So I’ve been making my rwby x mortal kombat au and for some reason I only just remembered there’s already a rwby character with the last name Khan. So I just picture Sienna helping create/push a civil rights movement while her dumbass cousin Shao is simultaneously creating a nation to be the warlord of and she’s just like

Blake for the rewrite game
Yeah, my girl Blake!
So, to start things off, if I rewrote RWBY, I would get rid of the Faunus racism angle, Faunus would just exist, and I would instead focus more on classism. This would obviously change Blake quite a bit, but I would try to keep her V1-5 character the same despite this.
But backstory is where I think things would get really different. I never minded the "daughter of the chief" thing (though if I was rewriting, I would remake Menagerie into "Aride," one of the biggest "non-kingdom" places in Remnant.) But it would be an elected position that her mother had, but didn't have until Blake was about seven, and there would be no real expectation that Blake would grow up and take over. But she would grow up in the public eye in her country since she's basically the daughter of a president, and she'd be comparatively rich. I say 'comparatively' because of people like Weiss. Blake would grow up with security and people paid to garden and cook at her three story house, but it isn't like she'd be a billionaire. But, moving on from that, I'd make Ilia Blake's childhood friend with their parents being friends. Blake would travel around a lot with her father and Ilia would attend private school in Atlas, but they'd spend every summer together. And then I'd have Blake's father and Ilia's parents die in the same SDC accident, leaving Ilia an orphan and Blake grieving when they're both about eleven. Blake's mom starts sheltering her and gets really overprotective, and Ilia decides to run away from her new foster family and asks Blake to come with her, and Blake does. That's when Adam would enter the picture.
Here's the thing about Adam, he's basically two characters. Almost everything he does is some kind of contradiction of another thing he did. So if I were re-writing, I'd split Adam in two. There would be the teenage freedom fighter that would be nuanced and have ideological disagreements with Blake that slowly started getting worse but cares more about the cause than chasing after Blake that I would give the romantic history as well, and then give the 'older mentor' role and the 'abuser' role and the 'obsessed' and the 'doesn't actually care about the cause' stuff to... Hazel. All that is re-writing other characters, but it's crucial to Blake's backstory. Because I would have Blake and Ilia spend some time starving on the streets and then they'd meet Adam, who is a year older than them and rough but caring, and takes them to his 'benefactor' Hazel, who has Adam currently working for him in exchange for room and board. And Hazel is totally using the kids with a mask of caring for them, and convinces them that he's working to take down the SDC when really he's working for Salem. Blake spends about four years working with Hazel, but she starts doubting him and having a problem with the collateral and the unnecessary violence she sees, and Hazel starts escalating into being subtly and then not so subtly abusive towards them, and she sees how Adam and Ilia are growing more and more angry and violent, with Adam specifically starting to copy Hazel's abusive behavior. I'd then have Blake overhear Hazel talking to Watts or Cinder or something over the scroll, basically confirming that he's really a murderer who is just using them, and she runs away again, leaving behind Adam and Ilia. I'd have her regret it and try to go back to their base to talk to them, but it would be cleared away by then. She winds up joining an actual rights group run by Sienna Kahn who in my re-writes would be a former Hunter, and that inspires Blake to join the Hunter academy. Also, I would have a romantic angle between Blake and Adam, but I'd have them both move on from it.
But yeah, to me, having Blake accidentally work for a Salem agent and then leave behind her friends in the middle of it seems like a much better cause for Blake's whole "i have a past I'm not proud of and I've made a lot of mistakes' thing than 'I was a member of a civil rights group that wasn't one hundred percent peaceful, I now have to swear to my bigoted friend that I'm not part of it anymore.'
As for canon, I'd mostly keep it the same for a while only with some minor tweaks, Blake would still be the hard to get to, hesitant to make friends, passionate feisty action based girl with a strong moral code that keeps secrets from her friends and is guilt-ridden and self-deprecating. I'd just make her strict morals kind of akin to my own, with less 'never steal, reactive violence is wrong' stuff and more 'know exactly who you're stealing from to make sure it's morally sound,' and 'reform should be the goal, not revenge' kind of stuff, and I'd make her V4-V5 arc include her deciding to try to save Ilia and Adam, and it would turn into this whole thing where Adam takes a longer time and even then his and Blake's friendship just is never recovered. And also, I'd make it so that Blake is typically the most compassionate member of Team RWBY, always the first to understand where others are coming from when their team disagrees with people like Oz or Ironwood, and I'd have it so that she's a bit more focused on the personal and the human conflicts than on Salem and that kind of thing. Like yes, obviously Blake would be concerned about Salem, but like, she'd get to Atlas and be concerned about what Jacques Schnee is doing and how it affects people while the others are a bit more concerned with the secret Salem war.
Blake is a fave of mine, so I really want to do her justice!

