clock in the afternoon. Lunch time, Yee.
Ever since I told the man I was pregnant, he’s had a bed brought down, and he brings me more food than he gave me before. I’m almost treated like a queen, and it’s a little ironic considering the situation I’m in right now. Even if I’m treated like this, he insists on not letting me out, not even for trivial things like taking a bath. I mean, Ugh! I’ve been washing myself with sink water for 8 months straight, do me a favor! But for some reason, I never had the courage to ask him.
But, as I was saying before, he brings me more and more food as time goes on. He also brings a lot of water to drink. Maybe he doesn’t want me to starve to death or die from malaria? Maybe he needs me alive, or at least he needs me just until the baby’s born. Will he kill me when the baby is born? Or..
As if it had intercepted my thoughts, the little one began to kick into my belly.
"Hey, calm down, baby, I swear I won’t think about that anymore. As long as I’m here, no one will hurt you, I promise."
But the little guy wasn’t of my idea, maybe he doesn’t have the calm genes in his DNA.
It was when I heard contractions that I opened my eyes wide.
"No, hey, listen, you can’t be born now. Please, wait. Wait till Mom gets out of here, which I hope is soon."
I started breathing small and fast because of the pain, puffing like a locomotive.
Then I was filled with fear. The primitive fear that they would take my baby away from me, or that they would kill me, so that he would be left without parents. The little guy never met his father, he never had the pleasure of feeling the caress of a different hand from me and the warmth that that hand conveyed, and the words of comfort of his father. I may have known him, but I can’t remember him anymore; if I’m killed, he’ll be alone. It didn’t even occur to me that they could kill my baby. If that had happened, I don’t know what I would have done.
At that moment I heard the sound of the blinded door above opening, making a female figure appear from the darkness wrapped in a sort of purple armor. I remember her. She was one of the people I met with the man who kidnapped me and another man, maybe her brother.
I don’t know much about her, only that she calls herself Havoc, and that her brother is called Fuse; they both always turn to the kidnapping man with the term Boss, so they work for him.
Since I was kidnapped they have been charged with bringing me food and drink, more often after the 5th°month. And in fact, she had come down with a chicken sandwich in her hand and a bottle of water, but she suddenly widened her eyes when she saw the puddle of amniotic fluid that had formed on the ground.
Shit, my water just broke! No, baby, I told you to wait! Not now!
Havoc gave me a look that I could clearly not decipher, something halfway between the concerned and the softened. Strange, it was the first time I saw her so...vulnerable.
After a second she went out, coming back upstairs. A second later she came back with the man.
"So, you’re going to give birth, huh? Congratulations!"
I was shaking from the pain, the breath coming out of my lungs, leaving me breathless. "Please." I sincerely watched him whispering, ".. Please don’t take him away from me. Don’t kill him. I’ll do whatever you want."
"This is very interesting. I could get you to do a lot of things, but of all the bad things I do, I’m actually very loyal to the family, so you can go."
I widened my eyes. "What..?" then I thought about it. If he wants me to leave so easily..
Like he was reading my mind, he just looked at me.
"Now I’m sure no one’s looking for you anymore, you can leave, and they won’t even know if you died anywhere. Well, they don’t know that on principle. I’m gonna leave your cell bars wide open, and I’m gonna open the blinded door upstairs, so you can leave whenever you feel more comfortable to do so. Remember that I can always find you anytime if I want to."
And with those words he made a gesture with his hand to call out Havoc and went out with her. Like he said, he left the bars and the blinded door wide open.
I was about to get up, when he turned to the first step, stopping on the stairs.
"Ah, I forgot. Try to wear something heavy, it’s snowing outside."
I looked at my clothes. I was wearing the same skinny jeans and long-sleeved T-shirt I was wearing since the first time in this cell.
He also looked at my outfit, and then threw me a long-sleeved dress and a wool sweater. Then he disappeared upstairs again. I didn’t waste any time and tried to get dressed, barely putting on the dress. Fortunately the sweater was very wide and, even with my belly, it reached my knees. That was very easy to put on.
As I was slowly climbing the large stone stairs leading to the armored door, I did some calculations in my mind. I distinctly remember that when I was kidnapped eight months ago, the man wished me a Merry Christmas, so it was December when I was taken away from the world. If 8 months have passed now, we should be in the middle of August, if not towards the end. So why is it snowing? Has it been much longer than I’ve counted?
I finally got to the big door that I could only see from my cell until recently, wide open to a big hallway. The pain of labor made my head spin uncontrollably, but I tried to bear it as I headed into a very long hallway.
I also managed to pass the very long corridor, finding myself in front of a little door like those that are at the entrance of every house. Considering that the door was wet to the touch, and being able to feel the cold permeating from outside, I felt that was the famous exit door that I had been dreaming about for 8 months. I shrugged myself, taking courage, and opened the door to the outside world.
I managed to get out, and I have to admit it’s too comforting to breathe the air from the outside, even though it's too cold. The man was right, it had just finished snowing, the inch of snow that had formed a white curtain on the ground was still fresh.
I could look around, as much as the pain would allow me, and I realized I was in the middle of a little city. I could hear the chatter of people passing by me, the sound of the horns of the various cars passing on the street, the lights of the signs near me flashing; the wind, which made my blonde hair dance slightly, I could feel it on my face, it almost tickled me. For a moment I forgot the pain I felt in that moment, watching everything around me.
I looked at the store signs, written in a language I couldn’t quite understand, and a billboard, alone between the little stores. The poster drew my attention: it represented 5 figures, 5 guys, all in a blue suit.
"Thunderbirds...meet and greet here in Iceland on August 30th." Fortunately this poster was written in English. So I am in Iceland.
Strangely enough, even that name, those Thunderbirds, they rang a bell inside my head, causing a distant memory, a voice, inside my head. A voice that whispered 'I love you'...
Suddenly the pain that I forgot came back to bother me and take my breath away. I tried to stop a few people for help, to get them to take me to a hospital, but none of the people I stopped could understand English, not even I could understand their language.
So I walked alone to some building that could even remotely represent a hospital or a medical practice, but I involuntarily left the city, finding myself on a desolate path, lined only by a road.
The pain was too intense, so I retreated behind a bush, kneeling.
And giving birth in the snow.

Put Me In, Coach: Part 2
Summary: The Golds run into "Coach David" Nolan in the grocery store and Rumplestiltskin is seized by a bout of jealousy. A/N: Because I love jealous Rumple + Belle showing him how unreasonable he’s being. ;) Written for the June @a-monthly-rumbelling: "That's the least romantic thing you've ever said to me." Thanks to @galactic-pirates for listening to me drone on about baseball.
On AO3 | Part 1| Part 1 on Tumblr
“Well, Rumple, what do you think?”
Belle plopped two quarts of Maine blueberries down on the conveyor belt, sweet little purple globes that heralded the last weeks of summer. Tonight, Henry was having a sleepover with Gideon at their house and she wanted to attempt a homemade blueberry cobbler for dessert.
Blueberries, not apples, were Henry’s favorite fruit, a preference his mother Regina didn’t appreciate, but was a great source of amusement to the rest of the family.
Rumplestiltskin sighed heavily, pretending to be put out. “Sweetheart, if you want to bake, I’m here to coach you on to victory.” He grinned. “For better or worse, remember?”
She stuck out her tongue at him, making him chuckle.
On this go-round, he’d have to pitch in as more than just chief taste-tester if they wanted to avoid the oven fire they’d had the last time she baked.
His wife possessed many wonderful qualities, but kitchen skills were not among them. When they’d lived together in the Dark Castle, he used to hover in the kitchen doorway for the sheer pleasure of watching her burn everything from chicken to cakes to carrots. He’d developed a particular talent for rescuing her meals in the nick of time.
Once, she’d singed her fingertips in the fire and he was so furious with himself for allowing her to be hurt, he’d locked himself in his tower for the rest of the night. Belle had stormed up the stone staircase holding a tray of tea and cakes and banged on the door until he relented. That evening, she’d spent hours reading to him from one of her favorites while he crowded next to her on the settee, dutifully eating burned scones and turning pages to protect her injured hand.
Who said dark magic never amounted to anything good?
He deposited sacks of flour and sugar on the conveyor belt, as well as vanilla ice cream. Whether the icy treat would be topping for the cobbler or their alternate dessert remained to be seen.
“Oh, goodie, you remembered the one with the vanilla beans.” Her face shone with pleasure when he showed her the black carton. It was so easy to make her happy.
“Where’re Gideon and Henry?”
“Still in the candy aisle.” He shrugged. “I gave them permission to choose one item.” The register dinged as the cashier rang out the customer in line ahead of them.
“Hey, Belle, Gold.” David Nolan slid a bottle of milk and a carton of brown eggs into a shopping bag. We just got back from our week at the beach and I’m here for the necessities.”
Rumplestiltskin felt a stab of envy. The domestic errand did nothing to diminish Nolan’s masculinity. He was every inch the golden god, his tanned arm muscles straining against the confines of his short-sleeved polo shirt. He’d bet David Nolan never worried about how he looked in a pair of bathing trunks.
“Nolan.” Suddenly grouchy, he crossed his thin, pasty arms, safely encased beneath his many layers of Armani. He normally didn’t break a sweat, even in the deep August heat, but today perspiration prickled the back of his neck. He rested a warm hand on top of the ice cream to cool himself.
“Haven’t seen you since the Golden Nuggets team awards dinner at Tony’s,” David said. “How are you guys?”
“David, hi. Gideon’s around here somewhere.” Belle poked her head above the register endcap and scanned what she could see of the candy aisle. “He’s been working on his swing and I’m sure he’d like to show you.”
“His game has come a long way.” David flashed a proud smile. “But I’m in a hurry. Maybe I could stop by and give him some pointers next week?”
Rumplestiltskin scowled and drummed his fingers on top of the ice cream carton. He’d like to offer Nolan some pointers of his own. Like on how to take care of his own family and leave his alone.
“Mary Margaret’s waiting in the car, so I’ll get right to it,” David said. “Now that baseball season’s over, we’ve decided to charter a football program. Neal Junior is excited to play quarterback. Would Gideon be interested in joining the team?” David accepted his change from the cashier, and the conveyor belt whined as Belle and Gold’s small collection of groceries wobbled toward the register. “It’s tag, not tackle.”
Rumplestiltskin wondered if that was meant to be reassuring.
He suppressed the urge to roll his eyes. Did the man need to coach every sport known to mankind? Perhaps Storybrooke needed tennis, golf, volleyball, and wrestling programs as well. And American football? It was a brute’s sport, and the Underworld would freeze over before he’d allow Gideon to play.
Belle hummed in consideration. “We were going to sign Gideon up for some indoor batting sessions, but we might introduce him to some other sports, depending. Rumple, what do you think?”
He couldn’t believe Belle was even entertaining the notion. “Why not take them down to Fortune’s Rocks for surfing lessons instead?” he suggested, clamping down on his back teeth.
Sarcasm hung in the air like fog and Nolan’s brow furrowed in confusion.
