Silly Game Time: What are 3 things that can reliably make you smile?
(CHALLENGE EDITION, IF YOU WANT IT: Use a random letter generator for all 3, and think of something that begins with those letters which makes you smile reliably.)
One specific thing that always makes me happy is my mutuals! So I thought it would be fun if I used a random letter generator and then tagged all my mutuals from those three letters. But this applies to ALL my mutuals!
You all are so amazing and kind and wonderful and I'm so thankful for all of you! You always make me smile and I appreciate that so much 🩷🩷🩷
The three letters that were randomly generated are S, H, and C! (Technically I got S twice, but we're going to ignore that lol)
@sunfloo-wers, @seaotter-17, @stqrmyskies, @shallow145, @silvrash-797, @sketchy-potato, @snowymountain, @somer-writes, @starwolfie, and @summaryscar (I did not realize I had so many mutuals with this letter lol)
@hero-of-the-wolf, @horsecrazy93, @huh-1260, and @hyruledwarriorr
@callmecreative, @cassieisinthebasementt, @crazylittlejester, and @craftforce
I love you all!!! Thank you so much always making me smile! I really appreciate that! You all are so sweet and wonderful 🫶🫶🫶

diagnosing the last hours characters with modern music tastes
Cordelia: I feel like she'd have two modes. The first would be soft, upbeat, folk and country but also piano-based stuff, anything major key and with big sound. Caroline Jones, Ruth B., Noah Kahan. I also thing she'd really like Shakira. That's her kind of day-to-day music, it's what she puts on in the car, around the house, when going for a jog, etc. But she also has a collection of women rap artists of the Megan and OSHUN variety which is what she puts on when she's doing hard workouts/training.
James: I agree that he'd be emo but I don't think he'd actually listen to a lot of "traditional canon" emo music. I think he'd find it too loud and intense in the wrong way. I think he'd prefer shoegaze, a la Radiohead, and bands like Five Three Eyes that are fast but fuzzed out. Generally anything with softer mastering where it sounds great at a lower volume.
Matthew: He'd love disco and neuvo-disco/retro-rock. Gloria Gaynor, Suzanne Somers, MonaLisa Twins, the Lemon Twigs. It's fun and silly and also empowering, besides which I think he'd like the fashion and the sparkle of it all. On his bad days, though, when the depression and/or ptsd and/or temptation to return to the addiction hits hard, what used to be his heavy drinking days, I think he'd fall back on an artist like P!NK or Florence + the Machine. Someone who can speak to the truth of the lowest lows of where he's been and remind him that he doesn't have to go back there, that there are other choices, things to live for. That, with time and effort, it does get better.
Thomas: He dug up the local college student indie rock station and he listens to it religiously. It's a habit he picked up in Madrid, he wanted to listen to Spanish music but didn't know where to look/how to search for it so he acquainted himself with radio and just flipped stations until he found something with a sound he liked. When asked to pick songs individually/curate his own music I think he'd end up falling back on his dad's taste in music: Eric Clapton, Bruce Cockburn, the Stones.
Alastair: I feel like Alastair would have unarguably the vastest taste in music of the lot of them, but also that it would generally run to music from well before his time. His mom has vinyls and cassette tapes from Iran before the Revolution and he's dubbed CDs and MP4's of them so he has his own copies and isn't stealing her. He enjoys listener-supported classical music radio, and also newer instrumental of the Haygood Hardy variety. He likes soft jazz and blues, Mahalia Jackson, Mama Thornton. He would ADORE Nina Simone. I think if I had to give a taste in music from after 1970, I'd say he also probably likes artists like Tracy Chapman and Mint Green that speak to a similar lived experience to his own.
Christopher: On one hand, I don't think he really cares that much about music. On the other hand, I think he would be the type to unapologetically listen to high school concert band music. He got hold of Robert W. Smith's storms series (Into the Storm, The Tempest, The Maelstrom), realized there's a crap ton of pieces in this genre that are Inspired By Science, and now every time Matthew comes down to the basement laboratory he ends up lodging a complaint about the sheer amount of French horn.
Grace: Living with Tatiana I don't think she was really allowed much if any access to music but I imagine she found ways around that anyhow. I think she's the other person who would really enjoy Florence + the Machine. I think most of her music would be older, melancholy women folk singers. Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Joni Mitchell, Claudia Schmidt, the McGarrigle Sisters. I think she'd find them soothing. They'd help her calm down when things get difficult, help her to find beauty in a world that's caused her mostly pain. I think her favorite artist would be Lenka. She's got this kind of upbeat, slightly silly vibe that would make Grace smile but I also think she'd find that songs like "Silhouette" and "Ivory Tower" could speak to her truth when she needs someone to, without getting too deep in and triggering her.
Lucie: She listens to Kpop and movie soundtracks. Also if it's appeared in one of those "badass women" edits over on youtube 100% she has it on her playlist or did at some point.
Jesse: Like Grace, he didn't really have access to music living with Tatiana. Also he was dead for like almost a decade so there's that. He probably mostly listens to whatever Lucie listens to, but I like to think he does experiments like picking a new genre/radio station to listen to every day, trying to figure out what he likes and doesn't like independently of his girlfriend.
Anna: idk. She strikes me as someone who'd like Siouxsie and the Banshees. Also Halsey and Hozier. Maybe bands like Linkin Park and Evanescence—she doesn't say it because she doesn't like being dissed for listening to "old cringe emo" but they got her through gender dysphoria when she was twelve so she knows there's some worth in them.
Charles: He really doesn't listen to music. He listens to NPR or Radio Canada or the British equivalent because it makes him feel up-to-date and liberal but he doesn't actually hear the content, it just goes in one ear and out the other.

