Massive lore/plot info dump
The reason why I'm doing this is if I don't put this out I feel like the [REDACTED] in my head will get me
Just a bit of background
I like yuri and Shantae x Risky has high potential for great stories. And I've been sitting with this story for a while. I've red stories of this ship on AO3 all great but there was just something missing to me, the 3 examples stories on AO3 are (spoilers for these 3).
My precious treasure by CEproductions [finished]: the idea that Shantae and Risky have a secret relationship behind everyones back and the danger of being found out is thrilling. But it's short.
Rogue tides by MalkavianCake [finished]: the idea that both Shantae and Risky need each other for adventure and Shantae joining Risky's crew and maybe have a child together. It's also kinda short and doesn't have any fallow up.
Daughter of the morning by Hardman5509: Shantae carrying Risky's child and Shantae realising that she acctually has fallen for Risky is wonderful and all. But the artist hasn't [as of writing this post] not updated it since 2017, that kinda makes be pissed
And my mind having ADHD + autism and making up stories as it does. It started very small but than it spiraled into something that I just couldn't keep in my head anymore. So what's this long term AU about?
The full serues will be called "The princess and the pirate"
The first thing is that I wanted this AU to span over a long period of time and games [tho I have the tendence to switch from game to game and story to not get bored] and I know ½ Genie Hero is suppose to be a soft reboot but it has a lot of potential if it took place in the same time-line. Also I want to write Shantae having multiple "phases" in her relationship with Risky.
And now for a little synopsis. Shantae 1-3 (even tho 2 hasn't come out yet) I will not write that, maybe in the far of future I will write it as a doomed prequal like the Star wars epsidodes. But the important part is at the end of Revenge Shantae discovers something about herself.
6 months later, ½ way through Pirates Curse Shantae and Risky WILL do the dirty deed (R18+). And at the end of it Shantae and Risky decide to keep their relationship a secret from everyone.
Now after that Shantae and Risky will go on adventures behinds Shantae's friends back, the Genie With 2 Lifes (GW2L) volume. This wil have 13 arcs spread over 1 year. And it includes as Shantae visiting Risky's new island, going on a few raids with her, finding genie artifacts and of course the Valentine special and more. Shantae will also gain the new transformations seen in ½ Genie Hero and a original one. I want to write a reason how and why Shantae has those in the ½ Genie Hero game.
Now ½ Genie Hero (½gh). It will start near the couples anniversary but thanks to [REDACTED for spoilers] it's get interupted and their relationship goes public with all the effects that fallow. It will also have some changes, including 2 defectors, 1 "level" removed and replaced with 2-3 new locations, a new/original transformation, a little glimps about Risky's past and don't worry, Shantae will get her well deserved anniversary gift.
Now I didn't want for 7 Sirens to take immidiatley after ½ Genie hero. I wan to give the 2 some breathing room about that they don't need to hide anymore. This shorter volume the 2 will meet a silver haired hunter and give Shantae another original transformation. More pirate gear and [REDACTED]
7 Sirens is a bit of a road block for me both because I haven't played it in a long time nor finished it but I want to make sure that this adventure is just the coupme having a realy weird first vacation
Now there is a gap because I don't know if Wayforward is gonna make another/more Shantae game(s) in the future so I'll skip it for now and go the Future parts of my AU [again I tend to jump form arc to arc to not get bored]
Shantae Future: and of course I want Shantae and Risky to get married, but let's just say that the honeymoon got an unexpected extension and after that the couple will have to deal with a bun in the oven.
I even have some drafts of the next Generation. Including Shantae's ½ genie daughter and her friends going on their own adventures. Like at the age of 10 she sneaks out of the house to find a genie artifact or at the age of 13 going to my version of Africa
#my post#shantae au#info dump#lore dump#the princess and the pirate#shantae x risky#Pirates curse#gw2l#Genie with 2 lifes#½gh#½ Genie Hero#The adventures of Shantae and Risky#TaoSaR#7 sirens#Shantae Future#Shantae next generation

Okay, I promised a writeup of Luo Binghe voter fraud meme, and as Luo Binghe is currently in the finals of the poll this happened on, I figure now's a good time.
So! It all started when Luo Binghe, our beloved half-demon child, was submitted to @/hybrid-battle tournament - or rather, as it was called at the time, @half-being-battle. He won his first poll easily enough, but round 2 was a close battle where he and his opponent, Shantae from eponymous game, took the lead from one another a few times.
In the last ~12 hours, Binghe was losing slightly after a popular blog rb'd the poll with a call to vote for Shantae. However, SVSSS fandom caught this in time and passed the poll around some more. The poll ended with Luo Binghe winning with 51% of votes - or, as simple calculation will reveal, 14 votes lead.
We breathed out a collective sigh of relief, but too soon - as half a day later, someone sent this ask:
(x)
Initially the pollrunner wasn't intending to do anything about it, but then someone suggested a teamup option, and the poll for the option was made (x). It was rb'd by some SVSSS fans with the general sentiment of 'free our boy he did nothing wrong', but didn't gain real traction until:
@gaywarcriminals reblogged it with a small rant in Binghe's defense
@piosplayhouse rb'd said rant with addition of the image from vol.3 cover, of Shen Qingqiu holding Luo Binghe's hand, edited to look like SQQ is the one saying the text above.
This version of the post was circulated in fandom overnight, leading to 'Luo Binghe moves on alone' option winning by a large margin - and, ofc, to the birth of "Luo Binghe voter fraud" meme.