Fortune’s Rocks was an inlet a few miles down Storybrooke’s coast, a place where rough sea walls crashed sharply against enormous, craggy boulders. The locals knew Fortune’s waves were only for the most experienced, danger-loving surfers. Every summer, some poor unfortunate soul was injured or worse on its punishing rocks.
His wife pressed her lips into a thin white line. “Thanks for the offer, David,” she said. “We’ll get back to you.”
“No problem. Don’t wait too long, though. Practice starts next week.” Unflappable as ever, David exited the store with his groceries balanced on one arm, he free hand raised in a little wave.
Once the princeling had disappeared, Belle sighed. “What was that all about? I thought you liked David.”
“He’s tolerable.” Rumple huffed. “Tag or not, American football is too dangerous. A sport designed for those whose brains are in their biceps.” And for those who are strong and brave.
He crossed his arms again. He really needed to get into the backyard and work on his own tan. Somewhere in the bowels of the basement there was an old set of dumbbells. Perhaps he should start sneaking into the basement to lift weights instead of spending the wee hours spinning.
“It was only an offer, love. We could have politely said ‘no, thank you,’” Belle said.
He hated how measured and reasonable she was acting, but he couldn’t very well confess it was David’s handsome masculinity that had put him in such a foul temper. “He was certainly looking well after a week at the beach,” Gold allowed grudgingly.
“Yeah, he’s a hot ticket.” The elderly cashier, who had a shock of bright red hair and wore a nametag proclaiming her as Dora, jawed on a wad of bright pink bubble gum.
Ignoring Dora’s comment, Belle turned away from the groceries to run her hands up and down his chest. “It’s not a competition, Rumple. Not a fair one, at any rate.”
“True.” He was nothing special to look at. Bland as white toast and just as dry. He cracked jokes about being irresistible to women, but he recognized the truth as well as anyone else. People were attracted to his power. Only Belle had ever cared to peel back his layers to understand the quiet, fragile man beneath.
“I suppose David’s nice looking enough if boyish charm interests you.” She wrinkled her nose in distaste. “Not me. I prefer a man with a leaner physique.”
Heat toasted Gold’s cheeks, making the cool grocery store feel like a sauna. “Sweetheart, that is the least romantic thing you’ve ever said to me,” he drawled, covering his surprise.
As usual, his wife had read him like one of her well-loved, careworn books. Sometimes her innocent sweetness stupefied him. Who in their right mind would prefer Rumplestiltskin to Prince Charming? Then again, his Belle had always been an unusual creature.
“You know what I mean.” She moved her nails along his collarbones in teasing scrapes, her breath a lascivious whisper against his neck. “Wiry. Distinguished. And incredibly sexy in my favorite paisley tie.”
“Indeed,” he managed around a gulp.
“Anyway,” Belle turned to Dora, still making a show of fixing his tie. “I don’t think David Nolan is the cheating type.”
The cashier was gaping, the sticky mess of bubble gum half hanging out of her mouth. Whether she was shocked by the way Belle was touching him or her directness regarding David Nolan’s lack of availability, Rumplestiltskin couldn’t be sure.
Gideon poked his head around Rumple’s side and Belle stepped back. “What are you guys talking about?” Their son heaved an enormous package of Skittles on the conveyor. “Cheating?”
Uh oh. A change in subject was desperately in order.
“Did you two commandeer the largest bag of candy in the store?” Gold reached down to ruffle Gideon’s curly hair and then reached up to do the same to Henry.
“This and blueberry cobbler with ice cream.” Henry’s grin was triumphant. “Only the best when I sleep over, right Grandpa?”
He couldn’t resist smiling back. When it came to these boys, he was a complete marshmallow. They all knew the candy and the ice cream were insurance policies in case Belle’s latest baking experiment went awry. “That’s right, m’boy.”
Dora rang up the enormous bag of candy with the rest of their order. “Your total is $14.47,” she said, two red spots coloring the centers of her cheeks.
“They’re talking about cheating,” Gideon told Henry. “Like at a game.”
Rumplestilstkin felt his lips twitch. “Who said anything about cheating?” He handed the cashier money for the groceries. He turned to Belle, hoping for help with Henry and Gideon, but she shook her head and smothered a giggle. Very well; he’d torture her with tickling later.
“You did,” Gideon reminded him.
A dog with a bone, Rumplestiltskin thought darkly.
“We didn’t mean that kind of cheating,” he said, then instantly regretted it. Why in the name of all the realms was he still talking?
“What other kind of cheating is there?” Gideon frowned.
Growing exasperated, Rumplestiltskin pinched the bridge of his nose. Their son’s dogged determination was a trait he’d inherited from both he and Belle. Today, it was not serving his father well. “There’s no cheating. No one is cheating.”
“Right, Grandpa.” Henry winked. “You mean this bit right here at the baseball games?” He wriggled his fingers and waggled his eyebrows.
Both boys blinked at him with feigned innocence. Gold was nonplussed. Why hadn’t it occurred to him that Henry might put the pieces together?
“Well, I…” For once the silver-tongued Rumplestiltskin was at a loss for words.
Faced those trusting expressions, mocking or otherwise, he found he couldn’t gloss over the truth.
He was caught.
Together they bagged their groceries in silence and stepped out into the sunshine. The late August breeze was a welcome refreshment to his heat-prickled skin.
“Relax, Papa.” Gideon ambled through the parking lot at his side, his long-suffering sigh far beyond his eight years. “I know all about you helping our team sometimes at the games. Everyone does. Even Coach David.”
Henry nodded in agreement.
“What?” It seemed his secret help was no secret after all.
“Whenever we needed to score, somebody would get a super awesome hit,” Gideon said. “Like Roland and me did in our last game.”
“Roland and I,” Belle interjected.
Oh, now she wanted to be part of the conversation. Mrs. Grammar Police!
Speechless, Rumplestiltskin studied the pavement as they began the two-block walk home. It seemed Neal was right after all. He was not as clever as he’d believed.
Gideon slipping his small hand into Rumplestiltskin’s larger one and squeezed his fingers. The childish comfort touch soothed his bruised ego.
“No worries.” Gideon clucked his tongue the way Belle did whenever their son awoke from a bad dream. “When I grow up you won’t have to help me anymore. I’ll be awesome at magic. But not better than you, Papa.”
“No, of course not.” He managed a weak smile. His body had continued moving down the street but he felt like his mind was still back on the sidewalk outside the store, slack-jawed and confused because Gideon wasn’t upset with him.
Although he and Belle had agreed never to discuss his cheating with Gideon, the lie had still bothered him. But he’d convinced himself that should Gideon ever learn the truth, the consequences would be catastrophic. Instead, his beloved boy was brushing off his interference as if it were nothing.
“You won’t need magic for baseball,” Belle said with motherly authority. “You’ll be able to win without any outside assistance.”
“Absolutely!” Henry looped his arm around Gideon’s neck and gave him a noogie until the younger boy howled with laughter and twisted out of reach. “Magic is a tool, not a crutch, right Grandpa?”
A lump formed in Rumplestiltskin’s throat. There was far too much compassion in his grandson’s knowing look, but even as a precocious ten-year-old, Henry’s wisdom and empathy had always been extraordinary. Rumple supposed being the son of two magical mothers made him uniquely qualified to mentor his much younger uncle Gideon.
“That’s right.” Rumplestiltskin cleared his throat, eager to move on to a lighter topic. His lips quirked and he looked at his wife. “Unless we’re cooking with your grandmother. Then we need to call on every spell in the book.”
“Henry agreed to call me Belle years ago,” she said with emphasis. Her eyes were alight with indignation but her lips were pursed with repressed humor. “As for you, there will be no blueberry cobbler!”
Rumplestiltskin gave a mock gasp and as their laughing and teasing continued, tension fell from his shoulders like scales. Arm-in-arm with his wife, he shook off the unwelcome weight and strolled past the baseball field feeling lighter than air.
Up ahead at the intersection, David’s truck trundled by, but the jealousy that had boiled up so quickly in the grocery store had evaporated, at least for the moment. Some insecurities would never die, but as he carried their groceries down the sun-soaked street and basked in the love, compassion, and laughter of his family, Rumplestiltskin was nothing but content.

A Pirate’s Life For Me (chapter 2)
Pairing: pikelan Words: 2247 Rated: M (for language) Link: ao3 Chapter 1: tumblr / ao3
a multi-chapter pikelan pirate AU - chapter 2
Since he was so distracted that night, he spent most of the next morning as well trying to figure out how to proceed. He had no idea at what time they’d woken up, since his biological clock had been a mess since he started drinking at 16, but he figured it was around mid-day when he finally settled on a plan.
Time to share.
He looked over at Pike, who was fiddling with her symbol of Sarenrae. She had a frown on her face that hadn’t been there a moment before, and Scanlan was momentarily distracted by the change.
“You okay?” he asked.
“Huh?” Pike looked up.
“You look constipated.”
She laughed and then glanced up quickly, as if she was afraid the pirates might hear her.
“I’m fine,” she then said, “I’m just contemplating.”
“Contemplating what?”
“Sending a message.”
Scanlan perked up. “You can do that?”
She nodded. “To people I know, yes.”
Oh. Well, that made sense.
“So you can call for help,” he said.
“Theoretically.”
She frowned again and he was starting to see what was going on.
“But you haven’t,” he continued.
“Nope.”
“Why not?”
Pike, who had looked the tiniest bit scared for his reaction, looked at him in surprise at his calm response. He assumed she had a good reason for it, and he could tell she wasn’t sure how she’d earned that trust from him. But, really, he knew he had only known Pike for a day, but if there was one thing that was clear it’s that she wasn’t stupid. She had to have a reason.
“My brother again,” she said.
Scanlan smiled. “That man keeps showing up.”
She returned his smile. “That he does.” She sighed. “The thing is, I could send him a message. I could say ‘hey Grog, I’m stuck in the bowels of a pirate ship, say hi to papa Wilhand!’ But then what? I don’t know where we are. I don’t know who they are.” She gestured at the deck above them. “What could I tell him? Nothing. And you don’t know Grog – he would do anything to come find me immediately. He’d get in trouble, and he would probably murder a bunch of people who don’t deserve it.” She shook her head. “I’ll let him know when I actually have something to tell him. I told him I was alive, of course. Him and Wilhand. They know I’m safe, somewhere.” Pike looked around the small cell. “Safe-ish.”
Scanlan nodded. “That makes sense.”
“Yes. But I go over that again every day. Wondering if I shouldn’t just…” Her voice drifted off and the frown returned.
“Hey,” Scanlan said softly.
Pike looked back up at his face with an open, vulnerable expression. It made him feel weird. He had people around him who trusted him usually, of course, but not like this. They trusted him because they knew him, they trusted his skills, they trusted he wouldn’t turn on them in the blink of an eye, but they didn’t… They didn’t trust him personally. Not like this.
Against his will, he felt like Pike was filling some kind of small void in his life. That was dangerous.
“We’ll get you out of here,” he told her. He walked up to her and sat down next to her on the blankets. “Actually…”
“What?”
