Some flowers bloom in autumn!
Warm days aren’t totally done with Boston yet, but the cool air is beginning to creep in. Which means that Boots Season is officially here, and my new American Duchess Floras get to make their debut
(Pardon the rather dingy old mirror there)
I love all the period construction tricks that give the boots a distinctive shape regardless of the foot they cover, while still being extremely comfy. They will need some breaking in, but all leather shoes are thus
A hot London Fog is in order this morning, I think, instead of chilled. Happy almost-fall!

Brooks Ghost Max (Limited Edition) After 50KM
The last pair of Brooks I’ve laced up was the Ghost 14 which I was personally not impressed with. The single density DNA Loft midsole was very firm and the ride was not engaging at all. When Paragon Vest, the authorized distributor for Brooks in Malaysia, offered to send me a pair of Ghost Max, my curiosity was sufficiently piqued. I’m game for any “Max” shoes. Will the updated version of DNA…

my review of air force ones
Okay- so I FINALLY got air force ones ( my step mom said she'd get me some of I went to my 8th grade graduation) [I finna be a freshman ⁉️💀💀💀] and here's what I think:
Colour options: I went to the Nike store instead of going online bc I be broke nd they are a lot more expensive online plus shipping- and in store there was only full black and full white available for the air force ones. I ofc chose all white. Colour availability: 2/10 wish there were more in-store
Look: honestly they look really good. They can be dressy or casual. I like em. Look: 9/10. Like I said, yu can wear them with anything.
Comfort: Straight off the bat, it's a miss. They feel weird to walk in, and mind yu, I already broke them in. I naturally tend to lean towards the right when I walk, but the shoes made it worse. Comfort 3/10.
Crease: They crease really easily due to them being made of leather but idrc too much about creasing , but ik a lot of people do care which is why I included it. Crease : 2/10.
Overall: They are okay shoes. They're the kind yu'd hang on yr wall. I'll probably just put them on my wall with the rest of my Nikes if I don't wear them to high school. Overall: 6/10 they be mid lol

Anime-onlys being mad at character(s) because they've got limited info about said character(s) and the character(s) did something wrong to another character or simply not being in the same wavelength with the characters they like more onscreen :
Manga readers who have read the manga many times for years before the anime release, have had discussions and lots of analysis, have had more contents about the characters and now can read nuances behind the characters actions :
I'm gonna kill you 😠