Jade: I hear you have a unique set of skills

Jade: *giggles* surprise me
Sienna: Wow, you're really beautiful
Jade: Flattery might falter your focus
Sienna: Don't worry, I can simp and fight

Sienna: A gift from my childhood.
Jade: Can it stand against mine?
Sienna: Shao Kahn robbed us of our realm
Jade: Shall we deliver judgment?
Sienna: Indeed we shall
Jade: Are you familiar with your Edenian heritage?
Sienna: All I know is that it's in my blood
Jade: Then you have much to learn
Kitana
Sienna: Your mother missed you dearly.
Kitana: I cannot thank you enough for reuniting us.
Sienna: Catching up with her is all the thanks I need.
Sienna: You wish to see me, Princess?
Kitana: And test myself against the daughter of Gaia
Sienna: Should've wished for an easy win
Kitana: You seem to be close with Liu Kang
Sienna: Is that jealousy I hear, Princess?
Kitana: All I hear is you wailing in defeat
Kitana: We are both Edenian warrior princesses
Sienna: Guess that makes us the elite
Kitana: Let us see who is more elite
Kitana: You've brought Autumn to Edenia
Sienna: It is a wondrous season of change
Kitana: May it be an emblem of our realm's future

Liu Kang: Never change, Sienna
Sienna: 🎵Liu Liu, skip to my Liu🎵
Liu Kang: *laughs* a song just for me?
Sienna: All the legends have songs about them.
Liu Kang: Your skills are quite formidable
Sienna: Gotta blame you and Lao for that.
Liu Kang: An honorable accusation
Sienna: First you were a zombie, then a revenant?
Liu Kang: Now I am the God of Fire
Sienna: Damn, you just can't catch a break
Liu Kang: I'm glad Kitana has a friend like you
Sienna: I dunno, I'm a bit of a bad influence
Liu Kang: If by 'bad' you mean 'fun', then yes.
Kung Lao
Kung Lao: Lord Fujin is a lucky man
Sienna: To have such a skilled warrior under his tutelage?
Kung Lao: Yes, I'm quite sure he enjoys having you under him.
Sienna: The tournament approaches
Kung Lao: Let us refresh your skills
Sienna: Is this an excuse to brush up yours?
Kung Lao: You could become a master after a few years.
Sienna: With you and Liu teaching me, I could become one tomorrow.
Kung Lao: Great minds really do think alike
Sienna: So you defeated the deadly alliance?
Kung Lao: Why do you sound so surprised?
Sienna: I'm surprised that others still think you're trash
Kung Lao: You are the descendant of Gaia?
Sienna: I prefer 'daughter', but yeah pretty much.
Kung Lao: It seems we both have legacies of greatness.
Sonya Blade
Sonya: Seems like Johnny's been bugging you lately
Sienna: The question is does it bug you, general?
Sonya: Please, like I missed the headaches
Sienna: What's with the stone cold shoulder?
Sonya: You committed a massacre and kept quiet about it
Sienna: Oh well, forgive me for not boasting about my 'amazing' past
Sonya: We've located the black dragon's secret base.
Sienna: Permission to deliver some ass whoopings, General Blade?
Sonya: Thought you'd never ask
Sienna: You're quite the force to be reckoned with.
Sonya: Coming from the shaolin powerhouse herself, thanks.
Sienna: We're just dangerous damsels
Sonya: Hey so, I was wrong about before
Sienna: Maybe I'll forgive you after this match
Sonya: After this match, drinks on me.

