❄️Little snow bird❄️

(Tumblr refuses to let me upload all my pictures at once from my phone. Sorry for the format.)
basically, I made a gift for my aunt who has invited us over to her place for Christmas day. Originally it was gonna be a friendly mushroom with frills underneath its massive cap.
However, as I worked on it and draw closer to finishing the bottom of the cap, it looked more like a bird to me .
The technique I used to get the layers of shell stitches to look like feathers actually is kind of a wrist breaker if you’re not careful.
essentially, after you did all your increases up to 42 stitches in increments of six stitches and worked up roughly about three rows of single crochet.
in the front loops you start off with a single crochet then you do a shell stitch with five treble (double) crochets which gets secure immediately by slip stitch into the Free stitch next to it and then you repeat by making another single crochet until you’ve reached the end of your round after making your last shell stitch. You put a single crochet.
and in the back loops, you would decrease and then repeat this process until you’re up to 24 stitches. After you finish your final row of shell stitches you just simply see your crochet up the top 24 as if you were just crocheting a sphere and you finish off when you have six stitches from decreasing after five hours of 24.
That is effectively how I got the body .
Admittedly, all of this is free handed, and my wrists are in dreadful pain as a result.
though now I have something pretty cool to give to my aunt and a better idea what I’m gonna do next time I’m gonna try something like this because I really do love the end result.

Only 12 inches and a border to do before this blanket is finished. It is 60 inches wide and will be 72 inches long. The completion date should no later than Valentines Day. I started on the week of Thanksgiving of 2024.

working on a sock pattern and not only is the description of how to do the shell stitch incorrect in the explanation of the stitch, it's also wrong in the pattern itself.
In fact, I have to take the second row of the first explanation and match it to the second row of the second explanation to actually get the damn thing to work.
Never trust a shell pattern that says, "repeat row X" as the instruction for continuing a shell pattern. Unless the shells are stacked on top of each other (rare), this is just fucking wrong.
#shell stitch#crochet#wip#it's the adirondack socks pattern from interweave crochet 2009#i have two colors of cobasi to make them cute#so by god i will fucking prevail#but i'm terrified what the next part of the pattern is gonna lie about

For the past week, ive been disciplining myself to crochet a minimum of 2 rows or more. The width of this “lap/body” blanket is under 5 feet wide. And will be at least that or longer when I’m finished.

I will never regret making anything rainbow, but I may make a second one in white thread on coloured cloth, just because I think it would look lacy and cool. Cross stitch and blackwork embroidery on 14-count Aida cloth.
Pattern here (my site) or here (Etsy).

Here are some new additions to the (Don’t) Touch Pool. The Zombie Worms feed on whale bones and secrete acid. The Cone Snails have deadly stings, but components of their venom are used to treat pain, depression, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Finally, the Flower Urchin is covered with venomous “cups” and will cover themselves with rocks, shells, and debris. 🐚🪱🪸

🪼My biggest jellyfish (yet) 🪼

Finished another side project! He started around the time I was still working on my blanket.
I used a 2,25 mm hook since this was a weight 2 wool (K and C luxe merino to be specific)yarn. Made mostly with half double and double crochet for the shells and the shorter tentacles.
Embroidered some blush and a cute mouth . Then I stuffed em with some squishmallow guts and give him shiny eyes for that ✨sparkle✨
Anyways, hope you have a wonderful day!

Surely one of these books from the library will help me identify this crochet stitch cluster….
#it’s something my mom made for me when I was way younger#like. body smaller lol it’s too short so I wanna try to add to it#looks like some manner of shell / fan stitch#but since it was so long ago I’m p sure mom can’t recall#and doesn’t have the pattern#but it coulda been unique to the pattern too I guess lol

I have finished a cross stitch! I honestly don’t know when I started this kit, but it’s been at least 15 years and moved with me four times.

It was probably too complicated for me when I bought it, but it is very pretty.
