The height of romanticizing The Secret History is when Henry tells Richard he knew it was him who made coffee because it was burnt. Henry was stating a fact at best and making a dig at worst but Richard was like "Omg, he remembered uwu 😊🥺💗 ".

One of my favorite things about Francis Abernathy is that he’d rather die than lose his dignity.
Though he eventually chose to marry someone he didn’t love over losing all his money, his primary decision was to reject both options by giving up on his life. He described it as “the honorable thing”—ending his life to preserve his dignity permanently.
I do think he was too vulnerable to follow through with any choice though. He could have stood up against his family or tried slitting his wrists once again, but he never did.

I refuse to believe Francis Abernathy doesn’t exist in reality. I often unconsciously wonder what he’d be doing at the moment—perhaps in his 60s, in a wheelchair, having a cup of tea and patting a cat in his house in Boston.
#he’s just so well written he’s even starred in my dreams for 3 times#the secret history#francis abernathy

I feel like nobody talks that much about the greek class' homelife or backstory, etc etc that much? I don't see anything about Francis' mother giving birth to him young and how people often mistake them as siblings, the fact that Camilla and Charles fought over a tape measure because their uncle felt bad for them (and also their grandparents and their real parents!? nobody says anything !!!), the fact that Henry's mother cared for him so much (maybe there were posts about it, but i've only seen one so far, briefly mentioned), how Bun has 4 brothers and how his dad made all of them fend for themselves (and also how because Bun had 4 brothers, he could easily pinpoint people's insecurities and weaknesses, and irritate them. also since he's more social due to his family, he knows how to befriend others and isnt isolated like most of the greek class !!), and also that RICHARD. The character telling the whole thing, has been abused by his dad and neglected by his mum??
This isn't a complaint, I just seriously want to see those long ahh paragraphs about their homelives and shortcomings and how that effects them and stuff !! I. AM. INTERESTED.
please please give me posts about them if I hacen't seen it... Just a crumb....🙏

"You think you're _ but you're actually Richard Papen"
The same Richard Papen who literally pulled Francis Abernathy, Sophie Dearbold, Judy Poovey, & Mona Beale among some other unnamed people?
I don't think so. Unless you're someone who literally gets asked out by hot people on the regular & have people willing to cheat on their significant other to have one night stand with you, you're NOT Richard Papen.
He's definitely relatable, but he's also super unrelatably hot & 99.9% of us would be bigger NPCs than him.

saw someone say Henry would be a flat-earther and i couldn't disagree more. not because he’s smart, but because the ancient greeks and romans knew the earth was round. if they didn’t think the earth was round THEN Henry would be a flat-earther.
so no, Henry would not be a flat-earther. but he definitely thought women had less teeth than men because of Aristotle. and probably other very dumb but old ideas about the world.