“I might have an idea.”
Pike’s expression brightened at that, and once again Scanlan was awed by how comfortable she was with hope – how she didn’t try to smash it down as soon as it reared its head to prevent herself from running the risk of disappointment. She just went with it, radiating it, giving herself over to it.
He tried to remember whether he’d ever seen anyone as beautiful as Pike full of hope.
“I have some magic,” he finally uttered, “And there is this… spell. A glyph, really. It’s really powerful. If I imbed it in the ship, it works as a sort of group charm. Once it’s activated, it will charm everyone in a two hundred foot radius for as long as I manage to keep concentrating and the glyph isn’t disturbed. We could make them put us on shore.”
Pike’s eyes were wide. “You can do that?”
“I can. But it’ll take a long time.”
“How long?”
“Two weeks.”
“Wow.” She blinked. “That is long.”
“Yes,” he nodded, “And we’ll have to somehow keep it a secret for those two weeks. I can only do this once. If we’re disturbed, we’re fucked.”
“Right.” Pike nodded emphatically.
“I thought maybe we could use the blankets,” Scanlan continued, “If we drape them over the glyph ever time I need to take a break or sleep, we should be able to keep it hidden.”
“Yeah, that sounds like it should work.” Pike shook her head. “I can’t believe you can do something like that. You must be really powerful.”
Scanlan shrugged. “Really powerful people can do it quicker, I think. I’m just glad I know how to do it.”
“How do you know?”
“I read a lot.”
Pike arched an eyebrow at him.
Scanlan chuckled at the sight. “Yeah, you didn’t think I might, did you?”
“Not really,” she admitted.
He got serious again. “There’s one more thing.”
Pike sobered up as well. “Oh no. What is it?”
“My magic… It’s not like yours. I need sound. To channel it.”
“You’re a bard?”
“Yup.”
“That’s really cool. But… I see how that could be a problem in this case.”
If the pirates heard him playing music, they would definitely try to put a stop to it. Especially if it went on for hours every day.
“I have to be really quiet about it,” he told her, “But I’ll be very focused, so you have to keep an eye out, yeah? Stop me when someone approaches.”
Pike nodded. “I can do that.”
Scanlan sat back for a moment. He had expected that he would have to convince her that he was even able to do this. But she just… bought it. It made him feel a little bad. But, well, he was still getting her out. So he wasn’t doing anything too bad, he supposed.
Pike looked at him curiously. “You want to get started now?”
“Yeah. Sure. Why not?”
He got off the blankets, and Pike followed. They pulled them to the side and Scanlan sat down on the wooden floor, trying to focus. He flicked his wrist and a small pan flute appeared in his hand.
Pike startled. “How did you do that?”
“It’s a pocket dimension,” he told her. He flicked his wrist again and the flute disappeared.
“Wow.” She smiled. “What else do you have in there?”
He looked her straight in the eye. “Weapons.”
She sat down on the floor as well, apparently unperturbed by that declaration. “What kind?”
“A sword. Crossbow. Small hammer. A dagger too, I think.”
She nodded. “That’s a lot.”
“You good with weapons?”
Pike grinned at him. “Scanlan. I’m a war cleric. Weapons are my jam.”
Before Scanlan could get too turned on from the power in her eyes, Pike’s eyes crinkled and she sent out a burst of laughter.
“Oh wow. Get it?” she said, “My jam? Because you’re a bard?” She laughed again. “I didn’t even do that on purpose.”
And, sure, he wasn’t getting turned on anymore, but the sight of a giggling Pike did some other things to Scanlan’s head that he was definitely not prepared for.
He managed a grin, feeling slightly light-headed. “Funny.”
Pike nodded. “I’m hilarious.”
“Well,” he said, “If you need a weapon, just let me know. I’ll keep them on me for now. They’re well-hidden there.”
“Yeah, we don’t want anyone to find weapons we’re not supposed to have. They might want to keep us alive, but they’re not exactly opposed to roughing us up, in my experience.”
Scanlan went a little cold at that. “They’ve hurt you?”
Pike shrugged. “A little. I’m strong.”
For a moment, Scanlan saw nothing but red. He wanted to get up and go slaughter these assholes. He wanted to tear through them one by one and blow up this entire fucking ship when he was done.
Then, suddenly, Pike touched his face.
“Hey,” she said softly, pulling him back to the present, “It’s okay. They’ll get what they deserve at some point.”
He would make fucking sure of that, yeah.
But she did calm him down a little, and he nodded tersely.
Pike smiled at him and pulled away, sitting back down and looking at him expectantly. “Well?”
Scanlan took a deep breath to overcome the last of his fury and focused on his magic again. He wasn’t kidding when he said it was a powerful spell – he had to concentrate, and even then it would be exhausting.
He pulled out his pan flute again and held it in his hands as he started muttering the incantation. Slowly, the soft sway of the spell took him over and turned into music, until he was singing quietly to himself in the small cell. He glanced over at Pike, who was watching him, enraptured, and then he closed his eyes.
The music stayed soft, somehow, even when he could feel the magic taking hold and he started drawing out the glyph on the floor. It would be around five foot by five foot, and casting it mostly consisted of drawing the same lines over and over again while singing the incantation at it and using an instrument as a spellcasting focus. When his throat started to ache and his voice started croaking, he turned to his flute and channeled the magic through there, playing soft notes while he drew on the wood with one hand. It took hours before the lines started to become the least bit visible on the floor – a faint, flickering glow that signified the start of the glyph.
The whole time, Pike divided her attention between watching Scanlan and watching the door, waiting for the inevitable to come and interrupt them. At some point, Scanlan’s music almost lulled her asleep, but she managed to keep herself awake and alert enough to notice when someone started approaching the hatch to their little cubby in the ship.
Quickly, she tugged Scanlan’s arm that was holding the flute away from his face, and Scanlan stopped mid-incantation, the lines on the floor becoming invisible again. He looked dazed.
“Someone’s coming,” she told him hurriedly.
Scanlan just nodded sluggishly. There were bags underneath his eyes that hadn’t been there before.
“The flute,” Pike urged.
Scanlan managed to flick his wrist and make the small instrument disappear just as their pirate friend started descending the stairs. He had their one meal of the day in his hands. Scanlan was really glad that his disguise didn’t disappear while he cast a spell, because he wasn’t sure he could have mustered enough energy to fix himself up at the moment. He felt like he could fall over any moment.
Pike must have noticed, because she hurried over to him and wrapped her arm around his waist, letting him lean against her so he stayed upright.
“Don’t fall,” she whispered, obviously worried. She didn’t look away from him, instead inspecting his face for invisible injuries, even as the footsteps approached their cell and stopped in front of it.
The pirate snickered. “Am I interrupting?”
“Always,” Pike told him without looking away from Scanlan.
“Maybe I should just sit back and watch,” the man taunted.
“Watch our staring contest?” Scanlan said, without looking up either, “You’re welcome to.”
The pirate snorted and dropped their one meal of the day into the cell through the bars. “Food.”
“Much obliged,” Scanlan said. Pike was trying to repress a giggle.
The pirate was clearly disturbed by their lack of fear or even interest in him, so he stomped away without saying another thing. As soon as he was gone, Scanlan dropped his head onto Pike’s shoulder. She grabbed his arms quickly and positioned him in front of her so he could lean against her fully. He took full advantage of it – he was exhausted, and she was very soft.
Pike brushed his hair out of his face again, this time paying attention to get the hair that wasn’t visible because of his illusion as well. She smelled nice. But since she’d been in this ship for weeks, that had to be his imagination. Was he that tired?
“I could take a nap,” he mumbled into her shoulder.
Pike laughed softly. “I got that idea, yeah. Maybe you should.”
“M’be.”
“Come on.”
Pike let go of him for a moment to drag the blankets back over the spot where he’d started making the glyph and then took his hand to guide him onto it. He huddled up against her and made a protesting noise when she started to move away.
“What is it?” she asked him, her voice soft and gentle.
“C’n you stay? Y’re soft. ‘nd warm.”
“Alright.”
This time, Pike was the big spoon. She wrapped herself around him, and Scanlan let out a content sigh. Even though their sleeping arrangements were incredibly uncomfortable, he still felt himself drifting off to sleep – but not before hearing Pike start to softly sing to him, a gnomish lullaby that he remembered vaguely from a long, long time ago. And it must have been because he was so tired, but at the sound of it, he started to cry very quietly.

TW: BLOOD/GORE MENTIONED
so the scariest fucking thing happened to me yesterday, i woke up from a nap to basically a murder scene out in the hallway and kitchen/living room and my dog no where to be found so of course i panic so fucking hard im essentially shaking and to the point of sobbing and trying to find her, well she hears my panic and because shes such a good fucking girl came to check up on me despite the fact she was in pain vomiting and sh*tting blood. she tried to crawl under my bed again and lay down but i grabbed her and held her while my partner went to wake his parents (who adore this dog mind you, to them she is their granddog and they will do anything for her) and because it was sunday our usual vet wasnt open and the emergency clinic closest to my house wasnt taking any patients because the vet had called out for a family emergency. (im still pissed off at the company for only having one vet at an EMERGENCY vet hospital but i dont blame the workers/vet there since they have no control over it) so we have to go to one farther out which was essentially a thirty minute drive and these people make us wait for four fucking hours in a hot parking lot with a dog who needs to be hydrated.
luckily my dog is the sweetest and fucking best girl in the world so she waited like a champ and drank some water we found in the car (it was only opened a day or two prior but never fully drank) the first time she tried she immediately vomited it back up but the second time she held it down and got a bit of her energy back and when they finally took her they asked us over 400$ up front for just a diagnostic, money we did not have with us at that current moment. so in the end we told them just to give her fluids and anti-nausea and we’d take her home for the night and take her to our normal vet in the morning because i could not trust these people with her especially after the wait (which they told us only three dogs were ahead of us and they took SIX families before they even talked to us) and the reviews on the place where mostly terrible (im exaggerating a tiny bit it was almost 50/50 between 5 stars and 1 but still) and so they gave us her back with a fluid bubble under her skin to help the dehydration a little told us that what she would need was food (we read the discharge papers and it told us she wasnt allowed food for 6 hours) and then told us theyd go grab the discharge papers (we waited 15 mins before my MIL decided to go inside and get them) we paid for everything and then we left.
i had cried so much, i even cried out of pure relief seeing my dog again that when i finally calmed down my eyes stung and i had the worse kind of headache but i was just so happy to have my baby back. she did so fucking well during the night too, she drank a lot of water when we got home and held it down all throughout the night and this dog, being the best fucking girl got up three times to be taken outside even though she basically had no control over her bowels (she didnt make it the first time but she tried to hard to warn us she needed to go) and this is a dog that was leaking blood from both ends still trying not to go in the house because she tries so fucking hard to be a good girl and everytime she has an accident she gets so fucking upset and embarrassed because she wants to be good. well after she settled into her little den i made for her in the floor so she’d be elevated and covered to keep her temperature up, i made a nest for myself right beside her on the floor and we both passed out around 2 almost 3 in the morning. my MIL comes and wakes me up at 7 and we pile into the car and take her straight to her normal vet, and that’s where she is now. they told us that theyd give us a call later and that we’d most likely be seeing them again around 4-4:30 and the relief i felt knowing she was in safe hands, with people i trust and people who adore her and give her so much love when we come by even for just normal check ups was the best feeling i could have after the past 19 hours.
ive decided not to talk to my family about it atm since i know that itll only bring out really negative emotions and that isnt what i need right now but i just had to talk to someone, anyone, and the tumblr void seemed to be the best bet because this post will most likely disappear within said void. i know my mom will try to make me feel better but her relationship/view of death itself makes me extremely uncomfortable and her morbid way of trying to cheer me up is again, not something i need right now.
finally i just want to say my dog did her very fucking best to be a good girl and she ended up being the best girl. she is quite literally the best dog i could have ever asked for. i love her so much and she is the best
#tw blood and gore mentioned#tw blood mentioned#tw gore mentioned#its honestly not that much but id still rather tag it

The Witch King of the North and the Prophecized One Who Will Defeat Him (or how Lorrainna Kilbern’s life went downhill on her 16th birthday)
I thought I’d share some very rough brainstorming for a high fantasy/chosen one story that’s been floating around my head for a long, long time. I recently shared this in my NaNoWriMo Discord server with my friends. It was fun to write and thought I’d put it up here for tumblr to see!
