could antiques dealers PLEASE stop assuming everyone who wants to buy a mechanical clock or an old sewing machine or any sort of Device only wants it for decorative purposes?
Does It Work should be a question you're able to accurately answer before you put an old machine out on the floor
(this post brought to you by: I bought an antique clock as a Christmas gift to myself and my parents just took it to the Clock Guy for me. it was advertised as working, and did indeed tick when wound, but WAY too fast.)
(turns out it has no pendulum. there's literally no way to know if it's actually working or not- apparently ticking when wound means nothing in terms of functionality without a pendulum)
(not only was this not disclosed, but the shopkeeper wouldn't even let me take the clock out of the CASE until I bought it. let alone open the back and see what the situation was. it's possible they hadn't even opened the back when they bought it, and didn't know it was missing a crucial piece)
(it said "working" and had a key, and you don't assume the worst of every antiques dealer you meet, so I trusted them. I'm tempted to leave a negative review even though I love the clock- I factored in repairs when I budgeted to buy it, so that's fine, but what if I hadn't? I'd have a very expensive 25-pound paperweight when I expected a working timepiece)

Okay so I'm too afraid to watch Stranger Things (I have on good authority that it would actually break me) but I feel like I Need to know about hellcheer, what are the most important things to know xD
You, my friend, are in luck, because Hellcheer has all of, like, five minutes of interactions. I’ll only show you the video for the good one so as not to break you. This scene OOZES chemistry:
youtube
As for things to know, I will do my best to stick with strictly canon material and avoid headcanons (of which there are many).
For Chrissy Cunningham:
1.) She is a senior in high school, head cheerleader.
2.) She is dating the captain of the basketball team, Jason Carver.
3.) She is being plagued by visions from an otherworldly creature who is essentially feeding off of her trauma. That’s why she’s so jumpy in the clip.
4.) She has an eating disorder. This manifests in her visions as a table full of food that is rotting and fly-infested.
5.) Her mother is abusive. This manifests in her visions with her mother at a sewing machine altering Chrissy’s clothes to fit. Additionally, in the vision, her father is sewn to his recliner, his eyes and mouth sewn shut - implying that he has been violently blinded, immobilized, and silenced by his wife.
6.) Later in the night the same day as the above scene, Chrissy goes to Eddie’s trailer so he can sell her ketamine to try to ignore her visions. The creature haunting her takes this opportunity to kill her brutally in front of Eddie.
For Eddie Munson:
1.) Eddie is loud and abrasive. Compare the scene where he’s introduced to how soft he is with Chrissy:
youtube
2.) Eddie lives in a trailer with his uncle. According to the prequel book, his mother is dead and his father is in jail. His father taught him to hotwire cars when he was a kid.
3.) Eddie has been held back twice. His goal is to graduate high school, flip off the principal, and get out of Hawkins, Indiana.
4.) He is not the same person after Chrissy dies. He is deeply traumatized, and blames himself for running away and leaving her in his trailer (even though she was already dead).
5.) Eddie’s uncle, Wayne, is Eddie’s number one supporter. This guy is continuing to shelter his twenty-year-old drug dealer metalhead nephew when he has no obligation to. When he comes home from work to see a dead cheerleader in his trailer, he is 100% positive Eddie didn’t do it. We would all die for Uncle Wayne.
6.) In the last episode of the season, Eddie goes into the alternate dimension where the evil creature lurks and plays Master of Puppets by Metallica as a distraction. Now, people take this as Eddie being a guitar prodigy because that song came out only WEEKS before the events of this season. But more importantly: he dedicates his performance to Chrissy.
youtube
(Only the first few seconds of this are relevant)
7.) Chrissy’s death affects Eddie right up to his own. He successfully distracts the creatures in the alternate dimension. He’s in the process of returning to his own when he stops, turns around, and sacrifices himself in order to keep the monsters at bay a little longer. As he’s dying, he says, “I didn’t run away this time.”
Jason Carver (because no Beauty and the Beast style ship is complete without a Gaston):
1.) Jason is Chrissy’s boyfriend and the captain of the basketball team. He is handsome and well-liked, but very self-centered. One of the first times we see him, he takes a town tragedy - a “mall fire” that killed dozens - and makes it about his upcoming basketball game.
2.) When Chrissy dies, he goes off the rails. He gathers his teammates, packs his trunk full of weapons, and goes hunting for Eddie.