RWBY Saints of Remnant Notes: Adam Taurus, Surrogate Brother, Liberator, and former slave worker
WARNING: This post contains is a radically reimagined Adam Taurus in a positive light in a heavily reimagined RWBY AU and has cliche and a ship that may turn you off due to Canon, if Canon Adam has given you a permanent bad taste in your mouth, I understand, this is an AU, just please do not come in with bad faith and ignore me instead.
Said AU is connected to The Emperor-Verse
Now following my altered Jack Schnee is Adam Taurus
Now given the whole grievances the RWDE tag as made about him, and looking back on him myself, I'd had figured there were two options for him, at least in my opinion
Either make him anti-villain or initial antagonist turned ally, which I have chosen for the latter. Either way, I threw out him being Blake's ex because I honestly thought it was kinda dumb and melodramatic.
Though FRWBY as I heard has done a good job tweaking that to make it work as well as Adam as a villain.
But I chose to go for something else, Adam being something of a surrogate older brother for Blake instead.
For this specific backstory, Adam is from Mistral, from a small village led by his father, a respectable Huntsman.
Now I'm trying to figure it out but with my Altered SDC and Jacques post, Arthur Gray(Watts) megacorporation GigaWatts Incorporated has outsorced work, and much like the SDC in Canon!RWBY Adam's family worked at one of their factories in the East under poor working conditions which claimed the life of his parents.
Adam much like his Canon counterpart, also worked pretty much as a slave, and his eye injury I chasing between either branding or a factory accident.
Now this draws on Fritz Lang's Metropolis which I feel like doesn't get enough love, and I will use this clip along with Metropolis when I get to post about the not-so-good doctor, his mega-corporation, and the current state of Atlas later.
youtube
But basically, Adam was emotionally drained at that point. A zombie of a young man who felt hopeless.
One day in his younger days The White Fang's Eastern Branch attacks the factories. And the one leading the charge was the current White Fang leader, a spider Faunus by the name of Rina Kumokage(first name a placeholder) and her second-in-command Sienna Kahn. Seeing them in action reinvigorated and inspired him and joined them instantly when the two offered a hand.
However, this wouldn't be the liberation that he thought it was, at least not entirely.
Rina's leadership was questionable over in the East while the other branches of the other three corners were busy, Rina seemed to be driven more by politics than the morals of common decency, and had abusive tendencies towards Adam and later on Blake whom she also took under her personal tutelage due to knowing her late father Kuroto(aka Ghira) who was a high ranking member of the White Fang.
But it wasn't all bad, for while Kumokage was a cruel teacher, Kahn on the other hand was the closest thing he had for a mother after losing his parents, and she herself was often downplayed by the current WF leader.
Soon Adam began to realize Rina saw the White Fang as a means for political power, a demagogue exploiting a legitimate cause for mercenary motives. But he wished for no outside help, for reasons I am trying to figure out, but partially the same reasons for Blake of being introverted, not to hurt those close to him.
Now for his allusion, there's always been the argument he was the beast and Blake was the Beauty
But after remembering an analysis post I can't remember where on Tumblr I figured
What if Blake and Adam were both the Beast? like a collective allusion? Which is based on my RWBY collective allusions theory but that's another post for another day.
Adam's individual allusion however is not the Bull Demon King, but Red Boy, with his late parents being The Bull Demon King(his Father) and Princess Iron Fan(his mother), both of their lessons sticking to him. So unlike his canon counterpart while his sanity may had been bent, it wasn't broken.
Now Sun in this AU is the 'Beauty' to Blake's 'Beast' and as for Adam, the ‘Beauty’ to his ‘Beast’ is and hear me out here...
Yang Xiao Long
now I know what you all are thinking...
But here's the idea
Adam as a good guy I would imagine being this grumpy kinda no-nonsense dude and something of a ham(he writes poems in his downtime) and I feel like that would compliment Yang's 'flirty party girl' personality and would play off Black Sun too
Two ships that are similar, yet different, and I just don't mean in a gender bent way.
But not only that, Yang’s role is also to mend the strained brother-sister relationship of Blake and Adam. Adam isn’t obsessed with Blake but was kinda like “Blake, what the hell?” When she left. He’s kinda pissed, but not a flat-out murderous lunatic.
And Yang being an older sibling herself can relate to Adam and talk it out with him, notably all the good things Blake has told Yang about him.
And then of course Yang does try to resort to some spicy flirting, but Adam being taught about earning the blessings of the parents and abstinence, doesn’t reciprocate the same way.
Spoiler alert, Adam is flustered by Yang’s midriff but also know it’s not good for practical purposes in her line of work. Yang notices and tries to tease him further, only for him to tickle her mercilessly to make his point, leading her to make a wardrobe upgrade for “V2”
And I’d be lying if my this was not somewhat influenced by my Catholic faith about modesty and no sex outside of marriage, but I’d think it be kinda cute and funny to ship Yang who’s flirtatious and likes to flaunt it with a very honorable and kinda traditional dude. Expect lots of disappointed pouts from Yang.
Now his altered personality I was inspired by 2 sources
Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender
But also Grimlock in Transformers: Fall of Cyberton which the game is also an influence for my reimagined Arthur Watts
For those not in the know-how, Fall of Cybertron due to it success had become the reboot basis for all G1-esque Transformers stories onward.
In it, Grimlock is the commander of the team and had been captured by Shockwave, who is a scientist, to be painfully experimented on which would turn them into Dinobots. Grimlock, driven by furious vengeance free's his comrades and seeks to destroy Shockwave.
Now Grimlock is still a good guy and believes defending the weak and migh-for-right, but he's bad tempered, stubborn, and headstrong really doesn't see eye-to-eye with Optimus Prime, seeing him as a weak leader and barely accepting him as leader due to the Matrix.
So it's kind of the same principle with Adam, with Watts being the 'Shockwave' to his 'Grimlock', though to be specific, Adam has a vendetta against the one running the factory he and his family worked at. Will get to him in the future.
So yeah, that's my Adam so far.

Ghira vs Adam
So there are posts going around again rightfully pointing out that Adam was not a good freedom fighter, which is true and he deserves a ton of shit for it
But I don’t really see people calling out ghira for also being a shitty freedom fighter? His passive attitude and belief in respectability politics makes him useless at BEST for his role
But Adam constantly gets shit on for it, but ghira gets a pass?
It doesn’t help that the show itself at least recognizes Adam was in the wrong, but ghira? They’re perfectly fine putting him in charge again,
And to be honest Blake hasn’t been much of a freedom fighter either, watts did more to take down the SDC then anybody else
Sienna Kahn was a good freedom fighter but she gets killed off and never acknowledged again
Ilia COULD have been a good freedom fighter but now she’s following ghira

Sienna Kahn
I'm going to get this hornet's nest out of the way:
Unlike most of the fandom, I dont see her as a wasted potential character, but she definitely feels like a character that was supposed to be added earlier in the series and definitely feels like proof that the White Fang story was going to be much different than it ended up being.
That said, I do feel like she's a character that has a lot of potential to use in writing for au's to help flesh out stories and characters.

The fact that people will look at extensive lists of why RWBY is racist and then be like "but did they write a good character to say 'racism is good?' No? Then it isn't racist. Also Sienna Kahn existed for five minutes before she was murdered so again, there's nothing racist or propaganda-ish about RWBY and there's your proof."