About two weeks or so ago, I posted this (much more polished scene)! It’s about the villain of the story.
It’s super long so it’s under a read more!
The story opens the day before the protagonist’s (Lorrainna) 16 birthday. She doesn’t want a party since 4 years or so ago, her parents left and never returned a month before her elder brother’s (Ben) 16th birthday. However her friends are planning one anyways. After a lengthy discussion with Ben that night, Lorrainna sort of accepts that there’s nothing that she can do about her friends.
It all ends up moot because in the early morning hours of the next morning, Lorrainna and Ben awaken to something scuffling about in their shop below their apartment. The two of them go to investigate and discover several, horrific monsters (fiends) ransacking the place. Ben jumps to defend the place as it is their livelihood and encourages Lorrainna to run and get help from their neighbors. Lorrainna, however, has grown up with stories about magic, monsters, fiends, and a nightmarish Witch King from the northern continent and doesn’t want to leave her brother to what she thinks is a definite death sentence. Lorrainna begs her brother to flee with her and to come back with the city guard. Before either can argue more, the fiends open a dark portal and start to pull Ben into it. Lorrainna jumps in to save him, holding on to him for dear life.
As the fiends go to pull them apart as they fall through the portal, creatures made of pure light appear out of nowhere and attack the fiends. In the scuffle and confusion though, Lorrainna and Ben lose their grip on each other and become separated.
Lorrainna blacks out (or something) and when she comes to, she is no longer in her home and is instead lying in an unfamiliar alley. The entire city around her is different than the desert oasis she grew up in. People around her are speaking the language of the north, which she has only heard a bits and pieces of from traders. It hits her that she is smack dab in the middle of the “Witch Kingdom,” transported their by dark/evil means. Lorrainna quite promptly freaks the frick out and causes a scene while frantically calling for Ben.
She, unfortunately, attracts the attention of a group of teenagers. They follow her, yelling and obviously jeering at her. Lorrainna decides to cut her losses and take time to compose herself so she ducks back into another alley to get away. They follow her to continue harassing her. It’s only then that she notices they have some barely big sticks. They jump her and beat her. Or they try to. Lorrainna manages to wrestle a stick from one of them and proceeds to fight back. Something that the teens seem to find infuriating.
Before things get out of hand, two more teenage boys show up. An off duty palace guard initiate (Julian) and a mage student (Dierks).
Dierks quickly disables a couple aggressors with spells while Julian makes his status as a palace guard known. Those who weren’t incapacitated by Dierks flee. Lorrainna definitely wants to run from the “Witch” but finds herself unable to. Because he’s frozen her and she’s been kind of beat to shit.
Dierks and Julian are quick to figure out that the teens were the aggressors based on Lorrainna’s injuries. However their assurances that she’s not in any danger go over Lorrainna’s head because she doesn’t speak the language and all she knows is that there is a witch talking to her and all of a sudden he’s very interested in her eyes.
Dierks quickly casts a spell (a comprehend language sort of spell) on her. Lorrainna’s torrent of insults suddenly become comprehensible to them and they realize that Lorrainna is scared out of her freaking mind.
So, Dierks and Julian realize that Lorrainna is a bit on the terrified and will bolt side and have to gain her trust enough to calm her down. I think this happens by Dierks healing her a bit and assuring her that she can defend herself without question in she feels in danger. (This part is a bit fuzzy still. I’m working on it lol). The two boys then proceed to ask her about where she came from, asking her about why she’s so far from home (Esseris in the south) and who she came to Talmon (the “Witch Kingdom”) with.
Lorrainna very cautiously tells the two of them about the encounter she and Ben had. Dierks and Julian realize that fiends that far south and abducting people is a very bad thing. Then Julian ask Lorrainna if she knows why the fiends attacked her and her brother. Lorrainna says she has no idea but Dierks directs Julian to take a look at Lorrainna’s purple eyes.
The distinguishing trait of the Talmonian royal family. Julian turns and looks at the teens who attack Lorrainna and tells them they just landed themselves in a heap of trouble. The king isn’t going to be super excited that his kin was cornered and beat with sticks in a back alley. Lorrainna looks at Dierks and asks what in the hell Julian is talking about. Dierks then has the daunting task of asking Lorrainna several questions about her parents. As Lorrainna suspiciously answers them, she begins to realize that Dierks knows a lot of specific details about them. He ends his questions saying he doesn’t know where her brother is but that she has a cousin who has a great capacity to help her find him. That’s how Lorrainna winds up in the royal palace, meeting the man she always was told was the “Witch King,” and discovering that Talmon is technically the home of her parents and that Ben was technically born there as well. Her cousin, Isaac, is dumbstruck to see his young cousin in his throne room and is instantly overjoyed to meet a part of his family that he thought was lost. He’s also incredibly worried about the implications of her sudden and rather violent arrival in Talmon.
Isaac tells Lorrainna a story about two lovers from different worlds (her parents) and their young child (her brother) who found themselves in the middle of a prophecy dealing with the return of the long imprisoned warlock who wielded control over fiends.
This child, who carried both the bloodline of the royal Talmonian family and the Ahsophoto would be born in a time when the warlock’s (Riahrahm: working name) deal would weaken and his return inevitable. Only this child would be able to draw the blade of the great warrior king Maxine and destroy Riahrahm once and for all.
Lorrainna realizes that this child must be Ben. And then she realizes that there’s a very strong possibility that they have him and will kill him. She emphatically tells everyone that she needs to find him.
Isaac agrees with her and promises to help her do just that. However, he points out that she is exhausted physically and mentally from her traumatic experience. He encourages her to stay a night or two to recover and catch her bearings before setting out in search of her brother.
Lorrainna barely accepts. Because she’s impetuous and rash.
As arrangements are being made for her night, guards burst in and inform everyone that fiends have been spotted in the castle bowels and are tearing their way through. Isaac mobilizes his guards to seek them out and destroy them. He looks at Julian and Dierks, ordering them to protect his cousin and get her to safety.
The fight within the palace walls is on and while the king is off looking for the fiends, the fiends find Lorrainna, Dierks, and Julian.
Dierks and Julian wind up separated from Lorrainna and Lorrainna finds herself running through the halls of the unfamiliar palace, just trying to avoid the wandering packs of fiends. She’s unarmed but knows if she can find herself a sword, she can probably hold her own. Her father was adamant that she train as a swordsperson and though he disappeared four years before, she had enough training to hold her own for a bit.
That and Ben would occasionally use sticks as swords to spar with her. (Because that’s just what siblings do).
In her mad attempts to find herself a sword, Lorrainna stumbles into a magnificent antechamber. A dazzling sword is in the center of it, struck through a pedestal in the white marble floor. Lorrainna pretty quickly realizes that this is some kind of ceremonial chamber. She’d be almost certain that the sword was ornamental and ceremonial… if it weren’t razor sharp.
As Lorrainna wonders how feasible of a weapon it would make or if it’s just a prop stuck in the ground, fiends burst into the antechamber, chattering and hissing.
Lorrainna jumps backward, within a circle set into the marble (protective ward) and her hands go to the pommel of the blade. As her hands close around it, a throaty voice calls out to her.
“The second child…”
Lorrainna looks up, stunned because it’s speaking a language she understands (that spell Dierks cast on her wore off during the scuffle). She questions the massive fiend the voice came from, demanding to know who and what it is. The fiend tells her that it is only a seeker. It seeks only what it’s master requires of it.
“And last night, did you go seeking Ben?”
“The master required the boy so I fetched him?”
Lorrainna asks if he’s still alive and where he’s at. She dreads the answer but is given a slim bit of hope when the fiend replies that Ben is alive and is in his custody. “I want him back!” She tells the fiend.
“The master requires him. I sought him but now I seek that sword.”
“So why don’t you come and take it then?”-Lorrainna
“I cannot cross the ward.”
“Tragic,” she tells the fiend. Her hand is still on the pommel. Her entire body is thrumming.
“Perhaps we can come to an accord?” The fiend tells her, it’s voice like honey. “An accord?” Asks Lorrainna. “What kind of deal?”
“An exchange. You want your brother back and I want the sword.”
Lorrainna looks at the sword she’s touching. The fiends words ring in her ears. She can feel the sword moving in the pedestal. It will come out if she pulls it.
“If I give you the sword, you’ll give me my brother back?” She asks. The fiend smiles at her, “yes.”
Lorrainna’s eyes narrow. Her grip tightens in resolve. “My parents didn’t raise a fool!” She hisses at it.
She pulls the sword from the pedestal and raises it into an attack position. As she does four of the light creatures spring into being around her. They charge at the fiends, tearing into them.
Lorrainna charges at the fiend who was tempting her, bringing the sword down on top of it. It reeks backwards, shrieking at the sudden onslaught. Lorrainna drives it back as the light creatures rip into and destroy the other fiends. Within moments the only fiend left is the one in front of Lorrainna. It turns to flee. The light creatures look at her as if waiting for some direction. “Well? What are you waiting for? Go get it!”
The light creatures leap at it and Lorrainna renews her attack. The fiend is quickly overwhelmed and creates the same kind of portal she and Ben fell through the in the early morning hours. As it starts to vanish within it, Isaac, Dierks, Julian, and a retinue of palace guards break into the antechamber.
And that’s when everyone suddenly realizes that the prophecy isn’t about Ben. It’s about Lorrainna.
The sword she’s pulled from its rest is Maxin’s blade. The Blade of the Rising Dawn (again working name). And she’s the only one that can stop this ancient evil.