The Ducktators is a fascinating little cartoon, though not a particularly enjoyable one. It’s very hard to watch nowadays but your review makes its strengths as animated propaganda very clear. As always, a very nice review. Also, sorry to bring him up, but I always thought the racist stereotype Japanese duck was supposed to be Hideki Tojo (Hi-duck-i Tojo?).
THANK YOU FOR THE KIND WORDS!!! that really means a lot! absolutely, it's not a short i revisit for obvious reasons, but i'm almost glad for that "fresh pair of eyes" point of view because it definitely allowed me to view its directorial strengths much more clearly. in terms of pure cinematography and directing alone, it really shows that Norm McCabe had a lot of potential to be a great director if he wasn't bogged down so much by shoehorning topical references (ie propaganda) into his cartoons! like, this is a crazy shot
it is an extremely fascinating watch to see how they play on the psyche and psychology of the audience. cartoons are manipulative! i know this from working in them! i don't mean that in a bad way, but objectively: cartoons manipulate emotions of the audience and inspire them to laugh, to cry, to be scared, to be triumphant, they manipulate where you're supposed to look or how you're supposed to ingest--or NOT ingest--the information. it's almost comparable to a magic trick. even the most inconsequential, silly, stupid, "nothing" cartoon you can imagine has some sort of subliminality in it dictating how you are interpreting the information on screen. i'm being hyperbolic with my wording and i swear i don't mean this in a Dale Gribble conspiracy theory way LOL. it's just a fact! and it's so fascinating to me! and propaganda cartoons are really at the zenith of seeing how these subliminalities and playing on the psychology of the audience works. obviously, not always (and really, seldom) for the better, but it's very neat to study and see how that is accomplished. it makes for a very fascinating deep dive
I HAD ASSUMED FOR THE LONGEST TIME IT WAS A TOJO CARICATURE TOO.. i've gotten some conflicting information. cartoon wise, i plucked the voice credits from Keith Scott's book, who bills him as a Hirohito caricature, Jerry Beck and Will Friedwald's book just labels him as "a Japanese duck"--i've been getting a bunch of conflicting research, and it evidently seems that historians themselves are in conflict as to the extent of Hirohito's role in the war. i assumed that for the purposes of the cartoon, the duck was Hirohito since it seems he was considered one of the leaders of the Axis Powers, which is of course what the short hinges on. that, and that he was Emperor, whereas Tojo just reported to him. the general consensus seems to be that Tojo took the majority of the blame (obviously, given that he was hanged)--the website of the National WWII Museum points out that Douglas McArthur and Harry Truman seemed hesitant to charge Hirohito with war crimes since they were scared of a retaliatory uprising, given that he was the Emperor, and so publicity instead fell on Tojo.
I TYPED ALL OF THIS OUT BUT I SEEM TO BE PROVING YOUR POINT LOL Tojo seemed to be much more active on the militant side and received more publicity, so i guess that technically would make him a candidate... but given that Hirohito was at the very tip top and considered the reigning Axis leader for Japan, my assumption was that it was him for the purposes served by the cartoon. it'd probably make more sense for it to be Tojo though if he was more directly involved on the military side... that, and it's clear there's a little bit of a divide in power between the Tojo/Hirohito duck and the Hitler and Mussolini duck, but i also assumed that was a byproduct of the clear resentment directed towards Japan, and was just them jumping at any chance they could to belittle and humiliate them. riding on the catharsis of making such a big figurehead seem small and weak and easy to pummel and all that. (it also doesn’t help that the extent of caricaturing is “uhhhhh Japanese people have squinted eyes and big teeth right?”, both Tojo and Hirohito wore glasses and so that’s really the only visual clue… but i guess the duck also has a military cap that probably would be most associated with Tojo)
any historians who are obviously much more equipped to answer this, i welcome any corrections! it's obviously been a bit since my last World History class and i am genuinely embarrassed i can't give a more concise answer :')
#anonymous#asks#also i just have to say shoutout to John Carey. again. what an insane talent#the Hirohito/Tojo duck is incredibly regrettable and thus not a scene i parade around showing Carey's animation abilities#but his animation on the 'Buckle My Shoe' bit may seriously be one of my favorite bits of animation he's done just in pure technicalities#the shoulder shaking and gradual leaning forward of the Mussolini duck's head and just how many different motions are happening so#seamlessly at the same time... it's ridiculous. it looks so good. and would look even better without a glaringly racist caricature in front#also gotta say i am extremely dreading the day i review Tokio Jokio#if you want a masterclass of just sheer and utter resentment and almost gleefully vitriolic racism..... woof

CHEEK IT OUT!
I am so happy that someone actually took the time of the day to make a long and detailed review of the game and what make it… beautiful!
youtube
Kbash somehow managed to put what make me love LGTS and PM into clearly and detailed words and even made me see new things that I didn’t see before.
LGTS and PM are so underrated to the point I was actually planning to make my own review video to just try and make ppl try or at least watch them game for themselves by how good it is but thankfully Kbash and some others did it perfectly.
The fandom are so small and I really want it to grow into something big and beautiful so if any of you have the time of day maybe go watch some videos or even try the game for yourself!