"I trust you" Kali x sienna
"I trust you"
Hope you enjoy!
Goodbyes were the hardest thing in the world to begin with, why did it have to be her this time though? Kali thought as she stood in the quiet field just beyond the White Fang compound. The Belladonna's names would be the final light of the former Fang, and the new organization which took its place would go in an assured different unknown direction--but Kali could not find it in herself to be bitter about it.
Instead, she stood there in the cold of the morning, the negotiations and the taking of materials had been done. Now it was all processional courtesy, and for her something more and far worse.
A crack in the forest brought the young Belladonna matriarch whirling around, landing her vision squarely on the sauntering form of Sienna Kahn.
"You know its not much of an official occasion if every party doesn't attend?" Sienna murmured, her hands lazily sitting behind her back as her ears flicked. "You'd be proud of Ghira, he actually knew how to sign his name after all the sputtering and arguing he's done."
Kali, however, continued to just stare as the woman approached. Her heart growing quicker in pace as she felt sweat pool in her palms.
"I mean, he did break a few pens, which I should invoice your people for." Sienna snarked, now only a few steps apart from the Belladonna. At which point she held her distance, the smirk which had been held on her had slowly dissipated. A cold roll of her eyes also brought with it a low sagging breath. "Come on, Kal. You know this is how it has to be now?" A moment of further silence met her. "The old ways just don't cut it anymore, we need to think bigger, and the fact that neither of you two could possibly even think to trust us with this is frankly-."
Kali was on Sienna in a blink, however, grabbing the tigress by her lapels and dragging their faces to match. A firework of a kiss dragging both of them years in the past and back again in mere moments; before Kali separated them.
Sienna's tongue was quashed as Kali's amber eyes looked into her. A frustrated and thin line making her expression and mouth now, even as she held onto Sienna's clothes.
"I trust you." Kali hissed, some of her feline venom making it into the wording, before she release Sienna and took a step aside the woman. Taking a few steps passed the woman, who hadn't turned to face her yet. Pausing for another moment, Kali barely glanced over her shoulder as she sighed. "I'll... Miss you, Kahn." Before trapsing off into the forested trail, leaving Sienna there, alone.

Lyon had his own vacation plans to just rest after his constant work schedule, but he heard a voice and ignored it before the additional comment rang out. He lifted his sunglasses to see Sienna Kahn calling him over. He'd be a fool to pass this up, with his mind made up, he walked over to see what the familiar woman wanted from him.
Open starter: Beachside Bliss
After everything that happened, Sienna Khan, leader of the White Fang seriously needed this. The tiger Faunus let out a loud happy sigh, relaxing in her beach chair with a cold drink in her hand. There was only one thing that could make this extended/permanent Managerie vacation better.
"Really could go for-oh~" That was when Sienna spotted you. She licked her lips, as she eyed you up and down. "You~ Come over here~"

I got my AU Jack Schnee and SDC and now I'm thinking of Jack and his fellow business partners, other millionaires(not billionaires) and their companies just being this little convoy of companies resisting Arthur Gray(Watts)'s megacorporation, among them being Flynt Coal's family too
And one of his buddies is a guff and big ol Polar Bear faunus, who I believe some here will consider 'thicc' and for some reason he sounds like Mike Ditka
maybe because the central region of Atlas in my AU is a fusion of North America and Central Europe
So America + Poland = Mike Ditka
Plus if anyone knows about Saturday Night Live in the 90s
“DA BEARS.”
(Rest in Peace Chris Farley)
Oh and he ends up with Sienna Kahn cuz she likes big burly thicc men and he becomes the surrogate dad Adam Taurus needs.
just a thought

The Problem With Pedestals
Looking across the RWBY series, I’ve noticed a trend with Oz’s decisions and viewpoints...
Ozpin: If you're not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?
Ozpin: A guardian is a symbol of comfort.
Oscar: You're bringing the hope that Atlas was meant to inspire. A city in the sky is held to a higher standard.
Ozpin doesn’t just create people and things who are to protect and aid Remnant, but also heroes that act as examples for the people to follow. Since he doesn’t truly believe it humanity’s inherent goodness, he sets up these Symbols (TM) to lead people down what he leads is a better path.
The problem is...as Pyrrha puts it...
Pyrrha: I'm constantly surrounded by love and praise, but when you're placed on a pedestal like that for so long, you become separated from the people that put you there in the first place. Everyone assumes I'm too good for them. That I'm on a level they simply can't attain. It's become impossible to form any sort of meaningful relationship with people.
And it gets worse from there. Ruby Rose, Ozpin’s “Simple Soul”, is strongly implied to be dialing back her feelings and the pressure of doing so is becoming a burden she can only barely handle. Coco Adel, another of Oz’s favorites, has a mean superiority streak that leads to her looking down on people and souring potential friendships. And Oz’s decision to raise Atlas effectively secured the elitism and mistreatment Atlas commits towards the people of Mantle. For all the alleged good Oz thinks his Symbol-making does, it causes a lot of problems that have huge ramifications for the world at large and individuals.
So why does Oz do this? Why would he think it’s a smart idea? Well...
Salem: This world is quite literally godless. These Humans have no one to guide them. Perhaps that's all they need.
Both Oz and Salem lived in the Era of the Two Brothers, when mankind had gods to define what was right and what wasn’t. It’s probably natural for him to think that this is what humans need. The fact that this sort of prestige and influence can corrupt people, or lead to bad’uns to achieve power solely because of their glamor, and lead them to self-destruction.
Sienna Kahn: You are a symbol for many in our organization, but that doesn't make you infallible.