3.) We never really see Jason sad about Chrissy’s death. He’s only angry. There’s a scene where a classmate offers her condolences to Jason. He changes the subject.
4.) When someone tells Jason that Chrissy went to Eddie because she was scared, he grows angry and says that she would have come to him. Kinda says a lot about the relationship.
5.) Fun fact: the actor who played Jason based his personality off of Tom Cruise and mega church leaders. Yikes.
Parallels:
1.) ‘86: Chrissy wears a 1986 necklace, and Eddie says that ‘86 is going to be his year.
2.) We never see either character out of their “uniform” - her cheerleading outfit and his Hellfire Club t-shirt (his DnD club).
3.) Both characters were victims of the town’s perception of them. Chrissy didn’t get the help she needed because her life seemed so perfect. Eddie was pursued by a literal mob because the town succumbed to Satanic Panic.
4.) Both had parents who put unfair expectations on them: Chrissy’s mother put the burden of beauty on her, and Eddie’s dad made him help steal cars.
Hopefully that’s a good jumping off point! If anybody else wants to chime in with anything I missed, feel free!
Let me know if you want popular headcanons to go with it!

I know that painting sewing machine cabinets is extremely controversial. I brought this baby to an antique dealer/restoration guy who suggested doing so to me unprompted. Restoring it would have cost thousands, and treadle machines just aren’t particularly rare or valuable enough to make it worth it. My guy tightened things up, patched some cracks, and told me to pick a nice color. I bought new drawer pulls that honor the teardrop style of the originals. I preserved the decal on the front of the coffin.

(Please excuse the crappy hallway lighting in the after photos.)
The next step will be sanding and repainting the frame and treadle itself.

I'm running some ideas past my work, and I'd just like some opinions here.
My company can only currently ship to the USA, but I will alert everyone if we go international. Currently we have fewer than 40 employees, spread across 4 stores, so we don't have the logistical support for international mailing.
If you were already looking to buy a sewing machine, would you be interested in buying that machine over the internet, from the company I work for? I might be able to get a discount code for my store's website that I could just post here, so you could use it at checkout and my store would know that my blog brought you there.
The one catch is that I know most people who read this budget egl and sewing blog aren't really looking to drop $6000 on a machine, and our profit margins are lower on the less expensive machines. So my question is: would 5% off a machine and the novelty of buying it from me be enough to make you want to shop at my company, rather than another online sewing machine dealer?
BTW if you ARE looking to get a mid- to top-line machine, please message me and I can give you my work email. I have some power over pricing on the fancier machines, and some discount codes I can only give out in a personal email or phone call. The code I'm asking about in this post would be for if you're interested in buying a machine from a website and don't want to go through the social energy if speaking to a human. Sometimes you want a Baby Lock Zeal and you don't want to have to talk to a human to get one. As someone who sometimes doordashes food to avoid the human interaction element of ordering, I fully understand.

Word Count: 1410
Warnings: Moderately suggestive
When it comes to flirting, either go big or go home
You had always considered yourself a Robin Hood type of person; steal from the stupidly rich and give to the suffering poor. Gotham was a completely broken city, filled with drug dealers, psychotic clowns, and vigilante furries running around trying to keep everything together. No one here was served the justice they deserved and it angered you. Batman and his crew could only do so much, considering they never killed and the villains they arrested always escaped Arkham Asylum within a few months.
You desperately wanted to be of aid to your city, to help and make a mark in some way. You were never the violent type, so you created a different plan to make an impact. One of the things that aggravated you most about this damn city was the huge divide between the rich and poor. The wealthy only used their money to get richer, mostly in ways that would certainly land them in jail until they were wrinkly in any other place. Meanwhile, too many people lined the streets cold and starving, and in desperate need of shelter. It was disgusting how the millionaires of Gotham refused to help their own people.
You were convinced that the only way to help was to force the rich to help Gotham through your own means. Thus, you went to the nearest fabric store and sat down at your sewing machine, attempting to make your vigilante costume. You took inspiration from Catwoman’s attire - all sleek and black, allowing you to slip into the night without being traced; although, instead of stealing for yourself, you would use the money you got in order to help the people on the streets.
The first night you had donned the outfit you had made, you were hit with immediate regret. Gotham was no doubt a dangerous place, especially at night, how would you even be able to sneak into someone’s (probably) heavily guarded mansion and get the money you need? It had taken you several prep talks in the bathroom and a catchy playlist meant to pump you up in order for you to gain the courage you needed to slip out the window of your apartment.