Though aside from this particular post being funny, there was another factor contributing to the meme catching on: how damn in-character it all was. The following sentiments were all repeated more than once in the post's notes:
Luo Binghe getting accused of crimes he didn't commit? Omg just like in canon!
Shen Yuan would absolutely buy bots to get his most beloved blorbo to win an internet poll.
It's just Luo Binghe's protagonist halo!
All of which made the situation fucking hilarious.
Then, the next day, tumblr user verycharismaticdragon (whoever they might be 😉) made some fanart about it, which possibly aided the spread of the meme too.
Also, SVSSS fandom surprised the mod with our chillness 😅
(x)
Since then, Binghe has been going strong in that poll - and now, he's in the finals! So make sure to vote for him; as we all know now, the real voter fraud is the friends we made along the way. And I do recommend checking Luo Binghe's tag on the poll for some fun propaganda we've been making, including a family tree by Pio and some more art by yours truly <3
But wait! There was also another layer to the voter fraud iceberg. The tl;dr:
At about the same time Luo Binghe vs Shantae ended, Hua Cheng was losing in round 1 of @/the-ghost-bracket, with something like 39% of votes to his name. In a desperate move, I linked his poll under my bingqiu voter fraud art, which gave him a boost to get close to a tie, but didnt flip the poll. The next day, I was explaining the LBH voter fraud meme to my friends, and mentioned Hua Cheng's poll too - which was when inspiration struck me, resulting in...
this post. [ID: art of Xie Lian with a wooden board which reads "Puqi shrine accepting donations in the form of votes for Hua Cheng in the ghost bracket", captioned "please help dianxia, he doesn't have the money for voter fraud"] Which gave the poll enough visibility for Hua Cheng to win with over 62% of votes in the end. (The link in the post is currently changed to round 2 poll, which HC was also initially losing. Srsly besties we gotta follow the tourneys to get our babygirls to win!)
So: LBH voter fraud meme had even helped little bro Huahua out.
And thats about it! Since then, the scum villain fandom has been joking about voter fraud on all of our polls 😂
(Aaaand the last reminder to vote Bingbing in the finals. His opponent has been gaining lately and I think we shouldn't leave it to the protagonist halo this time.)
#if i missed some important Moment lmk#luo binghe#svsss#scum villain's self saving system#scum villain's self-saving system

What are the odds of Freddy Fazbear actually joining Super Smash Bros.?
Now, many people will say he shouldn't join, me being one of them, whether that's because he's seen as a meme character, lack of moveset potential, or just blind hatred is not the discussion. No, we are asking if it's actually possible for Five Night's at Freddy's to join not only Super Smash Bros. but the other "Challengers of Smash" (posts every Monday) as well.
Can Freddy join Smash?
Starting with Nickelodeon All Star Brawl, No, just no.
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has a variety of reasons that they won't add Freddy. The first is that it's a Nickelodeon game, and given that all of the characters are Nickelodeon characters and Garfield, it's highly likely that Nickelodeon won't add them to keep with their brand aimed toward kids, despite most of FNAF's fan base, behind the scenes controversy and the fact that canonically most of NASB's roster will either No Diff Freddy, see this as another Saturday or will be completely ignored by him/her. Maybe if this was Viacom All Star Brawl or if it took up the name of its predecessor: Super Brawl. Then, the odds would rise to being slim.
Rating: Ha, no/10
Next up is Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. Unlike Nickelodeon, the question isn't because he'd feel out of place due to the entire cast having differing themes and art styles. It's not because Freddy isn't a Playstation icon again due to the roster of the previous game. In this case, Freddy seems just as likely to join as Crash Bandicoot or Gubble. No, the main reason is because PSASBR is dead. The game came out in 2012, a decade, and 2 console generations ago.
Rating: Dead Game/10
Multiversus is up next and...I'd say 50/50. Yeah, unlike NASB and PSASBR, Multiversus is more based upon popularity, moveset potential, and whether WB has its head stuck up it's a__.
Rating: 5/10
The penultimate game is Fraymakers, being an indie based Smash Bros. Crossover makes Freddy a likely contender. The question is, either McCleoud or Scott Cawthon ready and/or willing to let him join?
Rating: More likely than you think/10
Finally, we reach Super Smash Bros. and I'd have to say Spirit or Mii Costume at best. Five Night's at Freddy's is a horror game, a pretty ok horror game, but one none the less. Compared to some of the other "horror" franchises in Smash Bros., we have Luigi's Mansion, which is more of a Scooby-Doo scary rather than actual horror, Castlevania despite being some level of violent is more so Fantasy Horror and Resident Evil, which is a "modern fantasy" version of horror, if that makes sense. And while yes, Eternal Darkness and Fatal Frame exist, they are in because Nintendo was involved in their games. Five Nights at Freddy's, on the other hand, has literal on-screen atari style, child murder as a legit feature, and while there is a chance that some of the other franchises previously listed have some degree of child murder as well, you forget those franchises are multi-generational AAA games. Indie games do have a presence in Smash but to a much lesser degree than the big companies, and Freddy has some tough competition in that department, Shovel Knight, Shantae, Zagreus, Sans, and CommanderVideo already appearing in Smash, and outside you have characters such as Hat Kid and The Knight from Hollow Knight as viable options. So, while Freddy has a chance due to multiple factors, including whether Smash will continue to expand the roster or if it will reboot. Sorry, this is just a party you probably won't be rented out for.
Rating: Sorry, Freddy/10
But what do you think, does Freddy have a chance to join Smash or its challengers? Let me know in the comments. I do have actual roster design ideas, but they felt kinda samey, so I decided to mix in some Roster Chance Ideas into the mix, so i'll take turns with both concepts.

