Usually Shinichi calls Kaitou Kid just Kid right? But just once I want Shinichi to use "Kaitou" instead of "Kid" to his face during a heist or something
#dcmk#this being in a universe where Shinichi doesn't know his real name and is just trying out a new nickname#or is hinting at the fact that he does know his real name?#I just think him having (technically) the same name as his alter ego would make for some funny scenes#hakuba: Ha! see even the great detective of the east knows it's you kuroba!#hakuba: wait how do you know who kaito is?#Shinichi: Who? i was using the Kaitou from Kaitou Kid.#kaito: i have never seen that man before in my life *shoves shinchi merch behind him out of sight*

the thought of shinichi getting jealous when kaitou kid gets all teasing with another detective always has me wanting to write a fic but I never get the time to do so.
detectives are always chasing after kid, but no one ever gets close enough like shinichi does, but what if someone catches on? someone figures that little conan knows where the thief is and follows and ends up using conan as a way to get to kid.
shinichi would probably brush it off at first, but when it happens constantly, and he doesn't even get the chance to talk to kid in between the heist and kid's escape.
he's get annoyed, jealous, mad, and everything else that would probably come to mind because it's his thing to do, he's the one who's supposed to catch up to kaitou kid.
that detective could be hakuba, or maybe even hattori. if heiji ever plans to attend a heist- but its mostly hakuba, because he's the one who's trying to prove things with kid being kaito.
he's like any other detectives, planning to catch kid, and arrest him, and yeah maybe shinichi puts on that thought too, but shinichi is nothing like most detectives, as conan, he can't catch kid in the way that others try to, not that he wants to.
I don't think kid would notice how conan feels at first, he'd be too caught up with a heist and he'd just forget, especially if some other detective is trailing after him and has figured where he was before he planned to.
he'd call out for "tantei-kun" at first, then pauses because that isn't conan he's talking to, it's another detective and he just gets caught with that to the fact that he doesn't notice.
shinichi wouldn't say anything, maybe he'd think he was replaced, but he wouldn't confront anyone at all, and maybe he's feel emotions he didn't expect, and maybe that's when he realizes he has feelings for kid and it makes him want to cry and even distance himself.
because the kid heists was his escape from the horrors that come with murder scenes, and the kid heists were a way to take a break from all the black org stuff.
he feels replaced in a way, but he doesn't know how to describe it and maybe won't attend heists in general until he figures out his feelings.
ran would notice, little cheerful conan who'd get all excited at the mention of a heist note and rush to figure out the riddle, only for him to switch and lock himself up in his room and just fucking cry at the mention of a heist. that wasn't normal.
she'd try to take him to another heist to cheer him up one time, conan wouldn't have even figured out the riddle yet, not having enough time to put pieces together and he's just so mentally drained to do anything. he just goes to a rooftop near by, aiming to watch from afar, he's too tired to bicker around with kid.
at the site of the other detective following him he just snaps, he can't take it anymore, he feels like he's being used and just yells it out, doesn't even notice kid's presence before he's storming away, frustrated and mad and he can't stand anything, he can't go home and leave ran, and he just wants to rest.
kid is right after him, barely escaping from the other detective with a light bang and a dummy with his glider, rushing after conan because that's his tantei-kun crying about god knows what.
-
Yeah that's all that came to mind, I love angst guys ahaha no happy ending ever appears in my thoughts 👍👍👍

pushing daisies kaishin au #2
pushing daisies au where shinichi has been able to revive dead animals, plants, even people since he was a child.
kudou "i can literally talk to the dead" shinichi
shinichi's parents didn’t exactly encouraged him to use this power. especially not in public. they’ve seen him revive and re-kill dead plants and animals in the same breath, it doesn’t take a detective to figure out what could happen near a human corpse.
but a young shinichi is curious, a young shinichi admired his father, and a young shinichi wanted to prove himself a detective. but most of all, a young shinichi wanted to help.
so when he saw his father struggle in solving a particular case, a young shinichi figured that maybe asking straight from the source would help give them a hint.
the complete horror in yusaku's eyes shinichi saw that day made him promise himself to never do it again.
shinichi realizes later on that reviving someone just for a clue on the whos, hows, and whys of their death only to touch them again, to basically kill them again, is sick and twisted and the realization leaves him feeling raw and dirty.
he then decides that if he’s gonna find out the truth, if he’s gonna bring justice, it’s not by making the victims suffer a second death. he will unravel the mystery not by magic but by logic.
the curious case of kuroba kaito
hakuba immediately contacts shinichi.
“he was...a friend. if i have to gather all the best detectives to catch his murderer then so be it.”
hakuba goes on to explain.
it was a kid heist. shots were fired. snipers. kaitou kid was caught on camera falling, as if he’d been shot, but he appears a minute later flying away on his glider with not a speck of blood on his suit. all should be well however, a few buildings away in an alleyway, the body of kuroba kaito is found dead. gunshots through the heart and chest.
a simple explanation would’ve been that the glider was a fake activated by kid’s assistant as a last ditch effort to save his legacy and this kuroba kaito was kaitou kid himself. he would’ve said it out loud but by the look on hakuba’s face, he can tell that he already connected those dots long before shinichi even stepped foot in the morgue. that wasn’t what hakuba called him for.
“can i...take a look at the body alone?”
hakuba raises an eye at him but moves to leave without questioning. "alright then. i have to check on another friend anyway. she's been...distraught ever since she heard the news and..." hakuba's words trail away as his eyes unconsciously drifted towards kuroba kaito's covered body. shinichi patiently waits through the quiet pain that he sees on hakuba. the pinch in his brows, the tenseness of his body. he must've been a really good friend.
hakuba shakes his head and turns his attention back to shinichi. "sorry, i...its been a long day. i'll leave you here then. call me if you find anything."
left alone, shinichi carefully zips open the body bag covering kaitou kid's upper body. he looked eerily similar to himself and imagining his own body cold and dead in the morgue sent a shiver down his spine. shaking his head, he pulls a chair close and reads through the file hakuba brought him.
"no witnesses. no camera. not a trace nor lead to anything. just some reports on mysterious gunshots in previous heists that lead to nowhere." they were professionals, whoever did this, shinichi thought. it was not going to be an easy case.
he takes another peek at the body. so this was kaitou kid, huh. too young to be the same as the one before his hiatus. perhaps a successor? motive could be related to his predecessor. his mother hasn't said anything of interest. does she really not know or is she protecting him? he runs his hand through his hair. there's too little information to go on...unless...
temptation rears its head. the source of information is right there in front of him. one touch and it could open up new leads to the case. an immediate disgust twists deep into his gut. he promised himself to never use it on people. to never kill. his father's haunted eyes embedded in his mind. he shouldn't. he really shouldn't. but he remembers the anguished look on hakuba's face. if he was going to do it, this might be the only good time. any longer and his touch would not revive kid. and gone along with him would be vital information to catch his murderer.
shinichi heaves a deep sigh. he has never used his abilities on dead people since that one incident as a child but he couldn't shake off the look on hakuba's face. it was now or never. shinichi reaches for kid's hand.