I recall it being said two years have passed, In Universe, so if I’m following the timeline right…here’s me doing math and making estimates.
Assuming Cinder and her crew were within Beacon Academy’s age range, I’d say that Cinder was 19/20 at the time of Vol 1/2. With Mercury and Emerald at ages 17/18 around that time.
I’m also placing Winter at 20/22 at this point, since I’m assuming that she is a recent graduate of Atlas academy as of Vol 3.
Assuming Vol 4 doesn’t take place two long after Vol 3 - at most it’d occur in the during the later half of Vol 3’s school year. This would also put Cinder at 20/21, during this time period, and Winter at 22/23.
Vol 6 occurs after another time skip, but given the context I’m assuming another year has passed. Vol 7 occurs immediately after 6, but there’s another time skip mid volume - though I don’t see it being more than like a month. Vol 8 not only occurs immediately afterwards 7, but takes place over the span of two days, with Vol 9 beginning immediately after.
This would also place Winter at 23 at the time of Vol’s 6-9. I’m also placing Cinder at 22.
Then we got Robyn and the Happy Huntreses who couldn’t be that much older than Winter. Given my estimated age for Ironwood, my own conclusion is Robyn is 24 to 25 - May, Joanna and Fiona would be in the 22/25 range.
Now let’s talk Tai, Summer, Raven and Qrow; if we assume Tai and Raven conceived Yang shortly after graduating Beacon, this would place them at 38/39 (at the oldest) the time of Vol’s 6-9.
Then we bring Ironwood into the picture, those this really goes into headcanon territory. It’s not too much of a stretch that Ironwood was aquatinted with Team STQR in their Academy years, so he couldn’t be that much older than them. My guess he’s either at the same age, if not, just a few years older. So I’m placing him at 38/41 at the time of Vol 6-9.
With this in mind, I’m also placing Watt’s, Jacques and Willow Schnee, and Glynda at the 38/39 range.
And at the risk of beating a dead bull, I’m placing Adam Taurus at 25/26 at the time of his death, doing the math on Blake’s age at the time she joined him to the age she escaped escaped him.
I’m also estimating Sienna Kahn as being 27/28 at the time of her death, since she can’t be that much older than Adam; I’m also placing Ilia at 22/23 at the time of Vol 5 to 6. Ilia is apparently older than Blake, but shouldn’t be that much older.
Then you got Ozpin’s age - or at least that incantation at the time of Vol 3. Taking the assumed ages of Ironwood or STQR into account, I’m estimating Ozpin about a decade older than Ironwood. So I’m placing Ozpin’s incarnation at 46/49 at the time of Vol 3.
Can CRWBY give more confirmed ages please. “Well, they're on their early twenties”, “they're on their mid thirties” STOP! GIVE US A CONFIRMED AGE. THAT WAY PEOPLE CAN STOP THINKING CINDER AND WINTER ARE LIKE 35. JUST SAY “OH THEY'RE 24” OR SOMETHING DEAR GOD.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN ROBYN IS “LATE TWENTIES-MID THIRTIES” WHY CAN'T YOU JUST SAY “SHE'S 28” OR “SHE'S 33” AND THAT'S IT? WHY
Okay this is a joke but I really need more official ages lmao.

