EVERYTHING I THOUGHT I KNEW
by Shannon Takaoka
(Candlewick, 10/13/20)

Add to Goodreads
Purchase from Indiebound
A teenage girl wonders if she’s inherited more than just a heart from her donor in this compulsively readable debut. Seventeen-year-old Chloe had a plan: work hard, get good grades, and attend a top-tier college. But after she collapses during cross-country practice and is told that she needs a new heart, all her careful preparations are laid to waste. Eight months after her transplant, everything is different. Stuck in summer school with the underachievers, all she wants to do now is grab her surfboard and hit the waves—which is strange, because she wasn’t interested in surfing before her transplant. (It doesn’t hurt that her instructor, Kai, is seriously good-looking.) And that’s not all that’s strange. There’s also the vivid recurring nightmare about crashing a motorcycle in a tunnel and memories of people and places she doesn’t recognize. Is there something wrong with her head now, too, or is there another explanation for what she’s experiencing? As she searches for answers, and as her attraction to Kai intensifies, what she learns will lead her to question everything she thought she knew—about life, death, love, identity, and the true nature of reality.

Everything I Thought I Knew was an eye-opening read. The first few pages were a whole reality check. Health problems can occur to even the healthiest of all people, regardless of age, size, or gender. This book is a very relatable and attention capturing read.
Imagine being a teenager with big dreams and full of life one day, and the next, you have a life-threatening illness that changes…

Everything I thought I knew by Shannon Takaoka was weird but in a good way? This girl gets a heart transplant after which she gets flashes of memories which aren't hers 👀
ooooooh this sounds interesting!
tell me the weirdest/most unsettling/most confusing book you’ve ever read (bonus points if you tell me why)

Book Tour in collaboration with @mmbtours 💖 🦄🦄🦄 Seventeen-year-old Chloe had a plan: work hard, get good grades, and attend a top-tier college. As she searches for answers, and as her attraction to Kai intensifies, what she learns will lead her to question everything she thought she knew—about life, death, love, identity, and the true nature of reality. 🦄🦄🦄 Everything I Thought I Knew is a YA novel by Shannon Takaoka. What I enjoyed about this book is its outlook on life from someone's who had almost lost it and now has to live a different life she planned for herself while everyone else around her moves on. It's sad yes, but it's also uplifting as she learns to live life through the new challenges she faces in her once perfect world and it's one of the reasons do like the character of Chloe, but she does have a lot of flaws. There were times where she was borderline annoying even. Kai was someone I enjoyed reading about a lot more and his presence in the book is felt a lot more in the entire book compared to Chloe even though she's our main character. The book starts off a bit slow for my taste and it took quite a while for us to move on from what happened ton Chloe's past and move on with what's more important in her present. Yes the events were the highlight of the story but being reminded of it again and again was maybe a bit unnecessary. -continued- https://www.instagram.com/p/CGU2m7sAEMp/?igshid=10689xdbl9gdn

One heart. Infinite possibilities. I thought I knew what this book was about, but it surpassed everything I imagined. I was lucky to receive an ARC of EVERYTHING I THOUGHT I KNEW by writer, editor, and public relations consultant Shannon Takaoka, but I strongly recommend you snap this up (or place a pre-order) when this young adult debut novel releases on October 13, 2020.