#kaishin#detective conan#dcmk#dc prattles#shinichi: don't panic#kaito: *remembers what happened* WHAT THE FUCK#lol#also in this au the someone dies after a minute if he doesn't touch the dead person a second time again rule applies#shinichi has never discovered this fact growing up because he never really truly tried to explore this ability#perhaps he himself is freaked out by it and ever since the day he saw fear and the haunted look in yusaku's eyes#he never wanted to revisit it ever again#shinichi would probably connect the dots a little later but#the commotion of someone just dropping dead out of nowhere outside the morgue would be what he & kaito would use as a distraction to escape#shinichi was supposedly only going to ask a few questions and touch kaito again but ofc kaito would attempt to escape immediately#anyway something something pandora revives kaito back permanently so he and shinichi can kiss and make out the end#LMAOOOOO#thank you pandora for being a convenient deus ex machina mwah now kaishin can have plenty a sexy times :>#if you saw me accidentally posting this earlier no you didnt#also i never intended for this to be long or written like this#it was supposed to be a bulletpoint list of hcs but it got out of hand unfortunately LOL#finally out of the drafts after almost 2 years im so sorry this au lmao#there's one last pushing daisies kaishin au in the drafts yippee :D

Being someone who's still waiting for a Hattori Bear to be closer to the same level of affordable I got the others for, I keep seeing images of the bears as people are selling them and not just using the promo images, and. They are SO CUTE.
Ran!

Shinichi!

Kaitou Kid!

Hattori and Kazuha!

Like, they're all waiting for someone to choose them and to go to their new homes and to be loved teddie bears and I just. Gosh they're so CUUUUTE.
I have Conan, Kaito, Shinichi, and Ran coming my way. I want a Hattori. They've also done Shuichi, Gin, Haibara, and Amuro/Rei in the past, too.

If Shinichi met Kuroba Kaito what would he think of him? Would he know of him from his mother (ignoring the cousins thing)? From Hakuba? Does he figure out he's Kid?
I think it depends a lot on the context, if there's no intervention from anyone, and we say that these two just meet on the street, Shinichi might think that Kaito is suspicious.
It's already been said that Shinichi has some kind of radar on KID, so it's likely that he senses it, but can't quite place it at first.
On the other hand, I feel that Kaito's internal dialogue would be "Damn, damn, he's here… I need to get out of here!", but of course, Shinichi wouldn't let him go that easily. __________________
It would definitely be fun if it was for his mother! I can see Shinichi arriving home, and then he sees a guy his age having tea with his mother in the garden, Yukiko makes the introductions: "This is Kaito Kuroba, he's basically my brother disciple, and he's also the son of my master, Toichi Kuroba, say hello to your uncle, Shinichi!" And on the other hand, Shinichi would start putting two and two together, Toichi Kuroba is a magician who passed away, master in the art of disguise, and he has a son his age, then he would shout… "You're Kaitou KID!" Then Yukiko would scold him because she doesn't want him to bother her guest. Kaito would joke that "I have a cute nephew now". _________________
Personally, I'm not a fan of Hakuba constantly pointing at Kaito as KID, so I don't think Hakuba would drag Shinichi around to get a second opinion on his prime suspect. Hakuba doesn't need it, and Kaito is his prey! He told him so himself! "Don't let anyone else catch you."
However, I think he would just enjoy the chaos happening around him, intervening slightly to divert Kudo's attention and annoy Kaito.
Hakuba will never confirm Shinichi's suspicions about Kaito, but he won't deny the obvious either. I imagine the following conversation:
"You've known him longer than I have, is he KID?"
Hakuba takes a sip from his cup of tea, falls silent, and ponders his answer.
"Inspector Nakamori said he suspected him once, but eventually withdrew the accusation because KID disguised himself as Aoko, certainly, using Kaito's face just to annoy Inspector Nakamori isn't that far-fetched."
Shinichi thinks about it and he's right, KID has disguised himself as Ran before to annoy him… Even himself!
There's something about the whole situation that doesn't sit right with him, but he decides to let it go for now.
I feel like Shinichi comes back to Hakuba later, saying things like "The guy is very suspicious" and Hakuba just thinks "I know" but doesn't say it and just asks "Well, do you have any evidence?", Shinichi replies "Just circumstantial", and Hakuba would say "That's not much use."
As Shinichi leaves, Kaito comes up behind him, but before he can say anything, Hakuba steps in front of him and says, "KID is my target, I won't share it, but in a heist I won't be so lenient."
"You're as creepy a detective as ever, but anyway, I don't care what you were talking about with that guy, Aoko wanted to treat you to dinner." Kaito feels very relieved even though he doesn't show it.
Kaito has animosity towards Hakuba, but Hakuba doesn't have those kinds of thoughts for him, so, I think if Shinichi were to intrude too much on his territory (outside of a heist), Hakuba would start investigating him, I imagine:
"You don't seem to come around Ekoda a lot?"
"I'm investigating a suspect."
"Now that you mention it, I think you're a bit suspicious."
"What do you mean?"
"Let me explain this another way. Don't you think it's suspicious that you disappeared for a whole year for a case and then had sporadic appearances here and there? The media says you were very focused on solving it, but it's strange… I don't think a case this complex would give you enough free time."
"The police can tell you, there's a whole file, and of course, I sometimes came to visit my friends and family."
"That's not what Hattori told me."
"I don't know where you're going with all this."
"I'm not interested in your secrets, but if you're intruding on my territory, I hope you're prepared for me to enter yours."
"Is that a threat?"
"A promise."
"All for a thief?"
"He's not just a thief, he's my secret to uncover, my puzzle to put together and I'm not going to share it, I won't stop your investigation, but I won't let you catch him either, I'm the only one who can catch him." __________ It wasn't intentional, but the writing has so many HakuKai vibes, I love Hakuba and he's so cool, I can't help but think of him as a mastermind who secretly loves chaos. I'm so sorry if this is so out of character, I got carried away.