Hi Everyone!! Here is another next gen for my Blossom Love AU. Harriet's parents are Sven and Burt. Harriet is very kind, sweet and lovable. She's also very organized and loves being social all the time. Harriet has always exceeded her parents expectations of her to a whole new level with her being super intelligent ever since she was a filly and having the ability to think of quick changes to already established plans on the spot. Harriet also has a close bond with Jewel and Ember (Twin daughters of Reginald Copperbottom and Right Hand Man) as she deeply respects them and sees them having lots of leadership potential. Harriet is an important member as she can tell the difference between a real jewel and a fake jewel hence how she got her cutie mark. Things were great until Harriet had a mission to help The Toppat Clan steal priceless jewels from Adrian (Aladdin and Jasmine's son) and his family after Adrian spent years using his special talent to find them all over Agrabah. You see, Harriet did fall in love with someone once, but sadly, they only saw her as a friend and ended up falling in love with another girl, which broke Harriet's heart. She ended up thinking she could never love again until she met Adrian during her mission. The two ended up falling in love, which was something Jewel and Ember told Harriet not to do in order to not screw up their plan. Harriet knew she had to keep The Toppat Clan and their plan a secret but it did hurt her a lot to keep this secret from her crush. The Toppat Clan eventually struck their plan into action once Harriet was invited to Agrabah Palace after she gained enough trust from Adrian and his family so she can give the location to Jewel and Ember as according to their overall plan. Adrian, of course, felt betrayed after Jewel and Ember along with the rest of The Toppat Clan were able to successfully steal those priceless jewels with Harriet feeling overwhelming amounts of guilt for betraying Adrian's trust. A couple days later, Harriet secretly thought of a plan to run away from The Toppat Clan and explain everything to Adrian, but unfortunately, her plan didn't go to smoothly as someone caught her just before she could reach the airship escape pods. Jewel, Ember and her parents were shocked to find out about Harriet's plan to run away, but before they could convince her to stay, Harriet jumped into an escape pod and left, heading straight for Agrabah. She later landed there and was discovered by Adrian's best friend, Twinkle Aurora (The Genie and Shantae's daughter). Of course, Twinkle Aurora never wanted to see Harriet again after she betrayed her best friend, but Harriet explained that she had no choice and wanted to see Adrian and his family to explain everything and that she even abandoned The Toppat Clan as well, which left Twinkle Aurora in both absolute shock and confusion. Twinkle Aurora believed Harriet and took her straight to Agrabah Palace, where Harriet was able to explain herself and The Toppat Clan's plan to Adrian and his family. Adrian and his family later on understood that Harriet had no other choice as she didn't want to betray her family and friends, but also didn't want to betray Adrian either. They later on came to a decision to let Harriet stay with Adrian and his family in Agrabah Palace as she had no where else to go. Credit goes to Selenaede for the base I used and to Puffballs United, Inner Sloth, Wayforward, Disney, Lauren Faust and Hasbro for creating The Henry Stickmin Collection, The Shantae Video Games, Disney's Aladdin and My Little Pony:Friendship Is Magic as well as creating the characters, Sven, Burt, Reginald Copperbottom, Right Hand Man, General Hubert Galeforce, Fleur De Lis, Aladdin, Jasmine, The Genie and Shantae as well as creating The Toppat Clan and The Government and the locations, The Airship, Agrabah and Agrabah Palace as well. I only take credit for my next gens, art, ships, stories and the Blossom Love AU. I hope you guys like her!!!

Shantae Pokemon Teams...2!
So, when Pokemon Scarlet and Violet were released, I did a special crossover post to celebrate. So, now that the last of the SV DLC has released...I decided to do it again!
Like last time, spoilers for Pokemon from The Indigo Disk, though only like...ONE minor thing that wasn't in the trailers. I'm mostly just mentioning it for people who want to go in blind
Before we do anything, I'm going to make some quick alterations to my teams from last time, starting with:
Vera - Grass Type Specialist
Lilligant
Exeggutor
Roserade
Ferrothorn
Appletun -> Hydrapple
Leavanny
...I mean. Come on. Multi-headed apple dragon. I kinda had to make the alteration. Anyway, next and final one:
Harmony - Ground Type Specialist -> All-Rounder/No Specialty
Mudsdale
Garganacl
Conkeldurr
Archaludon
Blissey
Mamoswine
I still stand by the fact that Harmony would be a champion rather than an Elite Four member...and, well, they tend to have a more generalized team than a specific specialty. So! Adjusted Harmony's team to properly reflect this.
Now, to characters I HAVEN'T covered before...
Twitch and Vinegar - Fire/Poison Type Specialists
Turtonator
Dragalge
Darmanitan
Toxicroak
Scovillain
Vileplume
I put these two together because I figured they would be a dual battle Gym Leader type of situation - Twitch with the fire Pokemon, Vinegar with the poison Pokemon.
Squid Baron - Water Type Specialist
Octillery
Crawdaunt
Seismitoad
Quagsire
Tentacruel
Barbaracle
I mean. I feel like this one should be fairly obvious
Ammo Baron - Fighting Type Specialist
Machamp
Falinks
Crabominable
Annihilape
Pangoro
Sawk
Unfortunately there is not an explosion type (and if the closest one to it is, well. gestures to Twitch), so I went with the next best thing and chose Fighting
Hypno Baron - Ghost Type Specialist
Spiritomb
Banette
Mismagius
Dusknoir
Chandelure
Golurk
The nice thing about Rottytops being a Pokemon Coordinator rather than a Gym Leader is that I can have Type overlap with Hypno Baron, who is the ACTUAL Ghost Gym Leader.
