SILVERBORN THEORY

This is like my second time writing a theory about anything ever so please pretend my rambling is coherent lol

what if morrigan’s mum is nevermoorian?

i think she’s from a family from the silver district, and for some reason left to go to jackalfax. Potentially she kept contact with her family, telling them about Corvus and eventually morrigan, and since she’s gained more notoriety in the last book, they are trying to get back into contact with her by inviting her to the wedding.

perhaps the “murder mystery” of silverborn is that of morrigan’s mother…

here is how I got here:

morrigan often writes about seeing nevermoor as “hers” somehow, maybe this is a bit of foreshadowing? (Stretching tbh I do think more that this is more of a worrying thing about her parralells with Ezra)

there don’t seem to be any wundersmiths in the wintersea republic historically. Mog had never even heard the word before coming to nevermoor. I know there’s obviously not been one for a while because of Ezra squall and the cursed children, but you’d think there would be at least a few lingering wundrous acts the way there is with nevermoor. Perhaps only nevermoorians can have this gift and a few other cursed children are also descendants of nevermoorians as well somehow?

morrigan’s grandmother was willing to sign the paper work for her to attend the wundrous society. With Corvus’ ever changing staff rotation, him and Ornella are probably are the only ones in the house who would remember mogs mum all that well, or know that she was from nevermoor. Even if ornellla didn’t like her mother very much, perhaps she felt mog deserved to go to the world she belongs in.

The blurb mentions solving a mystery “in her own past” this is what really got me thinking about it in the first place tbh

the book is called silverborn, potentially meaning mog herself is related to a silver district family?

uh yeah! Lemme know what you guys think or if there’s any glaring things I’ve missed lol

I just said it recently, but the theory that I believe in (I can't remember who came up with it) about Morrigan's other bids on Bid Day is that the other bids were made by Squall so that he could send Corvus and everybody else in Jackalfax on a wild goose chase while he talked to Morrigan alone. The fake bids would be a perfect cover, because an anonymous bid for a cursed child is breaking news, but a series of prank bids are just an annoying stunt.

The more iffy part of that theory is that it also might help explain why Devereaux Ladies' College is one of the bids, because Noelle Devereaux is probably from a very important Nevermoorian family, and Squall is obsessed with Nevermoor, so Devereaux would be an easy name to think of.

Any predictions for silverborn?

Hi! Sorry this took me so long to answer, I realized I didn’t have anything to give you and ended up rereading all three books 😭

But honestly, I don’t have any predictions I’m super confident in. My primary theory is that It Will Make Me Sad. But here are some things I’m sort of hoping for!

It would be fun if “silverborn” was a dragon thing. A type of dragon? A rank among dragons? Not totally sure, but I’m very intrigued by the idea of dragon societies in Nevermoor, considering they have their own language. Silverborn also just sounds like a dragon-y word. Don’t know why, but it has the vibes.

Maybe a “silverborn” is a kid born on Morningtide? In that case, the silverborn would likely be Squall since the book is supposed to focus on his backstory (maybe explaining why he knows the Morningtide’s Child song).

I honestly don’t think it’s related to the Nevermoor Silver District, (feels too obvious) but. I wouldn’t be exactly opposed to seeing Noelle again, now that she lost the trials & has been disgraced etc etc

I want to learn about the Wundrous Art related to mind control! Squall would probably be eager to teach this one, right? Being classically evil and all.

I hope Jack learns about the apprenticeship before Jupiter does. I don’t know how this would work (maybe Jupiter is gone when she gets home? maybe she somehow finds a way to manipulate the Gossamer as a Wundersmith? I don’t want him to lose his knack :( but maybe that?) but I’m curious to see what his reaction will be!!

ALTERNATIVELY: Jupiter knows but doesn’t ask her about it, making her think he doesn’t know, because he isn’t ready to deal with it yet. It’s tough being a single father of two teenagers yknow

Squall should find increasingly strange secluded places to host his lessons with Morrigan. in an abandoned warehouse. in her bedroom in the middle of the night, suddenly appearing without warning. in Cascade Towers. inside a Ghostly Hour. in the middle of a Tricksy Lane. in Crow Manor while they are both on the Gossamer line. in Maud’s office.

Maybe this will be the book we learn Arch’s hair & eye colors! please.