(spoilers for dcmk ahead)
detective conan seriously needs to stop wasting our time and end already. gosho just keeps introducing more and more characters that we either don't care about or are just there to be the love interest.
i love dcmk, i really do. but, and i can't believe i'm saying this, it's too long!! and, trust me, i'm no slouch when it comes to length. (aka, has rewatched one piece at least 10 times).
but it's dragging out! it's clear that gosho has realised he has fans who will stick with it regardless, because the overarching plot is interesting, but how are we supposed to stay invested if we rarely get to see the plot?
there are less episodes where the black organisation appears than there are tv original episodes. don't get me wrong, i love... some of them, but i love the plot-heavy episodes so much more.
it has, canonically, only been six months since shinichi was turned into a child. SIX MONTHS! AND DCMK HAS BEEN OUT FOR 28 YEARS!!
we don't need each character to have a romantic sub-plot. we don't need an in-depth backstory for each character.
we don't need to see each and every case they come across.
i'm all for slice of life - i love it, in fact. but not when there's such a strong plot behind it.
i feel like the desperate revival arc should have been the turning point, where it starts to be more head-strong in the plot, maybe throwing in a kaitou kid chapter/episode for a break. but it doesn't.
instead, we are 210 chapters into the Rum Arc with no sign of it stopping soon. the bourbon and akai arc was 276 chapters, and we all remember how long it took for that to end.
i'm at the point where i just pick and choose episodes to watch, (thank you detectiveconanwiki), because nobody cares about the will they? wont they? for anyone but shinran and maybe heizuha but that's been dragged out more than enough.
seriously, heiji didn't realise he had feelings for kazuha until 600 episodes in? and he called kazuha 'his' but pretends he didn't because it wasn't as amazing as shinichi's confession? i stopped caring the second momiji was introduced because, oh, can't have a love story without an obstacle! FUCK OFF
ran's character went from a strong female woman who was struggling with the fact that the love of her life is gone, to 'help us, shinichi!'. like- come ON! she grew up with shinichi and you're telling me she doesn't have any deductive prowess? what happened to her suspecting conan of being shinichi? BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE SHE'S FORGOTTEN ALL ABOUT IT
and it's so hard to come up with your own ending, because there's still so much that hasn't been answered.
what is the aptx 4869 being used for? (have my own theory, and wouldn't be surprised if it was right). what is the 'silver bullet' haibara's parents were working on? what's the black orginisation's goal? is karasuma renya still alive? what is vermouth's relation to him? why hasn't she aged?
AND SO ON AND SO FORTH
JUST GET ON WITH IT GOSHO
#dcmk#detective conan#spoilers#i love this show but it makes me want to pull a rikumichi and blow my brains out#the romantic subplots are too much now#it was cute at first then i just got sick of it#can yusaku and heizou just combine their braincells and figure this whole thing out please#or better yet#shinichi heiji sera and hakuba do it#maybe invite kid along for the ride#and can haibara just tell conan what he needs to know?? she knows he'll just continue to investigate without her so JUST SAY IT#yknow what fuck it#might just make my own detective conan without the hundred side characters#just focus on the main characters and the antagonist#dcmk critical i suppose