Hello! Here's a fan of your reviews again (they are really great)
Would you mind giving your opinion on Nye, please? I def need your insight on it!
Hi, Anon!
Thank you for your trust, I'm feeling a responsibility on my shoulders now... I'll try to do my best to deserve it, since you appreciate them.
It's not easy for me to write a 'review' about Nye tbh, because there's a lot to unpack and I am terribly slow in finding the right words for this kind of posts (proof is I'm replying only now).
Anyway.
First, I must tell you that my impression may be influenced by the lack of experience and culture in theatre and plays in general. Nevertheless, I think I'm not wrong if I dare to say that "Nye" may be considered a masterpiece. For the theme, the meanings, the perfect execution of all the cast, the writing, the visual impact of the lighting designs, the choreography, the tricks and the original technical solutions with the props on the stage, as well as the rollercoaster of emotions during the entire show. It's all amazing, all perfectly synchronized like the gears of a clock, a real wonder for the view.
The storytelling is neat and well built, the direction is fluid, meaningful flashbacks of the past alternated with the present ones, touching moments balanced with songs and dances, lighter jokes and deep thoughts. There's rhythm, there's a bit of drama and a bit of musical, sadness and happiness, cruelty and compassion; there's speed of execution but also time to breath, to reflect, not a single wasted moment. A perfect team job, a well oiled machine that runs full power for about 2 hours 30.
The actors are really all exceptional, professional, tireless, talented and admirable in their roles. I loved the precision of every movement, the perfect timing of their steps, the expressions, the attention on every little gesture, the care for the detail.
A mention for the performances of some of the supporter actors, excellent, well trained and at their best, who know how to stay on a stage and fully entertain the audience.
Sharon Small (Jennie), with her grit, her grace, her versatility, her patience (when she stays still in the background for minutes, wow), is perfect in portraying this special modern woman: strong, intelligent, nonconformist, but also romantic and soft.
Roger Evans (Archie), Nye's best friend, eternally loyal and protective, sometimes even jealous of Jennie: always on point, a reliable presence in every scene.
Tony Jayawardena (Churchill), with his impressive figure, as Nye's opponent and his doctor, crafty but funny at the same time, and... a very flexible dancer.
And then, obviously, him.
Last but not least: Michael Sheen.
Monumental. Powerful, in his presence on the stage. Inspired, with his long speeches. Ecstatic, during his vivid crazy dreams. Mesmerising. A natural born orator in a play which is his perfect environment. A driving force. He's not just playing a character. He's living an ambition, a mission, that represents the core of all the values, the qualities, the feelings and the things he loves more and in which he recognizes himself. He put his body and soul in this portrait, he cried and laughed, relentless, passionately, he bore the weight of an incredibly high emotional stress for months (all those rehearsals, every day, two times a day sometimes), showing an energy and an unimaginable stamina.
You can understand why he deeply felt this project: he fully believes in its message, and I sense there's also a lot of personal in it, emotions, situations that somehow belong to him. Nye, generous, crazy dreamers, fragile, stubborn, silly, irritating, strong, moving: he perfectly painted all these nuances, because they are also part of himself.
I could also add that some scenes reminded me others he already played in previous works (MoS, H.G. Wells, Dirty Filthy Love, The Passion), but maybe I'll keep these parallels for another post, since this is already too long. It's like there's almost a pattern in the choice of his characters, a little hint that he has a soft spot for some topics, definitely very important for him.
The same for other scenes that really impressed/touched me, but that would take too time to be discussed here.
It was an incredible show to put together, made with hard work, imagination, heart and dedication. To share a story and a message true for many people and different generations, in every eras. For those countries that have a NHS and for the ones that have not. To show how difficult but essential is to fight for the rights, against the social injustice but not only, to care about our families and the others. And affirming that making politics doesn't mean just balancing the books, but giving dignity to the people. This is how the politics becomes a real noble thing.
A huge effort, a great play, a deserved success. A necessary reminder.
(And now, after using too many adjectives, like Nye it's time to expand my vocabulary and find more synonyms.)

adidas Adizero Prime X - 100km Review
adidas Adizero Prime X – 100km Review
The Eve of the New Year saw Cheong, Calvin and I gathered in front of the Putra Mosque at 6 a.m., each at his own fitness level. Cheong has been training for some time, Calvin is presently prepping for a Marathon Major, and me still struggling to escape the current rut. I didn’t have any plans for the morning other than to get some running done. I do have a Marathon coming up in just over 8…

guys, my mom just watched boonboomger and her first reaction to taiya was “he doesn’t look like a rich boy. he looks like a delinquent” (チンピラ) and then asked if his shoes were fake on purpose or because of budget 😭.
she then proceeded to roast taiya’s clothing store choice (when buying out the entire fucking store for mira) because it apparently looked like cheap 1000 yen or less quality clothes 💀
good news is that she absolutely loves the hashirian trio and looks forward to them every episode.