Alone
“....Red?” Silence, not a sound to be heard even for those of sensitive hearing. So deep within the Arcadia was he that not even the usual groans and murmurs of machinery reached. It was dark, shadow’s crowding the edges of the hall where faint lighting could not reach. His ears went back. It was dead silent and dark… but not cold. Which, while helping to fight back the oppressive atmosphere around him, did little to soothe his nerves. What was Phantom thinking? Disappearing down here after their little… well he wouldn’t call it a fight, but maybe a spat? Yes. Their little spat. “Red!?” His own voice, garbled as it was in this form, echoed back to him eerily. You know she’s hasn’t been down here right?
Canis jumped, still not used to the ship’s resident consciousness addressing him. “But she came this way!” No, she took a right about 150 meters back. Really, for a mutt I’d expect a better tracking aptitude. I bet you couldn’t find a steak if it were tied to a stick in front of you… The resident ghost snickered. “You’re lying! I can smell her.” I wouldn’t be surprised, she does come down here from time to time, and I’ve been told I mess with the senses somewhat… considering you’re constantly in me. Canis scrunched up his muzzle in disgust. “Ewwwww. Gross man.”
A haunting, barely-there, whisper-in-the-wind laugh echoed throughout the ship. Then, the pressure near the base of his neck- the one that showed up whenever the Arcadia’s consciousness was concentrated in a place nearby- disappeared. He was once again alone in the warm, dark bowels of the ship.
He huffed in frustration, shook out the remaining hibbie-jibbies and started forward once more. “Red?? Tommy!?” An hour passed, and still no sign of his companion in crime. He was fairly certain he had looked everywhere this floor could offer, even the darker storage rooms, artillery rooms, long since deserted rooms that just gave off a sense of wrong like no other. Canis was so done with this shit. His nerves were shot as it was, being surrounded 24/7 by people he wasn’t sure he could trust yet, his instincts going crazy whenever Tochiro so much as swept by. Harlock. ‘Nough said. And of course now, Phantom- his only companion, so far, even if she didn’t seem to share his opinion- with her new disappearing acts. This was the third time in as many days. But…. this was the only time he got himself lost, so far. He was fairly certain he had passed by here before, but he couldn’t smell his own scent anywhere. Tochiro had said he messed with the senses… hadn’t he?
“Phantom?!” It wasn’t his fault he sounded a bit panicked. Nope, just the echoing walls. His tail had lowered steadily over time, now it was tucked between his legs, and his ears were firmly pinned back. Taking a deep breath, the mutt turned around and tried to retrace his steps. A few minutes later, and he ended up in a completely different room, one he hadn’t found before.
“Well shit.” He growled, thought it sounded like more of a whine. Somehow, while he was looking for Tall, red-headed and angry, he had stumbled upon the massive forechamber and machinery for one of the Arcadia’s deadliest weapons. It was pitch black in the Blade’s chamber, various little technical lights danced along the cavernous room’s walls, but they didn’t do jack against the dark. Canis was lucky nobody was attacking, and that the blade was rarely used even then.
“....Phantom… you in here?” He called again, against all hope. Nobody was in here, or had been in here, for years. The air was so stale it almost hurt. He was alone, far from the rest of the crew, from the lived in part of the ship. Alone in the dark, at the very tip of the Arcadia. “....Fuckkk.”
He didn’t even try to hide that whine. He was indeed starting to lose it. He tried going back the way he came again, but walked straight into a wall instead. Where was the door? Why couldn’t he see it? “Tochiro?! I need help now buddy…. please.” He dissolved into a whining mess after that, when his calls went unanswered. No ghosts, no Harlocks. He changed direction and looped forward, only to hit another wall. He changed direction again, and repeated himself to the same results, over and over. He didn’t know how long he was at it, but at some point he had stopped and curled into a ball, shoulder sore and probably bleeding. He couldn’t tell, even if the coppery tang of blood wafted lazily in the air. Then, a miracle. “Mutt? That you?” Canis jerked up. “Phantom!?” “....That is my name.” The girl didn’t know what hit her, only that she found herself on the floor with a writhing mass of mutt atop of her. “Red! OhmygawdRedIfollowyouagainjustdontleavemehere in the dark.” Canis alternated between slobbering all over her face and pushing his face into her shoulder. In his frenzy, he forgot all about Phil’s lessons of proper human behavior, what was accepted. He was just happy. So happy to not be alone anymore. Phantom signed, but she couldn’t find it in her to be annoyed. She let him do it for a moment, before rolling her shoulders and shoving him off. “Ok Mutt, that’s enou- Hey!” Canis stole one last slobbery lick. “Enough. Come on Mutt.” She turned, hand ghosting over his head in a smol affectionate move, before she started walking toward the exit. She had a flashlight in hand, he noticed now. He looked behind him, realising he had been hurling himself in the opposite direction all along. “You weren’t back for dinner so I asked Harlock if he had seen you. He zoned for a moment then told me to go check the core levels. What the hell have you been doing?” “Looking for you, Red.” “Me? That’s stupid. You’re stupid.” “Love you too.” Phantom was oddly quiet, before she cleared her throat. “Anyway, food’s getting cold Mutt, hurry up!” Canis didn’t care if, by the time they made it to the mess, his food was luke-warm at best. He didn’t care that his shoulder needed some looking after from the Doc (ok, well, maybe he did, just a little. It still hurt after all). He was happy. He wasn’t alone.

The One Chapter 2: Temple, Sacred Ashes
I was so overwhelmed by the way you guys received chapter 1. This really is a labour of love. I absolutely cherished every like, kudos, comment, reblog and tag you all left me. It meant the world to me.
Eve, Lily, and the team head for the Temple of Sacred Ashes. The reality of landing in a war zone really hits Lily.
Since Tumblr seems to be making posts with external links unsearchable, if youd prefer to read it on AO3, you can find the link to my AO3 page in the sidebar.
Now onto the story...
The trip to the mine entrance was uneventful. The wind had picked up, whistling sharply between the jagged peaks, piercing my soft shell and making me shiver. The ladders we had to climb to reach the top were slippery with ice, and being battered by the wind didn’t help.
The trip through the mines was just as I predicted. Cassandra insisted we go slowly and cautiously, even though I had played through this introductory session enough to predict every fight. There was a realness to it now, though. The light cast by the torches was more flickering and the patches of darkness between them blacker. After the cold of the mountain face, the mine interior was stifling. The air didn’t move. Even here, on the highest level that contained only abandoned offices and empty storage rooms, it was claustrophobic.
True to his word, Varric stayed with me at the back of the group and when we attacked it was Cassandra with her sword and Eve with her daggers that took on the brunt of the fighting. She was graceful as a dancer with them. If she had been dark and lithe instead of blonde and stocky, I would have said it was like watching River Tam. But I could take no pleasure in watching her work. Every time I saw one of her blades flash through the air to slash at a wraith or stab a shade something hurt in my chest and tugged at my brain. I pushed it away, concentrating on aiming and firing my bow. All that mattered was getting through this and out of here.
The light and air of the cold mountain was welcome when we exited the mine. Not so the scattered bodies. I caught sight of one scout who’d had his bowels ripped out by a clawed hand and turned to retch into the snow. Tears of shame froze on my cheeks as the others stood around listening to me bring back up the cheese Eve had forced on me. She rubbed gentle circles between my shoulder blades, trying to soothe me. I loved her for that kindness, as I hated myself for my weakness.
Varric sighed heavily. I assumed he’d seen worse sights after the Kirkwall Chantry had been destroyed. “Guess we found the scouts.”
“That cannot be all of them,” Cassandra murmured, sounding worried.
I shook my head, standing again and taking a lungful of clean air. I stared straight at the trees down the path, trying to avoid having to look again at the ripped-up bodies around us. “It’s not, I promise. I’m sorry,” I gestured vaguely in the direction I’d been sick.
“Do not be,” Cassandra assured me. “You told me you were no warrior and I believed you.” She offered me the flask from her belt. “Rinse and spit. You will feel better.” She was right. The water took the tang of vomit from my mouth and cleared up the fuzziness from my head. “You have never seen a dead body before?” I shook my head.
“From what Oracle said before,” Varric interrupted, “the rest of the scouts will be holed up ahead.”
“Our priority must be the Breach,” Solas cut in, his voice sounding pompous and self-assured. “Unless we seal it soon, no one is safe.”
“We will help them,” I didn’t know where the conviction in my voice came from. Maybe it was seeing the bodies of the poor lads scattered around me. “We pass the rift they’re defending on our way to the Temple and I’m fucked if I’m just going to walk past and leave them to die!”
“Atta girl,” Varric gave my arm a squeeze. Cassandra turned and started down the path. “Don’t look down,” the dwarf whispered. He placed my hands on his shoulders. “Just follow me. You don’t need to look.” I kept my eyes on the back of Cassandra’s head, letting Varric guide me as we picked our way through the bodies.
“I don’t know how to thank you, mo caraid,” I whispered to him as we walked. “You’ve been so kind to me.”
Varric shrugged it off. “Never hurts to stay on the right side of someone who can warn you when a demon’s about to pop out at you. That’s us past them, you can let go now.”
We could see the Breach closer from here; follow the spinning trail of green energy that travelled from the hole above our heads to disappear in the valley below us. Looking at it made me feel dizzy so I kept my eyes on the path at my feet until Eve’s hand began to spark and crackle. “They’re just around the corner now,” I told the group.
Eve smiled. “Then let’s kill some demons.”
The scouts had backed themselves into a corner, effectively preventing the demons from flanking them, but also keeping them trapped between a wall and a rift. Varric’s first arrow turned the tide. The wraiths had to split their attention and the appearance of reinforcements gave the trapped soldiers their second wind. A lieutenant cried out in surprise when she saw her rescuers. Cassandra spun around, splitting the last wraith in half. “Lieutenant Allred, you’re alive!” I could hear the relief in her voice.
“Just barely,” the scout called back. “Watch out!” The ground behind Cassandra had begun to bubble and she darted back in time for two terrors to emerge. Magairlean. I’d always hated terrors. In game, I’d never got the hang of moving from where one was about to emerge in time to avoid being knocked on my arse. And now fighting them for real they were an archer’s nightmare: tall twig thin body, with four twig thin limbs and a twig thin tail. There was fuck all to aim at. And they moved like spiders. I could have cried in relief when Solas froze one for us. At least it couldn’t move, giving me time to line up my aim, and it shattered under combined shots from me and Varric. Eve took the chance to disrupt the rift, stunning the second and allowing Cassandra to lop off its head. Closing the rift was merely a formality after that.
“Sealed, as before.” Even Solas sounded out of breath as he steadied Eve. “You are becoming quite proficient at this.” It also seemed to be taking more out of her. That had to improve after stabilising the Breach. She’d never last through the rest of the Inquisition if it didn’t.
“As long as it works on the big one,” muttered Varric as he joined me and Cassandra in tending to the wounded and exhausted scouting party.
“Well enough for now,” I promised, passing the water skin Cassandra had left me to a scout who was hobbling but still on his feet. He grinned at me and raised the skin in a silent toast before downing its contents.
