Synopsis: So much can happen when the cameras are gone. Rihanna has known about an article where Chadwick Boseman mentioned her. When the two finally run into one another a year after the publication, they share a moment in time that becomes a secret they’ll never forget.

THEIR SECRET (2/3)

The First Night

… He stood to meet her embrace. Her arms wrapped around his neck. His slipped around her waist. The stilettos gave her the height to mold into him perfectly. They felt each other exhale against the contact. “Spend a night with me,” now it was a question, whispered in his right ear before she pulled back.

“One night sounds impossible,” his eyes lowered on her as her face came into view.

“Then we can make it two. See you in five,” she didn’t wait for a reply. She smiled slightly, sashaying toward the private lounge exit.

The image of her lingered long after she was gone. Including the scent of her perfume. A part of him felt distant from the moment as if he was only imagining it. Uncertain. Conflicted. He contemplated, taking one last look towards the exit.

He flagged down the bartender to cancel the order of drinks. Closed his tab. Headed for the exit, fishing out the phone vibrating in his pocket. Read the screen. Slid the bar to the right, placing the phone to his ear.

“Pops, how are you?”

“Blessed, son. How are you? Sounds like something’s going on?”

“Your timing,” he shook his head. “Facing somewhat of a dilemma,”

“Talk to me,”

Stepping outside of the lounge, he eased up his hood to conceal himself for as much and as long as he could. He spotted the opening elevators and a growing crowd. He hung back.

“I, uh,” he knew his father was a straight shooter. No need in beating around the bush. “I’m considering spending the night with someone I’ve been intrigued by for years. Someone other than Simone.”

“Her name?”

“Out of discretion for her, I—,”

“No, no, I understand. Is this a fan?”

He thought about it. “Not exactly. You know I would never exploit a fan,” he pretended to be interested in a stand of newspapers, waiting for pockets of people to disperse in separate elevators.

“Well, you have more to think about in regards to the long-term girlfriend who may very well become your wife,”

“Which makes this a confession,” he lowered his head down on the newspaper as a crowd strolled by. “Before committing the crime.”

“Son, you are a man of integrity and I have known you to be nothing less. Don’t let the overnight fame get you in something you can’t get out of. We are honorable men and I don’t expect you to compromise that with some woman you’ve met, whom you don’t see a future with.”

Chadwick offered only silence, clinging to the word future. He and his father both knew how fickle that word meant now.

“Chad, are you there?”

“I’ve been on the straight-and-narrow my entire life. Give or take a few growing pains,” he paused. “Life has seemed to give up on me before I’m ready to give up on it.”

“I know where this is going,” his father exhaled. “This is not the kind of decision you should make under these circumstances. You’re one of the most disciplined, admirable men I know, Son. There ain’t no need in me preaching about what you should and should not do as I know this is not how you have ever navigated life. All I offer is that you be safe. Not just for yourself but also for her and the permanent people in your life before and after your last breath. And ain’t no need in overthinking about that either. Our legacy are the lives that we touch, which I know you are well aware. Like you have always done, be mindful of the impression you imprint on others.”

Someone near the elevator appeared to be pointing in his direction. “Thanks, Pops, I gotta go.”

“Be safe, Son.”

Chadwick placed the newspaper calmly and neatly before making a smooth break in the opposite direction. He cut a corner in search of an alternative route, opting for the grand staircase in the distance.

Chadwick approached the door, lowering his hood. Just as he was about to knock with an opposite hand, the door swung open. His eyes lowered with his fist, a relaxed gaze taking in every inch of her.

“Boseman,”

He smiled.

“How many autographs did it cost you to make it here?”

“None,”

“Ah, stealth,” she glanced over her shoulder. “That’s to be expected. And you made it on time,” her eyes appreciated the slight nervousness in his, “It cost me about 20,” she flashed her manicured fingers, bucking her eyes to exaggerate her statement and to lighten the mood. “A cute family of four nearly followed me here. But, of course, security,” she stepped forward, gripping his arms to adjust him slightly. She popped her head out into the hallway. Waved. Behind dark shades, the guard only offered a nod. She pulled back and eyed Chadwick. “No worries, he minds his business and is quite harmless,” she stepped back, looking him from head-to-toe and back up again. “You smell like I thought you would.”

His laugh was more of a grunt out of surprise just as she slipped her palm in his, guiding him inside.