Curious to know how The Odd Couple show measures up to the movie?
it's funny you ask this since i was just talking to my wife today about the movie vs. the show and who i prefer in which role... honestly, i think the show does hold its own with the movie. the movie is a pretty straight adaptation of the original play, and it's great/the play is great/etc. but the show is a really fun expansion of that, and it's a silly 70s sitcom, yeah, but the chemistry between tony randall and jack klugman anchors it so much that it's what keeps bringing you back... and the supporting characters are fun too! penny marshall as oscar's secretary and brett somers as his ex-wife are fantastic, and there's so many more on top of that. honestly........ i like both but i've watched the show way more than i've seen the film, and i think it's because the show really leans into the relationship between felix and oscar. like, they really flirted with that homoeroticism and that's more fun to me personally.

i would Like to wring some kind of thoughts about brian out of the somer's rock scene but it's built on so many politically absurd unexamined premises that anything potentially interesting is both fully incidental and sort of silly to try breaking down without deconstructing and then reconstructing all of those underlying premises in the first place, at which point you're in Making Shit Up land, which i am not the person to do. you know?

Will you tell me about an LU character you love and why you love them? Please please please ramble on and on! It's my favorite! I get so many fun ideas when people gush about their favorites.
I (think) I've said this before, but I am not the most analytical/observ person ever so most of what I say is probably kinda shallow :') BUT THIS IS MY RAMBLE SO OH WELL
Okay so recently, I've been on a Warriors kick. I just super love how like, everyone portrays him! Most see him as big brother shaped, which I super love. His background is just so vastly different than every other Link, which serves as a very cool contrast imo
The way @somer-writes makes Twi and Wars idiodic brothers is like, my favorite ever. I love love love LOVE how he writes Wars and Twi it's so insane the comedy that unfolds when they're just messing around xD
Warriors has this air, this *vibe* which I'm just super drawn too, I think it's just how my personality vs his works (you could theoretically draw *some* parallels with Sokka from ATLA, at least the way they each hold themselves I'd say. Also big bro stuff) (ALSO how both of them are portrayed as 'smart', which is a trait I typically relate too in characters)
When I like a character though, it's more based on the different types of relationships everyone writes them as though, I'd say. Wars and Time and Wind have this super intriguing bond that I think is cool to see how everyone interprets it! For the most part people write them as they're all aware of the War of Ages and whatnot, which lead to some nice fluff and/or angst. But when there's some time paradoxes, it makes it every so more tragic and it's really interesting to see how that can get written. I recall a fic (I FORGOT THE TITLE AND THE AUTHOR NOO) where Wars was teaching Wind medic stuff, but it was like a year before Wind meets Wars in the war. So Wars is all "sob this is why Wind is such a good medic? *Bc I taught him?*" THIS IS SO COOL AND INTERESTING
Also when there's War of Ages fics that have Time/Mask being a stupid child (/aff) they're just super hilarious. There's a series out there that has the Fierce Deity (sorry forgot the author again xD) act as Wars parent figure/older brother figure and it's just really funny to me bc ofc Wars would be a stupid overworking idiot. Loser smh