More Wundrous Divinities! specifically, I would love to know what it takes to master Nocturne (if that’s even a thing that happens), since Morrigan seems to have that down pretty well. maybe something to do with the thing she did in Wundersmith when she destroyed a globe through the sheer force of letting wunder go? Or maybe it’s just a matter of control. Maybe it’s, like, a thing you get once you’ve mastered all the other Wundrous Arts? not sure. But I would love to learn!

nevermoor headcanons :))

here are some headcanons i came up with randomly in the randomest moments, like when i was on the verge of sleeping and suddenly, boom, there’s a thought lol.

hawthorne wanted to be a dragon when he was really little, like 6, so he went around biting other kids.

francis was definitely on one of those cooking shows for kids and would stare at other kids in digust when they accidentally started a fire

 before morrigan came to nevermoor, in school she used her curse to her advantage and would tell other kids terrible predictions. like if they would say a snarky comment she would look them dead in the eye and say ‘what beautiful hair you have, too bad it’s going to get burned off.’ and leave them crying

whenever unit 919 are being annoying to miss cheery she threatens to take them back to that library

mahir starts ranting in other languages

in another universe, thaddea definitely looks up to vi from arcane.

whenever anah tries to comfort someone when they’re physically hurt, she just ends up talking about their injury in grave detail.

cadence found out that puppy in hollowpox was abandoned somehow and now the dog is apart of unit 919

thats all lol, a bit ooc but i like them so imma post them.

Why doesn’t Conall use his knack ?

Why did Wintersea want to get rid of all the Wunimals (I know there’s just a general hatred of them, but she must’ve had a bigger reason to go to Squall)

Where is Mildmay? Is he alive, doing things?

How were they able to steal knacks?

I wouldn’t mind a bit of Fen backstory

On that note, Jupiter’s unit content pls

Where are Jack’s parents? Why is he in nevermoor

Are knacks genetic? (Jack and Jupiter are both Witnesses but we haven’t seen much of a pattern in terms of this)

What happened to the cursed children that Jupiter didn’t bring to Nevermoor ?

okay but seriously.how is Mog going to hide Squall’s apprenticeship from Jupiter.He’s a witness so he’ll definetely look at Mog with his knack and see what she did.

I have a theory that maybe with the use of wunder,Mog can somehow use it to hide such things from witnesses maybe?It’s a work in progress but

Or maybe she’s not even gonna try to hide it from him.Maybe she tells him immediately or he figures it out like that.I doubt it tho because i don’t feel like it’s gonna happen that early in the book but i guess we’ll see.

Just a quick fic (well maybe it is a tiny bit long)! Some Mordence, some nostalgia, some predictions for Silverborn, all good things.   

             “My life is so weird,” Morrigan whispered under her breath. 

             “Nah, it’s not weird at all.” answered Cadence, leaning on the doorway that led to Caddisfly Alley. “We’re just going to the Dreadmalis Dungeons to find a guy who took Praximus Luck from the Ghastly Market because Praximus is the last surviving member of the Silverborn, a secret society that your mom was in that has special powers. We also need to find Praximus Luck in a little less than twenty-four hours because that is all the time we have before some ‘ancient evil’ rises again in Nevermoor, because the Silverborn were created to stop it in the first place. Also, even if we find Praximus Luck, there’s no guarantee that he’s still alive, or knows how to help us defeat the ancient evil without his secret society buddies, who - as I mentioned before - are all dead except for him. Did I get everything?” 

             Morrigan sighed. “You only forgot about the fact that we only know about the guy who took Praximus because Fen captured him after seeing him try to abduct Dr. Bramble’s Magnificub, which she and the other Magnificats found only two weeks ago. That, and we are missing the Black Parade again to do this.” 

             Cadence grinned. “What’s the fun in that stinky old parade? Besides, isn’t it a tradition to miss it?” 

             “Only for me,” Morrigan groaned. 

             Cadence laughed. “Well let’s go, shall we? We don’t want to leave this ‘great evil’ hanging, do we?” Cadence held out her hand, and Morrigan grabbed it, letting Cadence pull her out the door. Morrigan took one last look at the shabby service entrance. The peeling wallpaper and threadbare carpet reminded her of the first time she came to the hotel. Morrigan nearly laughed out loud. Had she actually thought that Fen was going to eat her for breakfast? It seemed so strange that the moment happened more than three years ago. Morrigan felt like it had been a hundred years. It was hard to believe that all of her friends and family - Jupiter, Jack, Unit 919, the staff of the Deucalion - were mere strangers to her not so long ago. 

