Appreciating the Beauty of India
Last year we went to a week long trip and explored new places in the mountains. We made our final stop at Shimla before coming home. In the afternoon we all went for a walk at the famous Shimla Mall Road a popular destination for tourists as well as locals.
The distance between the hotel and the mall road was short making it easier for us to reach and enjoy the beauty without worrying about our transport.
I remember going down was easy but coming up was a huge task as the road was pretty steep and we had to take small steps in order to reach the top and if you would think that’s the end. Nope it isn’t the steep continues till the main gate of our hotel.
During the afternoon and night time the mall road looked so pretty I was left mesmerised. Enjoying the long walk exploring, old shops, sitting under the tree watching people pass by and enjoying the sun, having good coffee were a few things I did and of course having good food.
I don’t know why people say that India doesn’t have any beautiful places, everywhere you go it is filthy and dirty but that’s not entirely true.
There are so many beautiful places in our country that people don’t know of and need to know. These places do give a tough competition when compared to foreign countries destination/tourists spots.
And leave the people in awe and wondering whether these kind of places actually existed or not. Sadly Indians don’t take care of their surroundings leading to poor hygienic environmental conditions.

Mangesh Annachhatre’s Winter In Shimla
Rediscovering Simplicity Among the Snow Peaks
Located in the foothills of the Himalayas, Shimla is a perfect place for anyone looking for a peaceful winter vacation. Mangesh Annachhatre visited this hill station last December, and it was like stepping into a winter wonderland. It’s snow capped mountains, tall, pine trees and cozy wooden cottages, Shimla felt like a dream, come true.
Walking Along Mall Road
The first thing that I did when I arrived, was visited, the mall Road. It’s the main street where you find a lot of little shops, cafes and friendly street vendors. I bought a couple of things from there, including a warm woollen scarf and also enjoyed a hot cup of masala chai while listening to the street musicians play their instrument. Another must see spot is the Christ Church, which is the second oldest church in North India. It’s beautiful stand glass windows and peaceful atmosphere was perfect for a moment of reflection. Also, just taking a walk through Mall Road is amazing as it gives you breathtaking views with some savoury food options.
Historic Buildings And Old Stories
One of the highlights of Shimla is its old buildings. I also visited the Viceregal Lodge, which is an impressive and a beautiful building that once house British officials. Walking through its hall, I could imagine what life must have been like during the colonial era. Also, most of the old architecture in buildings give you a very colonial vibe and R and treat to the eyes.
The Train Ride
I also took one of the most famous and talked about train ride in India, which was the toy train from Shimla to Kalka, which is also a UNESCO world Heritage site. The journey was memorable with the train going through tunnels and over bridges, while offering the most amazing views of the snow covered trees and valleys below. The excitement of my fellow passengers made the right even more enjoyable and memorable.
And The Best Part Of The Trip
I tried the local dishes there like Channa Madra and Sidu at a cafe run by a small family. I also tried the pastries and cheesecakes from one of the most famous bakeries over there. The food there was very delicious and most of the cafes were run by couples and small families which gave a very and homely vibe, it felt like home away from home.
Final Thoughts
On Mangesh Annachhatre’s last day in Shimla, I hiked up to Jakhoo Hills, which is the highest point of Shimla. There was a temple that we visited and the view was stunning. Shimla has given us some lasting memories and it is one of the most beautiful hill station, which everyone must visit, and it becomes even more beautiful during winters. It is called Queen of the hill station for a reason.