The Lieutenant had been knocked off her feet by the shockwave of the closing rift. Cassandra was the one to help her back up. “Thank the Maker you arrived, Lady Cassandra. I don’t think we could have held out much longer.”
Cassandra glanced over at us. “Thank the prisoners. Lady McKichan said you were alive and in need of help. She insisted we come this way.”
“The prisoners?” Lieutenant Allred was clutching a gash in her side but she sounded stunned enough. “Then you…?”
“Closing rifts and saving soldiers,” Eve also seemed to have got her breath back. She grinned at me. “It’s what we do.”
“Then you have my sincere gratitude.” Allred put her fist over her heart and nodded to each of us in what I recognised as the Inquisition’s version of a salute. I replied in kind, and even under her helmet I could see her eyes widen slightly.
Cassandra patted her still stunned soldier on the shoulder. “The way into the valley behind us is clear for the moment. Go, while you still can.”
“At once,” she saluted and went to begin gathering the rest of her troops. We moved together to the path that led down towards the temple.
Solas glanced at me. “The path ahead appears to be clear of demons as well. Just as Lady Lily predicted.”
“Still no lady,” I muttered. Varric laughed at me, handing me a pile of my arrows that had gone wide.
Cassandra moved into the lead with a huff. “Let’s hurry before that changes.”
Just as I predicted, the path along frozen cobbles and down scaffolding ladders was demon-free and quiet. I hated it. Too much time to think about, and I didn’t want to think. I knew there was something that had precipitated my waking up in Haven, something that had caused me to come here from the little English village where I had tried to make a new life. But there was a part of my brain that told me I didn’t want to know, didn’t want to remember. Waking up in a war in a fantasy land of elves and dwarves and magic was traumatic, but I had lived with trauma for nearly ten years. There was a worse, more personal trauma somewhere in my head that I didn’t think I wanted to remember.
Varric didn’t like the quiet either, or so it seemed from the way he constantly tried to question Solas and needle Cassandra. “So… holes in the Fade don’t accidentally happen, right?”
“If enough magic is brought to bear, it is possible.” Solas, I thought, sounded as emotionally involved as a brick wall.
“But there are easier ways to make things explode.” I wondered if he was thinking of Anders and Kirkwall. I had never played DAII–by the time it came out Martin had banned me from playing with the Xbox–but I had looked into it enough to get an idea of the story.
Cassandra tried to hush the men. “We will consider how this happened once the immediate danger is past. Which is when there will be time for explanations.” I couldn’t read the look she was giving me. Her voice was as harsh and cold as ever, but I thought there was confusion and doubt, too. Maybe I wouldn’t be handed over to Roderick as the Chantry’s scapegoat.
The sight of the Temple was as bad as I’d feared. Jagged shards of melted rock, veined with Fade-green light, jutted out from the main explosion sight. Whole chunks of wall dotted our way around to the main courtyard. There were fires scattered around, burning what little was left to burn. Cassandra pointed to a point on the path. “That is where you walked out of the Fade and our soldiers found you.” Her voice was quiet, the Nevarran accent more lilting.
“You’ve told us what people saw when Eve came out of a rift, but what of me? How did I appear?”
That surprised Solas. “You have knowledge of all of us and of the future, but not of your own immediate past?”
How could I put this? “I have never Seen my own part in any of this. I cannot See my own future. I have no more knowledge of my own path than you do of yours. Probably less. As far as I am aware I arrived unconscious, and I do not even have the vague memories of being in the Fade that Lady Trevelyan does.”
“Fascinating.” Oh, good. I interested him.
“Two rifts appeared next to one another,” Cassandra interrupted, answering my initial question. “Most eyes appear to have been drawn to the woman behind Lady Trevelyan, but one or two looked behind you.”
“And?” I dreaded the answer.
“They are vague, but all agree that there was white light, a mirror reflecting your back, and a horned shadow.”
“Well, that’s not at all ominous,” I sighed. “I suppose we’ll figure it out later.”
The courtyard was like something out of a nightmare. I gagged again and had to turn away, my eyes watering, unable to take a deep breath because of the smell of burning flesh. It was like pictures I’d seen of Pompeii. Only instead of white statues that had once been people, the bodies were still blackened and charred, some still smouldering away. They were frozen as they had been when they had died–running in panic, cowering in fear, kneeling in prayer. I was grateful the faces were too charred to see their expressions.
“Oracle?” Again, it was Varric who was concerned for me.
I blew out my breath, lifted my head high, and turned back around. “I’ll be okay, mo caraid.” As he turned to walk away, I grabbed him and looked into his eyes. “In the Temple itself, we’ll find your personal nightmare. I’m sorry.” I hurried off after the others without saying more. I couldn’t be the one to tell him we were about see the red lyrium that had driven his brother mad.
Inside what was left of the Temple, it was worse. The bodies weren’t all blackened. The ones that weren’t had all died screaming. I tried as best I could to keep my eyes on the back of Eve’s head, focusing on the intricate braiding of her golden hair. Until we were standing on a balcony overlooking the rift directly under the Breach. It was just so much bigger. Each one of the glowing green Fade crystals was at least as large as a double decker bus, and twice as long, with tendrils of green energy winding and twisting up into the Breach.
“The Breach is a long way up…” Varric murmured staring up.
I whirled at the sound of footsteps behind us, in time to see a troop of archers turn the corner into the Temple. Leliana pushed past them, the chainmail overlay on her tunic rattling as she darted over to us. “You’re here. Thank the Maker.”
Cassandra began firing off orders, but I pushed between them. “I can tell you what will be coming out of that rift. Will it help?”
“Yes,” Leliana answered, when Cassandra could only stare.
“A pride demon. A massive one. Its eyes will be level with that balcony. It’ll call some wraiths and shades to it, but that’s the biggest threat.”
“You are certain?” Cassandra seemed to have found her voice.
“Have I been wrong yet?”
Cassandra shook her head, and she and Leliana took a step away to talk tactics. Varric was at my elbow. “The pride demon is the stuff of my nightmares?” he asked softly. It was my turn to shake my head.
“Are you ready to end this?” Cassandra asked, interrupting as Leliana moved to give orders to her men.
“I’m assuming you have a plan to get me up there?” Eve asked with a raised brow, staring at the Breach thousands of feet above us.
Solas shook his head. “No. This rift was the first,” he answered, gesturing to the rift in the courtyard below us. “It is the key. Seal it, and perhaps we seal the Breach.”
“You said the Mark couldn’t seal the Breach yet?” Eve asked turning to me. I’d forgotten I’d told them that earlier. What could I do now, but tell the truth as I saw it.
“It won’t,” I confirmed. “We either need to suppress its power or magnify the power of the Mark. That’s a discussion for later. What it will do is stabilise it, make it dormant. It will stop spreading and spawning new rifts and new demons. It will stop the Mark from killing you. It buys us time.”
“Good enough.” Cassandra was fixed on this path. “Let’s find a way down. And be careful.”
We had barely started walking when the voice rumbled through the Temple ruins. Now is the hour of our victory. I was expecting it but it still made me jump. Bring forth the sacrifice.
“What are we hearing?” It was the first time I had heard Cassandra sound nervous.
“The thing responsible for all this,” I told them. Corypheus.
As we turned a corner, I saw a red glow ahead. I glanced at Varric, walking silently next to me. Too short to see what I was seeing over the top of some of the debris. He knew as soon as we reached it though. I saw him lose all colour in his face, eyes wide with horror. His voice shook. “You know this is red lyrium, Seeker.”
“I see it, Varric.” Her words were sharp, but her tone spoke of some understanding there. Anyone who knew about red lyrium would know about what all it had done in Kirkwall. I laid my hand on his shoulder.
“But what’s it doing here?” he hissed, the fear plain in his voice.
Solas was as impassive as ever. “Magic could have drawn on lyrium beneath the Temple, corrupted it…”
I drew Varric away, as he continued to stare at the blood red rocks jutting out of the stone that had once been the Temple. “It’s evil,” he insisted. “Whatever you do, don’t touch it.”
“I know, mo caraid. I’m so sorry.”
“You tried to warn me-“
Keep the sacrifice still. For all I knew it was coming, and I knew how dangerous red lyrium was, I feared hearing that voice more.
Someone help me!
I closed my eyes, despairing. Her voice was so frightened and it was already far too late to do anything to save her.
“That is Divine Justinia’s voice!” Cassandra’s voice was choked. I could only imagine what it was doing to Leliana to hear that. Her friend, her surrogate mother, calling for help and she hadn’t been there.
Varric drew closer to me as we passed more of the foul red lyrium to find a stairway down to the Temple floor. His eyes were wide and his colour still hadn’t returned. As we dropped down the last few feet to the ruined Temple floor, I spotted more red lyrium directly under the rift. We were going to have to be careful of it during the fight.
This close to such a huge rift, Eve’s whole hand was ablaze with light from the Mark, veins of its energy glowing in the back of her hand. She stared at it, as horrified as Varric had been to see the red lyrium.
Someone help me! The Divine’s voice echoed around the collapsed walls once more.
What’s going on here?
Even Eve–possibly especially Eve–looked startled to hear her voice echoing magically around us. There didn’t seem to be an obvious source for the voices, they seemed to be coming from everywhere.
Cassandra’s eyes were huge as she turned to Eve. “That was your voice. Most Holy called out to you, but…”
The rift started crackling louder, tendrils dancing out everywhere. We had all begun to back away when there was a flash of light. Suddenly, a ghostly image of the Divine was hanging in the air above us, arms outstretched as if she was being crucified, held by blood red tendrils of energy. Looming over her, was a black shadow with glowing red eyes. If only that was what Corypheus actually looked like. A ghostly Eve ran towards them asking, “What’s going on here?”
“Run while you can,” the ghost of Divine Justinia cried, anguished. “Warn them!”
“We have an intruder.” The voice of the Corypheus shadow was calm, unworried by the interruption. “Kill her. Now.” It pointed at the ghost of Eve before there was another blinding flash of white light and the image was gone.
Cassandra was the first to recover and she was frantic. “You were there! Who attacked? And the Divine, is she…?” That was the one question she couldn’t bring herself to ask. “Was this vision true? What are we seeing?”
“I don’t remember,” Eve was as frustrated as the Seeker.
“Echoes of what happened here,” Solas interpreted, gazing up at the rift. “The Fade bleeds into this place.”
“It was a true account, though that is not actually what your murderer looks like,” I interrupted. They had seen what had happened, now they needed to believe. “Eve was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And I’m sorry, Cassandra. Justinia is truly gone.”
She whirled on me. “You were not there.” I flinched and took a step back. Cassandra followed, enraged. “Where were you? Was that you under that shadow?” I stumbled backwards over a rock and fell. As Cassandra loomed over me, fists clenched, I cowered, much as I had in the dungeon under the Chantry, holding an arm to ward off a blow to my face.
Varric darted between us. “Did that sound like Oracle to you, Seeker? Does she look like she has the will or the power to do something like that?”
“I wasn’t even at the Conclave,” I whimpered. “I’d never even been to Ferelden before I woke up in Haven today.”