             Morrigan watched as the dim light reflected off of her golden Wunsoc pin. She remembered the first time she’d met Cadence, at the Wundrous Welcome. Cadence had been hanging out with Noelle, a cruel girl with a voice like an angel who absolutely hated Morrigan’s guts. In the Chase Trial, Morrigan had saved Cadence from being trampled, only to get her ticket to the Elders’ Dinner stolen out from under her. Cadence had even shoved her into a pond in the Fright Trial to see what would happen. Now, they were inseparable. Morrigan smiled. How time flew. 

             “Hello?” asked Cadence incredulously. “Morrigan, did you even hear what I just said?” 

             Morrigan dusted off her coat as if brushing away an invisible layer of dirt. “Yeah. Just… Do you remember the first time we met?” 

             “Yeah.” Cadence laughed. “I seem to recall something about Noelle getting hit with jello?” 

             Morrigan laughed. “Remember the other Trials though? I saved your life and you stole my ticket to the Elder’s Hall!” 

             “I also made sure you made it through to the next trial though, and like I said before, the dinner was a total bore.” 

             Morrigan had to agree on that one. “But you did push me into a pond,”  

             Cadence shrugged, but a smile tugged at her lips. “No one else went through the pond,” 

             “So I was a test dummy? Nice to know how much you care,” Morrigan teased. 

             “Well if I’d known you before, maybe I wouldn’t have done it,” Cadence blushed. 

             Now it was Morrigan’s turn to grin. “Well I hope that’s because you love me and not because I can burn you into a crisp on a whim!” 

             Cadence gasped dramatically. “You wouldn’t DARE!” 

             “Well maybe not, just don’t get on my bad side,” Morrigan winked. 

             “Maybe you shouldn’t get on my bad side, because I’ll make you do the chicken-dance!” They continued on for a while, trading insults and threats light-heartedly. Before long the girls were on the floor laughing. Before they knew it, the afternoon light of Nevermoor grew into a pale dusk that mirrored the sky of the Gobleian Library. A cool breeze floated in from the door to Caddisfly Alley, and they both shivered. 

             “Well, we better go,” Cadence declared, though her sides still heaved with laughter. “Don’t want an evil monster-thing unleashed on Nevermoor, now do we?” 

             “No, I guess-”

             “Wait!” called Fenestra, cutting off Morrigan as she barrelled down the service entrance. She could barely fit inside the narrow hallway, and she grimaced each time her side caught on one of the lanterns. She was panting heavily as she caught up with Morrigan and Cadence at the exit. “I want to help. You said you only have about twenty-four hours before some evil thingy is unleashed in Nevermoor?” 

             “Yeah,” Morrigan answered, confused. 

             “Well I can go faster than any brolly rail. If you climb on my back, we can do this thing in no time.” 

             “You’ll really let us ride on your back?” asked Cadence. “I thought you hated that!” 

             Fen frowned. “I do, but I don’t really want to watch Nevermoor be destroyed, so I’ll help.” 

             Fenestra shoved past Morrigan and Cadence to get out the door. Morrigan nearly choked as Fen’s thick fur pushed her against the walls. She could hear Cadence curse and spit across the hall. By the time Fen’s fluffy tail had gone out the door, both Morrigan and Cadence were covered in gray. 

             “Well?” asked Fen, turning back to watch as Morrigan desperately tried to wipe the thick layer of fur off her coat. “You guys comin’ or what?” 

             Morrigan followed Cadence as she walked out the door and into the small alley. With a grunt, Cadence pulled herself up onto Fen’s back, almost falling over when Fenestra shook her fluffy head impatiently. Morrigan hopped on behind Cadence, holding tight to Fen’s back. 

             Without warning, Fen shot off down the street, causing Morrigan to cling to her fur for dear life until Fen found a rhythm, running gracefully along the nearly abandoned road. Morrigan watched as the buildings moved past, the sunset casting a warm glow over Nevermoor. Every now and then, a pedestrian would scream or shout as Fenestra shot by, but it was mostly quiet except for the whisper of the wind. It was a peaceful night, despite the looming danger.