Four is also another one of the sillies that live in my brain, and I kinda wish there were more fics on how they interact. Though, if I'm being real idk how they really would cause they don't really have the same synergy as any other Links. I just like my favorites to interact, but I super understand how they wouldn't ^^
Small side bit on serious Wars (the biggest example is "Call Them Brothers" by wutheringmights which I'm almost 100% certain you've read that already cause it's soooo long and it's SO GOOD AHH) and ugh I wish I could pay attention more to get every complexity that this Wars has but the brain kinda hates me. I think it makes a lot of sense for Wars to have a grittier characterization, war does that to people. The entire fic is so visceral to me, I just vividly remember reading the flashback section about the long winter, and I don't even know how to really describe it xD
Wars has such a broad range of emotion, if one were to put him under and microscope and study him there would be SO MUCH.
HAVE I TALKED ABOUT THE AESTHETIC
HES THE FUCKING PRETTY BOY OF THE GROUP AND THAT'S SO VALUBLE TO ME FOR NO REAL REASON
Ik Wild is seen as the one with like, outfits and Legend has his jewlery, BUT WARS HAS HIS FUCKING SCARF. THERES SO MANY POSTS ABOUT WARS AND HIS EMOTIONAL SUPPORT SCARF AND I AM SO FUCKING FOR IT YOU HAVE NO IDEA
THE SHADE OF BLUE IS AWESOME, ITS SO COOL, ITS SO COOL HES SO COOL RAHHHH
*oops tehe I rambled like a lot* ty for this opportunity :D I'm super glad I decided to type this on my laptop and not my phone xD

Fun fact: in my script of episode 2, at one point I will be talking about a massive amount of stupid, petty drama coming from a group that includes Sir Cox, Mr. Somers-Cocks, Colonel Jacks, who are in a committee together under the leadership of Sir Goodenough. I swear to fucking god, these were all real people, I'm not joking, those are their actual last names.
Britain is a strange, silly place.

ID. Screenshot of a Tweet by Erin Somers @SomersErin: Thinking about how my sister's college friend was nicknamed "Burgers" cause one time he talked about grilling burgers too enthusiastically. You have to be careful. End ID.
The following IDs are of text from the linked page. Callsigns are bolded with explanations indented below them.
ID. Leftie (added: 4 Nov 2023): Saluted an Officer with my left hand on my first day. End ID.
ID. Sweet Pea (added: 5 Jan 2022): At Pensacola I held the door open for a civilian that was leaving the classroom. She responded with "Thanks Sweet Pea" in front of the whole class. End ID.
ID. Fifi (added: 15 Nov 2023): July 1990 - Sitting in weaponeering class, which was part of learning to fly the A-6 Intruder.
One of my classmates turned to me and said "I heard you have a poodle", in the same tone you would use if you caught someone in the middle of some deviant act.
I replied "so what?".
He (a marine) was outraged. "It must be your wife's dog, right?" Not being smart enough to see the dignified exit, I vigorously defended our little dog. Big mistake. He turned to the rest of the class and announced "Patrick has a fucking little Fifi poodle, and likes him!"
I'm now almost 60 years old, and my close Navy friends still call me Fifi. End ID.
ID. Salad: First name Cesar. End ID.
ID. Carrot: Red head pilot... and for some reason, was obsessed with carrots, and had a specific way of eating them. End ID.
ID. GABBE: Got A$$ Beat By Enlisted. Officer who had one too many at the enlisted club and decided to butt in on someone elses date. Pronounced Gabby. End ID.
ID. Puss 'n' Boots: He showed up for a physical fitness test wearing combat boots because he forgot to grab tennis shoes that day. Despite the clunky boots, he scored better than all of us. But he still earned a silly call sign for it. End ID.