“Then how did you get here?” Cassandra’s anger had given way to distress. If I could lift myself out of the situation I could understand her feelings. The Divine had been in direct danger, kidnapped and bound, before the explosion. Cassandra could only imagine that if she had been there, she could have protected Justina, prevented it all. And if I was remembering correctly, she’d had an old lover at the Conclave.
From where I was sitting in dirt and ashes, terrified and alone in a strange place, accused of a terrible mass murder, I just hoped she could be brought to see reason. “I don’t know.” I knew I sounded weak and frightened. I was weak and frightened. “I can’t See anything to do with myself.”
“Given that she fell out of a Fade rift,” Eve asked gently, “is it so hard to believe that Lily was carried from a distance away?”
“No.” Cassandra turned away, anger and distress all gone. “Get up. We have to close this rift. We can investigate how you came to be here after.”
While Cassandra had been verbally attacking me, Solas had been examining the rift. “This rift is not sealed, but it is closed… albeit temporarily.” He turned to include Eve, who had been helping me up, in their conversation. She passed me over to Varric who guided me to a corner. I was shaking, tears blurring my vision.
“Someone really did a number on you, didn’t they?” he asked kindly, passing me a handkerchief.
“I don’t know what you mean,” I lied stubbornly, wiping fiercely at my eyes.
“I mean,” he replied firmly, “that someone taught you to be afraid, all the time, and not to stand up for yourself.” He waved off my attempt to return the hankie. “There’s still a spark there, they didn’t break you completely, but they did teach you to be frightened.”
“I have reason to be,” I could hear the shake in my voice. “If I can’t convince Cassandra I had nothing to do with this, I’ll hang.”
Varric shook his head. “She doesn’t really believe you and Eve are guilty. Not anymore. She’s just feeling guilty for not being there.” He squeezed my arm. “You won’t hang.”
By now, some of the soldiers Leliana had brought with her had arrived and were fanning out around the temple floor. Archers were spread around the balconies overlooking our position. I wished I was up there with them.
“Stand ready.” Cassandra’s voice echoed through the ruin. Eve scanned around and caught my eye. I notched an arrow to my bow and nodded at her. If I survived this, then I could think about what came next, not before.
Eve smiled at me, squared her shoulders, and lifted her hand to the rift. At once a tentacle of green light shot from her hand. There was a flash and she staggered back as a stream of light shot from the rift to explode in a flash of green off to one side. When the flash cleared the Pride demon was in its place.
It was as tall as I’d predicted, grey and hideously spiked in a natural armour made more deadly by the bolts of electricity that jumped from joint to joint. I caught a glimpse of seven pitch black eyes above two rows of jagged fangs before it lifted it head and bellowed, a sound that echoed horribly off the stone around us.
Varric and I stayed back as far as possible, pinned against a wall. When Cassandra roared, a shower of arrows rained down on the beast from the archers above us. As they hit, most of them bouncing harmlessly off its hide, the creature laughed, a sound which chilled my blood.
My world shrank to grabbing an arrow from the quiver on my back, drawing, and releasing. If I looked around, at the soldiers being slashed to pieces by claws as long as my arm, or grabbed by the demon’s lightning whip and tossed away, burning, I would be lost. Eve disrupted the rift when she could, freezing the thing in place and giving us time to get some more hits in. I felt the pins and needles tingle of Solas’ barrier settling on me as a shade appeared in front of us. Varric grabbed a dagger from his boot and slashed at it, as I ducked to avoid a swipe of its claws and Solas froze the thing. I shouldered into it, knocking it down the pile of rubble we were perched on to shatter on the ground below. Varric shouted some vague thank you to the elf, but I was too busy drawing and aiming again to pay much attention.
It felt like forever before the demon fell to its knees. “Now!” I heard Cassandra call. “Seal the rift!” My eyes flitted over the battlefield, searching for Eve. She was practically underneath the rift, standing looking battered and bruised. She looked blankly at Cassandra who roared, “Do it!”
The green stream of energy shot from Eve’s palm as she lifted it. And we waited. All previous rifts had closed in seconds but time seemed to stretch out now. Eve staggered closer to the rift and I couldn’t tell if she was pushing herself forward in an attempt to force the rift closed or if it’s power was dragging her closer. Finally, it exploded upwards, and I watched in awe as a shockwave rolled over our heads and out of the Temple. A green ball of energy travelled from the exploding rift up into the Breach, which also flashed. I heard another shockwave follow the first, but couldn’t see it, blinded by the explosion above me.
When my eyes cleared, Eve was unconscious on the ground. Varric made to dart forward, but I stopped him with my hand on his shoulder. “She’s alive. She’s just exhausted herself.” He stopped and stood with me, watching as Solas examined her, Cassandra looming over the elven mage. He only let out his breath when Solas looked up and nodded to Cassandra. The Seeker immediately started barking orders to the soldiers around her.
Varric looked up at me and smiled. “Time to face the music, Oracle.”

Yes. (Continue.) The biggest game-changer is keeping a puppy on a leash until they potty before letting them off to roam free in the yard or in the house (or even before taking them for a walk). $29.99 It’s normal for a young puppy to be a little ‘input-output’ machine. Since puppies are growing and developing rapidly, they eat food often, burn up lots of energy and seem to need to eliminate constantly! They also have not yet developed bowel and bladder control, so they can’t ‘hold it’. Socialization Crate Training Socialising your puppy TRY IT TRY IT Leave It Command Manhattan, NYC Great hub! A dog may become afraid of rain through an association with thunder and lightning, or it may respond to the owner putting on a particular pair of shoes by fetching its leash.[44] Classical conditioning is used in dog training to help a dog make specific associations with a particular stimulus, particularly in overcoming fear of people and situations.[45] Answered Mar 29 2016 · Author has 445 answers and 1.2m answer views Open Dog bite prevention code for your first purchase: The Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD) has a unique testing process that involves handling your dog. fbq('track', 'ViewContent', content_ids: 'dogtraining.dknol', ); What we can help with Walks and potty breaks are two different things, at least in the initial stages of house breaking. Potty breaks are trips to the yard specifically for the purpose of elimination. Walks are walks. A walk can be used as a reward for appropriate elimination, but never end a walk following appropriate elimination behavior. There are two huge benefits to maintaining a laser focus on your dog when he is not confined. First, you can start to recognize and reward your dog’s “gotta go” signals. When your dog begins to pace, circle, and sniff, you can applaud his signaling (“Awesome doggie! Let’s go, go, GO!”) and rush him to his potty place. Rewarding “gotta go” signals will encourage your dog to become more demonstrative when he feels the urge – communication that is as helpful to us as it is to our dogs. Most dogs only follow one step of causality, that means what “happened right before this moment.” If you come home and scream or get upset at your puppy for having an accident inside, all your puppy knows is that you came home and were mad at him or her. Research shows that dogs do not feel guilty. This study investigated 14 dogs. The dogs had the option to disobey their owners and eat the treat or not. The owners did not know if the dog ate the treat or if the scientist took the treat away. Even if the dog did not misbehave, he still “acted” guilty when the owner was upset. The research showed that the so-called guilty look was a response to cues from the owner rather than the appreciation of a misdeed. Preventing your dog from pottying in the wrong place is the first and most important housetraining task. Since most of us cannot keep our eyes on our dogs every minute, having a safe, comfortable confinement area is key to housetraining success. Most dogs naturally avoid going potty in their sleeping areas, so confining your dog in a small enough area that is more bed-like than room-like not only prevents unwanted accidents but also will help him develop bowel and bladder control. Yelling at your dog after the fact just confuses them and makes them nervous around you. If you catch your did in the act you can try to get their attention & move them outdoors. If you’re successful & they continue going once you get outside praise them like crazy. As your puppy becomes more reliable about using his toilet area and his bowel and bladder control develops, he can begin to spend more time outside his room or pen with you in the rest of your home. Begin by giving him access to one room at a time. Let him eat, sleep and play in this room but only when he can be supervised. When you cannot supervise him, put him back in his room or pen. Cat Teeth Cleaning & Dental Care “We have received one or two other calls from other individuals saying they had witnessed other events at that location and we will be investigating those as well in the future,” said Weikel. I primarily use crate training as I firmly believe it’s the most effective method and I’m also a strong believer in the idea that every dog deserves to be crate trained to enjoy the continuous benefits it offers throughout their life. The use of belly bands, doggie panties, and potty pads in sleeping areas may help lessen the burdens of clean-up. SAFETY NOTE: Be sure to have your dog on a leash at all times when you take him off your property, unless he’s reliably trained to respond to off-leash commands. Even if he seems like he’s going to stay close to you, he can easily become startled or distracted and run away from you, which can lead to him disappearing or being hit by a car. "Are there any good arguments for requiring health insurance. Ive only heard arguments against it?
Ive heard the car insurance one, not very solid. I also have heard there will be hardship exemptions and certain levels of income earned that will determine how much help will be given in purchasing insurance. Just looking for somethings to note when someone brings up this part of the bill

So is there any health insurance for those with serious medical conditons?
My younger brother who's only 20 years old has a host of serious illnesses: crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and a few more conditions that has constantly kept him sick for a good portion of his childhood. He's missed at least half a school year on a number of occasions, and despite his maturation he's still heavily affected by his conditions. Obviously, it's practically impossible for him to hold a steady job, he'll work for a while and then he'll have to take off a month or two just to deal with his illness, with that said he surely won't have employee health insurance. Currently, he's using our state's medicaid, however once he turns 21 he's no longer eligible for medicaid. With the health care system being the way that it is, is there any possibility that he could continue receiving health care despite his ineligibility? He takes a ton of drugs daily, and even takes some of the same medications that our grandparents take lol. I know some of you heartless conservatives believe he should provide his own health coverage, but how? His drugs cost thousands, and he's in the ER constantly, thus making his health-care only affordable to extremely rich individuals. When healthy, he does contribute as much as he possibly can, however for someone in his condition it would be downright shameful if he can't continue to receive any healthcare.""

Car Accident Advice: Someone hit me and doesn't want to go thru insurance?