             Once Fen shot through the West gate and into Old Town, Morrigan got a faint sense of déjà vu. She remembered the Chase Trial, clinging to Fen as they raced against other candidates, planning on hitting a golden target in Courage Square. Morrigan glanced at Cadence, who looked surprisingly at ease as she rode on Fen. Back in the Chase Trial, Cadence had ridden a rhinoceros that had gone out of control, attacking anyone who came near and not even attempting to find a target. Cadence had fallen off and hurt her leg when a stampede of candidates was about to run her over. Just in time, Morrigan had convinced Fen to rescue Cadence, and they had ridden together to hit the final golden target, though only Cadence ended up covered in gold dust. 

             “Just like old times, eh?” asked Cadence, noticing Morrigan’s melancholy. 

             Morrigan laughed. “Just don’t steal my ticket to the Elder’s Dinner this time!” 

             “At the rate we’re going, we’ll both be in the Elder’s Hall by tomorrow, and not for dinner.” 

             “But aren’t you glad I saved you from getting trampled?” Morrigan teased. 

             Cadence snorted. “Aren’t you glad I saved you from getting deported?” 

             Morrigan smiled. “Very glad,” 

             Fen grunted. “Would you guys stop flirting up there?” Morrigan blushed and Cadence looked away as if the cobblestone road was suddenly very interesting. Morrigan laughed, thinking of how they hated each other when they had first met. Maybe this was a bit better than old times.

Can you bring it back? I want it back so we can use as reference. Something to compare with how Noelle comes back/how the Golder’s Night ticket comes back to haunt the characters! It was a pretty awesome conclusion in my opinion. Working together we will predict Silverborn!

another sad thing-

cadence might have the most damage given to her when they find out about the apprenticeship, i mean, mog was probably one of the people she trusted most. She helped her so much in the trials, mog was one of the first to remember her (if not the first but im saying that cuz family) and stuck by her side and believed her point of view all the time. Morrigan was probably one of cadence’s first real friends who didn’t forget her or want her for something, probably the one she trusts most as the books describe it. The slight smiles she gives morrigan and everything.

I know there is jupiter and hawthorne,,, but like cadence could build up her walls again and never let anyone in again.

Listen. I know that this probably isn't even on the top 10 questions of things we want answered in silverborn, but I need to know what the heck happened to Mildmay. Like the guy hasn't been mentioned at all since wundersmith. I want Squall to admit to killing him to Mog (causing her to regret her decisions) or for her to like see him again if she ever goes back to the republic (on the gossamer or in person) I just want to KNOWWW

firstly i just want to thank you for creating this account it really gives me so much happiness to see more nevermoor fans in this world <3

also i just saw an ask where it said that jupiter would think that morrigan is pulling away from him because of her agreement to be Squall’s apprentice etc but i was just wondering about the other possibilities and if these are plausible (i have a very overactive imagination oops)

so yeah we know that Jupiter can read things on the gossamer (don’t think i spelt this right sorry😅) do you think that

its possible that he would read it off her and then pretend not to know because he respects her privacy but is there for her

he reads it off her and then confronts her about it which then escalates into a huge fight

he doesn’t read it off her because he’s supportive of her

i feel like he might also just know? because we know that he can read her nightmares about failing the show trial and then either be supportive jupiter or worried jupiter

i know it was mentioned before that jupiter doesn’t really like invading in people’s thoughts but i also feel he’s overprotective of morrigan (okay maybe not overprotective but he does care about her and worry about her a lot) and might do it… what do you think?

also i’m scared of the other character’s reactions if they find out the news 😭

Ok so really, what I really need, is a guidebook on how witness powers work, because how much can Jupiter figure out? Can he read her thoughts precisely, or would he just see that she’s keeping a secret?

In terms of your ideas, I want them to have a big fight over it. I really, really do. But I think this fight would be better if Jupiter just knew she was hiding something? If he didn’t know what was going on, that would just make him more worried for her. He would shut down the apprenticeship straight away, and she wouldn’t accept that. I can totally see the possibility of mog running away from home in Silverborn, obviously with some grandiose idea of saving everything, but Jupiter would just be the concerned dad in all of this.

If he finds out about the apprenticeship, I really cannot see him supporting it. He doesn’t want mog to be in danger and he definitely doesn’t want her to be involved with Squall.