Techno Baron - Dark Type Specialist
Honchkrow
Weavile
Scrafty
Malamar
Bombirdier
Krookodile
Techno Baron was...a tough one, to say the least, considering I AM saying he's a Gym Leader and Steel and Electric were already taken on the Gym Leader front, so! Had to improvise! Something of a stretch, but: Techno Baron is a capitalist, with all the dubious morality that implies. He really is suited to the dark type
Holly Lingerbean - Bug Type Specialist
Scolipede
Orbeetle
Masquerain
Volcarona
Vespiquen
Scizor
Would have gone for Psychic but, ah, that one's being used by someone a tiny bit more important, so...going the Wilbur route it was! I may be the only dedicated Holly Lingerbean fan here but I had to try on some level. Speaking of - we're out of gym leader spots and I can't figure out where to place who, so just imagine one of the characters from here or last time being part of the Elite Four instead. That's all
With this I've covered...mostly everyone with a few exceptions. If you want to see this through to the end, feel free to tell me so and I'll consider it!

(So you know how this
is a Thing in the Disgaea series? Wanted to do something with that in the SMG AU but make it Not A Joke.)
While relaxing at home, Shantae hears a knock on her lighthouse's front door, "Coming!"
As she walks over, she wonders who could be visiting this late in the evening. It probably wasn't either of her SMGs, seeing as they'd already had an incident involving Ammo Baron and an unusually large Egg (the capitalization there is important) and filled their Wacky Misadventure quota for at least the next few days. And her canon friends all usually had their own things going on at home right about now.
Well, no more time to speculate. She opens the door with a hopefully-not-too-wide smile (Avatar-grade GMod physics are a real bitch sometimes), "Good evening! What can I...do...uh..."
She's stunned speechless by who she finds; a very tall, very attractive woman who is also very clearly Laharl! She does her best to look up at them, and then very quickly further up when she underestimates the height difference. 'Ohhh, mother have mercy do NOT oogle your genderbent mean demon friend We Have Sexy Zombie Girlfriend at Home.'
For their part, Laharl looks uncharacteristically nervous, or at least is uncharacteristically not hiding their nerves behind either aloofness or rage, "Hi Shantae. If you're not too busy I was hoping for some magic advice?"
'Okay, friend needs help. That I can work with.' "Of course! Come on in."
The two head inside and into the living room, with Shantae settling into a chair while Laharl takes the couch.
"So, what kind of advice where you looking for?"
"Well, uh...I'm guessing you've noticed I look different right now?"
'Different is certainly right.' "Well, I wasn't gonna say anything but...wait, I think I remember this from your games. Did you get stuck like this again from a SMG adventure or something? 'Cause I definitely know a few tricks to make a transformation revert."
There's a flash of...relief? embarrassment? something across their face before they go back to nervous, "Oh, you know where it's from. That makes things easier. And ah, no, dispelling it isn't the problem, I actually changed on purpose this time and I already know the counterspell. I was actually wondering if you know how to modify a transformation."
'Huh, okay then.' "Yeah, I've done that before. Not sure how compatible our magic systems are, but I can at least tell you what works for me. So, what kind of changes are we looking for? Hair color, shoe size, you wanna add wings or a tail?"
"Ah, nothing that drastic, I really just...just want it to feel...more like "me," I guess..." Despite how much taller they are than usual, they quickly curl in on themselves as they say this, suddenly seeming smaller than she's ever seen them.
'Oh...ohhhh.' "This...isn't the first time you've used this form on purpose, is it?"
"...No. I ah, I don't use it very often, there's a lot about it that's honestly a bit much, especially given...well, if you've played the games you probably know about a particular phobia of mine?"
"Yeah...That. That boss fight really hit different after I actually met you."
"Right, so this?" they gesture to their chest, "Does not work for me. Plus it just generally feels like some...some stupid exaggerated fanservicy parody of me. Which makes sense since that's all it was really supposed to be but like, come on!"
"Trust me, I get it. But, you're using it anyway?"
"Yeah, well...at certain points being mildly uncomfortable like this is still an improvement over my boy form."
"About that, I've been using 'they' for you in my head since you got here since I wasn't really sure what was going on. Would you prefer 'she,' or..."
Laharl finally fully relaxes at that, her presence once again filling the room like it usually does, "Yes, please do."
"No problem. Now, to start off, we'll probably want to get you down to your usual age...wait, are you older right now? 'Cause it kind of seems like it, but with how much is different I'm not sure."
She tilts her hand in a 'so-so' gesture, "Kind of? It's-so I'm guessing you know how I got this form the first time?"
"Flonne's angel world flowers, right?"
"Exactly. Now for most of the demons affected it just messed with their internal magic in some way and caused minor physical changes, but I'm half human, so it outright suppressed my demon half. Not enough to interfere with my power level, thankfully, but it made it so I was technically only about forty percent demon. And since humans have far shorter lifespans than demons and my human half specifically came from my mother, the result was me going from a teenage boy to a woman in her early twenties."
"Huh. That's actually kinda neat. And in that case dropping your age is definitely the right starting point. Thankfully I have plenty of experience with that thanks to my Monkey form. So, how you want to start is-"
This goes on for the better part of the evening, and by the time the sun goes down Laharl has a form she can feel much more comfortable in.
After putting the finishing touches on the new and improved Girl Laharl, the demonic Avatar looks out one of the windows, "Oh, I didn't realize how late it was. I should probably be getting back to-" she gets up to leave, only to suddenly feel dizzy and lightheaded, "woah, uh..."