“Mind if I take your jacket,” she turned to face him, releasing his hand, missing its firmness and warmth. She watched him bring the pullover past his head down to be folded neatly in his hands. She admired the length of his fingers and the visible veins with his movements. His nails were full and clean. She stopped his hands from folding. “Relax,” she winked, taking the pullover to toss it beside them. It unfolded as it landed on a chair. She stepped further inside the room. He followed.

“Sometimes, I schedule getaways. Staycations for me to just relax,” she looked over her shoulder to meet his gaze. “To silence the noise.” When he came to a stop, so did she. “Someone on your mind?”

He took a step aside. “There’s a lot on my mind,”

“That’s not what I asked you,”

“Well, of course. But I’m here… with you.”

She smiled, extending her hand. “Then be fully present and join me.”

Her palm was soft, cool. Taking small steps behind her, his eyes traced the neck tattoo hidden beneath curls. He slowed them down, tugging at her hand for her to shift and mold into him. He inhaled, drawing in her fragrance. Subtle. Feminine. Sexy. She felt his chest rise against her back and relax when he exhaled. There was always something mysterious about him. Concealed emotions that she felt now through his touch. It was this thought that made her feel sexy against him.

She cut her eyes over her shoulder, letting him get a glimpse of her consent before his lips came near her left ear. To her surprise, he didn’t say anything. At least not with words. She felt a small kiss. Then, another on her neck. Lower. She didn’t feel his hand leave hers but felt his finger brush away curls cascading from her ponytail. His lips brushed against the back of her neck, making her eyes close. She tried to keep her breathing steady. His kisses were patient, much like his hands. She felt strong fingers intertwine with hers. She relaxed against him completely, happy she decided to keep on her heels. She maneuvered a little against his pelvis, satisfied when she heard him draw in a breath. Suddenly, she felt his warmth disappear.

She opened her eyes, feeling a little disappointed as his fingers slipped from hers. She watched him head towards the phone, stopping himself to take in the view.

“All of this on the third floor?”

“A hidden gem,” she smiled. “What are you doing?”

“You said you wanted champagne. I don’t think I would have made it up with two bar glasses. I’ll order a bottle,”

She stepped forward, eyeing him suspiciously. “You’re nervous?”

“Not exactly,”

“Prove it,” she challenged, crossing her arms over her chest. She adjusted her stance under his gaze, playfully rolling her eyes. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

For the first time, watching her closely, he realized she was nervous too.

He smiled, assessing their surroundings. “We can enjoy this together and still respect those we are with,”

“Pardon me,”

“I know you’re with ASAP,”

“We are merely dating,”

“I have a feeling there’s something more there than you’re willing to admit in this moment,”

She felt exposed.

“No judgment, of course,” it was his turn to extend his hand. “Tell me what you want.” … to be continued.

the way you choose to be represented is very important and has always been because it's a powerful tool -the way kings represented themselves in painting, dictators or presidents for their official portrait is really important and says a lot about them. here, Kelly, her agency and the editor-in-chief decided that it was a good idea to appropriate the usual representation of drivers: the helmet on the cover, the racing suit, cars visible on almost every pictures and filming the promotional video inside a garage and filming her driving a car with a racing helmet/suit, justified by the narrative of «she can because she's the daughter of a world champion and the partner of a world champion/F1 driver so it's part of who she is» but it makes no sense because Kelly isn't a racing driver and more importantly, don't want to be a driver, she wants to be a model and made it clear on her interview, so why using something foreing for «her» cover and moment? it was a prime opportunity to go beyond the «someone's partner, someone's girlfriend». and it doesn't make sense either with her persona: she never wears anything motorsports related, hardly post about it if it's not Max and don't seem to follow any other racing categories than F1 -she doesn't look like a motorsports fan that would attend many racing events or closely follow races/championships and doesn't fit her instagram vibe:

something I find interesting: out of all the picture posted by @.kellypiquetsource, she choose to post on her own account only the ones linked to motorsports, not the ones next to the swimming pool that are more model-like. most people won't buy the magazine, so they will link Kelly Piquet to racing because of the promotional video and the way she appropriate the codes of racing. if I'm being honest, if I see this magazine in a store, I won't think she's just a model on the cover of a magazine because when someone's name is clearly visible on the cover and is linked to a sport, it means that the person is know in this sport. for example: (there is not a lot because athlete usually do more model-like shootings if it's not a sports magazine) but we can mention these:

the cover choice of Vogue NL really looks like one of photos of the Harper's Bazaar Arabia featuring Amna Al Qubaisi — link to the article because it's really interesting (and the photos are breathtaking) and clearly, there is no difference in the structure of the cover than the 2 previous magazine cover, when the 3 other than Kelly are professionnal athletes. you can genuinely thinks she's a racing driver.

here the covers of 2 females drivers in not-motorsports magazine: we see the leather jacket and helmet for Susie and the racing suit and gloves for Jamie (when the other girls are wearing dresses) -helmet, leather jacket, suit and gloves are really linked to motorsports and say «that person is a driver» and were used by Vogue to link Kelly to motorsports.