Kaishin lovers, DCMK people or Magic Kaito fellow, I have a question to ask.
Is there any YouTube videos that are a review of Magic Kaito by an experienced magician? Or a review of Detective Conan episode or cases by a detective? Cause I'm honestly curious if there are people who reviewed and critiqued the shows plus it's even better if there's a video of a cosplay Kaitou Kid who did magic! Cause I can't seem to find any that and the one's that I did, I already watched.
Now for the Kaishin lovers, you can stop reading at this point if you don't like Kaishin.
Can someone please recommend me some good fics? I have scoured ao3, not much on fanfiction.net (you can rec on fics on that too), on kaishin fics so many times that almost everything I'm interested in, I've read already.
I'm not partial to anything about the tropes but I do have some ideas that I like.
Other than a hot top kaito (this is embarrassing)
Pandora Kaito/Shinichi/OC, Dark Kaito (his whole character is practically begging for it, for all that supress emotions and fabricate it nonsense, don'tget me started on Toichi), Angst (when done good, it's done good), Black Org Takedowns (Better if Kaito's side gets takendown too), Death persona Shinichi (like he's a shinigami, angel of death, or anything that relates to death), reaction fics (its like cinema fics of Kid and Conan's life by other characters), Media coverage or news coverage fic (these tends to be a bit silly, can also includes reality shows), celebrity fic (idols, singers, actors, anything in the spotlight), wing fic (do I need to say more?), college fics (I know there are some but i still want recs), Undercover Shinichi or Kaito (can be on the job or part of FBI or the police) And any elaborate world building or lores (can be fantasy, sci-fi, superpowers or anything else, fics like these are rare, especially the good ones)
Now unto the ideas that I dont often see:
Kuroba Kaito doesn't know Conan is Shinichi Kudo (and vice versa), No one knows Conan is Shinichi Kudo (I want to see a fic like this and want to see how the author would figure it out, it's fine if there's compromises to certain characters that are too involved to Knowing Conan is Shinichi but the one thing I know close to it is Dominoes and it's only in the latter part of the fic), Journalist Shinichi (again, Dominoes, and since I'm someone who has experience being a journalist, I'm partial to this and any news or media coverage fic I find), Game fics (either they are players, streamers or anchors, I once found a Kaishin fic on lofter where they're streamers and sadly I can't find it now since lofter has new regulations for guests, just anything game related cause I remember that one otome game fic of shinichi), Shinich used as bait for Kid (I know there are some fics like these but I'm pretty sure I already read those and it's still lacking for meeee), Isekai fics (for an anime from Japan, there's a large lack of isekai fics here) and finally Highschool fics (I haven't seen any fics that feature Kaito and Shinichi as Highschoolers, they can do whatever they like with the plot but yeah, Highschool setting damnit)
And that's all I could think of, you can use this as prompts for a story, art or anything you like. If you do have any recommendations, please share it with me. I'd be eternally grateful since pretty much all the things I like in Kaishin ao3 isn't new for me anymore.

yknow, i love kaishin/shinkai but every time i read an angsty fic (majority) my heart drops so far i feel it in my feet
#mildrant
i keep thinking about how people portray kaito, when to me he’s one of the loneliest possible characters with even fewer people knowing his identity because it can put them in danger. not just that but it also puts HIM in danger, just because he’s wanted by police and forces everywhere he goes— without knowing the actual reasons why. realistically his life is always in danger, more so than shinichi’s. he has the organisation targeting him, police, even detective friends and on top of that having your best friend bash KID: idk but in his position i don’t know how much he’s been through… i sometimes think he’s far more vulnerable because he has to put up more walls and façades.
one reason why i support kaishin is because shinichi doesn’t unnecessarily have a reason to catch him- knowing him he’ll want to find out more and have a proper reason to go after him. he KNOWS kaitou kid isn’t a bad person. he doesn’t know his identity or want to pursue him recklessly, and i should think kaito appreciates his detective a lot. hakuba and aoko give me mixed feelings.. i like aokaito but… i just think relationships based around honesty would be better.
i love aoko, i really do.
kaito really deserves someone who loves and understands him at his best and at his worst. his support system is much smaller than shinichi’s. to top it off, kaito is really devoted to his dad’s cause that he had to pick up OUT OF NOWHERE. that amount of burden after losing his dad, a somewhat absent mom and then finding out about jii san having to take on the mantle… i can’t imagine how much pain is repressed on his part.
in short i really love kaito kuroba as a character and adore him strongly. fics that use his phobia to attack him or to cause him heavy fear saddens me a lot. i still reinstate my point that kaito is one of the loneliest characters i’ve seen and characters that have to play an ‘antagonistic’ role in order to protect people they love and avenge their family just hits really hard
along with magic kaito’s series unlikely to ever get an ending or closure…
Kaito Kuroba deserves so much better.
idk finding people from dcmk comm or kaishin/shinkai fans who have opinions about this
also kaishin/shinkai roleplayers please hmu i’m at a destructive point

Detective Conan/DCMK characters in a Classroom of the Elite setting would be so interesting to watch/read.
I've only just finished the CoTE anime (Seasons 1-3) so i haven't read the manga or the light novel but the Advanced Nurturing Highschool or AHNS for short is so, so shady. If it and the White Room existed in the DCMK universe, I have no doubt in my mind that they would have some connection to the Black Organization.
So just imagine an AU where Shinichi caught Vodka doing an arms deal in middle school but didn't get caught by Gin like in canon. Imagine him trying to investigate them but coming up with nothing until he, Ran, and Sonoko are on a train ride for the first day at AHNS where he runs into Gin and Vodka, just like he did in canon episode 5.
He learns their codenames there and saves the people on the train from being bombed to hell. Unfortunately, this ends up making him, Ran and Sonoko late for their very first day. They're thankfully excused because the incident was out of their hands before being placed into their respective classes.
You can have adult characters like Jodie and Amuro be teachers and business owners while also acting as undercover agents.
Important student characters at the school:
Hattori Heiji (he can be in the same class as Shinichi where they are both antagonistic at first but later become allies and friends)
Toyama Kazuha (they were made for each, I will never seperate them)
Kuroba Kaito (who also happens to be Kaitou KID and regularly sneaks off school campus for heists. Jii Konosuke cases places for him and he contacts the man using a secret phone he smuggled in. He tends to downplay his academic and physical skill to be somewhat average so he's in Class C or B)
Nakamori Aoko
Akako Koizumi (no magic in this AU but she's interested in spirituality and shit like tarot cards and all)
Hakuba Saguru (suspects of Kaito of being KId and regularaly requests time off from school to go to the heists)
Eisuke Hondou (but only for a little while near the end of 1st year as a rival for Shinichi and love interest for Ran before going back to America to pursue the future he wanted)
Sera Masumi (would be introduced in 2nd Year when Shinichi starts investigating Bourbon as a potential subject because she somehow found out he has connection to the maker of the pill that shrunk her mother)
Important characters outside of school
Agasa Hiroshi (supplies Shinichi with spy tech)
Haibara Ai AKA Miyano Shiho (shrunken and lives with Agasa just like in canon, specifically sought Agasa out because he was a connection to Shinichi, who was involved in her sister's case and was a detective at that. They contact each other through secret phone. She also happens to be one of the failed subjects of the white room)
Miyano Akemi (During school break, Shinichi went back to Beika where he was then approached by Masami Hiroto and the rest goes like canon with her dying in his arms)
Akai Shuichi (still don't know what I'm gonna do with him but he's important)
Rena Mizunashi AKA Hidemi Hondou
Side Characters in school
Nakamichi (Shinichi's soccer friend)
Eisuke Aizawa (Shinichi's soccer friend)
Kazumi Tsukamoto (a third year in Ran's karate club)
Tashiro (Ran's friend)
Hidaka (Ran's friend)
Anyways, I imagine Shinichi being in a different class from Ran and Sonoko and just thinking about ShinRan competeing but also saving each other's asses from time to time is beautiful.
Having Kaito and Shinichi's respective Black Organization be one and the same would make it more interesting as well.
Anyways, I think these characters are fun to play around with in this setting, mixing the dramatic school life in CoTE with the looming threat of the Black Organization as Shinichi delves deeper and deeper into the case.
Idk how this would be resolved but it would be so, so fun to read if written well. Shinichi's gonna be so paranoid by the end of this lol.