Shantae quickly shoots up and helps her stay steady, "Oh my gosh I am so sorry! I forgot how much of a workout someone's first time messing with transformation magic like that is!"
"It's-I'm fine! Just stood up too fast I think." typical Laharl stubbornness. she really is feeling more like herself, "I can still get home just fiIIIINE!"
Aaand once again Shantae saves her from faceplanting when she stumbles and trips over nothing, "Oh no, I am not letting you try to make a portal back to your castle when you can barely walk! I can call Etna and let her know you're crashing here tonight."
"Fiiiine..." she...is she actually pouting? 'Oh dear mother, sleepy Laharl is adorable!'
After getting laid down on the (actually alarmingly comfortable, like where did she find cushions this soft on her peanuts salary?) couch, she once again drops her usual attitude, looking up at Shantae with completely undisguised affection, "Hey, uh, thanks for...everything you did to help me tonight."
"Anytime." as she grabs a blanket for her guest, she adds "And I do mean that. Anytime you need help, with this or anything else, you can come to me, got it."
"Got it."
"And thank you for trusting me enough to tell me about all this." She crouches down so they'll be at eye level, even if Laharl's are already half-closed, "I know how hard it can be to come out to someone."
"Mmm, 'course I trust you. You're family." And with that she's out like a light.
Shantae...actually chokes up a little at that. With her parents out of the picture since before she can remember, and Scuttle Town being...well, Scuttle Town, she can count on her hands the number of people she'd honestly have called family before all this Meme stuff, especially since Seven Sirens and the other four half-genies hadn't existed yet when the pods dropped, and she knows full well that Laharl's own complicated family-related hangups are far worse. So for her to say that so openly and honestly, even while half asleep...
On some sort of impulse, she leans down and brushes Laharl's hair out of her face gently enough not to wake her, "I swear, I'll do my best to live up to that," With that said, she gets back up, opens her command box...and takes a picture of the sleeping Avatar before sending it to Etna.
>Hey, Laharl wore herself out and needed a place to crash, so dw when she's not back til tomorrow.
>HOLY SHIT SHES SO FUCKING CUTE!!!! i gota send this 2 Flonny n the Gs
>thx 4 helpin hr btw, none of us r shapeshifters so we coldnt do jack
>*thumbs up*

Project RBH Devlog 0007 – Reflecting and Looking Ahead
I realize that last week’s DevLog was somewhat short and not exactly fleshed out, as I was somewhat exhausted at the time from trying to get the release done. But there are some things I skipped over that I still feel are worth discussing. So before we get into the next steps and what I’ve been working on, let’s take a step back and talk about some of the things I didn’t last week.
The art style of Project RBH is something I already knew going into it. I have nothing against pixel art, but it’s generally not what I want from my own projects. I’d prefer something more like Hollow Knight, Shantae, Indivisible, etc. Something that is or looks hand drawn. However, I encountered an issue with the implementation of that idea with the in-progress build.
Maintaining the art style I want at the scale I need is trickier than I anticipated. I thought that I could simply draw the sprites at a smaller scale through coding instead of scaling the images down. However, doing so resulted in complications with collisions. As such, the public build had images scaled down and compressed, resulting in pixelization.
I’ll either need to find a way to resolve the collision issues or scale up the entire game to fit the art assets at the proper size.
Speaking of art assets, let’s talk about the hub area of the game, which I refer to as Nexus. This is the room where the game starts and where you return to on death. If I go through with adding story content and the added development time it will bring, then Nexus will act a lot like the House of Hades from Hades, being a place where other NPCs can be interacted with in various ways.
As for the area’s design, Nexus is directly inspired by Dark Space from SNES classic Illusion of Gaia (Known as Illusion of Time in some regions). Dark Space is the place where you save the game, as well as use the protagonist’s ability to transform.
The similarities between them are… more than passing, but Nexus serves as mechanically different from Dark Space and Quintet vanished from the face of the earth so I doubt they’ll sue, SoulBlazer Remake notwithstanding.
(Square Enix remake Illusion of Gaia I am begging)
So this past week I’ve been back at the drawing board, planning what will come next. I feel as though the gameplay of this build is a solid base, but it’s ultimately far too simple in too many places. This is most obvious with the upgrades system. There’s like nine of them. In a roguelike.
Not to mention the method of acquiring them. Chests placed at random throughout the dungeon is… less than ideal. There’s no real thought involved. You open the chest, you get the upgrade, you move on. There’s no builds, no strategy. Everyone ends up the same.
Luckily, Warframe recently released the Duviri Paradox expansion, which is an open world roguelite experience, and a useful source of inspiration.
Upgrades in Duviri are awarded at the completion of an objective, either a side objective or a main one. You are given a choice of four ‘Decrees’, each of which imparts a passive bonus to you, like adding fire damage to your melee or applying an aura of cold status affect around you. Additionally, most upgrades can be taken more than once, usually three or five times.
What’s really clever about Duviri, as confirmed in a Devstream, is that the Decrees are weighted in their random chance. The more Critical Hit based Decrees you have, the more likely you are to get more to pay off that build.
A system like this would be excellent for Project RBH and for diversifying player options.
Speaking of which, I’d like to add Critical Hits and Status Effects to Project RBH. I’d have to be careful to avoid making Status Effects interchangeable, resulting in a Status Build having far more power and versatility than a Critical Build, and to avoid a Critical Build only being about big numbers, as this would result in their playstyle quickly becoming stale.
