Shipping should have always been just a fun pastime but alas, the shippings wars have soured everyone over it. I still remember when after one certain specifically colored panel of Tangle and Whisper, some twitter lunatics went on a round saying that shipping Tangle and Whisper with literally anyone other than each other is forbidden now because it's not just "muh canon!" its also "muh rep!", with people shipping SilverxWhisper and SonicxTangle taking most of the hits. Another part of the shipping community that's becoming a slight pet peeve of mine is when they do comic page edits to "make them less straight", usually by overdoing the blushing so much the characters start looking like they are either drunk or are having a fever.

I remember that tweet. It's exactly the obnoxious "shipping is activism" behavior I can't stand. A fanart where Silver and Whisper look at each other blushing is not going to invalidate the literal lesbian flag that is in the comic. Also c'mon, as if Sonangle and Silvisper are even remotely as popular as Whispangle by now! It's the fan favorite couple! You're just lording over the superiority of your ship while pretending to fight for the dignity of real life lesbians :\

I saw the same thing in the SU fandom, a person being harassed for a joke comic where Mystery Girl made 👀 eyes at Greg pissing Pearl off. That counted as lesbian erasure, apparently. bruh. bruh you think a fanart would erase the lesbianism of Steven Motherfucking Universe? I understand fighting against misconceptions but holy shit pick harder battles to fight

(not even worth pointing out that in fandom it's massively more common to pick characters canonically straight and depict them as gay or bi. It's also not uncommon to say that a female bi character in a relationship with a woman is actually a lesbian. also i remind of that full comic headcanoning amy rose as a lesbian who only crushed on sonic because of "comphet". but those are okay :) )

 Silver always went to check up on his garden every afternoon. The dew slowly fell off the plant's leaves. Usually, it was humid like a normal summer night but today was pleasant. He was taking out the bad grass as he cleaned the sweat coming off his forehead. Silver smiled to himself as he remembered how Blazed helped him to create this small place of his. He deeply missed the purple cat and was wishing they could meet again, some way or another.

He was happy that he was getting to experience the past. It was hard for him to think about his future. The past was a daily reminder of how much the future needed him. The thought of staying here was tempting but there was no way he was going to let his future be ruined. 

  Silver began to whistle, it was a song he didn't quite remember where he learned it from. He could see how the sun went down completely, he noticed how the small blues, yellows, and oranges that tinted the sky completely disappeared. It was dark now and even when he was such a happy place, the night reminded him of the gloomy future he had ahead of himself.

Silver stopped pulling the grass for a moment as he heard something coming from the other side of his garden where the sunflowers were.

“I know it's you Shadow, just come out and get them,” Silver said as he turned around to face the criminal.

However, it was no criminal. It was a blond wolf he admired very much. The Guardian Angel of the battlefield.

“Whisper?” Silver panicked for a moment as he realized that he must be looking terrible in front of his idol. Sweaty and dirty. “Oh, I didn't expect to um ... see you here! I thought you were Shadow for a moment.”

“Why?” Whisper asked as she moved her head to the side, intrigued by the white hedgehog in front of her.

Silver realized that he was speaking too fast, he always did whenever he got nervous. He stood up as from the ground and tried to clean himself as best as he could before getting near the wolf.

He tried to come up with a different topic to talk about. However, he found himself at a loss of words as he took a closer look at her.

Whisper was wearing her normal attire except that she wasn't wearing her black cape. Her shoulders and collarbone were exposed to alleviate the heat of the night. Silver knew she was pretty but there something different about her tonight. Maybe it was the moonlight on her, the romantic scene around them or the fact that it was their first time that they were alone together.

Silver wasn't one to be interested in romance. He also didn't mind it but if he ever liked someone in this timeline, then it would only be platonic.

So why was he getting so flustered for?

Whisper noticed that Silver was staring at her for too long and she decided to question him again. “You haven't answered my question.”

Silver snapped out of his trance, he moved his head from side to side. “What?”

“Why did you think I was Shadow?”