Dancing With the Stars celebrated Disney's 100th anniversary with a night dedicated to the music from the company's first century. We opened with a performance of "Bare Necessities" that accompanied the pros all riding in Hyundai IONIQ 5 SUVs which come with a Disney100 edition. We even got a glimpse of Val and Jenna's son Roman and he is adorable. Of course Mickey and Minnie dropped by to help our stars celebrate and the audience was even given special light up Mickey ears to wear in the ballroom as well.
On a somber note, the show paid tribute to former contestant Suzanne Somers who died over the weekend. They showed a picture of her before the show and Alfonso gave a little speech toward the end that was accompanied by a picture of her and partner Tony. It was a sweet moment.
Alfonso also had another sweet moment at the very end of the show when he wished former partner Witney Carson a happy birthday.
So who had a happy ending and who had their Disney Dreams crushed? Let's check it out!
Adrian and Britt: I'm not very surprised that Adrian got eliminated this week. His Viennese waltz to Dumbo's "Baby Mine" was nice but it didn't really standout. I always make it a point to really watch every dance and not let myself get distracted but even when this one ended, I knew I wasn't going to remember it. And I didn't. The most memorable thing was that he was accompanied by pianist Chloe Flowers on a special edition piano made by Steinway to commemorate Disney's 100th anniversary. So that didn't bode well for him and his elimination proved it.
Xochitl and Val: Xochitl landed at the top of leaderboard by herself this week with her paso doble to "Un Poco Loco" from the movie Coco. It was an unusual choice for a paso doble, which was acknowledged by the judges. The song is faster than the traditional paso and is more of a silly song while the paso is a rather serious dance. But Xochitl handled it like a pro and showed why she is a serious contender for the Len Goodman mirrorball trophy. I think this will be a routine that goes down in DWTS history.
Ariana and Pasha: Fun fact - Ariana used to work at Disney World after graduating college. It sounds like she may have been a princess based on Julianne's comments during Ariana's skybox interview. I can see it. Anyway, Ariana channeled Elsa for a contemporary routine to "Into the Unknown" from Frozen 2. And while it was a beautiful routine, it felt a little too safe for me. I wish Pasha had given Ariana some more complex moves and really let her act out some of the angst of this song, stuck between wanting nothing to change but knowing that there is more out there. Hopefully we get to see Ariana do another contemporary so she can really wow us.
Charity and Artem: Charity closed out the show with a waltz to "Part of Your World," paying tribute to this summer's remake of The Little Mermaid. She talked about how it felt to see a Disney princess who looked like herself and how she hopes to inspire girls who look like her too. And she continues to be technically proficient but she's still not topping the leaderboard. I still think her lack of emotional connection to the songs is what is holding her back. "Part of Your World" is an "I Want" song but Charity danced it with the biggest smile on her face the entire time. I think if she had played it more wistfully, it would've really elevated her routine and she could've placed higher.
Jason and Daniella: I loved Jason's foxtrot to "A Whole New World" from Aladdin. I'm not sure why it didn't get scored higher. I guess the judges might now expect more from him. Or I wonder if they saw something through the fog on the dance floor that we couldn't at home. But I think if he continues the way he's going, he's a lock for the finals - barring any surprise eliminations.
Lele and Brandon: I'm not sure why I didn't like this routine as much as I've liked Lele's other routines. She seemed to handle the rumba to "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King well enough. But it lacked something. Maybe it was a spark? Maybe Brandon played it too sweet that it lost the sultry? I don't know but it was something.
Harry and Rylee: There was some buzz that Rylee had stolen big sister Lindsay's choreography because Lindsay danced the quickstep to Toy Story's "You Got a Friend in Me" with partner Sean Spicer. So I watched Harry's and Sean's routines back-to-back and while there is one sequence that looks lifted from Lindsay's routine, they are still different enough to consider it an homage than outright copying. Though maybe the producers should've given them a different song and/or dance style. Either way, Harry did handle the quickstep well enough and I would say he was better than Sean - Rylee added some more complicated moves that he pulled off well. Harry may end up being this season's dark horse - we're just going to have to see.
Mira and Gleb: Mira danced a waltz to "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" from Cinderella and it was gorgeous. She finally let herself be lost in the dance and the music, which I think really helped her. Again, like most creatives, she is likely her own worst enemy. Once she stops standing in her own way, she'll really start to soar.
Mauricio and Emma: Mauricio opened Disney night with a paso doble to the "Sorcerer's Apprentice" sequence from Fantasia. With Emma dressed as a broom, they danced across the floor with ease. The paso doble isn't an easy dance but he did well with it. Was it at the same level as Xochitl's? Of course not. But it held a charm all its own. And it's clear that Mauricio has fan support so I think he'll have a few more chances to continue to improve.
Alyson and Sasha: Alyson danced a jazz routine to "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast, though she was honoring the Broadway version and the start of Disney on Broadway. It was a nice routine but I feel it could've popped more. The judges gave her props for dancing with her hair done up to mimic Lumiere's top candle but I wonder if her performance would've been better if she didn't have to worry about it.
Barry and Peta: Barry talked about working with Bob Freakin' Fosse in the Broadway production of Pippin, so Peta hoped it would give him a leg up in their jazz routine to "He's a Tramp" from Lady and the Tramp. And it seemed to be going well until a trick went wrong. At first, I couldn't tell who messed up - Barry or Peta - in their lift but it seems it was Barry. That through them off but he seemed to catch up, though a little too late. But he's still fun to watch and hopefully the audience keeps him around a little longer despite sending him to the bottom three this time.
So that was Disney Night! Break out the tissues because the next show is Most Memorable Year night, which always promises to be a tearjerker. The show will also have a special tribute to Len Goodman as the current pros will be joined by past pros to perform a Viennese waltz to "Moon River" in his honor. For a moment, I worried that by "past pross" they just meant Julianne and Derek but no, they mean several past pros! Kym, Tony, Anna, Edyta, Karina, Maks, Louis and Mark will be joining in this tribute. So it will be nice to see them again and it see their tribute to Len.
See you all then!

