Things I loved about the Shardlake adaptation, now I'm all caught up:-

the acting HOLY SHIT. Especially Arthur Hughes but everyone is amazing. Not a mediocre performance in the whole thing, let alone a bad one.

it's been a while since I read Dissolution but that seemed like a pretty decent adaptation. Some excellent nuance, all setting up the possibility of more series. Lovely lovely.

pretty gorgeous (if overly dark) cinematography.

I have to mention Arthur Hughes again. <3 <3 <3

okay, I admit I'm going to be reading the odd Matthew/Jack fic; I'm not made of stone. ;-)

Less keen:-

THAT THING THEY KEPT DOING WITH THE VERBS. It doesn't make it more convincingly of the time (nor should it, because having the whole thing in Early Modern English would have been an error), it's just clumsy. Having it in modern-ish English but without anything seriously idiomatically now would have done just fine and iirc is precisely what Sansom did.

thinking about it it's also unrealistic that there's relatively little swearing but that's not actually jarring.

that was a gorgeous building but it did not even a tiny tiny bit convince as an abbey in south-east England in the 16th century. I mean come onnn. ;-)

Just funny:

fairly sure I saw a spray-painted modern colour blotch on one of the sheep hehehe. ;-)

Anyway, overall I loved it. :-)