I don't have access to Movie 27, so this theory might already be debunked.
But I'm more convinced then ever that Kaitou Corbeau is a Chikage + Kudo Family Team-Up.
If the whisperings I'm hearing about the reveal are true, then the three of them have an invested interest in seeing Kaito retire as KID.
I mean, it wouldn't be the first time Yusaku and Yukiko pulled some really sketchy shit. Remember the "Conan Edogawa Kidnapping Case" from the early volumes? They straight up kidnapped their son to prove a point.

That said, I don't think that's their primary reason behind Kaitou Corbeau. I think they're searching for Toichi Kuroba. What better way to lure someone out than to wear their face and use their own techniques?

If Toichi's body was never recovered after the accident or went missing, then of course it would raise suspicions from his loved ones.
It would explain their rather frequent trips overseas, especially considering how shit in going down in Japan right now with their children.
But if Toichi is alive, why hasn't he shown himself? I have a few theories:
Option 1) Like Shinichi, he believes that his loved ones will be safer if both they and the assassins who targetted him believe he's dead.
Obviously, this backfired spectacularly with Kaitou Kid's return. I love Konosuke Jii, but I'm starting to believe he royally screwed up Toichi's plan with his desire for revenge.
While he did not want Jii to tell Kaito of his alter ego, Toichi clearly had plans on telling his son himself. He left a voice recording in the secret room, which probably detailed his motivations and a warning not to follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, that message deteriorated over the 8 years since his death.

It is possible that around this time, Chikage and the Kudo couple were tipped off on a Toichi sighting, thus forcing their focus elsewhere.
Option 2) He was seriously injured in the accident, and now believes his presence poses a danger to his loved ones. This one would be incredibly tragic, but sometimes a traumatic injury can cause a personality change like increased bouts of anger.
Even if these concerns were unfounded, I don't see Toichi as the kind of person who would take that risk with his family. Combined with concerns over the organization, it paints a bleak picture.
Option 3) Toichi is the series' main villain and a bad father. Just as his final message could've been a warning to Kaito against becoming KID, it could also be an invitation to inherit the role.
The adrenaline rush of a successful heist could have proved addicting, and Toichi could have used his assassation attempt to leave his shackles of responsibility behind. He could have graduated to an even more dangerous phantom thief persona.
Remember how there is 8 Night Baron books? One for each year since Toichi's supposedly death? And Yusaku has never revealed his identity, not even to his own son...
While I think this last scenario is the least likely, it would certainly be the most dramatic. It would force Kaito to rethink his whole career.

One of my favorite things to do is to rewrite the April 1st meeting of Kaito & Shinichi... Have the copy I won't be using in an upcoming fic.
He almost missed KID's arrival. The phantom thief lived up to his name. He landed on the roof without a sound, but there was this presence that Shinichi could just feel that made Shinichi turned around just in time to see KID alight on the roof. He cut an impressive figure, Shinichi had to admit that. The all white costume glowed in the moonlight. Silk, Shinichi believed, just going by how sharp the creases on KID's pants where and how his cape billowed in the wind. 75-100% silk, if Shinichi had to guess. The only splashed of color were his socks, his shirt, his tie, and the ribbon around his hat. Otherwise, the phantom thief looked like an ethereal ghost, walking among the living. "I can't say I was expecting company this early into the night," Kaitou KID said softly as he settled on the roof. His voice was pleasant to the ears. He didn't project harshly, like he was screaming, but his voice was heard anyways, even over the sound of the wind on the roof top. Ventriloquism, perhaps? "And who might you be?" "Kudou Shinichi, detective." Shinichi introduce himself, giving a little wave. "Just here to see if I was right." "Oh?" KID stepped down from where he landed, still light on his feet. The way he moved was similar to how a ballerina might move, always on the tip of his toes to move quieter. Leather soled shoes helped with that too, but they weren't going to protect KID's feet if he stepped on something long enough to penetrate the sole - not what Shinichi should be thinking about. "Have I satisfied your curiosity then?"

Random DC movie musings.