Someone recently hit my car while it was parked across the street from my house. I almost thought it was a hit and run till I found their business card on my windsheild. I called her and she said she'd rather not go through her insurance but pay me directly for the damage to my car. I have been in accidents where I was hit but usually the other person just gives me their insurance info and I call them and get my car fixed fast, no problems. So I was already a little hesitant about agreeing to this, but I figured as long as it gets fixed it should be alright. So I did like she said and got an estimate from a body shop, then called her with it. Right off she said, Oh thats really high,(almost a 1000) and I reminded her that the damage is pretty severe, she backed into my rear passenger door, now entirely dented and scratched up. I know the estimate is fair compared to other work I 've had in the past. So anyways, I thought she'd decide right there like she had told me before, if it was affordable for her she'd pay me if not she'll go through her insurance. So since she acted like that was so much money I asked well does that mean you want to just use your insurance? She still sounded unsure and said she needs to figure this out. So it's been another day since that, still waiting, she did call again and say she's running it by her insurance agent to see which way would be better for her, insurance or pay me off. So I am still waiting, it's only been a few days since the accident but I am getting anxious because I kind of wish she would just give me her insurance info and go through it, my car would probably be in the shop already and this would be taken care of. But instead I 'm waiting for her. She still has not given me her insurance info, I don't have her license plate # or even what her car looks like, just a business card. And its a big inconvenience because I know I will be without a car for a at least 2-3 days, and even if she pays me she sure didn't mention a rental car. So my question is am I being too nice by waiting for her to decide whats best for her... and even if she wants to pay me should I have gotten her insurance info, like is that my legal right. So how long should I wait for her to decide?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as obviously I should act fast. Thanks""

He never did, they are now divorced and there is no way he is taking responsiblity for it. Result, my insurance went up $80.00 per month. This was five years ago. Recently, I moved to a new location and I have to park on the street, because of this my insurance will go up $30.00 a month. So now I have to pay $230/month. I have been driving and with the same company for over 25 years but they won't give me a break. Should I change companies, any suggestions? Thanks""

We have found some smaller companies that do an exclusion to deal with the problem but the rates are higher. Does any body know of any major company that allows this to happen? Thanks for the help.

Which car would insurance be higher on?
Hi, I'm 16 and I'm getting my first car. I've saved up a chunk of money to make the down payment and 2 or 3 of the monthly payments (my parents are paying for the rest). I've narrowed it down to 2 cars of about the same price. A 2004 MiniCooper and a 2005 mustang (v6). My parents will be paying for my insurance so I was hoping you could tell me which one would have a lower rate so I could make it easier on them? I already know it's going to be high because I'm a teenage driver so whatever helps really. A mustang is kind of, sort of, sports car-ish (I'm not big into cars people, ignore my ignorant terminology) so I figured that would have an effect on the insurance. On the other hand, a minicoop is very small and I don't believe they're made in the U.S like a mustang is so parts and stuff would be higher if I'm correct? Thank you very much for any help!""

Unemployment insurance in california?
Last year I was unemployed. To make a long story short, i took a job and was there for less than 2 weeks. I was forced to pray, and listen to scripture that was muslim. I am very understanding in all religions, but do not practice myself. I was very uncomfortable and left. EDD decided that i left without cause and that i did not deserve insurance. they made me pay back what they paid me and 30% more. I did so even though I didn't agree. Now that I am laid off again, I filled out a claim and got a response saying that I was eligible, and they gave me the forms to fill out for the first two weeks, the standard claim forn. I filled it out, and now got back letters saying that i am not eligible for benefits until i have filed a claim for each of the 5 weeks in which i am otherwise eligible for benefits. I haven't received new claim forms. I am assuming that I will get these, and I will fill them out for 5 weeks, and then they will pay me? So I am looking for clarification, after claiming 5 weeks they will give me my benefits? Thanks for your help, to anyone that has gone through this. It is so unfair! I paid them so much, for something I felt I was justified doing, and now I am still being punished! I would rather be working and not have to worry about this, but it is so hard to find a job :( not a great holiday.""

Getting Older Is Not About Eating Less, It Is About Enough Nutrition
I have been helping PEOPLE FIND their best health for a while. Nutrition for the middle age and above is eating to feel good, and avoid genetic diseases, and definitely keep the belly fat to a minimum. Food that works for one does not work for another.
Bo, my friend, is getting complaints about not eating the meals that are being fixed for him. He is a Blood Type B, and has found out that by eliminating chicken from his diet, he has lessened his chronic fatigue. It is challenging to do this eating plan, because there is so much pressure from his peers. He found, it is best to keep quiet and go and find food that is "right" for him. It is also a challenge, as it is amazing how many products have ingredients in them that are not "good" for him. This is why I heartily recommend whole food. It is much easier to put a meal together this way. Bo is feeling better and his overall health is improved, his arthritis is greatly improved, and CHRONIC FATIGUE is a thing of the past. Sallie is my friend from college, who graduated as a Medical Technologist with me. She first heard about the "Eat for Your Blood-Type Diet" and was skeptical. I gave her the book, and she said nothing grabbed her attention. She gave the book away. Then in 2009 her daughter-in-law gave her another book. She had undergone allergy testing, and wheat, corn, and peanuts came up positive on the test. She was amazed when she looked under Type B in the book that wheat, corn, and peanuts were on the AVOID list. These for, Blood Type B, are especially responsible for weight gain, and are inhibitors of an efficient metabolism. She had to stop and think about her diet, and how she felt at 58. She found it interesting that she had always disliked tomatoes and beans, both on the avoid list. (There are beneficial, kidney, navy and lima beans for Blood Type B.) I personally, have some kind of beans EVERY DAY. She had been on a gluten-free DIET for about 2 years, and hadn't felt many changes, except her GI tract seemed to be better. The same wheat, corn, and peanuts also cause hypoglycemia in Blood Type B. She has had trouble with hypoglycemia all her life. She decided to first cut out the wheat, corn, and peanuts. She still eats yogurt, which had previously, made her hypoglycemic, and made sure she found brands with NO corn syrup. (in my 8 keys to basic health which have been expanded to 10, I recommend, that no one eat high fructose corn syrup). Within a couple of months, she noticed she wasn't hypoglycemic. She would get hungry, and not get the awful symptoms of hypoglycemia. She lost 5 pounds without trying, and was suddenly IMPRESSED! Since she has been diligent about avoiding foods that cause hypoglycemia and weight gain. She also stays clear of foods on the avoid lists. She slowly added in the highly beneficial foods to her DIET, and also now eats non-processed foods at all meals. She is eating more vegetables, which is hard for her. It takes time and effort to fix something we have not grown up with, so we can eat it. She now eats nuts and fruits too. As a Blood Type B she is challenged, finding some meats, and she now eats lamb and fish plus beef, buffalo, and turkey. She still makes chicken for her family even though it is an avoid. I assume she doesn't eat any. The hardest and most challenging part of the diet is eliminating wheat and corn. She thought gluten-free was a challenge, and wheat, and/or corn are in everything. Gluten-free products usually contain corn flour or corn starch. She just found out that the gluten-free flour blend she was using contains gelatin, which is on her avoid list. She would try a bakery gluten-free bread, and later discover it has corn flour or buckwheat in it. She has done a lot of internet searches to find usable products. She found an almond flour cookbook that is fabulous, and uses ingredients she can use. Almond flour can also be used to produce low glycemic goodies. Mexican, Italian and Chinese food contain wheat, corn, and tomatoes. Tomatoes are also on her avoid list. She says it makes eating out difficult. (Turkey would be most beneficial for her or buffalo burgers, and not too many restaurants serve this.) She will try to eat small amounts of wheat or other avoidance food maybe twice a month. She doesn't notice any new symptoms unless she eats way too much of a certain food. She ate a whole wheat waffle just to see what would happen. That night she woke up with a MIGRAINE HEADACHE. She hadn't had a headache in years. She has had blood work done regularly, and 6 months after starting the blood type DIET, she had more tests run. She was surprised to see that her A1C levels, glucose, and insulin levels declined dramatically. In the past they had steadily risen. She now had proof her metabolism was more efficient. Her intestinal tract improved even more, and her allergies have almost, disappeared. She has fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue with is common for Blood Type B. She is not sure the diet has/or will cure this, still she does feel better. (I hope she gets 100% better.) She was taking arginine for her heart, since Blood Type B's need this to help get rid of their stress factors, and support their heart. She Googled fibromyalgia, and found that it may be caused, or be a result of too much nitric oxide. To get arginine naturally, turkey and spinach are good for starters. It is better to eat precursors and nutrients naturally. Pills can be "too much". Working to DECREASE STRESS is most important, as this can inflame our adrenals, and even make us hungrier. Knowing what foods benefit your system the most, can reduce one factor of stress. She sees a chiropractor and physical therapist, which have all contributed to better health. She takes extra magnesium, and is on a licorice SUPPLEMENT from a naturopath. Her next step should probably be adding in a memory herb, like ginseng or ginkgo, and do the Membrane Fluidizer Cocktail in the morning. Eating for your blood type is quite the journey. Her family thinks she is crazy. She will continue to follow this DIET. This diet fixed her hypoglycemia, and is all the proof she needs, to know, that it works. She looks forward to more research results and hopefully improved health. I, myself, am a Blood Type A. When I started this eating plan, my cholesterol was over 200 (about 225 and rising). I am concerned about heart disease, and type II diabetes, since high cholesterol and sugar, run in my mother's side, and fat bellies run in my father's side. I would "try" things too, in essence I would sabotage my eating plan with potato chips and white rice. Hence, this process is a journey, and healing your colon, so it recognizes good food, and can process it effectively. I eat totally the opposite of the BLOOD Type B's. Buffalo, Beef, Lamb are on my avoid list. Fish, (the cold water kind) are on my highly beneficial list, and Chicken and turkey are on my neutral list. I actually eat a fish every day. I eat canned salmon, canned tuna or grilled salmon. on top of a large green (romaine) salad, with beans. (Blood Type A beans, are Black eyed Pea, Black Beans and Pinto Beans) I have managed to lower my cholesterol under 200 (187) and normalize my hdl's and ldl's (according to Sallie, out of balance ldl's especially L 3 and L 4 are what cause heart disease in women.) Very important to normalize those ldl's. I even fixed my constipation problem, and take care to keep things running smoothly. In my other articles I have described how eating too much fruit caused problems, and how finally something on my avoid list caught up with me. I have formatted my e-mails to give important health advice, and how I eat my fruits and vegetables to get some of each, and not cause DIGESTIVE issues. I have since seen this way of combining protein and veggies, TWICE! When to eat fruits in Marilu Henner's book, and "The Truth about Abs". It works!! My family thinks I am crazy too. I KNOW I feel better, and have found what my genetics are missing, so I can correct it with alternative sources. I will never quit eating this way. Old Blogs
I’m going to leave all the old stuff on this blog. There was a lot of playing around with it in the early days, now seven years ago. Crazy to think that I have had this space on the internet for 7 whole years. The last 5.5 years of it have basically just been funny pictures reblogged or uploads from Instagram. I haven’t really been writing in this space since then. I wrote the occasional article in the early days, but I was just kind of just trying it out. There was no rhyme or reason for what I was doing, and Tumblr seemed like the Wild West back then.
I thought about deleting everything from before and just starting fresh, but I thought better of it after looking back there and seeing what still existed. I don’t really recommend that you do that, but it’s there if you want it. Or you could just follow me on Instagram, because for 5.5 years, it’s pretty much the same thing. Also, I want to keep it there because I have had blogs since 2000 and they’ve all disappeared into the bowels of the internet, and I wish I still had all that angsty writing, if for nothing else to just chuckle at it and remember the times, good and bad. The Internet Archive has helped a bit, but these were hosted on GeoCities and pre-Google Blogger, with my own URLs, and I’m certain they didn’t crawl and save things back then like they do now. Alas, here I am again, starting (continuing?) another space where I write.