Although Whisper didn't mind Shadow the Hedgehog, she still didn't want to be associated with him in any way possible. She wanted to know if she was doing anything that resembled the black hedgehog so she could stop doing it immediately.

“Oh, that ...” Silver looked around the place nervously. If Shadow knew about what Silver was about to do, he would surely end him. However, Silver knew that he could trust Whisper and that she wouldn't care about what he was about to say.

Silver let out a small laugh and said, “Well, Shadow always comes and gets some sunflowers.”

“He ... does?” Whispered asked, more surprised than ever. Who would have thought that the gloomy hedgehog was the type to like sunflowers?

“Yes, he comes every week, picks up the sunflowers and ...” Silver made a pause. “Secretly gives them to Amy.”

Silver could see that Whisper was as surprised as he was when he first found out of the black hedgehog's secret. She opened her eyes a little and then closed them.

“I didn't know he liked her,” Whispered said.

“Me either, but one day I caught him stealing my sunflowers,” Silver added. “And I told him that if he wanted to continue to pick up flowers, he needed to tell me why he was doing it.”

“And what did he say?”

“If there's one thing Shadow can't do is lie and well ... he told me about the small crush he has on Amy,” Silver smiled as he remembered how flustered Shadow was when he first told him his secret. “Who would have thought, right?”

Whisper nodded. She wasn't Shadow's biggest fan and a part of her didn't like him. But she couldn't stop herself from mentally smiling. Someone as serious as Shadow had feelings ... go figure.

On the other hand, Silver was starting to feel even more nervous, A few seconds passed and they weren't saying a word. What should they talk about next?

Silver watched how the dry wind moved Whisper's long ponytail from side to side. The sunflowers behind her moved to the rhythm of her hair. He noticed that she was looking at him directly on the eyes as if she was waiting for him to continue.

“So ...” Silver scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. “What are you doing here? Not like I don't like your company, I like you! Well not like that um I like you but-”

“I came to steal your sunflowers,” Whisper answered softly, she smiled as she noticed how Silver was stuttering.

“So you were going to steal my sunflowers!” Silver said proudly and Whisper let out a small giggle. Silver was amusing in many ways and this was just one of his many sides.

“Tangle's birthday is tomorrow and she loves sunflowers,” Whisper said. “Amy told me that I could find some here.”

As Silver processed her words, a thought came to his mind. Recently, Amy was acting strange towards him.

“I've been getting sunflowers from a secret admire,” Amy said as she ate her lunch next to Silver. “I wonder who it is.”

“Yeah, I wonder too,” Silver said, already knowing the answer to her question.

“Maybe it's a close friend, maybe ...” Amy made a pause. “Someone like you?”

Silver didn't think too much about it and responded. “Yeah ... probably.”

Chaos, Shadow was going to kill him.

That 'probably' could have been a confession that Silver was the one sending the flowers and not Shadow. Silver had completely forgotten that Amy knew that he planted sunflowers. From a logical standpoint, it made more sense that Silver was the one sending the sunflowers to her and not the gloomy hedgehog.

Because who in the world would think it was Shadow?

Now Silver was flustered and almost 100% sure the black hedgehog was going to kill him after he finds out.

“Shadow is going to kill me,” Silver let out a sigh.

“What?” Whisper asked angrily and for a moment Silver thought that she had understood the literal meaning of it.  

“I think Amy thinks I am the one sending the sunflowers to her,” Silver said as he got closer to the small section of the sunflowers. “So in a sense, I am the one courting her and not Shadow ... he is going to punch me, I know it.”

“No, he won't,” Whisper said as he followed Silver to the sunflower section.

“He will.”

“No, he won't,” Whisper looked at Silver in the eyes and with the most sincere look in her face she added, “Because I will protect you.”

   His heart was racing faster than he ever thought it was possible. Without noticing, he felt the heat going up to his cheeks again. How was he supposed to respond to that? Thank you? What if she thinks that he is weak?

“I mean, I am strong! I am sure I can take on him! I would totally beat him up!” Silver stuttered a little. He picked up some of his gardening tools, a pair of scissors. Carefully, he began to cut out some sunflowers for the blond wolf. “So if you ever need me to ... I'll protect you as well.”

