first of all, thank you SO much for taking the time to go over it with me. i was having a conversation with a friend, and they said "Poetry is about rhythm and space. So it's still structured, there's just different ways to structure it", which is very general, but still a more or less satisfying answer. i understand the concept of "rules withhold creativity", but i believe i was more asking, when does it stop being poetry and become prose? which is more or less why i was asking, is it just it being chopped up? thats the only reason its poetry, with nothing else to withhold the medium?
The most sure sign that someone doesn’t know much about poetry is when they insist that poetry has to rhyme.
And the most sure sign that someone is a little too pretentious about poetry is when they say that they hate rhyming poetry.
#i love having civil discussions#discussions my beloveds#ALSO I LOOKED UP THE SHADORMA#VERY INTERESTING#IT SPECIFICALLY SAYS ITS TYPICALLY UNRHYMED WHICH IS INTERESTING#BUT#it does have a specific structure for it to *be* a shadorma#like a haiku#which falls in like of the chopped up nature of a poem#but with a bit more of a structure rather than just any sentence#i always struggle on where im gonna cut my sentence down#or how many words in the one#THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU#ccw rambles

My poems were all in shadorma form, taking clues from the front of the card. There was a nice […]Poetry Postcard Fest 2022

Losing my religion, or: Don’t stop believin’
A ‘Garland’ Shadorma I shall speak of togetherness; I shall seek out shared light; I shall focus on the truth of one humankind let’s share our words of unity; let’s find strength in our love; let’s hold one another now when we need it most perhaps life belies perceptions; perhaps, if so, all’s well? perhaps concern […] Losing my religion, or: Don’t stop believin’

Where do dreams
go when they fly free
Once kept hid
then just fades
Beautiful they were
just like you and me.

Robbie’s Inspiration – Tanka Tuesday, Childhood Perspectives #tankatuesday #poetry
These are my contributions to Colleen’s challenges for the past two weeks. I don’t think they are exactly right, but I like them so here they are. Unnatural curls – a shadorma prose poem When I was a little girl and my sister, Catherine, was a very little girl, my hair was as straight as […]Robbie’s Inspiration – Tanka Tuesday, Childhood Perspectives #tankatuesday #poetry

How To Write Shadorma
How To Write Shadorma The Shadorma is a poetic form consisting of a six-line stanza (or sestet). Its origins are believed to be from Spain but it is hard to track exactly where and when the form was created. This sestet has a syllable count of three syllables in the first line, five syllables in the second line, three syllables in the third and fourth lines, seven syllables in the fifth line,…

NaPoWriMo 2021, Day 7
NaPoWriMo 2021, Day 7 Short syllabic poetry forms are the prompts today. I chose The Fib over the shadorma...and it has nothing to do with alternative facts! #NaPoWriMo2021 #GloPoWriMo2021 #FibonacciSequence #TheFib
…in which we tackle the short, very tautly structured syllabic forms of either the shadorma or the Fib. We have worked on shadorma in my creative writing Zoom workshops and I cannot say that I am terribly enamoured. The Fib, however, has a basis in natural science, not in alternative facts. Though imagination does enter into it. So I chose the second (optional) prompt for today’s flexing of the…