i also think that marc’s single minded focus leads him to ignore people who are significantly less talented than him (no offense). it seems like there are some people who would LIKE to beef with marc, but he simply catalogues their crimes against him (or however he sees it) and uses that as motivation to very tidily beat them. and maybe vale was more ready to “stoop to their level” so to speak — although, like you said, MOST of his feuds were with quite talented riders
(follow up to this) all of them were quite talented riders! but again, what you're talking about can really be explained through competitive necessity. marc's career has quite a few seasons where he's well clear of the field and quite a few seasons where he's not competitive at all, whereas valentino has far more seasons where he's top three of the championship without being completely dominant. that's the thing right, marc's spats aren't with riders he's currently engaged with title fights in. and valentino wasn't doing all that much stooping either - he too has various minor spats of the marc variety... but they've been forgotten about because it just wasn't that serious. all of valentino's major feuds are with riders he got into title fights with
I'm not saying that marc isn't single minded or that he isn't arrogant, because obviously he's both of those things. and yes, he does tend to adopt quite an isolationist approach in that he mostly keeps the grid at a distance. and yes, sometimes riders criticise him and he mostly does not engage. but at the same time, all the spats you're thinking about here just aren't the kind of things that escalated into feuds for valentino either, so you're comparing apples and oranges really. the closest point of comparison we have is valentino's rivalries with biaggi/sete escalating and marc's with dovi not doing so... but like. marc isn't ignoring a string of provocations in that rivalry. there's just more compelling reasons you can point to for that not escalating, like the competitive stakes in the marc/dovi rivalry or indeed dovi's personality. you can also point to valentino being more proactive in the biaggi rivalry - but valentino wasn't stopping at that point. he didn't have some divine insight to know his talent levels were greater than biaggi several years before they began competing on-track. when he triggers that feud, he is for all intents and purposes the underdog in that dynamic
the closest you get to a marco bezzecchi-type situation for valentino is... I mean, honestly even melandri is pushing it because that guy was at least runner up to valentino and theoretically might have come to pose a competitive threat - but notably, that's actually a dynamic where you can say valentino was going by the marc playbook in brushing off questions about the conflict, kinda just ignoring it was happening while going about his business. valentino also wouldn't beef with an alex rins equivalent, not at the 2019!marc stage of his career, unless there were a compelling competitive justification... likewise, valentino isn't notably more proactive in roughing up dani and casey in 2006 than marc is with fabio in 2019 - they go about it a little differently, yes, but broadly it's on the same reasonably muted level of shenanigans. marc has more low level beef with various riders on the grid than valentino did, partly just because he's less well-liked in general, but he's not been put into situations where that was ever going to escalate into a full-blown feud. now, if you put jorge in these scenarios then, yes, I imagine that absolutely could get... unpleasant, and he's got more of an inclination to punch down anyway. but valentino? nope. remember, he generally had a reputation for being an affable rider and getting along with most of his competitors. obviously we focus more on the feuds now because they're so flashy and memorable, but that's a very very long career - and one that's reasonably light on any major beef with anyone who wasn't one of his main career rivals
anyway, look, again I'm not saying you're wrong necessarily in that marc is more inclined to withdraw than valentino is. and he DOES have some alien-based tunnel vision, hence dovi not getting any attention in his self-produced documentary. or that thing he's been doing in pressers this year where he starts reminiscing about fighting the aliens at any conceivable opening while a deeply unaffected pedro acosta sits next to him. like, I do agree with you about what marc's working process typically looks like, I just don't think it's really the reason why he's been slumming it on the feud count. valentino himself tended to brush off most instances of his competitors being critical towards him because he could afford to, and only got into feuds against rivals who were broadly speaking on his level. in valentino's feud with casey, valentino didn't have the option of dismissing casey. there was no stooping involved - because casey was not a less talented rider than valentino. casey's the extreme example, but it's true in general of valentino's rivals. yes, the working process might look different, but broadly speaking marc and valentino were exactly as likely to start feuds with riders they have never been in a title fight with - aka not at all. marc might be more inclined to cut himself off from the rest of the grid than valentino was, but unfortunately he's also had rather an easy task on his hands in that regard. he's not had anyone both willing to beef with him and capable of posing a significant enough competitive threat (when he himself has been competitive). shame, really
#put it this way. marc has finished in the top three in the championship seven times. for valentino that number is fifteen#again it'd be nice to stress test how conflict avoidant marc really is. i'm happy to review applications. acosta buddy how are we feeling#lads i do want to say i've been buying the pedro/marc feud stocks early. but not as a rosquez thing it's way more jorge/valentino#i just think it could be very funny and pedro clearly agrees with me#//#brr brr#alien tag#batsplat responds#admittedly i suppose valentino in marc's shoes might have like. switched to ktm in 2019#and engineered a situation where dovi WAS a massive competitive threat to get his juices flowing. and then started a feud#the biggest difference between marc and valentino is that valentino would start retching if he heard the words 'four year contract'