Surprisingly, you did not get caught the first few nights. As a matter of fact, you didn’t get caught at all for the first few months of your newly found hobby. Luck must have really been on your side. The news had deemed you the newest Gotham villain that had terrorized the homes of thousands. You really didn’t care if Gotham called you a villain, the smiling faces of the people you helped in the soup kitchens and on the streets kept you warm enough to persevere through the inaccurate portrayal - but the fact that they had said you robbed thousands of houses -now that was a little generous.
You found yourself getting into a habit, creating a sufficient route of houses that you would rob - ones that would be empty so that you wouldn’t have to deal with people. Perhaps that is how you got into this situation.
You would have sworn you were careful when entering and leaving the house, no one was around and you had already thoroughly disarmed the security cameras with a handy dandy rock. At least - that’s what you had thought until the bag filled with money was kicked from your hands. Something had attached itself to your waist, whirling around your body until your movement was restricted, causing you to fall to the floor with a thud.
“Ow!” A dark shadow loomed over you and upon closer inspection, you realized that it was the traffic light assassin himself. His hair flitted in the wind, the glare he had pierced through your soul. He was hot, sexy even, you knew that the first time you saw him on your small TV screen. Seeing him in person though? Now that was enough fodder for you to go home with.
“Well…this is kinky.” Curse you and your uncensored mouth. You couldn’t help it, being in uncomfortable situations pushed a button in your brain that caused you to have absolutely no filter whatsoever.
Robin seemed to cringe, his nose crinkling and his mouth twisting into a deeper frown. “What were you doing up here?”
You pulled yourself up from the floor into a sitting position, your knees rubbing together. “I was stealing from this asshole's house, obviously. I thought you were smarter than that, boy wonder.”
Robin stepped closer to you and eventually crouched down. “You have spent the past few months stealing from rich houses like this,” He grabbed the bag of money and held it in front of you, “I want to know what you are doing with this money and why you are stealing it.”
The proximity of you two made your heart skip multiple beats, it was shocking how you didn’t die on the spot. You could briefly see his eyes through his mask, but not enough to make out a definite shape or color. Heat rose up your neck and the rope around you seemed too tight all of a sudden. Truly, you were speechless. This seemed to amuse Robin.
“Is that enough of an answer for you, darling.” A smirk tugged at his exquisite lips. It took all of the self restraint you had not to push yourself forward and kiss him.
You flashed him your own smirk. “Hm, I’m not sure if I want to tell you yet. Maybe there’s a way you can force the answer out of me.”
Robin leaned in closer, just enough so you could feel his breath fanning your cheek. “And what makes you think I would ever do that?”
“Because,” You shrugged, “I am irresistible.”
Something about that statement made Robin suddenly pull away and turn his back towards you, creating an achingly long distance between you two. He cleared his throat, his face now just as scarlet as yours. He readjusted his gloves.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on you for a while. It’s surprising how no one has been able to unearth your identity yet, considering how reckless you are and how complacent you have become.” A shiver runs down your spine.
“You don’t seem like a villain, your pattern suggests that you purposefully try to avoid confrontations and fights. I also noticed that you have only been robbing from Gotham’s elites, notably the more…scummy…ones.”
“Is this normally how you sweet talk women into your bed?” You snorted.
He decided to ignore your statement. “Whatever you are doing with this money, it must be important enough to risk your life every week.”
“Ah, there’s that intelligence that people find so attractive-” You attempted to say before Robin cut you off.
“You are so talkative, it makes me wonder if you ever shut up.” His husky voice sent you spiraling further into the clouded lands of desire.
“Then maybe you should find a way to shut me up, Robin.” You said in the most seductive voice you could muster. It seemed that that statement made the young vigilante hero flustered, his gloved hand covering his face and his head shaking in disapproval. Finally, he let out a long, drawn out, sigh.
“You are absolutely impossible, you know that? Just tell me why you are doing this.”
While the conversation continued, you managed to shimmy the pocket knife you had (for emergencies) out of your, well, pocket. You carefully took one of the wires and slowly began to cut. The rope proceeded to break with a snap, quickly alerting Robin to your new freedom - but before he could do anything about it, you had already wrapped your arms around his neck and leaned in close enough to kiss him if you gave yourself a tiny push.