Silver looked over at Whisper who had a soft surprised look on her face. Had he messed it up? Was he too straight forward? Did she think he was a creep?

“I mean you are strong! I know you don't need me but-”

“I always need you, Silver.”

He discovered that Whisper was very talented at two thins. At shooting with her Wispon and at making his heart beat faster and faster.

Silver decided to go back to his work. He felt bad cutting off the sunflowers at first. They were so beautiful and they looked even more beautiful together. However, he was happy to know that their beauty would be shared with others and bring them happiness as well.

“Thank you for doing this,” Whisper added as she watched Silver approach her with a bouquet of sunflowers in his hands. “I know it must be hard to let go of something you love.”

Silver smiled as he handed over the sunflowers to Whisper.

“Anything for you,” Silver said as he watched Whisper have a warm smile on her face. “It's a bit sad but it makes me happy to see you smile.”

This time it was Whisper's heart who beat rapidly. She felt the warmness going over her cheeks and at this, she knew she was blushing.

As soon as she grabbed the flowers, she turned around as to hide her evident embarrassment. Silver didn't know what he said for her to have such a sudden change of heart, he wanted to go after her and apologize for whatever he did wrong.

“I need to go it's getting late,” she said as she walked away. However, she let outs whisper loud enough for Silver to hear. “Your smile makes me happy too.”

Silver watched her walkway into the night and deep down he wished he had accompanied her. Without noticing, he had a smile planted on his face. He was sure that he would be seeing Whisper very soon in different circumstances hopefully. Maybe walking on the beach or having a picnic together in Mystic forest or-

“Tsk.”

Oh, dear Chaos.

Silver knew that sound anywhere. He prayed that it wasn't but deep down he knew who it was.

“Sh-Shadow?” Silver he turned his body and face towards the place that sound was coming from.

Shadow was standing in front of the sunflowers. His hand crossed and his eyes had a stern look on them.

“First of all, I believe the blond wolf likes you,” Shadow said as he walked towards the trembling Silver.

“Second of all, I don't think it was right of you to share my intimate life with her.” 

Silver was walking backwards slowly but as he did, the quicker was Shadow to close the gap between them. 

“And third of all ...” Shadow looked down on Silver, cold red eyes stared at golden ones. “Do you really think you can win against me on a fight?”

At that moment, Silver knew he was going to see Whisper really soon ...

A/N: I hope you like this! This was my first time writing some Silver and Whisper content so it was a challenge! And of course, I had to throw in some ShadAmy for the heart! Anyways, thank you for the prompt! Love you always boo!

Why Silver Should've Been the Star of Sonic Boom-

I would've like a Silver the Hedgehog centered spinoff. He was a character I liked and I thought he'd be fun to explore as a lead. It's not technically a game but he's a time traveller from the future. There's alot of mileage you could get out of that.

In fact I think Boom would've been better off as a Silver-centered spinoff. It's supposed to be separate from the others and it being 200 years later is an easier way to establish that.

You could even adapt some of the games as future episodes. They just happened in the future era than the present. History repeats or rhymes after all.

Chip gets reawakened, the amusement park from Colors gets reopened etc. Instant plot hooks.

You could just grab the characters from the comics or the 2d characters like Mighty and Ray. But Blaze could have a descendant named Ember who befriends Silver. ;)

Tangle and Whisper also work. Especially if you ship SilverXWhisper.

Plus Silver could be tweaked more easily to fit the Jak and Daxter style vibe the game was going. His 06 gameplay style was modeled after Knuckles and Rogue. It's more about exploring and puzzle solving, treasure hunting etc which is what Jak and Daxter has broadly.

 I was a big fan of the "Ghosts of The Future" fan comic by Evan Stanley. Silver is written like a Peter Parker like everyman and I think its a good hook for Silver.

A potential subplot is Silver being trained by an older version of Shadow.

That also sets up crossovers. He's a time traveller so Shadow just gives him a mission. It's a stable time loop set up.

And if it fails..... 😉

PS. This would've been a cool unlockable outfit for Sonic Boom.