There are already quite a lot of thoughts, rants, complaints and appreciations floating on the internet regarding the DC movies so I thought let's just add one more :P
Movie 26 - Black iron submarine -
Well there has been in discussion for quite a lot of reasons but what I rarely saw was
RAN AND CONAN (SHINICHI) WERE SHARING THE ROOOMMMM!!!!
In all the DC movies, Its always Ran and Sonoko always sharing the room or she is with Kazuha or in a rare instance with the Haibara and Ayumi.
Well that also gave us an iconic combat scene and dammnnn I was definately happy and surprised to see them share a room especially when Sonoko was very much there in the resort with them.
From the Haibara angle, it was pitiful when she cried thinking of her sister when poor Naomi was breaking down for her father. But also kind of bittersweet when Ran hugs her in relief upon her rescue and she thinks of her elder sister again and this time in reassurance.
A small nugget but well presented I guess.
2. Movie 27 - A million dollar pentagram/signpost
Well I haven't really watched it yet but lets just say that enough people have had a mental breakdown because of this movie.
So I do not know how crazy does this fandom does research and all but-
a) Gosho Aaoyama had actually revealed a long time back that Toichi Kuroba is alive ~ around 2010-11, so the Japanese audience kinda already knew. It was mostly the international audience, who do not have much access to the old interviews or that which remain untranslated which were taken by surprise, perhaps.
b) Is Toichi hiding/faking his death a bad thing?
In my opinion - NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT. Because
He is a father of a very young boy. Toichi is literally investigating shady organisations using his alias of Kaitou Kid. His identity reveal with directly put his wife and son in danger. He is well aware of the dangers related to the job how else is he supposed to protect his son? No parent would want to be on a run with a young child that would be far more worse for a young Kaitou.
Even after faking his death, it's not like he can directly contact his wife because if his death is orchestrated then for sure his wife and child will be under some type of surveillance. He really needs to maintain secrecy.
His faith in Kaitous's brilliance is something to applaud for and his own genius. He left a perfect trap mechanism for an older and bit more mature Kaito to whom he can entrust the comeback of Kaitou kid and if anyone had been reading the magic kaitou manga then Toichi has already made an appearance in the manga as well (most likely) as Kaitou Corbeau, it was around the same time as the interview.
This 'Kaitou Corbeau' also claims that he is coming back after an 8 year hiatus because he was recovering from an illness.
Also is it really surprising that Toichi faked his death?
Akai has faked his death and is hiding it from his family except Shukichi. He is not very keen on letting his mom and sis know about his whereabouts.
Conan too is hiding and holding too many secrets from Ran.
Also in Japanese culture or rather east Asian countries the kids are extremely independent even from a young age.
Apparently, there was a Japanese reality TV show which had three-year-olds running errands for their parents!!! Freaking as young as three!!! It was greatly enjoyed by the audience and they found it very endearing as well.
But even apart from this. In Japanese, Chinese and Korean manga. manhua and manhwa respectively it is very common to show kids as young as 13-14 living by themselves. We feel it's wrong and neglectful but at least in the DCMK storyline, these teenagers are far well put together. Apart from solving murder mysteries, these kids are talented and well-disciplined even without direct parental supervision and the best part being, even after being distant they maintain a good parent-child relationship no matter how much we think otherwise.
Be it Yusaku and Yukiko being supportive.
Eri consistently spending time with Ran,
Heizo Hattori's Tough Love approach towards grooming his son.
Ginshiro Toyama looking out for his daughter
Sonoko, considering she is an heiress is also quite sensitive to the people around her.
Even Chikage who is shown to be travelling but is shown video calling Kaito frequently.
The bad parent may be Kogoro and Midoroko most likely but its not their fault.
Kogorou is most certainly supposed to be a comic relief so him being hopeless is just how its supposed to be.
Modoriko (Aoko's mom) has been nonchalantly introduced in the DCMK universe after 30+ years so can't blame her either per se.
Who knows we might end up seeing a similar pattern if Kazuha's mother ever gets introduced?
But DC women are far better written and empowered than many other series. They have their own stories and are pretty fleshed-out and individualistic personalities.
Also sorry for the Kaishin supporters. I have just have consolation hugs for you guys.
I was MAJORLY pissed when Miyano sisters were related to the Akai family. Apart from the reveal it just completely invalidated Amuro's character. He became the worst possible guy in the series. Again, not his fault but Gosho Aaoyama's poor writing. The problem is I am too deep into this series and even if the author keep contunuing it for the next 20 years I know for sure that I will still hopelessly spend my time reading it. ****Painful sobs**** For more feel free to read a different post of mine titled - My problem with the Akai family plot.
********
Let me know what you guys think!!!
Typed this out quite late at night so forgive me for grammatical errors

Summary:
BREAKING NEWS: Giant Burns Through Downtown Tokyo: Emergency Broadcast by Kudo Shinichi, April 10 MINATO WARD, Tokyo — A giant blazing figure is moving through the south-eastern warehouse district. Emergency management officials have declared a state of emergency and are ordering the immediate evacuation of all surrounding areas. I.S.H.A. emergency response team Irregulars are currently engaging the colossus. All civilians and non-emergency personnel, including non-licensed metahumans, are required to immediately vacate the district. Fumbling one-handed with his phone as the helicopter lurched to the side, investigative reporter Kudo Shinichi barely managed to hit 'post' as the blast of fire caught the rotors and sent them plummeting from the sky. The wonders of real-time journalism, he mused as they careened towards a fiery death. Superhero!AU
Lil note:
Superhero au, where Shinichi isn't one but most of his friends around him are (with Kaitou Kid as a villain)
Shinichi, a freelance journalist who writes articles with only the truth, is on a seemingly simple case involving a missing kid. But when he tries to dig deeper into it, he realises that it is way more than just a missing case. And somehow, it has to do with what his family and friends are actively hiding from Shinichi.
(You need to be warned that the plot is pretty (very) heavy and there are barely any breadcrumbs of kaishin in it)

I was looking at your mood-board(?) for when you woke up and thought Kaito angst, it's so well made you should be proud! I love the 'forgive them even if they are not sorry' part as it fits Kaito so well and the use of the definition of a scapegoat because that's what he is to most MK villains. I recognise Toichi and Chikage but can you tell me who the other four characters are?
Thank-you so much.
Yeah, I thought Kaito was a scapegoat after wondering what happened if his parents were villains.