I’ve also toyed with the idea of damage types and resistances and weaknesses, like enemies weak to fire. This too would require careful balancing to avoid any situation I which one damage type is objectively better than the others.
I could also add some sort of basic companion system. I have the code to have a drone follow the player around and shoots are where the player is shooting. I did not include it in the build because it is in need of improvements, but it should be simple enough to implement.
The other two mechanics I’ve considered aren’t powerups, but things the player may innately be able to do, to add a bit more strategy into both combat and encounter design: dodging and parrying.
Both of these would be very simple. Dodging would make you move quickly in the direction you’re moving and take no damage while you’re dodging, allowing you to escape the rings from a Shockwave enemy. Parrying is a bit more complicated, but still easily manageable. It would have a tight timing window, but if the player did it correctly, then the incoming bullets would be deflected from the player and deal damage to enemies.
I also want shops in the dungeon. That would add some strategy and risk/reward in getting money for upcoming shops.
Of course, I’m still in the planning stages for all of this and will be for a while. A good diversity of powerups will take time. Ideally I would want at least one hundred different upgrades to ensure some diversity.
Until next Devlog!

Game Retrospective: Metroid Dread
Over the last few years, I’ve been growing colder towards 2D platformers, and "search-action games" (that is, metroidvanias) in particular. I just got tired of feeling lost, I guess, and of trying to navigate the same sequence of tiny floating blocks over and over again while getting lost. I used to adore the genre, and how exploration (generally my favorite part of video games) would be rewarded with surprising and interesting new abilities (my second favorite part of video games). But after dropping games like Hollow Knight (with its boring movement and endless, boring vertical hallways) and Symphony of the Night (with its combination of clunky movement and absurd difficulty) despite them being hailed as exemplary examples of their genre, I was worried that said genre had left me behind. Looking back, the only ones I really loved are, like, Robot Wants Ice Cream, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and Metroid Zero Mission, not counting 3D ones like the Metroid Prime games and Batman Arkham Asylum.
Well, Metroid Dread came out, and it proved me wrong…and right.
Simply put, this game is a blast. Movement is snappy and precise. Puzzles are always fun to solve. Combat, with the parry mechanic and ever-more-powerful abilities, is just fun. The story, while still very minimalist, has surprising depth for a 2D Metroid, and plenty of fascinating callbacks to previous games. Boss battles in particular are a great selling point; all of their designs and attacks are uniquely menacing and brutal—but at the same time, those attacks are all clearly telegraphed, so that every time I died (and I died a lot) I felt like I learned something that would make my next attempt significantly less deadly. Every time I faced a new boss, I quickly went from getting trounced in seconds to expertly dodging all of its attacks, and there really isn’t anything else I want from a boss fight.
Even the new EMMI encounters—segmented areas with only one, completely invincible enemy that stalks you and kills you in one hit—were fun to get through, and a nice change of pace from the usual running and gunning. I particularly liked the little game of chicken that you have to play with a slow-charging gun that is the only thing that can hurt them.
All of this fun is thanks to two significant changes to the Metroid formula: frequent checkpoints, and constant railroading.
The first of those is unambiguously a good thing, and something that every Search-Action game or platformer or whatever should steal. Yes, I died a lot to bosses and EMMIs, but I always respawned right outside the boss room or EMMI zone (not at the last save point, though those are plentiful too). I was always mere seconds away from my next attempt against a challenging foe, with no need to trawl through filler rooms or stress out about missing a save point.
The second change, the railroading, is arguably a bit less positive. Every time I tried to backtrack in Dread—ostensibly the main way of exploring in a Metroid game—I would hit some sort of wall. Maybe it was a one-way door. Maybe a new obstacle appeared from nowhere. Either way, the amount of actual exploration I could do in this game that is arguably about exploration was always strictly limited, until basically right up to the final boss. I think I went from 34% of items to my final total of 88% once I finally realized that I had every ability in the game and would no longer be stopped by all those arbitrary roadblocks.
There’s an upside to this limitation, of course. This is the best-paced Metroid game since the Prime games. Since I never really spent much time being lost or just walking from one end of the map to another, there was always something new and exciting around the corner. And unlike, say, Super Metroid, the controls are actually good, so I never had to juggle between different weapons or fail to execute a finicky wall-jump to get out of a kaizo trap.
Fortunately, as someone who is getting tired of the clunkier aspects of metroidvanias, I welcome this forced linearity. I’d happily play this game again, even if I might not ever get all the secret endings or find the items hidden behind particularly devious Speed Boost Block puzzles.
Strong recommend to anyone who is decent at games, unless you’re some kinda metroidvania purist.

