I know there is no story behind this and it really doesn’t make sense storyline wise but Randy vs Sheamus would be a banger at Wrestlemania.

Wrestling lore is really funny to explain to non-wrestling people, mainly because you have to suspend your disbelief much more than you would do for stuff like anime or superhero fiction. Think of it like this; it’s normal for a shonen anime protagonist or a superhero to demonstrate they have superpowers usually because it’s established early on. That also goes for other parts of the lore, such as the world-building, the MacGuffins, and the history of that world.

But in wrestling, characters and storylines change all the time and are ongoing (I’ve seen the term “longform storytelling” used). So you end up with HUGE leaps in logic, such as:

1) There’s a supernatural being from hell who temporarily became a biker gang member, and then went back to being a supernatural being from hell

2) There’s a male model who gave out grooming tips who eventually evolved into Captain America/Homelander.

3) Triple H committed burglary on camera. He invaded Randy Orton’s home, beat him up, destroyed some of his property, and then threw Orton out the window. But it’s all fine because he’s the good guy, so he’s still employed by the WWE.

4) Dominik Mysterio is beefing with his dad, who literally fought for child custody of him in a wrestling match. Keep that in mind anytime you see Dominik not getting along with Rey.

5) Edge got sent to hell, but is okay now.

6) CM Punk was once a cult leader, but stopped doing that after he lost his hair. Then he became the opposite, as in he turned into an anti-authority rebel.

7) A lot of wrestlers, such as Sheamus and Shawn Spears, apparently used to work at WWE as background staff/security guards.

8) Real life famous music artist Bad Bunny is part of the lore and he actually beat a world champion (Damian Priest) in a match. And I don’t mean Bad Bunny is playing a character. In the WWE lore, Bad Bunny is playing himself.

Wade Barrett knew, deep down, that he had truly deserved everything that had happened out in the middle of the ring, especially because it wasn't the first betrayal he had suffered through. The first betrayal had been at the hands of CM Punk, who had turned his brothers in The Nexus against him. Wade knew that had been the karma that the things The Nexus had done brought with it. The second betrayal had been at the hands of the Corre. Even that, Wade could begin to understand, was the repercussions of just how poorly he had treated Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel. But this betrayal? This pain? Wade could think of no reason that the pain of a boot to the face from someone he loved so deeply had come.

Until that moment, it had been a rather nice night. There was an inherent tenseness, sure, but Wade knew that happened on nights before matches. It was just the stress of what was about to come in the ring. The loss had only brough about more tenseness, especially since the loss had come against the blasted New Day of all teams. Wade had taken the pin after letting himself become distracted, though as he tried to push Xavier Woods out of the pin, Wade could see Sheamus' emerald eyes. Those usually bright, jovial eyes seemed to radiate nothing. Not during the loss, not when Sheamus had spoken about a team only being as strong as its weakest member. It wasn't until Rusev and Del Rio had restrained his arms behind his back that Wade saw that fire Sheamus held inside, moments before Sheamus boot collided with his jaw.

"Serves me right for being a prick all these years," Wade let out a heavy sigh as he sat with his head in his hands, the normally bustling locker room eerily quiet. After all, he had led the Nexus. He had led The Corre. Karma catching up to him was par for the course at this point. This time was supposed to be different. This team was supposed to be different.

The sound of the locker room door opening caused Wade to lift his head, every muscle in his body tensing as Sheamus walked in. The Irishman held his hands up, trying to show that at least in this moment he meant no harm. "Calm down, Stu. I-"

"𝐍𝐨. You no longer have any right to call me that," Wade scoffed as he stood, still prepared for the fight that he was almost certain was coming. His jaw jutted forward, snarl deep in his throat. "Ya know, I never expected this out of you, Sheamus. Rusev? Del Rio? Sure. But never you."

"Stu, I didn't want to," Sheamus attempted to take a step forward, but stopped when he saw how Wade held himself, "I…I just thought…"

"Thought?" Wade let out a shark bark of a laugh, "You didn't think about anything but yourself!"

HIs English brogue echoed throughout the room, causing Sheamus to wince at the sound. For a brief moment, Wade's hate-filled grey eyes met Sheamus' regret filled green, before Sheamus glanced at the tile floor. They had almost seemed truthfully remorseful, but Wade refused to believe the Irishman could be truthful. He watched as Sheamus' boot scoffed against the tile, his voice leaving him almost as a whisper, "It's safe now. We don't have to hide anymore."

𝐼𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑠𝑎𝑓𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑤? 𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑑𝑖𝑑𝑛'𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑖𝑑𝑒?

"What are you bloody yammering on about?" Wade huffed, his arms crossing over his broad chest.

"The…the lads kept asking questions about us being a couple. I…I didn't want to ruin our reputation so…I didn't tell them! I swear I didn't tell them!" Sheamus' voice was quick, as if he was trying to find the reason in his own head, "I hid it. I swear I…"

Whatever rage Wade had been feeling doubled as his jaw clenched even tighter. He had never once believed his love for Sheamus was something to hide. He had never asked for anything from the Irishman but love and respect. "I never asked you to hide us! I loved you Stephen! Why…"

"I didn't mean to-"

"To what!? To offend me? You did that by hiding our relationship! To hurt me? You did that when you bloody Brogue Kicked me!" Wade shoved Sheamus, hot and angry tears threatening his gaze as he turned to face his locker, shoving his things in his bag, "Ya know, I wasn't planning on making my announcement 'til later, but you get to find out now. I'm leaving."

There was an eerie silence to the room, Sheamus looking like a deer in the headlights of oncoming traffic, "What?"

"Professionally? I haven't been happy in a long time. The only reason I stayed was for 𝑦𝑜𝑢. You just sealed my decision," Wade shouldered his bag, letting out a teary breath that he hadn't been aware was stuck in his throat, "I'm not renewing my contract."

"Wade…Stu…"

"Don't call me that! You lost your right to call me that!" Wade turned sharply, hands pressing against Sheamus' chest roughly and shoving his now former partner to the ground, "I 𝑇𝑅𝑈𝑆𝑇𝐸𝐷 you! I 𝐵𝐸𝐿𝐼𝐸𝑉𝐸𝐷 you! But worst of all? Worse of all, Stephen? I loved you. I. Loved. You. And all you did was lie to cover your own ass. I'm done. We're done."

Sheamus knelt in the floor, watching as Wade turned back around crossing past him to the door, "Please. Please, Wade. I can fix this. I can fix us. I'll shout about us from every rooftop, fella. Please."

Wade stopped at the door, one hand resting against the frame and the other on the doorknob. His chest heaved with every angry breath, but he wanted so badly to turn back around. He wanted to kneel in the floor with Sheamus, to wrap his arms around the man who meant everything to him. His anger simply wouldn't let him. His pride wouldn't let him.

"Get off of your knees, Stephen. You wouldn't want Rusev and Del Rio to mistake you for the team's weakest link, would you?"