As for the names, clockwise:
Miyadai Natsumi from Sunflowers of Inferno movie
Ogami Shukuzen from The Gathering of the Detectives! Shinichi Kudo vs. Kaitou Kid
Oikawa Takeyori from Kaitou Kid and the Four Masterpieces
Leon lowe from The Fist of Blue Sapphire movie

While reading the chapter, it's easy to go with the flow and see this as Conan urging the disabled lady to be moved swiftly to safety, but knowing that the one holding onto the wheelchair there is actually Kid, and he's asked for a favour.
It then becomes clear that the "Hurry!" is less "get out of the fire!" and more "We're on a tight schedule, move it or someone's gonna die!"
This is further hinted at when neither the old lady nor her assistant are seen near the front of the car some panels on:
I also went in knowing (remembering) that Kid would turn out to have been disguised as Shiho this time, but for some reason thought that Shinichi had (somehow) contacted the thief before entering the train.
He, as shown above, didn't.
I can only imagine the urgency he felt, because the plan is... delicate, let's say. Remove one piece from the board on their side, and everything falls apart. There's already too many wild cards. Shinichi HAS to have Kid on board, or they lose.
He likely knew way in advance by looking things up about the train, and Jirokichi, that Kid would be targeting that location, at that time. That they'd cross paths.
He knew that he had to figure out which passenger was Kid, hoping that he hadn't miscalculated, and convince him to play along with something that - even from the start, with how he says "shake off the bad guys going after her" - is dangerous.
Here he is as they're disembarking, talking on the phone to Kaito, likely in a way that's specifically easy to mis-hear as a normal conversation.
Shinichi may have known for a fact that things would become that dire, but at the same time - he quite possibly didn't know how many twists there'd be. He did know, at least, that his mother would be holding up Vermouth, which would take one card out of play and ensure Kid couldn't be tag-teamed by both Vermouth and Bourbon.
I'd even go as far as to suggest that the Shiho disguise was created by Yukiko, and given to him by Conan, as it's highly unlikely that he'd have been able to create it in that short frame of time.
He even warns Kaito here - "They'll probably try to corner her in the storage, where they've got some explosives, so be careful."
So like... as much as I've seen (and probably, at the time, felt myself) that it's an uneven debt... I'd go as far as to say this case emphasises how much Shinichi TRUSTS Kaitou Kid, and also how much he believes in Kid's abilities!
For one thing, Kaito now knows enough about not just Shinichi (he mentioned his mother at the previous heist) but also Haibara:
Do note that she's telling him exactly what to say here, via an ear piece. We don't see a voice changer on the phone she's implied to use earlier on, so it's equally likely he heard Shiho's voice (possible, since he'd need a frame of reference) or Haibara's voice (if he knows she's the child form of the lady he's impersonating, he'd simply age that voice up).
As for Shinichi trusting in Kaitou Kid's abilities?
Well, for that we just have to look back on the past several heists!
Especially the one for the Kirin's Horn, I'd say, since...
Kaito himself was the one to brag about how "I've shown that... nothing's impossible for this Kaitou Kid!" - something that is quickly followed up by Conan sticking an identifier to Kid's back and Kid STILL not being caught.
So Kaito proved that he is capable of disguising as literally anyone, no matter how unlikely or how little he has to go by, and that he's capable of not being caught even with a handicap.
No wonder Shinichi was desperate to have Kaito's help, as he trusted that someone like this, who had a sense of justice (see: Magic Lovers Murder Case, the Samizu Mansion Murder Case, the Four Masterpieces, Iron Tanuki, and Ryoma's gunbelt) would listen and help.