here's a challenge. any ship you like (except for ozpin cause it's too easy) but the story is strangers to lovers to strangers to lovers. best of luck no reincarnating characters!
Jaune ran through the palace garden, chasing his older sister Saphron as the two played tag. Their father was tasked with working security for the ruler, and the family was invited to attend the festival. His mother, pregnant with her sixth child, sat and held her snoozing youngest on her chest as the twins rolled a ball back and forth together.
At lunchtime, the family gathered in the dining hall where they met and ate with the royal family. The ruler was a massive, burly man, easily twice his father's size, and his wife was beautiful and wore golden jewelry on her wrists and around her neck. But the one who caught his eye was the princess.
She was about his age, with stunning golden eyes and a set of black cat ears atop her silky black hair. His face grew warm as he gazed at her.
"Careful, son." His father whispered. "You might spook the girl with your staring." Jaune immediately shifted his gaze to the floor, his face awash with the heat of shame. His father laughed loudly.
The families took their seats. The mothers sat next to each other, as the fathers sat on each end of the long table. Jaune was seated next to the princess. He tried his best to not look at her, his little heart drumming hard in his chest.
"Hello." The girl mumbled as the meal was served. She straightened herself, then spoke more clearly. "My name is Blake Belladonna. I am the daughter of Ghira Belladonna, the chieftain of Menagerie. What's your name?"
"Uh, Jaune." He answered. "Jaune Arc. My dad is working for your dad." She nodded, her hair bobbing with movement. Jaune felt his mouth dry seeing her hair dance.
The two remained silent until the main course was delivered to their plates, tuna fish sandwiches. Jaune hated fish. He picked at the disgusting meal when Blake spoke.
"Do you not like tuna?" She asked.
"I don't like fish." Jaune groaned.
"Can I have yours?"
"Sure." Jaune slid the sandwich to her plate. In return, she scooped more fruit to his ate. She hummed in delight at the sandwich, and Jaune knew then he was in love with the princess. Just like in his fairy tales.
--------------------------------------------------
The festival had been going for days now, and was reaching it's climax. Jaune had spent every morning eating breakfast with his sisters and his new friend, Blake. After, they would read until they grew bored by the afternoon. They would then play, often reenacting the scenes they read, until evening. At dusk, their families took then into town, where they played games, ate food, and talked with the islanders at their stalls.
Jaune was wearing a fancy, blue robe with tidal wave patterns, looking similar to a sailor from the old days he read about. On his head was white rope tied in a knot above his forehead, and on his feet he wore open-toe-and-body sandals. He sometimes had to kick sand or dirt out of his new, comfy shoes.
Blake wore a longer, black robe with a white sash around the waist. On her head, with holes cut for her ears, was an empty basket. She had been doing this sence she was able to walk, so she was used to this. As she said this, however, the basket fell onto Jaune's head. They shared a laugh.
At one stall, Jaune was shoved to the ground by an older boy. He had fiery red hair, piercing blue eyes, and two small horns atop his head. He wore a red robe with yellow flames along the bottom, and his rope and sandals were black.
Jaune brushed himself off as he stood up. "I'm sorry." He apologized. The other boy was older, stronger, and probably smarter than him, too."I shouldn't have gotten in your way."
"Yeah, you shouldn't." The older boy grabbed Jaune's collar. "This is a sacred festival. We don't need humans ruining it for the rest of us!"
"I'm sorry." Jaune mumbled as he looked down.
The boy raised his fist. "Not yet, you're not."
"Adam!" Blake snapped. "That's enough. Put him down."
Adam scoffed at her, then let go. He turned and walked away. "Don't ruin my festival, human." He disappeared into the crowd, and the two were, in a sense, left alone.
"Are you okay, Blake?" Jaune asked.
"I should be asking you!" Blake placed her hands on her hips. "Why didn't you fight back?"
"He was bigger than me." Jaune merkly answered. "I can't win against him."
"It's not about winning, Jaune." Blake lectured, dusting off Jaune's shoulders. "It's about being a hero. If you don't believe you can win, who will?"
"Did you think I could win?"
Blake didn't answer. She was quiet the rest of the evening until the main event that night. Chieftain Ghira stepped on stage, with Kali and Blake, and the festival became silent. He tapped the microphone before speaking.
"Good evening, everyone," he spoke calmly into the mic, "and once again, thank you to everyone who attended the Festival of Fishery. Our island may not be as large a Kingdom, but what we lack in agriculture, we are blessed greatly in the sea we are provided, and the brave sailors who are working, even tonight, for us, are to be thanked. It takes great courage to sacrifice something as precious as our time with our loved ones, as well as risking your life out at sea, where unpredictability isn't the only thing fishy out there." He was quiet as he waited for the laughter to die down.
Jaune let out a chuckle. He then noticed a shadow moving behind the stage. Curiosity getting the better of him, he slipped away from his mother and sisters, and made his way to the stage. Once there, he saw a hand sticking out from the curtain.
On closer look, it was Adam from before, judging by his hair and horns, and there was something dripping between his fingers. He then noticed there was something sharp poking out. Jaune followed where he was aiming, and knew Blake was in danger.
Jaune rushed on stage, past the chieftain, and pushed the princess to the stage floor. Chieftan Ghira moved towards Jaune, raising his hand to the rising anger of the crowd, while Kali kissed her daughter's head. Blake sniffled as her arm was scuffed, and her robe was dirtied.
There was an uproar quelling until Jaune stood to his feet, covered in a pink and brown slime. An eyeball fell from his hair, where a bone was sticking out. He looked to Blake, making sure she was okay. He was then lifted into the air by something grabbing his sides.