clea in somers & field
Here is ‘Jamaica’ Clea Bella with actor feet, redressed in Somers & Field ‘Picadilly’. The SF shoes don’t quite fit Clea’s feet, but fortunately her own robin’s egg blue slides look good with this.
The doll is in very nice shape, stringing still solid, with vinyl in quite good condition and no discoloration of her hard plastic torso. Her little haircut is especially good, with really nice bangs (dolly bangs on dolls with rooted hair are normally.... awful).
I forgot how much I loved her silly little face. Glad she’s home.

•How many languages do you speak?
One, though I know a tiny bit of Spanish.
•What’s your favorite fantasy creature?
Dragons. There’s nothing more jaw-dropping and existentially breathtaking as a giant lizard that may or may not have magical powers. It’s a sentient natural disaster. Several natural disasters in one, perhaps, especially if it breathes fire.
•If you could be any DND class, what would you be and why?
Some day I’ll play D&D. Did once. I need to make more friends in my city.
•Song currently stuck in your head?
Polyphemus/Survive/Remember Them. Epoc loves up to the name. You know that LU/Epic crossover where Four is saying the line “Captain, we should run.” ? It has a permanent home in my brain.
•Dream job (can be anything, no matter how outlandish)
Fantasy author with a group of other author friends and we all get together like the Mary Shelly/Bram Stroker gang to challenge each other and have fun.
•What’s your main hobby?
Writing, though other times it’s singing, doodling, or dancing, but I don’t challenge myself as much for those as I do for writing.
•Do you collect anything? If so, what?
Books. Art supplies. Shiny or pretty odds and ends. Oh, and dolls! Mostly Barbie size, like GI Joe and Disney and whatever Goodwill has when I get in the rare mood to find more. And toy animals. My other dream job would be to record silly stories I’d play out with dolls on YouTube or something.
•Zodiac sign? (I don’t believe in them, I just think they’re neat)
Aquarius.
•MBTI?
It’s been a while… Introvert was one, but I’ve forgotten the rest.
No-obligation tags for @somer-writes, Cheeto was already tagged but I can’t wait to see yours! @baileyboo2016, @vicmillen, @ginjusttalkaboutnothing, @uniquevoidflowers, @majorproblems77 @sky-squido, @ordonianhero, unexpectedstormy already answered… goodness I want to tag so many more! If you see this, please join in!