2 other example: Georgina Rodriguez magazine covers (she had them and a career thanks to be being Cristiano Ronaldo girlfriend so it makes sense to compare the two) it's very fashion and not related to football at all because she tries to build her own persona (and her Netflix show is going on the same direction -I didn't watch it but that was the idea of it I think 😅) her name is not in the middle and she looks like any not-famous model you can see on magazines. the other example is Zhou that, like Lewis did (but as we always talk about him I choose my beloved Guanyu instead, so many people sleep on him 😅) choose to not use the usual racing codes you can see on motorsports magazine. nothing is racing oriented, you can't think he's a F1 driver when you look at the cover, it's really fashion oriented.

here, I put 4 covers of Vogue Netherlands featuring models without their names on the cover so they choose to represent Kelly as a known person because her name is really visible, known in the racing world because it's not fashion photos and the racing world is everywhere, and as a driver because there are all the codes of racing. on the other collage, I put 4 athletes on Vogue covers: Lovlina Borgohain, (a professional boxer), Naomi Osaka, Neymar and Serena Williams > none of them, like Zhou, used their sports for their image when it's their whole life and the reason they're known (I don't forget about Gisele she's just not the subject here)

I honestly don't think it's dramatic she got a cover that way but I was expecting a fashion photoshoot to back what she keeps trying to do: becoming a model -I don't consider having done 2 professional shootings for magazines and invited to less than 5 shows in 1 year being a model), but not a full racing photoshoot. she keeps saying motorsports is part of her life, but where? she didn't mention in the interview the only thing she did in the sport: working for the communication of FE. I really dislike the fact that she used codes that aren't hers only for a shooting because she don't care about racing, so it makes no sense, and if Vogue wanted to put a racer on the cover, they just call one or hire models but they don't make someone that never drove a racing car a «female in motorsports» because real woman in motorsports are hardly given any screentime or attention, struggle so hard to have sponsors to drive and face so much sexism -it makes me sick that any wag has more followers and attention than female racing drivers, or that people cares about the woman working in motorsports only if they're pretty. this is a prime example of it, because she's not just «a model», they made her part of the few woman that worked so hard to be there, when she never did.

she's «more known» as a model, they should have stick with that and focus the article on fashion (especially when people say to defend her «it's a fashion magazine» well, then how do you explain that athletes on the covers talk about their career and journey on «fashion magazine» interviews? plus she has a rather good fashion sense and worked in the field before, and it would have fueled her career as a model. and the interview wasn't even about fashion at all, but her private with Max. that being said, the way they promoted the article here (I can't put the screenshot, it's only 10 media/you can translate it with google) clearly shows that she's a side character on this: on the cover because of Max -I guess they wanted a couple shot like the ones below- and about racing because of her dad. about her dad, it's ridiculous and disgusting that Vogue could shot at his house and casually mention him and put his name on their magazine but the police can't find him when there is an enquiry about him for being racist, without forgetting about his nazi salute, the fact he threatened the new president but we put his name and house on display???

Playing Dragon Age Origins Awakening! Thus far:

The whole "zero to hero in the first installment, a leader with authority in the sequel" is my new favorite trope.

Anders is a funny guy. I'm not quite as big a fan of him as I am of Alistair, but he's charming in his own right.

Speaking of Alistair, his unique dialogue for having married my Warden was a delight! My mom thinks he's gotten smoother.

Velanna is like a more openly angry, elven Morrigan.

I think I'll like Nathaniel. His story is interesting, especially considering that my character is a Cousland. His voice actor did a good job. I should look into Simon Chadwick's other work.

Oghren, oddly, warned me Nathaniel might "pull a Zevran on me," despite Zevran never betraying my character that playthrough.

Also, based on Leliana being a Fade spirit in II and Inquisition if she died in Origins, my headcanon for why importing a save with a dead Warden still allows them to be playable is that they are a Fade spirit in that scenario.