"This is the sacrifice I mean!" The chieftain roared with a laugh, before setting Jaune down and placing a hand on his shoulder. "This boy- No, this young man is a visitor from outside our island home, and yet he took a shot from an unknown assassin for my own daughter!" He then sniffed the air, and wiped his hand on his robe. "The good news is the assassin was using a chum-ball. The bad news is the boy now smells like low-tide."
"Hey, that's the best time to go clam-hunting!" Someone shouted from the crowd. "If you ask me, he's been blessed by the shoreline herself!"
The crowd laughed, and the chieftain shared in it. "You're right! So, in honor of his bravery, I dub this brave young man, Jaune Arc, Shield of Low-Tide!" The crowd cheered once more, and was escorted by his father back to his family, just in time for the fireworks to start.
The night slowed to it's end, and Jaune and his family walked home, occasionally stopping to watch the remaining fireworks fly into the night. The largest, and last display shot high into the night, outshing the stars with it's finale, exploding into a glittering ball of purple and yellow. They walked the rest of the way to the castle without turning around.
Jaune groaned as his mother rubbed his hair vigorously. She grimaced as she wrinkled her nose. She sighed, and patted the rest of his body dry. "I've done the best I can. You still smell like fish, so you'll have to sleep outside of our room." She unplugged the bathtub and walked to the door. "I'll discuss with Kali if she can spare another room for you. Until then, go ahead and get ready for bed."
"Yes, Mama." Jaune stepped up to the sink and brushed his teeth. There was a knock at the door as he spit. "One second!" He washed off his brush and hurried to the door. Blake was on the other side, smiling.
"Hi, Jaune." She greeted.
"Hi, Blake." Jaune replied. He looked at her bandaged arm. "Are you okay?"
"Mhm!" She nodded. "It hurt, but at least I don't smell like fish." Jaune groaned, marking Blake giggle. "It's okay, 'cause I like fish."
"Is there a guest room left?" Jaune asked. "Mama is asking your mom, too."
Blake shook her head. "All of our guest rooms are being used by your family." Jaune sighed at that. "But you can stay in my room."
"Really?" Jaune asked. "Even though I smell like fish?" Blake nodded, and he chuckled. "You're weird, Blake."
She quirked an eyebrow, her smile never breaking. "Good weird?"
He nodded. "Good weird."
--------------------------------------------------
"Please, just kill me." Jaune groaned as his body swayed with the roll of the ship. He belched into his mouth before swallowing the little bile he had built up. "Be my angel of mercy and just kill me."
"Pathetic." The captain sneered at the knight she captured. "To think all of Remnant fears the Knight of Atlas, and yet your capture was as easy as leaving port. Did you really think you could disguise yourself as a sailor when you're so easily seasick?"
"And airsick." He grunted out following with a belch. "And I'm not working for Atlas."
"Oh?" The captain perked her cat-like ears at this, making her earrings jingle. "Then why are you here, Dog?"
Jaune bristled at the name. Jaune's father was a hero among Faunus, known as the Wolf of Ansel. Being trained to be his successor, Jaune was ridiculed as the Dog of Vale, since his reputation was not only lackluster compared to his father, some doubted they were even related, and that Jaune assumed the name as a way to make himself look better, denying the two were even from the same town.
"I'm here," Jaune groaned out, "because you're attacking dust trade routes. Making things worse."
"For Atlas? I highly doubt Jacques Schnee ever cares what happens at sea if at least one ship makes it to port. Besides, I'm sure Atlas will survive, with or without a mercenary interfering."
"Not Atlas. Not Schnee." Jaune swallowd more spit and bile. "Mantle. Coal."
"Coal?" The captain blinked. "As in Coal and Son's Dust Emporium?"
"The owner died from a pirate raid. His son wants answers."
"I see." The captain snapped her fingers, and a sailor arrived. "Bring me saltines, Maiden's Touch, and some clean water. And tell the Quartermaster to find an island for us to drop anchor."
"Aye aye, Captain Kahn!" The sailor ran out to complete his task.
Captain Kahn crouched to eye-level with Jaune. "I hope you're as good with a blade as they say, Dog," she growled, "because I'm going to show you the full strength of Sienna Kahn, Queen of the White Fang Pirates."
--------------------------------------------------
In less than an hour, the ship moored to an island with more sand than stone. It was one cliff too much to be a sandbar, and far enough from any major islands to be missed if an enemy vessel or nosy law enforcement tried to interfere. Jaune and Sienna stepped onto the sand, where he crouched and heaved, grateful for the gift of standing on solid ground. She rolled her eyes as the exaggerated display.
"I thought you were a warrior, Dog." Sienna chided, resting an arm on her cutlass. "Or should I call you, 'Pup'?"
"My name is Jaune Arc." He corrected as he stood straight, towering over her by a head and a half. His pale skin almost blinded her.
"Is it?" Sienna replied. "I have met an Arc before, and from where I stand, you are nothing like him."
"I am nothing like my father." Jaune agreed. "But I don't need to compare myself to him to know I'm his son."
"Then draw your sword, Pup!" Sienna unsheathed her cutlass and took a combative, fencing stance with it. Her tanned skin from years of working in the sunshine glistened in the light. She was almost too beautiful to fight. But Jaune knew how dangerous the Tigress of Menagerie could be. "Face me, Warrior to Warrior!"
Jaune unsheathed Crocea Mors' blade from it's sheathe, his family's heirlooms, and held the sword with his left hand. With baited breath, the circled each other, making no movement to attack the other.
Jaune wasn't used to fighting with just his sword, but he didn't need to be stronger. He needed to be smarter. And smarter meant fighting cautiously. And fighting cautiously meant letting Sienna make the first move.
Slipping a foot back, then kicking sand forward, Sienna made the first move, thrusting through the sandscreen diversion. Finding no purchase, she cut downwards, cutting into the sand.
Jaune ducked the thrust, then rolled away, grabbing a fistful of sand before standing. He assumed a similar fencing pose with his fist behind his back.