Absolute Shantae Universe Part 2
Here are more ideas on the Absolute Shantae Characters It's not that many but more will come Absolute Ammo Baron This version of the Ammo Baron is mostly the same, But he has Cybernetic Implants in some areas of his body after Losing them in many Battles, His One Eye has been replaced with A Robotic One, And Unlike the Ammo Baron who uses Tanks or magic clothing's to fight his enemies, He instead uses his fists or other Combat Skills, He's a Skilled Marksman and An Amazing General. He's also This version of Bolo's Arch Nemesis As the Two had been Rivals for quite a while, As much as he Hates Absolute Shantae, He Hates Absolute Bolo More. Absolute Nega Shantae This Version of Nega Shantae is mostly the same as her OG, but acts more of an Inner Demon to Absolute Shantae, Whenever Shantae is Troubled or Not Acting Herself, She can also manipulate Shantae in these moments, Making her give in and once Shantae gives in, Her Counterpart can form in the real world in Shantae's Body. However there are instances where Nega Shantae, has been Manifested in the real World, and moments where she even betrays her own Master And Speaking of Master Absolute Risky Boots Absolute Risky is much more Deadlier than her OG Counterpart, She's much more Skilled, Durable and Lethal, This version of Risky uses more magic than her OG, and unlike her OG, She owns a Giant Dark Castle in the middle of the sea, She's much more of a Queen than her OG. Her outfit's colors are mostly the same, But She Wears a longer Pirate Coat, Steel Toed Boots, And Enchanted Jewelry, Her clothes are also made out of her Former Master's Remains. Her Tinkerbats are mostly the same, but some have the ability to speak, One Example is her Assistant Frank, who wears glasses and is mostly her assistant. And Just like her OG Counterpart, She has a burning Hatred for Shantae, However the times the two had to work together to stop a bigger threat, She would occasionally have some Care for Shantae. That's all i have so far, I Would've done more villains but i'm still thinking on how to "Absolute" Them If you guys got Suggestions/Ideas let me know and see you next time

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution And The Rest From Nintendo's Latest Indie Showcase
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/shantae-advance-risky-revolution-and-the-rest-from-nintendos-latest-indie-showcase/
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution And The Rest From Nintendo's Latest Indie Showcase
Nintendo shared its latest Indie World showcase this morning and has become typical with these showcases, we learned about a number of new exciting indie games coming to Switch and Switch first, as well as some hit already-released games that will be making their way to Nintendo’s platform.
[embedded content]
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution was arguably the most interesting title. Developer WayForward began development on the game 20 years ago, but never completed it. Next year, the game will finally make its way to Switch, but retain the Game Boy Advance aesthetic it was always meant to have.
Outer Wilds: Archaeologist Edition is bringing the excellent space-exploring mystery game to the handheld console and will include the Echoes of the Eye expansion. The game releases December 7 and a physical version of the game is planned.
[embedded content]
On Your Tail from Memorable Games and Humble Games is coming to Switch first next year and is a mystery adventure starring anthropomorphic animals.
[embedded content]
A Highland Song is a beautiful narrative platfomer taking place in the Scottish Highlands. The game will also apparently include some rhythm elements. The game will be available December 5 on Switch.
[embedded content]
Popular PC indie titles Backpack Hero and Core Keeper are both making their way to Switch. The former is available today and Core Keeper arrives summer 2024.
[embedded content]
Howl from Mi’pu’mi Games and astragon Entertainment has a style reminiscent of Cartoon Saloon’s films like Wolfwalkers. In the game, a plague from the howling wolves is causing havoc and you, as a deaf prophet, must fight against it.
[embedded content]
Blade Chimera is a platformer seemingly inspired by games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but takes place in the future and features a time-bending sword. Blade Chimera will come to Switch as a timed-exclusive spring 2024.
Death Trick: Double Blind is a new mystery game that takes place in a circus starring a magician and an amnesiac detective. The game will be available later today.
[embedded content]
The Star Named EOS is a storytelling puzzle adventure where you must take photos to trace the footsteps of your missing mother. The game will be available spring 2024.
[embedded content]
Raw Fury has had a good 2023 and that trend seems to be continuing with Moonstone Island. The game is a deck-building, animal collecting, cozy game with some procedural generation elements. The game will be a timed-exclusive for Switch in Spring 2024.
Along with those games receiving highlight, Nintendo also shared a number of other announcements related to indie games. Planet of Lana launched spring 2024 on Switch. Enjoy the Diner will be available later today. The Gecko Gods is coming to Switch spring 2024. Passpartout 2: The Lost Artist, the painting adventure game will be available on Switch today. Braid: Anniversary Edition releases April 30, 2024 on Switch. Urban Myth Dissolution Center is coming to Switch next year. And finally, Heavenly Bodies, will be available on Switch in February.

Hi I hope you dont mind this ask because I'm just being sincere and we've been mutuals on your main blog for awhile 😔 But I dropped rwby awhile back at the end of the last season and I've been missing it a bit so I wanna get back, may I ask if there's been any new stuff? Like new content or news about rwby in general if you'd be willing to say, thank you and good day
oh hey friend, it's totally fine dw!! maybe there's some stuff here you already know, but i'll try to list as much as i can remember! most of this was shown at RTX:
we don't have a trailer for volume 9 yet, but we did get an exclusive clip of the first episode! many of the crewmembers have said that this volume is their favorite and the most unique. i think i remember miles describing it like "a refreshing slice of ginger before you eat your next piece of sushi".
there's an upcoming metroidvania game called "rwby: arrowfell" by wayforward (shantae, river city girls) that features animated cutscenes in the style of the show. it has an original new story and new characters, but it takes place around volume 7!
the v8 soundtrack is still in production due to private issues between jeff and casey's family, but so far the end credits track "friend" has been released as a solo.
a 5th addition to the manga anthologies focusing on team jnpr, named "shine", was recently released.
uhhhh the grimm campaign is still running I THINK? i haven't gotten around to watch season 2 yet, but if you don't know about it, it's a dnd-inspired spinoff series that canonically takes place in remnant a few years before the start of the show!! it's very fun :D
that's about all i can remember, if anyone has anything to add please do!

The Indieverse
Here’s another Multiverse for ya, yes im gonna keep charting these. Now, as always the dotted lines are a multiverse link meaning they exist in the same multiverse. Now, im not gonna count easter egg and cameos, these either have to be explicitly linked with the multiverse mentioned or it being implied.