“I don’t feel like telling you just yet, lil Birdie.” You leaned in to kiss his cheek. “Sadly, as much as I have loved this interaction of ours, I do have to bid you goodbye. Maybe next time you’ll catch me again, hm?”
Robin stared at you in shock, his hand hovering over the place you had kissed him, the money a forlorn memory in his mind. He watched as your frame was swallowed by the thick, black, shadows of Gotham. It took him a few seconds, but his smirk slowly made its way back onto his face. If it was a game you wanted, it was a game you were going to get.
To be completely honest, writing flirty readers is very hard for me, mostly because I am unable to flirt to save my life; nevertheless, this was insanely fun to write! I hope that it lives up to your standards! Thank you so much for the request!!!!
Now off to write part three of I hate you, be my girlfriend >:DD

In the early 1970s the African-American artist Al Loving (1935-2005) dismayed some of his admirers (and his dealer) when he abandoned his crisp geometric style of painting in an attempt, as he later told an interviewer, to find out “whether there is black art and what it looks like.” He turned to more relaxed, loquacious works made from torn strips of canvas stained with paint, pieced together using a sewing machine and hung on the wall like raggedy, rich-hued banners. Five examples, dating from 1973 to 1975, form the heart of this beautiful show. (NY Times)

Five times Mycroft hated sewing and the one time he didn't!
I know, I know! A BBC Sherlock FanFic in the year of "We've buried that show years ago, Donna! What the fuck?!" But I got such a lovely prompt from a friend (I did specify this fandom, but only because I forgot the only other fandom we share. Which isn't that much less... controversial, I guess xD) Also, I love Mycroft, in any iteration I have watched or read, but especially this one! So enjoy ^^
1. A Toy
As so many things in his life, Mycroft's forays into sewing started with Sherlock. The baby brother had been announced a few weeks ago and the due date was looming ever so closer! He had tried to find the perfect gift for the child to be born, but nothing was perfect enough in his mind. No matter, he was Mycroft Holmes! Genius par excellence! He would just make one himself!
A small stuffy would be child's play for him! (If Mycroft cared about puns, he would have congratulated himself for this one!)
A few weeks, multiple meters of fabric and a few bags of stuffing later, the young redhead stood at the side of the bassinet that held the screaming, unhappy brother he would care for deeply! As well as a small misshapen lump of fabric, Mycroft would for ever deny was made by him.
2. A costume
Despite popular opinions and rumours, spread by jealous little brothers, Mycroft was never too big as in too high in weight for the costumes of the school play! He was simply too high in... height. So, when the theatre group was planning the show and all the costumes had to be made, he foolishly agreed to make his own, to lighten the burden of his classmates. It was always beneficial to be a good sport in group projects, after all.
So he found himself once more in front of fabric and thread, but this time accompanied by a sewing machine.
After more unsuccessful versions than he'd like to remember, the Holmes' housekeeper took pity on him and not just helped him to conceal the crimes to fashion, but also with the final costume.
Even years later, his peers liked to comment on his talents not just being mental, but being skilful hands as well!
3. A brother Now, this one could be considered cheating, or waxing poetics, about a young brother, with too much mind and more importantly too much heart and not enough guard rails, because those chafe and burn.
But it isn't, because before the rehabs and the dealers being scared off and found and removed, there was an accident, a thief, a knife and a first aid kit. Mycroft doesn't like to remember it, the warmth, the red, the urgency! (The fear, oh god, the pure terror!) But the man was arrested, disappeared, honestly, and the brother safe in a cage, to try and get him back. But at least Sherlock was alive enough to rebel at that!
4. A skirt
Now, this one wasn't as bad, frustrating or horrifying as the others. All things considered, the objective had been cleared, so having to sew up Anthea's skirt, that got ripped during the assignment, one of the last he had to fulfil before rising up into the more strategic areas of his job, was of almost no importance or consequence. Except for the fact that it got ripped while defending him from the very talented operative in possession of the file they were after. Even with his shoddy job of it, due to the fact he hadn't touched a needle and thread in years, she was presentable enough that they wouldn't stand out in public. Anthea gave him a travel kit for the promotion. It was overwhelmingly sentimental! (It had it's fixed place in every briefcase!)
5. A coat
After the absolute mess of things on the roof of St. Barth's, Mycroft held his brother's coat in his hands. During the commotion on the pavement, someone must have ripped it, trying to get to Sherlock. (An army doctor, trying frantically to reach his best friend, the focal point of his life.)