"Trying to blind me?" Sienna asked, a knowing smile on her lips. She rushed towards him, clashing blade against blade, engaging him and never letting him break from reacting. "Only a fool engages in a battle of trickery with a pirate."
"And what kind of fool tries with the Queen of Pirates?" Jaune replied. He leapt backwards, swinging his fist forward, releasing the sand he pocketed as she closed the gap.
Hooking a leg behind Jaune's, she used her free hand to push him backwards. As he fell, he noticed her eyes were closed. When she opened them, he was on the ground, her sword to his throat. "A dead one."
Flicking his wrist, Jaune knocked her sword away and rolled to his feet. She smirked at him, chuckling as she brushed sand from her beautiful locks of black hair. His heart's thundering missed a beat at the sight of the beauty before him. With a gulp, he took a calming breath.
"Is this too much for you, Pup?" Sienna mocked. "Do you need your Atlas master's to take you for a walk?"
"I serve the people of Remnant." Jaune flared his nostrils. "Not any one Kingdom."
"And what of the people of Menagerie?" Sienna asked. "What of the overcrowded streets of the hungry, and the homeless, who take to pirating to survive? Don't they deserve justice?" She closed the gap again, going on the offensive and pressing hard into Jaune's defense. "Tell me, Pup, if you're not here for Atlas, then why come to Menagerie at all? I doubt some sob story would be enough to risk your life against a pirate." She pushed him away and stepped back. "I can see it in your eyes. You're not here for Coal and Son's at all. They went out of business ages ago, because the Schnee Dust Company took them out. So why are you here?"
Jaune shifted his sword to his right hand, wiping the sweat from his left hand. He ran along the shore, forcing Sienna to give chase. He made it to the other side of the cliff face, hiding them both from the sight of her crew. He turned and charged the Pirate Queen head on.
She grunted at his swing, the force almost pushing her into the sand. He was using his weak hand the entire time, and she didn't even notice. His fencing improved as well, as if he were holding back. A game of trickery, indeed.
Jaune batted her sword, then caught it in a spin and tossed her sword away. He closed the gap between them, his lips close to hers, and his sword and her throat even closer. Just one movement could change everything in their lives.
He stepped back, sheathing his sword and allowing her to recover hers. As she reached for it, time slowed around her.
"Princess Blake Belladonna." Sienna didn't move. "I heard she went missing. I... I'm hoping to find her."
"Oh?" Sienna picked up her sword, not facing him. "And what makes you think she's on board my ship?"
"I never said she was." Jaune answered, stepping closer. "But I did hear Sienna Kahn died twenty years ago, after the Festival of Fishery. How she died protecting the only child of Chieftain Belladonna, allowing her and her mother to escape. Chieftain Ghira Belladonna was never heard from again, and Chieftain Taurus took control of Menagerie. He waged an all-out war against Atlas, resulting in harsher penalties in the already suffering island." He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Blake, it's time to come home."
"Blessed by the Shorline, indeed." She turned and hugged her oldest friend, whom she known for only a week. After they left, the two wrote to each other until the coup. It was after this that they began their transformations.
Jaune took his training with his father more seriously, learning the art of mercenary. Combat was his weakest trait, but he more than made up for it in his tactical mindset. In his off time, he would read "The Shogun's Letter," one of Blake's favorite book series.
Blake had gone from Island Princess to Cabin Girl in a single night. She was no stranger to hard work, and her mother was there for her until she died years later from a sea-faring illness. She learned the way of the sword and skull and bones from her grimy benefactors. She got the idea to disguise herself as Sienna Kahn after re-re-rereading "Of Knights & Knaves," a story where a squire pretends to be his slain master to uncover a hidden plot against the king. She even took to writing stories herself of her sneaking into a squire's bedchamber and-
"Blake? Are you okay?" Jaune asked.
"Yeah, I am." She sniffed and stepped away. "Let's go back."
"One sec." Jaune held up a hand. "I need you to hit me."
Blake blinked. "What?"
"I brought us over here so you can keep up your disguise when you came back." Jaune explained. "But we need to make it look like you won. So hit me."
"Jaune, I'm not going to hit you." Blake placed her hands on her hips. "We've seen each other for the first time in years, so I'm not going to- Aie!" Blake yelped as she felt him roughly paw her breast. She growled, her face red with embarrassment.
"Eh heh." Jaune nervously chuckled. "Uh, oops?"
--------------------------------------------------
"A toast!" Blake raised her glass high for her crew to see. "To the White Fang Pirates, and their newest crewmate, Jaune Arc, The Hound-Dog of Menagerie!" The crew howled in response, some barking for good measure as their crewmate grew green in the gills from the fading medicine. "I hope you're ready, crew, because tomorrow, we return home to Menagerie!"
"To Sienna Kahn!" One of them cheered. "The greatest Pirate Queen for the last fifty years!"
"Huh?!" Jaune balked as he was about to take more Maiden's Touch with his drink. "Fifty?!"
"Yeah, don'tcha know?" One the crewmembers said. "Sienna Kahn was near forty when she took that Belladonna job. Cap'n don't look too bad fer a GILF, does she?"
Jaune threw up over the side. He spit for good measure. Some folks were just too gross for their own good, and sailors were no exception.
"Having fun?" Blake asked, leaning against the railing. "I'm glad you're alive. When I lost my father, I didn't know what to do. I thought about finding my way to your father, but I was afraid he would turn me away for getting into politics."
"Dad wouldn't have done that." Jaune replied.
"Maybe not, but I didn't want to risk my home on anything less than a sure chance."
"Adam Taurus is dead." Jaune pointed out. "He was killed by the Ace-Ops, the best of the best in Atlas. If we go against Atlas, we'll probably lose."
"Maybe." Blake said, then smiled at Jaune. "But for some reason, I have this weird feeling about you."
Jaune quirked an eyebrow, smirking at the beautiful woman next to him. "Good weird?"
"Good weird."