Let’s start with Cadence of Hyrule, already connected to the Legend of Zelda timeline as Cadence wanders out of the Crypt from Crypt of the Necrodancer into Hyrule. It’s therefore implied that the Crypt exists outside of the universe as some kind of multiverse, reinforced by one of the merchants having items from Fez, Shovel Knight, Rogue Legacy, Towerfall Ascension and Spelunky.
Shovel Knight is next and Ihe appears in the fighting game Blade Strangers, a crossover fighting game which I usually shy away from but the plot of Blade Strangers is “Every universe is one of many simulations being generated by an interdimensional network of servers“ suggesting a multidimensional link via this network of servers.
In Blade Strangers characters from 1001 Spikes, Code of Princess, Binding of Isaac, Cave Story, Umihara Kawase, Azure Strike Gunvolt and Doki Doki Poyacchio appear as playable characters alongside Shovel Knight bringing them into the wider Indieverse.
Another Nicalis crossover game is the puzzle fighter Crystal Crisis again its stated that all participating franchise characters are part of a multiverse and original characters from Blade Strangers appear as well linking the two together. Newcomers to Crystal Crisis are Akuji the Demon from the titular game and manga characters Astro Boy and Black Jack. I’m gonna assume its the mangas for the sake of simplicity but that brings those in as well.
Now, Shovel Knight is a spirit in Super Smash Bros and I’ve previously not used Smash Bros as a connection between series because the games were implied to be toys and fighting in the imagination of a child. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate however along with the character announcement trailers suggest it to be a multiverse tournament. The spirits therefore are the spirits of the characters themselves. This once again links things to Legend of Zelda series as well as fellow indie darling Shantae.
Due to the connection to SSBU and Legend of Zelda theres a whole nother section that its linked to that gets out of control due to series like Soul Calibur, Warriors Orochi and so on being involved making the chart way to complex to fit in one solid chunk so its best left for another day.
But this little section of the wider video game multiverse I’ve dubbed the Indieverse.

Shantae and the Pirate's Curse Gameplay Walkthrough Part 9 Tan Line Island No Commentary Full Game
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is a platform game developed by WayForward Technologies for the Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U. It is the third game in the Shantae series, following Shantae: Risky's Revenge. It was released in North America on the 3DS eShop on October 23, 2014 and on the Wii U eShop on December 25, 2014, and in PAL regions on both platforms on February 5, 2015. The game was later ported to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Amazon Fire TV, and Nintendo Switch. The game follows the adventures of the eponymous half-genie Shantae as she once again has to save Sequin Land from a new foe, the Pirate Master, with help from her nemesis Risky Boots. The title features a new soundtrack by Jake Kaufman. Met with generally favorable reviews, the game was a nominee for best 3DS game and best platformer by IGN and made the Top 10 of the Club Nintendo 2014 survey of the fans' favorite games. It also was commercially successful. Gameplay Like its predecessors, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse casts players in the role of Shantae the half-genie, who can attack enemies using her hair. Having lost her genie powers in the previous game, Shantae now makes use of various pirate items that the player obtains during the course of the game. These include a pistol that can be used to shoot enemies and switches from afar, a hat that can be used to glide through the air and ride on gusts of wind, a scimitar that can break blocks using a downwards thrust, boots that send Shantae into a charging dash that can break through certain walls, and a cannon that can be used to perform additional jumps in mid-air. Players can also make use of various items, such as damaging pike balls or health restoring potions. These items, as well as upgrades to Shantae's hair attack and pirate items, can be purchased using gems obtained from enemies and breakable objects. In place of transformation dances, Shantae can use a genie lamp to suck up nearby gems, as well as carry dark magic and other gaseous objects like smells. Unlike the fully interconnected world of its predecessors, the world of Pirate's Curse is spread across multiple islands that Shantae can travel to via Risky Boots' pirate ship. These islands each require Shantae to gain access to a Den of Evil, where one of the pirate items can be found, and defeat a boss in order to gain a map to the next island. Players will often be required to fulfill certain quests in order to progress, such as finding an item on one island and giving it to someone on another. Hidden across the various islands are twenty cursed Cacklebats, which the player must defeat and extract Dark Magic from in order to obtain the game's best ending. Up to 32 Heart Squids can also be collected, which can be exchanged to increase Shantae's maximum health. Clearing the game unlocks Pirate Mode, which gives Shantae all of her pirate items from the start to allow the player to perform speedruns. Additional bonus artwork is unlocked based on players' final time and completion percentage upon clearing the game. The Nintendo 3DS western physical release and Nintendo Switch version feature an exclusive minigame, "Super Shantae NAB!", based on a Shantae-themed minigame featured in WarioWare D.I.Y., which can be played to earn additional gems. Tan Line Island Make your way right following the top path to find Squid Baron who will kindly give you X-Ray Specs. Head back then take the lower path right and examine the sarcophagus to get the Mummy Sketch. Travel to Saliva Island and go to where the statues rise then float to the top left to get another Mummy Sketch. Take the boat back to Scuttle Town and visit the girl who lent you her Library Card to receive the final Mummy Sketch thus granting you the Door Combo. Input the Door Combo back at Tan Line Island to enter Tan Line Temple then break the left wall and get ready for a stealth segment. Find all three "princesses" and proceed together to receive the Golden Pickaxe. Go right and give the foreman the Golden Pickaxe so he can clear the way. Head all the way right while keeping in mind that you can jump in the quicksand then fall through the hole to reach the Lost Catacombs. Make your way through the dungeon to get Risky's Scimitar and beat the Squid Baron boss to acquire the Mud Bog Island Map.