Essential Tips to Travel to Shimla on a Budget
Shimla, often referred to as the Queen of Hills, captivates everyone with its breathtaking mountains, valleys, and numerous streams. Its enchanting beauty attracts millions of visitors annually, making it a perfect and enjoyable city for travelers worldwide. As you plan a journey or a trip to this serene landscape, budget considerations are one thing that comes to every individual mind.
For that, planning your trip carefully and finding varied ways to save money without compromising your comfort is essential. In this blog post, we will give you some of the essential tips that will help you travel to Shimla on a budget with your near and dear ones.
Tips to Travel to Shimla on Budget
Travel in Off-Peak Season
Selecting the right time to visit can significantly impact your budget. Shimla experiences peak tourist seasons during the summer and winter months. However, the off-season, typically during spring and early fall, offers the same picturesque views and pleasant weather but with fewer people and lower prices. Accommodation and transportation costs tend to be more affordable, allowing travelers to stretch their budget further.
Plan Your Itinerary in Advance
Make your Shimla adventure more pocket-friendly by preparing your travel plan ahead of time. Before you set off for Shimla, research the places you want to explore with your family and friends. In addition, estimate your overall budget and consider transportation, accommodation, and meal expenses.
Planning provides a clear picture of your trip’s financial needs and allows you to save money by booking hotels and transportation early. This thoughtful approach ensures you’re well-prepared for your journey, making it exciting and cost-effective.
Embrace Local Cuisine
Sampling local cuisine is integral to any travel experience, and Shimla offers a delightful array of regional dishes. Eating at local dhabas (roadside eateries) or small, family-run restaurants is a culinary adventure and a budget-friendly option.
Tumblr media
Explore Free and Low-Cost Activities
Shimla is full of natural wonders and cultural experiences that won’t cost you a fortune. Opt for activities like trekking, nature walks, and exploring local markets (like the Mall Road), which are budget-friendly and offer a deeper connection with the destination.
Many scenic spots and temples have no entry fees, providing ample opportunities for exploration without breaking the bank. Engaging with the local community, attending festivals, and participating in cultural events are cost-effective ways to enrich your travel experience.
Opt for Homestays over hotels.
Accommodation expenses can be your major expense during the trip. Instead of booking hotels, opt for cheaper homestays that allow you to explore the local culture and food. Furthermore, homestays offer a much more personalized experience than hotels ever could.
Public transport
Being a tourist hub, Shimla has one of the most well-connected transportation networks in Himachal Pradesh. Public transportation through buses or shared taxis is much cheaper than renting a car or booking private taxis. Besides, the drive through the mountains is a beautiful experience, and public transport allows you to enjoy it without worrying about driving or parking.

One of the most vital things to consider is the best budget hotels in Manali and Shimla. Then again, we also wanted to stay near to the places to visit in Manali. Therefore, we searched hard for Manali stay options that had all the amenities we were looking for.
In the process, we not only considered room booking in Shimla, but also looked for places to stay near Shimla.
Best budget hotels in Shimla to stay with family
Prim Resort, Shimla
There are various inexpensive hotels in Shimla Mall road. However, this inexpensive stay option was on the top of our list as one of the best places to stay in Shimla with family.
It is a heritage resort since the British times. In a nutshell, it is ornamented with Victorian furniture and various antiques and also an old fireplace. The place is full of memories. It is located very near to the Mall road, imparting it the benefit of being near Mall road and still being an old-time resort.
The resort is an oasis of peace away from the buzz of the city while still being at walking distance from it. Ultimately, a Golf course and a charming forest full of birds across the premises finish the entire resort setup. We spoke to the manager and he was very eager about having us there. Basically, he was providing great discount package also, as we were visiting during the tourist season. Moreover, the in-campus restaurant is renovated to serve delectable food.
Benefits
Those near to the mall road, it is set to a hidden and incline from the bustle and hustle of the town.
Many options within a sprawling living room and outside with a huge lawn for leisure and to unwind.
Great food options
Drawbacks
If someone wants to walk all the way from the Mall road, it will be a bit hectic due to the steep incline.
Snow Valley Resort Shimla
Being a centrally air-conditioned hotel with 72 rooms, with all the contemporary amenities and surrounded by lovely views on all the sides, that is Snow Valley Resort, Shimla. It is just 15 minutes drive from the Mall road. It has all the facilities necessary for a convenient stay.
Flag house resort, Shimla
It is a luxury resort situated in the hills of Shimla. It comes with various categories of epicurean rooms. The top-notch cottages and rooms have private balconies with bird’s eye view of the mountains and the valley.