With the ruse being pulled off and a man left devastated and another in the lion's den, all that remained was a ripped coat. The outer layer ripped and the inner lining soiled with blood and other fluids in order to shatter beliefs.
So Mycroft went to work, meticulously cleaning and repairing the coat, except for one gash....
+1. A coat Part Two
… that one he finished on the way to get his baby brother home, back to his family, where he belonged.
By now, Mycroft had enough practice to make the coat look undamaged, and the relief he felt, when Sherlock slipped it one and stormed out in a strut, to mock John for his moustache, he pondered if maybe it would be a worthwhile endeavour after all...

❝ Helloo~ Name's %̷̛͕̟̭̙̐̕*̷̻̰̃̓̀#̸̼̭̦͋̍!̵̘̑͜@̷̦̌̓͒́ͅ?̴̪̤͖̄! ... Oops-! I mean, you can call me, Blue~ ❞
Sinner No. ?? - %*#@? (alias: Blue)
Particulars: Deceitful, Lascivious, Antagonistic, Morbid Color: Forgotten Blue - #00DDFF Literary Source: The Uncanny Base E.G.O.: Familiarly Unfamiliar
A Sinner possessing the unnatural ability to change shape at will and cause fear and confusion in most living entities. Though they are quite strong and smart, they are also dangerously uncooperative and destructive. It is suggested that managers and sinners alike take extra precautions when in close quarters with them.
[CAUTION]: This Sinner is noted to cause periods of unshakable discomfort or dread in those around them. Having other team members spend occasional time out of view of them is highly recommended. [WARNING]: Due to this Sinner's unusual nature, they will also exhibit signs of corrosion during elevated mental states and may stay corroded for longer than normal.
More details under the cut!
Extended info:
Previous Work: Black Market dealer, Informant, H-Corp Hive Member Current Affiliation: Limbus Company Weapon: None (Shapeshifts)
Gender: Fluid (he/she/they) (most company records refer to him by "they") Age: ?? (estimates are 30+) Height: 165 cm, 5'5” (changes frequently) Birthday: July 15
This Sinner is considered a jack-of-all-trades and is passably competent at a wide expanse of tasks from machine repair to espionage to assassination. If no better choice is otherwise available, it would be suggested to rely on them for even the more unusual of tasks.
Please note that it is very difficult to make them do anything outside their usual scope or work without immediate compensation, so we suggest managers keep a handful of sweets on them to avoid any issues of payment.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
DESIGN
His clothing tears whenever he shifts, so he sews them back together until they are 100% unusable and basically in tatters. There are often stitches all over his clothes. The only piece of specialty clothing he has (that changes with him) is his ribbon. As such, when shifted he always has his ribbon or a ribbon-like mark on him somewhere. His Company jacket is extremely oversized. He doesn't wear it in fights and instead uses it to cover himself after battle if his clothes are wrecked. It also does not have his name on it as no one could read it anyways.
SHIFTING
Can only change into life-like beings or creature-like abnormalities. If it is something that has inanimate parts, he can only imitate the living parts - (i.e: when changing to Alleyway Watchdog, he can imitate the wolf but not the poles. or technically he can but they would be gross and fleshy) He can chimera himself into a mix of things as well. He has had several aliases in his years. His most infamous identities are that of: > The Sandman: a violent aggressor who appeared for some time in the backstreets of several districts and stole people’s eyes during the Backstreet Nights. > The Raven: Literally just a raven, but unusually large and distinguished by a blood-red marking by its left eye. It is rumored in some backstreets to be a sign of ill omen and speaks to the doomed in tongues and curses. He does not forcefully revert back to his usual form even if he is knocked unconscious or killed. The form he usually uses is not the one he was born with and no one really knows what he looks like.
OTHER
As noted, spending long periods of time around him can affect people's sanity. Most will eventually have delusions of seeing him taking creepily disturbing forms or saying variously upsetting things (usually differs by person's perception). Quite frankly, though, for those that spend a lot of time with him, it's not much different from what he normally does but he gets very upset when he notices it happening nonetheless Has had previous trouble with I-Corp who took away his name as punishment. Due to this his name can’t be heard, seen or said by most others. According to him, it is extremely painful to change forms and hearing things break or snap while he does is quote normal. He does it very frequently regardless and has developed a very extreme pain tolerance as a result.