Prompt - Double trouble
So this is for you @gingerwitchhh, hope you like it. But honestly, I didn't run it to my beta yet (she's still busy with the new chapter of the Sherlock-Conan crossover), and the prompts (which are still open) are more to get me back to writing. Right now, it still feels like I don´t know what I'm doing, which is even more frustrating since I should know how to write, yeah but - whatever, hope you'll still like it. Next one will be a glimpse into what happened after "Lost in time" since it was also a prompt (even though it seemed to be gone).
See you next time around :)
----------------------------------------------------------
Double – trouble
“Honestly, I thought our first double date would be a little more… romantic, Heiji.” Kazuha complained, before reaching for Ran's arm, in order to pull her closer for her argument.
“I am sure Ran-san and Kudo-kun would rather see a movie or somethin’ like that! It’s their first well… real meeting with us after all.”
“No offense Kudo-kun” She fussed, but didn’t see the weak smile on the detective's face, while he could clearly see that Ran herself looked rather unwell, being drawn in their argument.
“Actually, Kazuah I piked tha heist because these two are accompanying us.” Heiji clarified proudly when they entered the building.
“After all, “No one get’s hurt” on a Kid heist – So no body’s dropping today for this Tokyo murder magnet.” He grinned, ignoring the girl’s surprised looks as well as the annoyed groan of his friend.
“Oi! Hattori –“
But Shinichi’s protest was drowned by someone calling his fellow detective by the name.
“Hey, Hattori-kun!”
“Ah Nakamori-san, nice ta finally meet ya!” Heiji greeted the young woman, who made her way towards them. Shinichi raised his eyebrows at the familiar name, he knew Heiji had pulled some strings to get them here, but what surprised him wasn't the fact that the two children of police officers seemed to know each other, but the fact that the girl in front of them looked quite similar to Ran.
“I’m glad you could make it! I’m sure you’ll be quite helpful, catching this fealty thief.” She smiled.
“Oi Aho-ko, who are you talking to?“
“Ah Kaito! If you allow me to introduce you to Heiji Hattori, the son of the chief of the Osakan police department and his friends, this is my fried Kaito Kuroba, also my classmate and some crazy wanna be magician and fan of Kid." She sneered in annoyance.
"So just ignore him during – what the?!” She stopped herself, looking from her childhood fried to the guy accompanying Hattori and back.
“WHY are there two of ya!” The detective of the east yelled, before she had the chance to do so.
“Baka-ito I swear if that’s one of your jokes!” Aoko hissed, turning back to her classmate.
“What! No I-“ But even before he had the chance to defend himself a roar of laughter interrupted him, coming from the last person you would have expected, Kudo Shinichi himself.
“Oi Kudo?” Heiji hissed, trying to calm him down, but his friend didn't- or rather couldn’t answer since he couldn't stop his laughter.
“I- I guess the guy just needs some fresh air.” Kaito flustered, taking Shinichi by the shoulders in order to guide him around the next corner.
“I – We’ll be back soon, don't worry about us.”
“Seriously Tantei-san?” The thief growled in annoyance, looking down at the detective who was still bending over from laughter, once they were out of earshot.
Shinichi took a shaking breath, still trying not to burst out laughing again.
Honestly, a room full of police officers, a magician named Kaito – and no one questioned his presence? The detective shook his head.
“So your name is really Kaito, and no one ever figured out that you’re actually Kaitou Kid?”
The high schooler in front of him just raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms in front of his chest.
“Well, no. Seems like my disguise is just as good as your fake glasses have been, brat.” Kaito growled and was satisfied to see his lookalike flinch at the remark.
“At least they never had enough proof to arrest me for good.” He mused.
“So you don't deny it?”
“Huh?” The sudden serious tone of the detective had ripped him from his thought.
“You being Kaito Kid?” Kudo’s blue eyes were piecing his own, before a sly smile appeared on his lips.
“Can’t, right detective? Not after everything that had happened between us.” He smirked, his whole manner had changed from Kaito to Kid within seconds, so that the detective took a step back, slightly flustered.
“That’s not what –“
“Oh relax already will you – honestly you detectives are no fun.” Kaito grumbled, already back to his “usual” self. The sudden change left Shinichi perplex, he knew that changing from one persona to another wasn't that hard when you're used to it, but that didn’t mean it freaked him out any less. The magician – or rather thief – on the other hand, seemed to be much more disturbed by his silence, since he struggled to continue their conversation.
“Besides, it’s not like there are more people with our face running around, are they?“
‘You’d be surprised…’ Shinichi mused.
“So, what are you going to do about it?”
This time it was Shinichi who was surprised by the serious tone of the thief. He was leaning against the wall, arms crossed in front his chest, casually waiting for a reply. Shinichi frowned, despite all this he could clearly see the tension in the magicians shoulders, as well as his gaze which lingered on the hallway behind him, probably planning for the best way to escape.
Kaito was surprised to see a smile appearing on the detective's lips, Kudo had closed his eyes, hiding his hands in his pockets, before he looked up again, still smiling.
“Not much I guess…” He answered with a shrug. But the thief still wouldn't let it drop so easily.
“Awe, you’re still scared I could spill your little secret? Conan Edogawa…” Shinichi tensed at the name, but only for a brief moment, before he rolled his eyes at the not so hidden blackmail in the other high schoolers word.
“Maybe, but beside…” He mused, before a dangerous grin appeared on his lips.
“… where would be the fun in catching Kaito Kuroba, when I’m here for Kid.”
Kaito was taken aback by the detectives' statement for a second, before his lips mirrored his smile.
“Huh, guess you are different after all… Tantei-kun.”
The tension in his shoulders vanished, when he saw that the detective was serious about it, guess he should have known that Kudo would react different from what he was used to.
‘Especially compared to some British nerd, trying to catch me during our Japanese lesson.’ The thief groaned at the thought.
“You shouldn't start celebrating just jet through.” Shinichi warned his look alike, in a serious tone.
“Huh?” Kaito looked up from his thoughts in surprise.
“Well, on the one hand – I’ll still catch you, and on the other…” The detective smirked, pointing over his shoulder.
“… Ran it still waiting out there.”
“What?!”
Kaito followed the hint, bending slightly to the side in order to look around the corner they were hiding behind. It seemed like the three girls were having a great time, while Hattori gave him a sour stare, but once Kudo’s girlfriend saw him, her whole manner changed in an instant. He twitched when he saw her hand forming a first, he very well remembered that the girl could turn solid stone to powder with just one punch.
“I guess she still has a bone to pick with you, after you’ve been playing Dress up ever so often.” The detective added with a smirk, as he saw Kaito slowly losing the color on his face.
“Not to mention Hattori as well-once he’ll figure it out.”
“B-But- I’m sure she wouldn’t, I mean she –“ Kaito stammered
But the detective just laughed at his lack to form a useful sentence, instead he turned around to leave him to his agonizing thoughts.
“Well good luck with that Kaito.” Shinichi mocked.
“I’ll catch you later”
He waved, not looking back, while he made his way back to their small group.
“Oh fuck you, you little –“ The thief growled, as he went after the detective but stopped when Mori’s deadly glance found him once more.
‘Jeez- I’m as good as dead.’
----------------------------------------------------------
Honestly, I wanted to end the shot with a brief flash to a scene after the heist, where Kaito finds a message from Shinichi offering help with the organization – but since that would just leave an open ending, and kind of bittersweet stuff (on Kids side) I skipped it, for one simply happy little shot – after such a long time with no writing at all.
